James Lindsay, super-antiracist
@ConceptualJames

An important difference between you and the Woke is that if they see the opening, they'll demand your resignation or firing in a heartbeat and won't stop until they get it. You, meanwhile, will argue against removing from their positions even when they abuse them, and you.

This does give you the moral high ground, but it also guts every institution and removes all access of reasonable, liberal, and fair people to the power to resist. You cannot argue your way out of a power grab. You have to hit back until they're scared to raise their fist.

Keep getting this wrong long enough, and you won't have a society in which your morality is worth anything. Get it right strategically and powerfully enough just a few times, and you can actually start to fight for your principles again. Time's almost up.

James Lindsay, super-antiracist
@ConceptualJames

Got asked: Does it really end when the lies becomes unsustainable?

It depends.

If they have enough power at that point, no. If so, that's when the Terror begins.

This guy used to be a lefty -- until he got a look at the woke Terror that's coming.

I wonder when the "right"-leaning press of Conservative, Inc. will wake up to reality.

This is correct but ultimately the situation is too far gone. The balance of powers requires both sides to struggle against one another in competition, if one party abdicates on the grounds that power ought not to be used you arrive at where we are today.

66 People forget that the French, Russian, and Chinese Revolutions were originally against a hated ancien regime. There was tacit majority support to become republics in the first two (and the short lived Cromwellian republic in UK) based on the idea that a restoration would lead to punishment of the perpetrators.

The terrors that followed came from the counter revolutions which in France sought to restore the monarchy, in Russia, a republic, and in China, the long term struggle in a vast country for superiority between warlords, the Chiang Kai-Shek republic, and the communists interrupted only by the Japanese invasion.

Stalin could institute his terrors because he had already consolidated party control over the bureaucracy and the army at the time via a highly effective secret police and a population used to brutal leaders and extrajudicial killings.

An important difference between you and the Woke is that if they see the opening, they'll demand your resignation or firing in a heartbeat and won't stop until they get it. You, meanwhile, will argue against removing from their positions even when they abuse them, and you.

This reminds me of the Republicans who go on TV and say that Democrat presidents should get the people they want and the Democrats who go on TV and say Republican presidents should not. The gentlemanly George Will types get their asses kicked but look so good in their nice suits.

I mentioned this yesterday. It doesn't matter if you're in Nazi Germany or Soviet Ukraine, or WWI Ottoman Armenia, or '90s Rwanda, or '70s China.

It always follows the exact same pattern: first, the socially acceptable bigotry. Then the socially acceptable violence. Then the state-sanctioned rampage begins. Always the same pattern. If you can't see it happening here, then you're ignorant of everything.

Has Ben Shapiro woken up yet? He is one of the classic "conservatives" who happily joins the Left when the target for cancellation is someone to his right. He prides himself on 'calling out' his own side, stating that this should prove to the Left he is principled and reasonable.

Except. . . they don't give a crap, as demonstrated with many at The Atlantic revolting when they published a guest post from Shapiro.

97 And unsurprisingly, Tim Scott offers a splendid example of sloppy or dumb "reasoning". He told a TV interviewer that "woke" is as bad as "white supremacy".

Leaving aside the enormous error of accepting "woke" as something sane or acceptable - and not the totalitarian racism it obviously is - let's just focus on Tim's bigger failure.

What in the wide wide world of sports, senator, is "white supremacy"?? What is its "program"? Where have elements of this program been introduced? By whom? Are there laws advancing it? Are there public-funded brainwashing programs pushing it? Who are its leaders? What are the major written works defining it? Any public holidays based on it?

Stupidly accepting the existence of this ridiculous imaginary "problem" or "threat" is of course SOP these days. Not a single figure in the public square even close to responding appropriately. A dumbed-down society "led" by sub-mediocre "elites" is a toxic combo.

The French terror wasn't from the counter-revolution. In both Russia and France the revolution was lead by intellectual-elite types and centered in cities. The counter-revolution is comprised more of the general population but represents a variety of different interests rather a truly unified force. The rural areas that supported the counterrevolution were later also those that supported Napoleon's return.

108 Basically, terror works best when the population being terrorized is not armed and people have already become accustomed to mass killings whether by revolution, invasions, civil wars, etc.

The religious wars between Protestants and Catholics happened when sovereign rulers decided to use those characteristics as a wedge to get power and territory and thus incited religious wars. The massive killings occurred because once blood is shed, the political system has little to do with what follows--it becomes a matter of power and will rather than laws.

There is per sources in Revelation, a reign of terror at some point. Nobody knows when or how. There are various theories and no way to say what will occur, and often our attempts to understand before the fact, leave us slapping our foreheads after the fact saying "duh" that's what that meant. . .

That said, there is a lead up. Some difficulties. A bad spell. A reversal, with a period of peace, world wide. Another reversal, really bad times, for some period, and then all the better times. When, how - nobody here knows.

145 104, Red turban guy, what caused the terror was that Louis XVI and his rather stupid wife, Marie, decided to flee captivity and seek Habsburg and other royals support for a counter revolution and invasion by foreign troops. Thus, the king and queen were deposed, the radicals made sure that it would be a republic, and they fought off invasions by foreign troops designed to restore the monarchy. In Russia, the failure of the Whites to coalesce around what they wanted post civil war was aggravated by foreign troops (US and UK among others) sent to Archangel in order to give support to the Whites. That consequence allowed the NKVD to institute massive extrajudicial killings as justified by a threat to nation.

Monarchies were the globalists of the era as many of the royal families and aristocracy were intermarried with foreign aristocrats as an instrument of policy. In both the Russian and French cases, the resistance against the restoration of monarchs was also based on nationalism due to dislike for domestic politics to be controlled by those with foreign allegiances which could be exploited to bring in foreign assistance.

147 All you have to do to the Left is say no. Apologize? NO. Turn your institution upside down? NO. Accept the nation is systemically flawed and irredeemable? NO.

The easiest way to confront a bully is to stand up to him. Sure there will still be a lot of work to be done, but it has to start with saying no. Conservatives and Repubs are constantly asked to apologize for something about America, condemn some other conservative or normal etc. They are always on the defensive because the left has the culture, certainly the media and social media culture. The first thing to stop this is to say "NO!" and leave it at that.

After that, the real work begins. But the power the left has right now is a heat check, even they can't believe how far they have pushed things so easily. We are always on the defensive these days. That was not true about Trump personally, but in general this is so.

It depends.

If they have enough power at that point, no. If so, that's when the Terror begins.

So, a month or so to the Terror beginning, when enough Joe Normal Unity voters realize they were had? Although for me, the lies became unsustainable in the 2008 POTUS campaign.

And me neither. They threw away the greatness that was Shout for shit like Girls, Girls, Girls? I assume that there was just a lot a money and pussy in ballads and anthems. Only explanation for later Crue and the explosion of imitators that emerged. Poison, for example, wasn't a band so much as a conspiracy to get laid.

173 Steven Tyler really should retire from live shows at this point. I am a longtime fan of Aerosmith but there is a huge creepy factor in a 72 year old croaky voiced rock star singer about banging a strange girl in an elevator. Tyler and Perry both look like what the end effects of massive drug taking does to an aging body. Add in the stringy dyed long hair and oversized crowned teeth and the visual appeal is non existent.

The counterrevolution was a largely rural vs urban movement in France. See the War in the Vendee. Counterrevolutionary movement are "anti" movements composed of many groups that aren't individually pluralities.

As for the revolution itself, that's merely the typical collapse of absolute monarchies to the bureaucratic lower elites. You'll note that the situation stabilizes when enough of this section of the population is killed off. The abundance of those living off the government creates an unmanageable situation, except by shrinking their names, which in itself provokes conflict with the powerful bureaucracy. The powerful bureaucracy originally created to enforce the king's will.

The Obama people were gleeful and giddy about the power to kill, the first time around, 2009-2017. They did frequent drone stikes of alleged terrorists in Afghanistan, evidence often flimsy, then would shoot another missile into the crowd when the villagers turned out to look
at the wreckage.

The our troops got killed facing the enraged locals due to absurd rules of engagement. No rules for the Olympians, absurd rules for the little people.

It had not occurrred to me at the time that those little figures in the infrared video, disappearing in a fireball, would be us at some point. Now I'm wondering when it will start. Of course they're willing to kill us. They'll feel ten feet tall with a hard-on.

I alluded to why in my comment. As long as you listen to him for conservative hot button issue arguments, he's rock solid. Where Shapiro really goes off the rails is advocating GOP strategy, silencing other conservatives for non-policy reasons, and other things of that nature.

I'm actually fine with Shapiro. As he's the only one that is providing a platform for Gina Carano, I appreciate his efforts to set up an alternate ecosystem as well. Until someone more to my leanings does so as well, I'm not going to harsh on him too much. Caveat emptor, however.

The Masters of Reality show I saw was delayed like 15 minutes because the mix was bad. Ginger Baker riffed on the drums the whole time and nobody felt bored at all. 308 195 Red Turban Guy,
To some extent we are talking past each other. The major factor that precipitated the need for a counter revolution was the fleeing of Louis XVI and his wife from captivity and their seeking Hapsburg, along with other monarchs' assistance in putting down their political opponents. What would have happened if they had stayed put is debatable, what happened after their flight and seeking foreign assistance was pretty much a foregone conclusion.

There were a whole host of issues facing the Monarchy in France but first and foremost was that the state was bankrupt. The 7 Years War and the subsequent French support for the American Revolution and the losses sustained by France destroyed what was left of French fiscal policies and necessitated the calling of the Estates. What the French lost both in territory and financial losses in these wars was not balanced by their meager financial gains via the US post Treaty of Paris.

Halfway through the concert he sent the rest of the band off for a break and he sat on the edge of the stage with his guitar and sang his heart out. He had an absolutely pure voice that was beautiful to hear. It was nothing that could be captured by any recording I ever heard. He was AMAZING in person.

It was actually kind of disappointing when the rest of the band came back.

I am a huge fIREHOSE fan. Anything Mike Watt did or does, really...but, they were famoulsy bad as an opening band as they were a DIY band.

Nobody doing sound but the the guys from the other crews. Almost never even had stage monitors hooked up at those gigs.

Saw them in AZ once with about 15 other people. They played a full show and afterwards they ordered Pizzas and spent the night hanging out with us all and goofing through a ton of covers and old Minutemen tunes.

Awesome night.

That would be terrible to see. Jerry Garcia was a messed up person but dang could he play and sing. I liked his solo stuff even better than his Grateful Dead work.

The Dead is a big mix, some of it is just awful and some is timeless. Everyone thinks of them as being hippie stoner rock (which it kind of is) but they're more roots/bluegrass influenced. I could see Allison Krauss singing some of their stuff.

I know the live shows were supposed to be where its at but I think that's mostly because everyone was stoned out of their mind at the time. Listening to a 45 minute meandering version of Casey Jones does not appeal.

The counterrevolution emerges as a reaction to various policies of the revolution. While you do of course have loyalist nobles who have vested interests in a prior regime, the Catholic and Royal Army was originally just the Catholic Army and had peasant leaders. If you examine the pedigree of the leaders of revolutions in absolutist states they are all of the elite. Marx's worker's revolt doesn't happen, one group of elites out of a very large elite population facing a limited number of jobs(which are draining the state) launches a bid for power. Most nobles just become bureaucrats in the new regime.

In order to have an absolutist monarchy you need a big bureaucracy. Typically by this point the Church has been brought to heel, and the use of government offices is part of controlling and placating the aristocracy. You have "strong" kings who establish the system followed by "weak" kings who fall victim to it as the bureaucracy grows to the point where it destabilizes the country.

You kinda see them live to get it. The way they can carry an audience is amazing. 1978-1982 were some good years for them, and the late 80s into 1990. They were energetic and uneven, but when they were on, they were on, effortlessly.

You gotta like improvisational jams, though, so there is a bit of a barrier.

376 I'm not disappointed in Shapiro as much because I never thought of him as more than conservative-lite to attract the non-conservative, much like Joel Osteen for non-Christians. Shapiro has a particular lane, and it's best that he stay in it.

Osteen doesn't really teach Christianity at any level, but I get what you mean. Crowder is in the same category: he connects well with younger people, especially college kids. And that's good, as far as it goes.

Oddly enough I thought that Glenn Beck kinda did that for people, he was Conservative 101, then went... nuts.

378 Best I saw was the Dirt Band in Calgary, before they dropped the Nitty Gritty.

Worst, Rod Stewart in Edmonton, he was so hammered I was too embarrassed for him to stay longer than 30 minutes.

I saw them too. Crap I have been to a lot of concerts for someone who never goes to concerts lol. But are you saying this was before Nitty Gritty or after? I guess I could look it up. Oh ok, I didn't know they dropped it, so basically you saw The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.

Saw him at Summerfest and after the show we took him home to my friend's parents house for Fried Chicken!

Had seen and met him about 3 years earlier at The New School in NYC.
The Young Jazz Giants show. Wynton, Branford, McBride, Whitfield, Blanchard et al.

Miles Davis walked in mid-set, straight up onto the stage, played 3 songs with them and walked out.

Didn't say a wrod to anyone.

381 Agreed. My favorites shows have been at places like the Orpheum or State Theater. Put a band in a place built for sound, and they'll sound good. Put them in a place built for sports, and they'll... sport good?

Closer to a last straw. Look at our current situation with our massive bureaucracy and ever more clamoring to suck on the government teat. That was where France was. Why doesn't the king just kill the original mobs in the street(as is frequently done successfully to crush peasant revolts)? Well like antifa, they're related to people the king doesn't want to piss off. Robespierre has a pretty standard elite background.

387 The best performers I saw regularly were Hank JR. and Alabama. Hank would riff like crazy and go way outside of country at times. He loved to grab the bongo drums but it is what it is.

The one concert I attended that I was a bit let down by was The Highwaymen. Sure they were old, hell, two of them are dead now. But those guys were legends. I distinctly recall Willie phoning it in that night. Still it was great seeing those guys playing live.
Posted by: Quint

Seeing Willie, Waylon, Merle, George, Johnny or any of the others in concert back in '82 - '86 would have cut deeply into the available beer money.

Still can find live music at bars here in Arizona. And once the WuFlu scare dies out, which appears to be happening, I expect clubs will reopen, or new ones appear. It was mentioned earlier that Oklahoma has just opened up again.

389 Miles Davis walked in mid-set, straight up onto the stage, played 3 songs with them and walked out.

Man had a lot of hate in his soul. Granted a lot of it was justified but still, he went above and beyond the call.

When I saw John Lee Hooker, dude looked 12300 years old. he sat on a chair and sang just a little, played that guitar like a genius, but everyone around him sang more and played more. He was giving it his all but damn you could tell he was one foot in the grave. Still was a good show.

There was a local Portland act called the Blubinos I saw several times. Great band, really tight, and the lead singer was not just amazing on the guitar but had a great stage presence and wrote funny, interesting songs.

But he was a huge ass, a completely insufferable personality who ruined himself over and over. If you've ever seen The Mambo Kings, you know what I'm talking about. They could have been big time but for the guy's constant self destructive stupidity.

390 >>Oddly enough I thought that Glenn Beck kinda did that for people, he was Conservative 101, then went... nuts.

Yes. When Beck first had his weekday Fox News show he was great -- he had this sirt of breathless enthusiasm of someone who had just learned something and was dyin to share it with others. His weeklong series on Soros was amazing when you consider how back then (and even now to a large extent) people just never went ther. Beck was there with his whiteboard teaching you the key terminiolgy that IDs them, how many organizations are tied to the Open Sociaty org, all of the people who have been funded and influenced by it -- it was a revelation. Beck has the ability to be really good, but it's sporadic.

394 Something to ponder if the current load of shit is wearing on anyone--a quick browse through our history will reveal there have been many issues and situations that we have met and prevailed over, more than a few every bit as serious as the current mess.

Given who we are, I see no reason that in time we will add this to the string of unbroken successes so far enjoyed. These pudsnackers won A battle, but we still own the war. So don't let this crap dismay you, and keep the head HIGH and PROUD.

I'll tell you what - I would have loved loved loved that show. I wasn't really into jazz back then, and when I finally got to it I thought 1959 was the peak, and had no interest in anything after that. That group you mentioned above, however, was doing some amazing stuff.

I did see Christian McBride at Carnegie Hall, when he played bass for Sonny Rollins for the' 50th Anniversary of his Carnegie debut. Took my girlfriend, whom I ended up marrying later.

Definitely Top 3 Concert material.

403 347, Red Turban guy, I can understand where you are coming from which is a similar argument made by James Burnham in his Managerial Revolution book.

But generally, during the reign of absolute monarchs in the West, a lot of the debt and spending came from continuous wars for territory or glory. The earlier and mostly forgotten Fronde revolt in France occurred around Franco-Spanish War.
So if you count the military as part of the bureaucracy, I would agree. I would also characterize most revolutionaries people like Lenin, Castro, Ortega, as middle to upper middle class rather than true elites of their society.

For the most part, we do not remember the failed revolutionaries that struck at the wrong time but few, if any, were actually prominent actors in government. Talleyrand, that old rascal, was the closest thing to an elite but his switches to save his hide and power were purely personal rather than revolutionary.
