The historical truth is that one cannot make a distinction between anti-Judaism (meaning anti-Jewish) and anti-Semitism. The bias embedded in anti-Semitism is rooted in anti-Judaism. Anti-Semitism has multiple strains. Religious and cultural hatred of Jews goes back to Greek and Roman times. Racial anti-Semitism became the new strain in the 18th century. History is filled with a variety of anti-Jewish forms of hatred.

So Israelis should be driven into the sea, but it's just A-Ok for a few pet Jews to live on West End Avenue? Sorry, but that won't fly. And rest assured, they do it with others. Just look at the vitriol poured on Evangelical Christians and Catholics who are pro-life. But they like the other ones...promise!

Some time ago I was chatting with the Daughters of Diogenes and the subject of the family dog came up. They were sad to see her go to the puppy farm when we got reassigned to Germany, but knew she was happy there. She wouldn't have to wear the cone of shame anymore.

As a young army officer, I worked with some Israeli officers years ago. They were sharp guys but it was an eye opener for me. I had already become the standard American Army dude...a global perspective with folks just back from Viet Nam, troops in Korea, troops in Europe, etc. These guys were very focused on one region. It offered a very different concept of what mattered.

I've been to Israel, and I live in the United States. You can find human rights violations in both places (for sure here, and I have a high degree of confidence regarding Israel, since it also exists in the real world).

My own take was that I could not imagine pulling a dog's tail. I'm surprised that he wasn't really bitten if he did so even with a very nice dog. I think some service dogs can be trained not to snap at tail pulling, but they are probably very rare and it only works for emergency situations.

I turned off the first season after three episodes because everything was moving at a snail's pace. There was a cool action scene in episode 2, I gave it another episode, and I was back to directionless storytelling that hardly moved. With reference to 1967, a really good book is "Six Days of War" by David Oren.
Does a very good job (in one volume) of dicussing the origins of the Six Day War, the war itself, and the aftermath.
Almost all the Israeli politicians of the time expected to give back the land won in the war, in exchange for a lasting peace treaty.
They eventually gave back Gaza to Egypt, and did get a peace treaty.
As for the West Bank, etc, there was never a peace treaty concluded, and that land will likely remain part of Israel forever, now.

One of the things I love about Justified is there was precious little "filler" in each season. Each season was its own story and there was one overarching story.
You could say the cases of the week eps were filler, but you're talking about 8 hour seasons. There were a couple subplots that are generally hated, but for the most part everything was relevant. And they didn't dig into the personal lives of any non-main character which is probably my favorite thing of all.

So, if it's a nice day out today consider going out, if it's only for a few minutes during lunch. It's sunny here and in the 60's FenSon (who is on school break) and I went out for breakfast outside at a crepe place .( I had a crepe filled with brie, some kind of store made jam, bacon and arugula-delicious!) Unfortunately, we could not visit the art museum because it was closed (which is dumb!, dumb!, dumb!; I don't want to see their collection online) but we walked by the gardens, where we saw Adam's Needle, which is striped plant with long leaves, Japanese Barberry-a red berry, and one of my favorites Pussy Willow which is good to see and to touch. Even in winter before the plants mostly bloom there are nice things to look at and blessings to enjoy.

Putting aside the incredible wokeness of being that is Captain Marvel, I think the biggest flaw in the film is that there is never any genuine tension / conflict, because nothing ever is a serious threat to her. Its just 2 hours of her being empowered and then being more empowered. Its just boring trash.

One of the things I love about Justified is there was precious little "filler" in each season. Each season was its own story and there was one overarching story.
You could say the cases of the week eps were filler, but you're talking about 8 hour seasons. There were a couple subplots that are generally hated, but for the most part everything was relevant. And they didn't dig into the personal lives of any non-main character which is probably my favorite thing of all.

Its just 2 hours of her being empowered and then being more empowered. Its just boring trash.

That's extremely impressive, actually, and the asset deserves a ton of credit. That kind of extremely long-term op rarely works. After being immersed for so long, the operator often goes native. He must have had some serious commitment to the homeland along with force of will to continuously be able to tell himself - for *years* - that "this is evil, this is the enemy, you are here to deceive and remain loyal; you must disregard their way while emulating it for the benefit of your own homeland."

That was always Paul's position, and as I posted above, Paul's Church ended up becoming THE Church. The Roman Catholic hierarchy did a really brilliant bit of politicking when they claimed to be founded by Peter, who was at best on the fence about the issue. By claiming a link to Peter's supposed authority, while in fact being the embodimentand heirs of Paul's theology, they laid a claim to represent All Christians, of any theological persuasion. They knew what they were doing.

I know pistol burns faster, but beggers and choosers might be our only option at some point in the future.

Daredevil, like all the Netflix Marvel shows, has a lot of padding. Some more than others. Daredevil had the least, but it was still there, you could trim each show by at least a third and still have a solid story. Each MCU Netflix show had too much time to tell each story they had, so they had to pad each episode out considerably.
And I agree that the first Star Trek film has a lot of padding in it as well. I very much prefer tight, direct storytelling where everything in a book or show serves the story, but that's a newer style. Old books have a tone of padding because it was about the journey for the reader, not the destination.

Jews aren't under the jurisdiction of the Church so the entire focus of the Inquisition was crypto-Jews and heretics(people claiming to be Catholics). Naturally some of those targets weren't actually crypto-Jews or heretics. But the expulsion of the Jews and expulsion of the Moriscos was a separate policy by the Crown, which also ran the Spanish Inquisition, and was not directly related to the Inquisition.
By the time of the expulsion though most of the population had already converted at some point, and when the expulsion occurred many opted to convert.

There was a guy did a Federal Hunt / Survey of Calibers and their respective effect on Elk...like every caliber that was available at the time. Killed hundreds and hundreds of Elk for the FS.

Agreed. You can find a load for 30-06 to take just about any large mammal in North America. I wouldn't risk it on moose or even elk.
There was a guy did a Federal Hunt / Survey of Calibers and their respective effect on Elk...like every caliber that was available at the time. Killed hundreds and hundreds of Elk for the FS.

I think the biggest flaw in the film is that there is never any genuine tension / conflict, because nothing ever is a serious threat to her.
It had a ton of flaws, but yeah the Mary Sue nature of the character made her kind of dull to watch. You can work around that (they've done it with Superman for over 80 years now) but the writers of Captain Marvel were not up to the task. They wrote a lot of lame scenes, lacked drama or tension, the character was unlikable, and worse, they didn't make it fun. Of all the MCU films, its the poorest, even worse than Iron Man 3, which had some good moments.

They really haven't done it successfully with Superman either. They keep making these films, and they keep sucking. Basically, you have to find a way to deliver the one difficult-to-obtain substance that can hurt him and then leverage his inexplicable love for an obnoxious, dumb newspaperwoman. Zod was the only interesting thing to ever come from Superman.

The comics have pulled it off many times over the years, and the first Superman film actually worked great because it was an intro: see what he can do! And his inability to stop both missiles (despite being able to fly at the speed of light) created dramatic tension.

Romans 2 is interesting on this. "Salvation" imo is Biblically different for the "born again" Christian, and the Resurrection of the Just. Old Testament, some works were required (there is also Resurrection of the unjust). But the "Make Jesus Lord" thing is no one night emotional decision, a deep audit of the heart is performed first, I'd guess.

IIRC, Amazon basically supplies the trucks, uniforms, and a GPS system to provide a planned route, gives you a nearly impossible delivery schedule, but you're a third-party contractor and they have no liability if you get into an accident or get hurt.

I have not watched any Wandavision (don't have Disney) so I do not know but I have heard starkly contrasting reactions, either that its a horrible disaster or that its super clever and great. Its either obscure and some people don't get it, or so niche that some love it and others find it lousy, I don't know.
Didn't sound interesting to me, though. I don't like the character and the actress does nothing for me.

The comics have pulled it off many times over the years, and the first Superman film actually worked great because it was an intro: see what he can do! And his inability to stop both missiles (despite being able to fly at the speed of light) created dramatic tension.
But yeah, the rest were pretty much a fail.

The two part movie of death of Superman and Reign of the Superman did far better with his death by Doomsday and resurrection than Zak Snyder could ever hope for. That goes double for Whedon.

I've considered letting them in for bathroom breaks, but I'm just not quite comfortable enough. I do let them refill their water bottles with our drinking water dispenser outside and let them park their vans at the end of the drive if they need a break.
