Surprise! Liberal Bougie-Boomer NeverTrumper Adam Kinzinger Votes to "Close Gun-Show Loophole," Impose Universal Background Checks

He claims that of course he supports the Second Amendment -- he just believes in "making some changes for the greater good."

Another "True Conservative" -- unmasking himself.

Weird how these "True Conservatives" keep turning out to be very, very liberal neocons who are only interested in foreign wars and corporate tax cuts.

By the way: You know why this "True Conservative" is going hard left, right?

Because Illinois is losing a Congressional district and the Democrats will decide whose district will be eliminated.

This craven cocksucker is making sure the Democrats know that he's a Democrat in all but name so that they know they should keep his seat while eliminating the seat of a real Republican.

He's not just trying to continue ill-serving his constituents -- he's fighting to make sure a decent conservative gets purged instead of him.

But NeverTrump are fighting for pure principle, right?

Right.

Every day these filthy scumbags find new ways to show off their sick-making stink of their cowardice and fecklessness.

We cannot tolerate the usual failure theater crap anymore. The left is crazy enough to burn down the country and stompy boot any political opposition as 'insurrectionist' at this point. Country club cocktail party asshole Yankee snobs need to be shown the door now if we are going to survive as a country and not be the the 21st century Weimar Republic.

35 "Universal background checks" are a canard and another enabler for the national (and soon to be global) surveillance state. Background checks are already required, there is no "gun show loophole" and none of these problems exist. The solution to those non-existent problems is designed to chill the market, make ownership difficult and make transfers difficult and expensive - all while doing nothing to people who break the law anyway. I guarantee you that the guy buying a hot pistol in an alleyway doesn't give two shits about "universal background checks."

McCarthy survived the Ryan and Boner regimes, he is basically a go along, get along type, and if by some misfortune he becomes Speaker in 2022, would not be able to lead at all.

You basically need someone like Tom Delay in the leadership to enforce party discipline which is difficult for the Republicans historically.

There's a lot of room inside his philosophy for the evil to run rampant... at least for a while. So yeah, eventually people have enough, but who's left to fight once we get to that point? His theory is, it doesn't take a majority to cause this type of change, but again, there's lots of room for lots of death to happen before things get better.

82 For anyone who wonders what the big deal with universal background checks, Colion Noir explains it well.

Basically, if you're a cop who wants to know if a gun you're examining has properly been sold to its current owner with a background check attached, you have to have a data source that contains all known good sales. AKA, gun registration.

What's so wrong with gun registration? It's a good way for government agents to know which houses to hit in order to take guns away from the people.

Here's an Austrian woman talking about how Hitler first got registration of guns (for safety of course), then once things didn't change, he made guns illegal.

Coercion is a limited-use commodity *only* insofar as it is not the norm. YD has made this point a couple of times, so I'll just quote him:
It always follows the exact same pattern: first, the socially acceptable bigotry. Then the socially acceptable violence. Then the state-sanctioned rampage begins. Always the same pattern. If you can't see it happening here, then you're ignorant of everything.

We're in the transition between stages one and two and so the "limited use" coercion is now much *less* limited. Once the transition is complete, it becomes effectively unlimited. Viewing it as limited-use is correct unless the system pivots toward preferring it. We are in the midst of that pivot.

I submit that is probably one of the warning signs of lib-dom, is if they want to use a word in a way that doesn't sound like the traditional way the word is used.

The 2nd amendment not only says that the right to bear arms can't be taken away, but they cannot also *build* laws around it to effectively take it away either. That's in-fringe-ment.

The left characterized this as just an excuse to get rid of all the crap they've gotten into the government which was amusing because at the same time they were also arguing the Constitution is just some old racist rag that should be ignored anyway.

But that's a core part of the left - being able to hold multiple contradictory ideas in your head at one time and believe them to both be true.

Basically, if you're a cop who wants to know if a gun you're examining has properly been sold to its current owner with a background check attached, you have to have a data source that contains all known good sales. AKA, gun registration.

124 48, ace, Police have policies that call for escalation of force when someone is non-compliant. Malice is arguing for a similar continuum of coercion in political terms. Basically the idea is when the velvet glove is taken off from the steel hand of government coercion, the regime loses soft power. Repeated use of escalating coercion results in increased loss of legitimacy until govt rules are justified by naked force solely. Governments can only function with the tacit agreement of a large majority--absent that, a cohesive minority can force limits on government actions (see Nasseb Taleb's latest for that).

We are in a national twilight zone and, right now, we are being governed by the unelected administrative state. The three branches of "divided power" concept is nearly gone, as the Congress has no idea what is in their budget and spending bills, the Executive branch legislates through EO, and the Justices just try to be flexible about the daily inroads by Federal agencies into powers reserved to the states or the people.

There's a lot of truth to this. They can tell that they international order that existed post WWII is over, and the system which they built is now rotted and fragile. It's going to collapse at some point. Everything they do is short-term maneuvering to try and delay that collapse, but makes the eventual collapse even worse.

The establishment had a bunch of social, political, and cultural capital following WWII, and it leverage it over the past half century to gain increasing powers with the promise that they could make our lives better. It's like a business which leverages it's cash flow, property, and good will to finance expansions. However if such a business is managed by idiots, then eventually they will overextend and find themselves unable to meet the promises which they've made. They'll start making bad decisions to keep afloat in the short-term: selling off productive assets, paying off old debt with new, and cooking the books to try and appear stable.

170 116 bonhomme, Like most gun control bills, is is designed to sound good to the population but doesn't work ultimately--see the failure of Canada's Long Arm registry which is far more intrusive and more supported by the population. English law tried at one time to ban the Scottish Claymores as the assault weapons of their time with little success as well.

If you do not have all serial numbers of weapons recorded at the get go, then only new firearms can be traced effectively, not older ones of which there are an estimated 200-300 million of them. Then we get into the advances of modern machining which makes it even easier to circumvent.

The idea behind is to set up the call for more restrictions as these will not work and then either abolishment or confiscation of most firearms ala Great Britain when a mass shooting event occurs. Basically salami tactics. It also allows for direct Immanuel Goldstein type prosecutions of prominent 2A advocates if the state so desires.

The real "gun violence" that drives all of this shit is the fear that the population will react to our increasingly draconian government in a 1776 way.

The message the governing class took from the Jan 6 protest is "if these people were armed and wanted to they could have removed us from power no matter how many fake votes we produced".

It's not so bad with a few workarounds. I taught myself to shoot pistol with both eyes open. The only other adjustment I made is to move the gun slightly to the left of center when I'm presenting it.

For rifle, I moved it over to my left side, which can be tricky with some safeties, and wouldn't work with a bolt gun, but I fire a standard righty M1A with my left hand, no problem.

The worst fucking lie that has infected the GOP is the notion that we can abandon social issues. You can't be socially liberal and fiscally conservative, as a nation. Eventually, one will give way to the other. Either social liberalism will encourage the kind of destructive behavior which increases the demand for government support, or the demand to contain costs will result in society pushing back against said destructive behavior.

The gunshow loophole is basic property rights. I'm with rickb 1000% percent on this.

Yes, the left is trying to create a special category of property rights with guns, and I'm not an expert so maybe there is some other kind of asset you can't freely sell in the market but I can't think of one. Maybe some kind of restricted stocks or something.

But as soon as there is a special category of anything you not only lose 2A rights but property rights in general are holed at the waterline and listing badly.

Yup. It's the ratchet plan. When Universal Background Checks are made law and school shootings and drive-by shootings continue, well, we'll be told we need 'common sense' gun purchase/ownership restrictions, and 'limited' confiscations. When scary 'assault weapons' and high-cap magazines are banned and shootings continue to occur with 10-round pistol mags and semi-auto and pump shotguns, well, guess what will need to be banned?

A one-way loss-of-freedom ratchet project is planned.

It's all play money. Has been for a long long time.

So the tax collection system is not about collecting money. It's about tethering people to the system. Keeping people just a little bit scared that their foundation will be ripped from under them, and keep them from thinking it's actually their "money."

Couldn't name a single provision of the 1934 NFA that's been rolled back, personally. The only one that we ever got back was the AWB, because the sunset clause was specifically written in. If it doesn't have a self-destruct timer, it never goes away.
Posted by: hogmartin at March 11, 2021 03:19 PM (t+qrx)

I can think of relatively few laws that wouldn't be improved with an automatic sunset clause built into it. We should be able to reevaluate laws on a periodic basis to make sure they are still relevant.

Posted by: SMH at March 11, 2021 03:06 PM (n27kQ)

I'm probably being unfair to the vets without political ambitions who are undoubtedly normal and reasonable people, but I'd guess there are some that have been too indoctrinated by their training and environment to have a unwarped perspective on some things.

They lived in an environment where they were not allowed to be armed for their own defense on military bases. Then they start to get more responsibility compared to regular military owing to their "elite" status. Normal Americans, in comparison, lacking even the training of the regular forces, become even more untrained, reckless and dangerous.

So given their own experience adding bureaucratic rules and structure seem like a commonsense way to manage the risk.

397 They lived in an environment where they were not
allowed to be armed for their own defense on military bases. Then they
start to get more responsibility compared to regular military owing to
their "elite" status. Normal Americans, in comparison, lacking even the
training of the regular forces, become even more untrained, reckless and
dangerous.

So given their own experience adding bureaucratic rules and structure seem like a commonsense way to manage the risk.

90 percent of "regular forces" never fire an sidearm in the military. They certainly do not train with them on a regular basis. Really what a normal citizen needs to learn first is gun safety, and then marksmanship. But those who served in the military are also another group that have no higher authority regarding 2A rights. Hell cops have more official sidearm experience, and for many it is pretty weak.

Talk only. The last one to even pretend was Paul Ryan. Th GOP has been mad for spending since at least Bush II.

400 118 Gun registration is a despotic tactic as old as time. If Kinzdouchebag knew any history he would know that. Even Hollywood knows it. In the original Red Dawn one of the first thing the commies do is pull the list of gun owners from the sheriff and put them in camps.

I wasn't making a defense for it, simply hypothesizing what drives people like Crenshaw to go all-in on red flag laws and such.

I know there's a lot of ego and elitism between forces that have or haven't deployed, been in actual combat or not, and I have a feeling that is going to contribute to a strong hierarchy of who responsible gun owners would be in their minds.

406 I don't want to listen to Malice, I don't want to even know what he has to say. ... Didn't rather ...

I would be gobsmacked if a future me stepped out of their timetravel machine and said hey guess what early banana you're gonna be an anarchist in a few years. FU future banana I'm not a filthy anarchist destroying all our wonderful civilization.

And here I am. All of authority has failed. In their basic fucking obligations they have failed and have become a monster. Here I am completely on Michael's side. And I'm not going back.

Being against a repressive government isn't anarchy, it is opposition to tyranny.

407 Wifey loved Beck when he was on FOX daily under Obama. I was ambivalent. The crying and the whiteboarding were a bit much.

One day he was talking about Net Neutrality. Had a guest on and they both managed to spew the most egregious lies, half truths and mistruths about how the internet works (a subject I'm semi familiar with) and how "net neutrality" was going to damage us. Mind you I *know* net neutrality sucks but it had nothing to do with the ham fisted shit they were saying.

I guess i'm the opposite of Gell Mann. You talk really dumb shit about something I know, I'm going to immediately question everything else you've ever expertly informed me about. I never gave him the time of day after that.
