Racist Madman in Charge of Nancy Pelosi's Taskforce Proposes Permanent Military Force to "Protect" DC

I'm sure the "anti-authoritarians" of NeverTrump will be writing many scathing blogposts about this.

A task force charged with making recommendations to boost congressional security after a deadly Jan. 6 pro-Trump mob assault on Capitol Hill has proposed establishing a permanent military presence ready to go at a moment's notice in Washington, D.C.

The security review, led by retired Army Lt. Gen. Russel Honore, who ran military relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina, recommended establishing a permanent National Guard quick reaction force, or QRF, for all of D.C.

...

"This could be done by mobilizing military police from Guard elements across the U.S. on rotations of three to six months," the task force's report states. "Another option would be to create a QRF that permanently resides within the D.C. Guard by reestablishing a military police battalion and staffing it with active Guard reserve troops who live in or near the city year-round, perpetually on active duty."

Remember when recommending temporarily using the guard to suppress deadly riots in multiple cities was something you couldn't propose in the NYT?

Final tally: zero.

Gee, no wonder the left is so afraid that they now want to turn D.C. into an armed fortress.

From experience, other states will send in some their NG to assist. For example: during Hurricane Katrina the LAARNG's 256th Infantry was in Iraq. During the massive 2010 flooding in the Nashville area the TNARNG's 278th ACR was in Iraq. Other states contributed guard units to help out in those cases.

207 Trump's move to deny GOP entities use of his name is sort of curious, if the idea is to incrementally take over the party.

I don't think that's his goal at all but if it was, it doesn't actually hurt that. He wants control, not for them to use him for their control. If he can weaponize his name and appearance only for what he wants, he takes that away from the existing GOPe leadership.
Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at March 09, 2021 12:34 PM (KZzsI)

I see it as Trump himself deciding who gets to "use" his name, through the simple act of himself campaigning for or talking up candidates. He's still an active participant, after all; unlike Reagan, he's still here and he's making it clear that any coat-tailing has to go directly through him. Grifters and liars can't get away with appealing to his memory to con conservatives out of their money when they're really on the opposite side to Trump.

1) The Dems are trying to leverage the fear they created in their base over January 6th -- they are going to use this for as long as possible. The Chancellorsville blood libel was used for so long because it was effective among the Democrat base.

2) After the Dems succeed with using their scummy, illegal tactics, they always try to close the door to the GOP using the Dems' tactics against them. The Dems used BLM and Antifa as shock troops; staged political violence for political benefit. They are now closing off potential avenues of a right-wing version of BLM / Antifa. Only the Dems will have stormtroopers that are allowed in the streets to conduct acts of political violence, protected by well-funded support networks.

Yes, Evangelical.

It's sort of a free speech case but it's more about whether nominal damages claims are still viable after an organization changes the policy at issue.

Basically, the case is about trying to still have there be some kind of consequences to entities that restrict civil rights when, upon being sued, the organization goes "oh fine our bad" and changes the policy then moves to dismiss for mootness.

The problem with dismissal for mootness is that this makes it attractive for organizations to violate and dare to be sued because there will be no true financial penalties.

My speculation only, but I think that Pence teased Trump into the trap by being coy with what he was going to do until it was too late, and the Trump rally went forward because it was to show popular support for the GOP objections to election certification -- giving the GOP pols cover if the certification vote went differently.

The Dems and the GOPe used this to create the specter of the "insurrection", that the GOPe thought would finally purge Trump from their ranks.

346 It appears there's a scrum going on at this time, since everyone in DC seems to be making things up as they go. Congress doesn't know what it's supposed to be doing, so it's flailing around wildly, taking on tasks that are constitutionally left to the states or the executive.

Courts, especially the SC, seem to be abdicating all responsibility to interpret the law, and are now making laws.

Meanwhile, the executive is acting like an apex predator, going around to where Trump left his mark, and marking all those spots to cover his scent.

And nothing like leadership is bein demonstrated anywhere. Everyone seems to be responding to someone else's orders. The oligarchs, no doubt.

_________________

There is an important exception to the mootness principle in law: "capable of repetition, yet evading review." It means that you don't decide cases on mootness grounds when the same issue can come up over and over again, without time to resolve it. This exception was used in the Roe v. Wade case, where the plaintiff Roe had already had her baby by the time the case made it to SCOTUS.

In a college case, a student whose speech rights are unconstitutionally infringed is not going to be able to get his case before SCOTUS before he graduates -- just like Roe couldn't get her case there before she delivered her baby. Just not enough time. But if the same issue is going to come up again, the court should hear and decide the case anyway.

I'm in the camp that believes Roberts is desperate to avoid the court making any controversial decisions. When they have to do so, he tries to find a way to punt it back to the legislative or executive branches with the narrowest ruling possible. Of course, in doing so he's had to so gut the Court's authority that that there's no longer any respect for it. The Dems know that they can keep pushing and eventually he'll capitulate rather than make a tough decision. The irony is that if he'd made a few tough, principled rulings early on, it likely would have kept a lot of this crap from occurring.

There is an exception to mootness if the facts of the case are such that (like with a 9 month pregnancy) external timeframes are imposed that would effectively cause the case to evade judicial review.

Roberts' dissent doesn't make sense, but watch him use it in other contexts to support a finding of mootness where the case itself will be much closer.

To forestall using the regulars and rely on NG units is indication of...something not good. To imagine that this ONE rally on that ONE day would suddenly become the vehicle for a fake "armed insurrection", Trump would have to be almost Godlike in his prescience. Especially since, as I said before, he is accused of running an insurrection against himself while president.

The fact of the matter is that even before he stopped speaking, people who were NOT Trump supporters were being let into the Capitol building by the Capitol police and were already running around making trouble.

Sadly, Thomas was wrong. Once HR 1 is passed by the Senate and signed by Paste-Eatin' Joe, The Emperor Pants Shitter, there will never be another election challenge of the type that Our Black-Robed Masters failed to take up. I.e., complaining that unconstitutional changes were made by judges and state legislatures to state election law. HR 1 destroys all that.

However, there still may be a challenge to HR 1's constitutionality that makes it to the Supremes. So perhaps Thomas is only 90% wrong.

I agree, and I think that it is our moral duty to push things until it crashes sooner than later.

474 THERE is the dog that did not bark.

The other dog is that nothing actually happened on 1/6. Some guy cosplaying as Barney Rubble disrespected Pelosi's gavel. I don't give a shit.

475 I didn't watch the interview but my sister did. She said Meghan came across as dumber than a box of rocks. She apparently had no interest in actually learning and researching the family and country she was marrying into; she thought it was no different than marrying a Hollywood celeb. So, clearly the idea that actual responsibilities might be involved were a big shock to her.
_____________

I don't believe that. She is not dumb. She is, however, very dishonest and manipulative.

Her ex-BFF, maid of honor at her 2nd wedding (to the producer guy who got her the job on Suits), grew up with MeAgain, and she says that MeAgain was obsessed with the Royals as a kid. She had Diana biographies in her bedroom bookcase. They took a trip to London as teens and MeAgain wanted to see Buckingham Palace first (you may have seen that photo of her online, on the fence in front of the palace).

She knew exactly who Harry was when she set her sights on him, and she knew exactly what she was getting into. But admitting that wouldn't help her, so she lies and pretends she was just some naive kid (much like Diana was when she married Chuck), so that people will feel sorry for her.

The problem is that everyone knows they cheated, but shuffling him off too soon will likely piss off a lot of voters who don't like Kamala. I would also imagine that they a) want to let him take a lot of the heat for controversial decisions and EOs so that Kamala can sweep in as the hero who fixes everything, and b) are currently divided inside the admin between various factions who want power. Biden is a figurehead, which means each faction has influence. Once Kamala is in, one side or another is going to gain the upper hand.

I will say it for the umpteenth time, they are never going to do anything that gives traction to the dementia story. Joe will suffer a serious medical incident. They are busy trying to set the stage.

477 430 To imagine that this ONE rally on that ONE day would suddenly become the
vehicle for a fake "armed insurrection", Trump would have to be almost
Godlike in his prescience. Especially since, as I said before, he is
accused of running an insurrection against himself while president.

wait... so, you're saying the lefties believe that trump is the god emperor of the united states? i that was an alt-right thing.

I agree, but they still need time to establish Joe as the President. Too early and it will be obvious what is happening. Additionally, too early and public anger might put steel into GOP spines regarding the pick of VP.

481 Military.com is apparently a hack site with hack writers.

"Five people died during the siege, including Capitol Hill police officer Brian Sicknick."

We've known that wasn't true for WEEKS now. We've known that the ONLY person killed by another person was Ashli.

(Yeah, I know I'm late. But the article pissed me off.)
