Cafe: Karen Needs to Shut Her Pie-Hole Edition

Ibex mother leads her one week old kids down an impossibly steep cliff for the first time. Apparently the mother gives birth at the top of the cliffs for protection -- no one can get to her or her kids up there -- but after a week they have to come down, because there's no food at the top of a cliff, and mom's hungry.

Rescuing a raccoon. They do set it free back into "the wild," but the raccoon just hangs around their house.

Either this gang of Rottweilers are just curious, or they're a pack of hell hounds sent by Satan.

I say "just curious." But I'm a glass half full kind of guy.

Kitten and small fawn are friends.

That small fawn grows up on this video. He plays soccer at 1:00.

Very cute dog cuddles another dog.

Nope:

Tonight's Cafe brought to you by Pie.

All kinds of pie.

Content warning. But fun. But also, filthy.

And also brought to you by this Legend.

Now I'm imagining the racoon sprawled out on the couch with a beer, watching TV, telling them that he's waiting to hear back from a buddy about an awesome job opportunity (honest!) and he swears this is only for another week or so and then he'll be gone. Oh, that's probably the pizza guy. Can he borrow twenty bucks to pay for it? You can have some as well...

26 Beeeeeeeeeeeeeez.

Yea, I've seen people actually do that shit. Amazing.

Apparently most honey bees are pretty chill. I was thinking of putting an acrylic hive on the side of our house. You can see into it from the inside, but the outside is opaque, like being inside a tree or something.

They bees will pollinate your garden, flowers, etc. and produce honey. Cool setup.

But.... bees.

163 By the way, perused some earlier threads, noticed people have, for some reason, decided now is a good time to pull cable.

Oddly enough, I just put in a 6 port patch panel so I can get power to and data from the cameras that will be installed in a couple of days.

Trying to make it easy for the installer, and save myself a few bucks, the other end of the patch panel is in the attic so all he has to do is hang the camera and plug the cable into the appropriately numbered port.

Oh, and, for anyone planning to run data in a house: if the wall you're thinking of dropping data down is an adjoining wall to a bathroom with a sink and shower on that wall, forget trying to get cable down the wall. There are probably too many pipes that, if hit with a spinning pointy object will make your day go bad in a hurry.

181 144 Martini, a lot of bee keeping depends on whether you have a reliable supply of pollen. In crop or fruit producing areas, it is generally not a problem and bee keepers haul around the bee hives to these locations to maximize production and sometimes the farmers pay a fee for pollination services.

150 dartist, the bees may not have had a reliable source of pollen for the year. They produce honey to keep the hive fed, not for humans per se. Little pollen around means not much surplus of honey.

200 If you don't already know... Possums eat ticks and fleas along with a host of other pests. They're immune to rabies too. So... not pretty to look at, but do some good around the place. We leave them be. And if they get into the cat food, well the cats know better than to fuck with them.

The only time I've been stung is because I feel something on my arm/hand and try to wipe it off and they sting me.
I walk through swarms of them in the tunnels to pick blackberries and blueberries.

We do a veggie garden every year, so there's that. But probably not enough for a hive. Maybe plant some wildflowers?

My life-long war with wasps began at age 4. Mud wasp nest on the soffet of the neighbor's house. We knew they would sting aand also knew that a nest on the house was a Bad Thing. We did not know much beyond that. So, we determined we would knock the nest down with a stick. About 8 feet long and very twig-ish, as we were 4 year olds.

I was #3. The first two lads took a poke and then dropped the twig , running away. I, being a brave and brilliant lad, poked until I knocked the nest down. Took 4 or 5 pokes, as I remember.

Stung on the left wrist, followed by quite a screaming dance in my front yard.

Mom was minimally sympathetic. More so than when I ate "mushrooms" later that summer.

Correct answer (I think) is to contact anyone with hives within 3 miles. .. (of course one mile radius is some 3.14 miles, pie is good, pi are squared?) maybe I missed that one, idk.

The ensuing chase only got cartoonish from there, as I remember running around the clothesline poll a few times in a daring attempt to confuse the angry bees. I don't recall how many times I got stung, and they were in my clothes as I quickly tore them off after getting inside.

This, absolutely. My husband's grandpa was raised as his mom's sister, since his mom got in the family way when she was about 15 years old. Screwed up all the family tree stuff once we figured it out.

And the story of my many-times-over grandpa shipping to Boston from Scotland--probably not. Unless he was on the lam. No record of him anywhere in Europe, so I assume he made up the name, too.

Dad always maintained that we shouldn't look too far back because our ancestors were mostly likely swinging from some of those family trees.

McCulloch "was a redoubtable frontiersman and a friend and neighbor of Davy Crockett." I asked mom "How could he be Colonel of the Texas Rangers and have a law partner in Little Rock?"

She got lied to. My ancestor was a Joseph B. McCulloch, not Gen. Ben McCulloch.

Depending on the state go or call the DMV with the plate number, VIN and owner's full name. Provide insurance info. Explain the situation. Typically, with some effort, a duplicate title can be issued. Likely in the deceased name. On that title will be lien info, if any.

Then, go through the whole process to have the vehicle retitled in your name, or whomever's. Maybe you'll have to clear the lien, maybe not... depends on the bank/state.

We went through this last summer with a car my mother had just bought before she passed. Paid cash. Title was in her name only.... so needed lawyers to sort out that shit as part of the estate. Took months to resolve. Sold the car back to the dealer and took home the cash.

My great - grandmother was a bit feeble minded. She was "sort of" taken advantage of, and 9 or 10 months later, my grandfather was born.
There was a big paternity suit, and he got his "Father's" name, but was raised by his grandparents (who were quite old in 1895, when my grandfather was born).
He got passed around a lot, and spent his high school years in a boy's school or something like that.
At 20 (1915) he enlisted in the Army. By then, he had already met his future wife (my grandmother) who was 5 years younger. He went off to be on the Mexican border with Major George Patton, where they messed around for a year or so.

Yup. It's a royal pain in the ass to deal with property like this. If you don't already have a lawyer, get one. You'll need it. The thing about titles for vehicles is in the "ownership." It can be in yours AND hers, or yours OR hers, or just one person. It makes a big difference depending on the state as to who can dispose, or take possession of said property. Regardless, the vehicle is part of the estate, usually, so that can be sorted out with the attorneys. It's then a paperwork exercise.

I've traced my ancestors all the way back to when we came to America... and even though you will find my direct ancestors in every single war, you won't find an Officer, or Hero, or any type of famous person.

And they all lived through the various wars... from the French and Indian war, through Valley Forge... Civil War.. WW1 and 2 and Korea. They, like I, just served, then went home to have kids.

524 Part two
My grandfather then went to the Great War in Europe as part of the "Rainbow" division, so -called because it had guys from all over America; not just from one state, where the frequently raised their own regiments, etc.
Came back and married his sweetheart (my grandmother, who was quite a great lady), and in 1921, my mother was born.
And the rest...is history.
Unfortuately, my grandfather died in 1935 if pneumonia. Life was really hard for a few years for my grandmother, my mother and her brother.
Her younger brother (my uncle) served in WWII in Europe in 3rd Army, under General George S. Patton.

my sister in law died back in December, the woman who's named Executor is a good friend of mine, she calls to vent and ask for advice. Sis in laws dad was an oilman, and over the years she acquired a fair number of small oil well holdings - all fractional interests. She didn't keep good records on if they were gifted to her by her dad, or if she purchased them, or whatever, and that happens to make a huge difference when it comes to taxation and estate distribution. The executor is getting it worked out, but its difficult, expensive, and very time consuming to piece the records back together after years have gone by.

There's also been a bit of friction in that she named a friend, rather than either of her sons, to be executor - but I know them both, and I've told them "you should call her every day and thank her for taking on this thankless, hard job for you."

Dad was named Jack. What he though his name was right up until he joined the Navy towards the end of WW2 (as soon as he was old enough). Turns out in Iowa, where he was born, Jack was considered a nickname and you could not NAME your kid that, so on his birth cert his name was John.

582 You can't see "The Day the Clown Cried", it was never released, and supposedly Jerry Lewis tried to buy and destroy all the copies before he died. The best description of it can be found in the Wiki stub, by Harry Shearer, who saw a copy once:

"With most of these kinds of things, you find that the anticipation, or the concept, is better than the thing itself. But seeing this film was really awe-inspiring, in that you are rarely in the presence of a perfect object. This was a perfect object. This movie is so drastically wrong, its pathos and its comedy are so wildly misplaced, that you could not, in your fantasy of what it might be like, improve on what it really is. "Oh, My God!"--that's all you can say."

599 6 years to settle my mom's estate. I was the sole heir and they sold off the property in the first year. She picked the lawyer that handled her car accident to be the executor. He just couldn't be bothered with closing it out. I got 5k, the state and the lawyer got the same. And that's why I'd just as soon not deal with any legal stuff. I do not intend to sit around here for six or seven years for them to settle up the property here.

I normally do the pick-up at Sams because, why not?

But the other day I had to return an item, so I wander in as usual (sans mask). I walk by a mountain of a man who is at the entrance, he directs me to the Customer Service desk where I tow my return, the lady at the counter treated me as well as anyone could expect

But here is the kicker... even though I said I really like the curb-side pick up, she heavily encouraged me to wander through the store to go shopping.

Even though this is only one data point, I can't help but think that management is looking to see when the number of freedom minded customers reach a critical level where they can let their employees roam free - that is why they begged me to go shopping without The Veil.

President Obama has a meeting with Xi Jinping to discuss the debt the US owes to China. He arrives at the Chinese presidential mansion with Joe Biden, but they find there is work going on in the garden and lots of mud everywhere. So they have to roll up their trouser legs and step carefully to enter.

672 And I'm a 35 year IT veteran. It got past stupid shit so I just said fuck it... I'm out. Later losers.

I officially retired July 1, last year, and I was glad to put all of the IT stuff behind me. Completely burned out. I could still work part time, but, no thanks. Plus, every job that comes along has some PPE requirement.

675 No less than Orson Welles was a big fan of the original early 1950s Martin & Lewis, especially their live performances.

He once said "people would pee their pants, they were laughing so much."

And then some d'bag counselor or just some big mouth in a bar tells you how you fucked up and you should've worked harder or been smarter or something and tells you you don't deserve any help or sympathy cause you're a lazy no good bum.

Worse yet is when you're family says the same thing because you didn't live in the same town or even the same state during all of your travails so when you get home you get the stink eye and the same shit only phrased different.

People can be real shits. And strangely enough family is the worst.

677 A comedy about children being killed in the gas chamber by the Nazi's.
Seriously, that's a worse idea than Springtime for Hitler in Germany.

Jeesuz. No wonder the French thought he was a genius.

678 I vaguely remember Jerry Lewis Cinemas being around when I was a kid, but never going to one.

680 DrVarno, yup.

He also had his own restaurant/bar/nightclub at one time... right across the street from Dean Martin's restaurant/bar/nightclub.

Didn't Deano have a career before Lewis?

Yes. Before and after. JL was an ass.

682 What comes first: President Harris assumes her throne, China invades Taiwan, or Texas MoMe?

For bonus points, which event takes longer for the world to recover from?
