Northeaster Virginia School District Now Bans Dr. Seuss for Having... "Racial Overtones"

[F]ollowing pressure from activists, Loudon County Public Schools is reportedly dropping the annual Dr. Seuss celebration. "Realizing that many schools continue to celebrate 'Read Across America Day' in partial recognition of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, it is important for us to be cognizant of research that may challenge our practice in this regard," Loudoun County Schools said in an announcement reported by the Daily Wire. "As we become more culturally responsive and racially conscious, all building leaders should know that in recent years there has been research revealing radical undertones in the books written and the illustrations drawn by Dr. Seuss," the school district continued. Learning for Justice, a liberal education advocacy group, was reportedly behind the pressure campaign against the celebrated children's author. The organization pegs itself as a group that seeks "to uphold the mission" of the left-wing Southern Poverty Law Center, according to their website. Learning for Justice cited a study by St. Catherine University that claimed Dr. Seuss's books are covered with "orientalism, anti-Blackness and White supremacy" in a magazine article they released. The group also claimed that the characters who were not White in the books were "subservient" to White characters.Dying-brain stuttering puppet Joe Biden immediately removed Dr. Seuss from the books recommended for Read Across America day. I'm gonna make a wild guess and say that this whole stupid started with a college student who needed a thesis for their paper and saw a Dr Suess book on the shelf. Almost every stupid insane crap you see comes from that.
My mom and dad and all four us boys got an IQ test when I was a little kid. The guy doing the test was doing his doctoral thesis in psychology and had a pet theory: smart kids come from one dumb parent and one smart parent. How he worked this out is anybody's guess.
So he tested us all and found out... both parents were really smart (according to the IQ test, which is another debate) and his theory was hogwash.

That's actually a little complicated from what I read. The coroner refused to watch the tape before he did the autopsy. From the autopsy itself, he concluded that it was not compression.
And then he watched the tape, and pronounced it murder. I can't tell you whether that's a good thing or a bad thing. But I think it's not a good thing for jurisprudence going forward.

I served on a committee awarding postgraduate scholarships. Practically every applicant in the humanities had written a dissertation on Shakespeare. One of them did a lexicographical analysis of the frequency with which "Gadzooks" or something appeared in the various plays to ascertain whether Shakespeare had written all of them. We have the first black woman elected a county Chair At Large of our board of supervisors, and she is an all-in Democrat of the Stacy Abrams Strong Black Woman group.
One of the main drivers of "equity" in Loudoun is a racist black female pastor, head of local NAACP, who last year lost her son in a drowning in the Potomac (underage drinking and previous records of the kids swimming led to delayed calls for aid when he went under, and the fact that the river belongs to Maryland led to calls being routed there when they were made).
She is currently involved in legal action against all bodies possible on the grounds that her son was ignored by the emergency system because of racism.
She has so far bullied both private entities and now the local government into deeding land to "her foundation" that contain former slave graveyards. they are "the ancestors". not her ancestors, but THE ancestors.
The New Black Panthers are in the vanguard as shock troops, and entered a school in protest a few years back over a "racist" PE class.
Our proximity to DC makes us a playground for all kinds of idiocy.

The reason "Dr. Seuss" got into writing childrens books was precise to COMBAT racial stereotypes.
He had been a political cartoonist during WWII, where portraying Germans as rats and weasels and Japanese with massive teeth and lines for eyes was common accepted standards. But then he took a trip abroad and actually *met* post-war Germans and Japanese and realized that the stereotypes were horrid and unehlpful.
So he turned to children in the hopes of teaching future generations that stereotypes and assumptions and closed-mindedness were bad, and that listening to others and seeing one another as individuals is good.
The Left doesn't even pay attention to who they eat anymore.

As I pointed out last April, COVID let them institute all the famous brainwashing techniques on a large scale. Brainwashing is about making pathways in the brain for "novel information". All the "social change" they have implemented since George Floyd is the novel information.

Post-Rush when I tune into the EIB, I always relax when I hear Rush's voice.
The others are really no better than the local guys hereabouts. Except, for Steyn. He's got his own schtick and I enjoy him, but he's still not as good as Rush.

I might be wrong, but that's kind of my impression.
CRTV canceled his show because he wasn't producing content.
And, really as some one who watched it, it was more variety and PM Magazine than a commentary show. And I watched only a few episodes before giving up on it.
Steyn *has* political views and he's good when that's his focus, but he's much more into music and culture (and cooking on his show), if you read his site.

Last summer I was helping a young guy (early 20s) who was interested in classic horror fiction ... but in audiobook form only. It became obvious why: He literally barely could read; when faced with a new word (in this case, an author's name), he couldn't sound it out by the letters, but tried to guess at the pronunciation by its freaking SHAPE. Many schools, and not all of them public, haven't taught phonics in decades, using the "whole word" method instead ... which is how pictographic languages must be taught. You know. Like Mandarin Chinese. Just saying.

My kids learn both methods at their public school. There is a list of words they should be able to read as soon as they see them (sight words), and they are also taught the letter sounds.
It seems to work pretty OK.

A lot of the seeds of antifa, IMO, were sown in the 70s. It was very common to have lecturers come to town to blame the Brits, the French and the US for Hitler's actions as "it could have been prevented". My roommate who was much more political than I was dragged me off to hear a few and many writers were included among those giving tacit consent to nazis. There's really no surprise that the idea that "it could have been prevented" spawned some of antifa's leadership. They were brought up on a diet of lobbing guilt at everyone.

Even though I disagreed with him regularly, I recognize when somebody deserves the mantle "thinker".
Rush was a thinker and a visionary.
You can't just replace that. Rush is the guy that started Dennis Miller on his slide right. Miller said "You know sometimes I listen to that guy Rush Limbaugh and think 'Ya know, sometimes he gets a few things right" (all paraphrase). That was too much for his friends on the left. And Miller wasn't so stalwart back then and folded in a couple of days and repented of ever having said he agreed with Rush on anything.
But eventually, it did it's work. I think 9/11 was the kicker for Miller.

Thing is - which Rush are you trying to replace? That's a hard nut to crack, and why nobody can just step in. We have to fall in love all over again. You can't just clone your dog and have the same pet.
Rush's shtick changed a lot since he started. And he really did used to be kind of obnoxious and go for shock value. When he was syndicated he toned it down a bit - and I can certainly see the parallels between him and Trump as far as bloated egos.
In the past 15 or so years, Rush really turned into this wise, older statesman. The comedy bits were largely cast aside. The one thing that was consistent was his ability to espouse conservative values instead of only focusing on the hypocracy of the left. And can anybody else be right 99.5% of the time?
