I was just out driving around and listening to Chris Plante's podcast from yesterday. He says that he knows a few people in Washington from all his years on the Washington beat.
And his sources tell him Biden wanders aimlessly around the White House, walking from room to room. He often finds himself in the VP office (because he remembers that route) and gets confused and realizes that's not his office. Along with this he'll breeze right past the Oval Office at times.
I recognize this behavior from my wife's grandmother in a nursing home. They threatened to lock her in her room.
Also, he reported that Biden had a meeting with GOP reps. Joe sat on one side, the Pubs on the other, and Joe's staff sat behind the Pubs. And Plante says that it became clear to the Pubs pretty quickly that Joe was receiving nods, hand signals and mouthed words from Joe's staff.

Please, the masks do nothing. Doctors and nurses, before this, didn't wear masks their entire shift. They work them mainly in surgery. They also pitched them at the end of the procedure. They wore high quality masks in highly contagious situations along with a bunch of other gear.
Who knew that November kicked off respiratory bug season except everyone who can add 2+2. Plus, that's cases and testing has proven to be questionable.

And what's interesting is that this has actually had an impact on viral transmission. Stores washing down shopping carts, using hand sanitizer and gloves etc has actually lowered the number of flu cases for the last year. Many people who get the crud every year once or twice didn't see that over the last 12 months.
And these are simple, obvious, easy solutions that should have been done long ago.
Its not the masks or standing an arbitrary distance apart that has made any difference at all. Its just simple, common sense stuff like wash your damned hands which we should have been doing all along.
But masks have totemic power: they are a visual, easily controlled symbol of submission and behavior and that explains the insane insistence upon them. That, and fetishizing Chinese behavior among the elite.

If you equip a full face respirator with a HEPA filter (2, actually), then you would actually have some protection from Viral aerosol particles.
My 3M full face mask (provided by my employer) is about $130. Hepa filters, which you would need to change every 8 hours of use, are about $30 a pair (through our distributor).

Infection data from every state shows conclusively that masks do nothing to impact the spread. Nothing - nada - zilch. They don't protect you, they don't protect others. No standard cloth or surgical mask manufacturer claims their masks do this - in fact many plainly state they don't. OSHA does not consider them PPE but uses words like environmental mitigation devices, which protects the manufacturers from being sued for failing to work as PPE.
Now, docs in surgery use masks to try and keep the surgical theater sterile. They do not use them to prevent virus contamination. A doc that sick would not be in the operating theater. A patient with a seriously dangerous airborne viral infection would be operated on by docs in bio suits.

I have an Air Force issue MCU-2P Gas Mask that I kept after Hurricane Andrew in 1992. i also have several brand new filters in the cans but I'm sure their expiration dates have long since passed. We were always briefed that in a biological environment the masks would be pretty much useless as the filters would not stop bio agents.

I live in Seattle. At one point we were ground zero for COVID in America. We were the worst city in the country. Now we are the best large city. We also, again, coincidentally(?) have a high mask implementation.

Our State was one of the good ones. Our neighbor Idaho wasn't. When their hospitals got full, they started sending their dying to our hospitals. We never had to send out dying to their hospitals. We kept our cases low enough that we never overwhelmed our health system. That was always the point of masking and social distancing. Idiots are going to idiot, but you have to keep the critical cases below your ability to treat or you end up like Italy. That's when deaths spike.

That is not a fair summation of First Amendment law at the time of McCarthy and did not become settled for the present with immediacy of threat requirement until roughly 1970 with the Brandenburg decision.
For a lot of the 1940's and 1950's, for example see the Smith Act passed on the eve of WWII, quite a few actions including firings etc of government employees was allowed. See Whitney v. California, Gitlow v. NY, and Schenk v. US.

I'd agree with you that she should never have been hired. She has no instruction in any of the tools of policy assessment nor could she write long-form discussions of normative questions. She earned a law degree she never used and has worked in word-merchant occupations ever since. She's David Frum in a skirt, bar that Frum is a satisfactory autodidact. After the summer of 2016, she was lousy publicity for any starboard cause, so there wasn't any excuse to continue to employ her.

The replies are an amazement. There is hardly any popular 'NeverTrump' strand of thought. It's a phenomenon among people on the payroll, be they politicians, political staff, lobbyists, or Acela corridor opinion journalists. Trump's approval ratings among Republicans in his last year were equal to Nixon's in 1972, Reagan's in 1984, and GW Bush's in 2004 - and well in excess of those of Ford in 1976 and Bush I in 1992. And not everyone in the dissatisfied 6% are inveterately hostile to the President a la David French. It appears about 3/4 of Ed Whelan's Twitter followers are. You never meet such people in meatspace.
