in that costs the state would have carried on their own are now being billed out to Washington. I have seen the state Guard headquarters lobbying Forces Command to get their piece of big deployments. I assume this is no different.
Some of the troops there are pawns who want to go home. Others make more money in uniform than they make as civilians, and they are more than happy to be on duty as much as possible.

Early Israel, again, needed bodies with guns.
The Israelis still use a lot of women in the military, but not in combat roles.
I have never been a soldier, as SMH has. But I think actual "combat arms" is harder for women just because they don't have as much upper body strength as men. A lot of women in the military aren't "wimps" or useless. 9 out of 10 people in uniform don't go near combat; logistics, training, maintenance, etc. Women can probably do really well at almost all of that.

Yes i know. And I have said here over and over again that today's Military could not function, or function well, without women. I am 100% in favor of women doing what ever they are capable of doing, which is most of the jobs. But as you and I both know, most of the Military, men and women, are in support units and roles. By and large front line combat units are still male dominated and will continue to be that way for a whole host of reasons.

in the 80s. It is simply part of the structure of the services and
different branches. The Marines are the highest percentage of
combatants, at least that has historically been the case. And of course
I know it still is the case.
Who is against women
in the military? Women have served honorably in various roles
throughout our nation's history and many have died in war. Where they a significant percentage of
troops? No they were not, and still they are not a high percentage in combat. That doesn't change
that women have always served honorably and never more than
now. We have had great female soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen and still do today.
But
politicians and the thinking class are playing games with our national
security now. They don't understand the role of the military. It really
is simple as that.

not sure I go along with that. Many think Colonels are the best rank because at least back in the day many reached that level sans politics. At the Pentagon sure, but people of that rank also command battalions of infanty, large Air Force Air Groups, etc. To be honest, not diminishing anyone's role. But even in the military the tip of the spear is small. Even in the Civil War you have a relatively small group of men on both sides that did most of the fighting. But everyone is important in the military. There are many roles, jobs, MOS'es, etc because they are needed.
