An illegal government really should be smart enough to treat its occupational forces better.

Soldiers from the Michigan National Guard who are protecting the US Capitol in DC have been fed undercooked, and underwhelming meals.
One Staff Sgt. tells me that metal fragments were found in meals on Sunday.

We got pretty decent chow catered to us at different times. Not necessarily "gourmet", but good decent food. Even Pizza, in France, with stinky cheese. Really.

Austria wouldn't let us fly through on the way to the Balkans, so we had to take the long way there. Also across the Med. I recall looking down on Monaco and all the huge yachts and the rest of it, thinking I just weren't doin' it right.

At Beaumont, TX we once got catered a meal on the flight line or docks I guess it was by Monclas, something like that. Chicken fried steak and mashed taters. That stuff was GOOD, I'd like another helping of that please.

In Communist Romania, the troops (often drawn from the orphanages) received food and privileges average people did not and that made them fanatically loyal to the regime. Yeah, but this isn't some post in the Great Plains or a FOB in Dirkadirkastan. This is a posting in Washington-frickin'-D-C!! Any, and I do mean, any, food catering service ought to be grateful for a long term contract, and public-minded enough to do it right the first time. I saw the pics on Gateway Pundit last night; cooked at one-forty-nine degrees, forsooth! If the local Popeyes or KFC served undercooked chicken at that cooking temp to customers they'd get written up, and threatened with a closing unless they did it right. Probably go broke anyways once word got around, anyway.

Exactly.
I had a cook who would use the same food the troops got, and then do a special meal with it for the Commander and staff. The colonel was a bit put out by it, until we explained it was the same as the troops got, and the cook, an E-7 chef had won the Connelly Award several times (This is a BIG deal in Army cooking circles. Many winners go on to compete in international cooking contests.)

Someone in the bowels of the government put out an RFP for food for the occupying army. They awarded it to someones brother in law who hit all the right criteria (the criteria would have been written specifically so that the brother in law won the bid.) That brother in law, who does not have a catering company or any cooking experience, turned around and subcontracted it to someone else's brother in law. That person, who didn't have any catering operation, turned around and sub contracted it out to the lowest bidder, who is making like $4 / meal, including delivery, and also doesn't have any catering experience, but was able to put a bullshit operation together that did a half assed job of cooking way more food then they were capable of handling in whatever horseshit kitchen and unqualified cook situation they could figure out.

Thus how a $15 / meal (or whatever) deal turns up with undercooked and dangerous shitty food.

Really, the story of government in many ways.
