The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

"The problem with allowing new gas stations is we don't really need them and they’re putting existing gas stations out of business." Matt Krogh, U.S. oil and gas campaign director for the environmental group Stand.earth

Quote II

“The Republican Party is united. The only division is between a handful of Washington, D.C., establishment political hacks, and everybody else all over the country,” President Donald Trump

Quote III

You don’t know how the chess pieces are eventually ever going to settle. But I do believe that consolidation among fixed and wireless makes a lot of sense. There’s consolidation in every other developed country in the world already, right? So it just doesn’t make sense that we’re the exception. Altice USA CEO Dexter Goei

Quote IV

“I would rather miss the Olympics than take the vaccine. I am happy. I don’t want to get into it right now, but I have my reasons.” Jamaican Olympic athlete Yohan Blake

Quote V

If you want to know why I’m a Dead-Ender, a Trump Republican to the end, it’s this: No one else will fight like hell for the country I grew up in, the country I believe in, and the country that my forefathers died for. Trump may not be perfect; neither am I. But he damn sure didn’t have to hypnotize me or manipulate me or mislead me to get me on his side. I’ll confess: He had me at “Make America Great Again.” Frank Miele

As a child I couldn't stand Fruit Loops. As an adult of 29 years I detest them more now than then. Fruit Loops on pizza? No. No just no. Hell No!!!!

Fong's Pizza in Des Moines, Iowa, is locally famous for unusual pizza toppings, such as ramen, General Tso's chicken, roast turkey and cranberry sauce (for Thanksgiving, of course), and Mongolian beef.

The pizzeria's latest ingenious creation is Froot Loops Pizza. The Des Moines Register reports:

The new pizza, made with Froot Loops and cheese, is one of the new breakfast pizzas Fong's is rolling out at their Fong's location at 3018 Forest Ave., Des Moines. (As we all know, Iowans have a thing about breakfast pizza.) Alongside cereal pizza, there are steak and eggs, bacon popper and vegetarian breakfast pizzas on the menu.
"Making pizzas that are outside the box has always been a staple of Fong's," owner Gwen Page said. "Now we're trying things out for breakfast pizza

No more Mr. Nice Guy. There's a simple solution to your predicament lying piece of human debris John Brennan.

Former CIA Director John Brennan declared on MSNBC Monday that he is “increasingly embarrassed to be a white male.”

Brennan made the awkward comment during a segment blasting Republicans for supposedly pushing “false and misleading” accounts of the January 6 Capitol Hill riot at CPAC over the weekend.

The panel was discussing reports that a number of antifa and Black Lives Matter agitators had infiltrated the protest and instigated some of the violence.

Far-Right Platform Gab Has Been Hacked—Including Private Data.
The transparency group DDoSecrets says it will make the 70 GB of passwords, private posts, and more available to researchers, journalists, and social scientists.

The incident comes weeks after far-right platform Parler was hacked just prior to being knocked offline.

WHEN TWITTER BANNED Donald Trump and a slew of other far-right users in January, many of them became digital refugees, migrating to sites like Parler and Gab to find a home that wouldn't moderate their hate speech and disinformation. Days later, Parler was hacked, and then it was dropped by Amazon web hosting, knocking the site offline. Now Gab, which inherited some of Parler's displaced users, has been badly hacked too. An enormous trove of its contents has been stolen—including what appears to be passwords and private communications.

On Sunday night the WikiLeaks-style group Distributed Denial of Secrets is revealing what it calls GabLeaks, a collection of more than 70 gigabytes of Gab data representing more than 40 million posts. DDoSecrets says a hacktivist who self-identifies as "JaXpArO and My Little Anonymous Revival Project" siphoned that data out of Gab's backend databases in an effort to expose the platform's largely right-wing users. Those Gab patrons, whose numbers have swelled after Parler went offline, include large numbers of Qanon conspiracy theorists, white nationalists, and promoters of former president Donald Trump's election-stealing conspiracies that resulted in the January 6 riot on Capitol Hill.

It continues to be a bad week for Dictator Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York.

A Rochester, N.Y., restaurant owner appeared Monday on “Fox & Friends” to talk about a big win over the weekend against Gov. Andrew Cuomo, after having an 11 p.m. pandemic-related curfew removed for more than 90 restaurants and bars.

Donald Swartz, owner of Veneto Wood Fired Pizza and Pasta, has been locked in a legal tussle with the state as part of a group of bar and restaurant owners, and after a preliminary injunction late Saturday by state Supreme Court Justice Timothy Walker, the establishments were allowed to stay open until their normal 4 a.m. closing time.

Citing “science and data,” Cuomo announced in mid-February that in addition to limited capacity for indoor dining in New York City, an existing curfew for bars and restaurant closing times would be adjusted statewide from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m.

I'm surprised it wasn't, "Hey lady, did you order a pepperoni pizza? Well, here's the pizza, and here's the pepperoni!"

As New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo faces mounting sexual misconduct allegations from two female aides, a video has reemerged on social media showing the Democratic governor questionably urged a female reporter to eat an entire sausage sandwich in front of him.

The video shows the Democratic governor at the 2016 New York State Fair, challenging NewsChannel 9’s Beth Cefalu to eat an entire Gianelli sausage sandwich.

"I want to see you eat the whole sausage," Cuomo can be heard telling Cefalu, as his daughter Michaela sits quietly next to him. A now-former aide to Cuomo could be seen handing Cefalu a sandwich.

So believe all women?

The ONT Musical Interlude

On this day: 1 Mar 1995
During a gig at the Patinoire Auditorium in Lausanne, Switzerland, R.E.M. drummer Bill Berry collapsed on stage from a ruptured brain aneurysm. He recovered and later re-joined the band. via thisdayinmusic.com

Born on this day: 1 Mar 1904
American big-band musician, arranger, composer, and bandleader Glenn Miller. He was the best-selling recording artist from 1939 to 1943, leading one of the best-known big bands. In just four years Glenn Miller scored 23 No.1 hits. Miller's recordings include 'In the Mood', 'Moonlight Serenade', 'Pennsylvania 6-5000', and 'Chattanooga Choo Choo'. On December 15, 1944, while traveling to entertain US troops in France during World War II, Miller's aircraft disappeared in bad weather over the English Channel. via thisdayinmusic.com

Sometimes you need a Get A Way Driver. There is a great video. Genius Award Winner. (H/T Wyatt Earp)

This is an incredible video of the most embarrassing package theft in history, where not only did the thief not get the package, he also got stuck in a snow bank during the getaway before being arrested by police. It's also the most Canadian video ever, where the thief is wearing a mask to be socially responsible and the victim even offers to get a shovel to help clear the snow. The only way it could be more Canadian is if the thief was wearing a hockey jersey and the guy filming was sipping some Tim Hortons coffee.

Keep going for the full video. I feel like the embarrassment of the situation might actually be worse than jail time for the guy.

Neighbors kick in to help single mom with 3 kids. Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

Jane Cunningham and her three children live in Sudbury, Massachusetts. But her home was in rough shape.

The entire roof was shot. There was mold everywhere and a big problem with the family room.

"We basically had to board that off and couldn't use it because a piece of the ceiling had fallen down and in with that came a giant squirrels' nest, nuts and all,” she told WBZ-TV.

38 Trump: "The Republican Party is united..."

I'd like to believe that. I don't. Well, not in the sense Trump states.

Notice that the same power center maintains its control. So it is indeed united. But Trumps asserts/implies that the party is united against a small cadre of DC GOP politicos. That simply cannot be true. If there was so much support that was Republican but that wasn't DC-centric, then that power center would be destroyed and the "grassroots" would turn over the rot.

Hasn't happened in my lifetime yet. The Republican Party is a fetid corpse. It's an Achilles Heel that Trump still clings to the old notions of Republicanism in the Republican Party. It died a long time ago. Now, maybe he thinks it better to try and wear it rather than create a new party out of whole cloth. Certainly a reasonable position, but not I path I trust anymore.

The Dogatorium got set up in The Beast today. Much to my surprise, all three crates - two for girls, one a male crate - were put in place without too much drama.

We brought Delilah up to test getting in and getting out of them. She really liked her new home away from home. Her grandmother Lacey loved traveling in an RV as well.

If new gas stations are putting the old ones out of business, it is because they are offering better service or value. I guess they don't want to admit that they really just want to restrict the availability of fuel.

I've never quite been able to explain it. The closest I've come is "well, if you can't have the real deal,..." also "they look great, even if the tactile feel is not there, so..."

So many women are having work done that when you encounter well formed knockers the question is automatic whether it's the case or not. I'm sure in front of the correct (left-leaning) judge, their appeal to "ethics" will be all that's needed for them to walk. Ethical extortion will then be a part of the law.

You also control the whole network by controlling the hubs, which lesson the Big Tech oligarchs know well, which is why they push everything to be this cloud-based hub model.

I'm sure there is a reason that is beyond my peanut-size-brain comprehension, but I am stumped as to why we are not allowed to "refuse service" because of religious beliefs, and must "bake the cake!" But yet Amazon can deny services to Parlor. Either private businesses have the right to refuse service, or they don't.

It's cute - she'll be in her cat tree, I'll stretch out on the couch and call out "meow", then she jumps down from the tree and runs over to snuggle up against me while we nap. Small example of this cloud-based server/hub model they push. I got a new TV, a cheapish 50" Vizio. It would be easy as hell to put a media player in them to play local files on your local network. They used to do that, an older Vizio TV had this "media app" that would do that off any DLNA capable server.

Now, you can't do that very well. The closest thing is this Plex server. You have to install that on your local machine, and sign up with their system.

Playing around with it, I discovered where you can manually add local server IPs and do it without the TV having to phone the Plex server network. But you still have to sign up.

So fuck all that, and it infuriates me. But no problem, as I have a couple of older media player boxes that are local network capable. They run Samba clients and can access any Windows shares. There is no streaming per say, they just read the files and play them all on the box.

Big Tech wants to control everything and make it impossible for you to do things independently.

308 Oh, and I saw earlier that Bertram Cabot posted some lyrics from the Blue Oyster Cult song "The Red and the Black" (my favorite BOC song). He got them a bit wrong:

Canadian Mounted, baby
Police force that works
Red and black
It's their color scheme
Get their man, in the end

Anyways, the song's genesis was a song written by Albert Bouchard, BOC's original drummer, about a dream he had fleeing to Canada to avoid the draft during the Vietnam Undeclared War and being hunted by the Mounties. Turns out he didn't have to go to Canada (and growing up in Watertown, NY, didn't have far to go) because he showed up for his induction physical after dropping acid.... I can somewhat relate as I showed up for my college radio shift one 3 a.m. on my first (and penultimate) acid trip (which was also my first shroom trip). We both succeeded in our endeavors! (He to get out and me to remember to segue to the next song when the current one was done.)

I use my own local VPN to join local networks together. When Miley first moved down here, I set one up router to router so I could access all my machines from her place and vice versa.

And now with the new house, I'm setting up all my stuff down here, and have been rejiggering the VPN. I still need to access my mother's computers remotely, and I was changing things around.

The two routers are Linksys WRT 3200acm and the WRT 32x, and I run the OpenWRT firmware, which allows you to basically turn them into full fledged real routers and do all sorts of fancy shit far beyong the stock firmware of most of these consumer routers. Those two Linksys have the CPU and memory do it, and I do extroots on both of them to expand the local storage using USB flash sticks. You can install a ton of software.

And I used OpenVPN to set up the tunnels between them. It's easiest to set it all up using the router OS and tools, which is basically a Linux distro. But while the CPUs are beefy, they are not nearly enough to do some real secure crypto key generation.

VLC player will cast to any chromecast capable device, and I have that. I did install the Plex Server just to play, but there's no way I'm going to give them the info about my system, which they want you do. What videos you're watching and all that for your "library".

But what I use is an older Netgear NeoTV 550 media player. It can do Windows shares as well as NFS. Again, no actual streaming, it just reads the media files over the network via SMB or NFS (I think it can do Apple networking, but I've never used that).

I think you can still buy those. Used of course. But nobody makes boxes like that much anymore. And it's again because they all want it cloud based where they can control everything.

However, my latest screamer machine has more than enough CPU horsepower to do some serious high strength key generation crap, and I'm boning up on how to do it using one of my Linux VMs running on it.

Just for fun and learning, I'm going to set up high bit length keys there to transfer to the routers for the VPN.

It takes the router hardware about 30 minutes to generate a 2048 bit key (unless it gets lucky, which it did one time and did it in about 5 minutes). It would take days to generate a 4096 bit key, IIRC. My screamer can do that much faster.

402 It has been a tiring day. Took the Suburban in for an alignment check this morning. The mechanic assigned to it called me into the shop. "I can do an alignment, but it won't do you any good. Ball joints are worn out." Which he proceeded to show me. He was right. "I love these old 'Burbs. Look at what I drive." (points to similar Suburban in parking lot)

"What do I owe you?" "Nothing, it's just an alignment check. No charge for that." Me: "Well, I will put in new ball joints. Already have the uppers; came with the truck. When I am done, I will give you the alignment job."

So I went to O'Reillys. Got two lower ball joints, plus the loaner pickel fork and ball joint press. Had to go back to get a 36 mm axle nut socket, and a long extension. Had to go back a second time to get grease fittings, which were missing from the new lower ball joint packages.

Right side is done. Left side is mostly done. Just have to torque up the axle nut, and the two ball joint stud nuts, and hang the rotor and caliper back on (brake pads are OK). Hard part is done. Just got too tired to finish it this evening.

My mother suffers from hypothyroidism so I'm familiar with it, but I hadn't thought about it so it's something to talk to the doc about Friday. I'm just afraid it's either PSP (progressive supranuclear palsy) which my father had or Parkinson's (which PSP is often confused with initially). I do have some symptoms of hypo-Th, such as intolerance of cold and fatigue, but NOT weight gain (down nearly 30lbs since last Spring, but it's a healthy loss because I've been working out) and no constipation. BUT, now that i think about it, I get very little salt in my diet now since I re-jiggered it a month or so ago, so it might be iodine deficiency. Oy vey.

For the last few years I've been taking a double dose of spirulina pills (which have iron naturally) but I've recently cut back to the normal dose. Also, THC is very fat soluble (as are vitamins A, D, E, K and a bunch of minerals), and with my fat loss, my body may be re-adjusting itself (particularly since I'm abstaining from marijuana until I test negative for it, which will probably be a couple of months). Back in my automotive sales era, I'd sold all of the Big Three, and have attended the annual presentations. Most interesting of which, was Ford's rolling show of the Big Three in full cutaway engineering mode. The amount of hidden, extra steel in an F-150 compared to the others, was astonishing. And they put it in where it was needed, and no one would ever SEE it, but it made critical areas much stronger. Weakest was GM. Just so many corners cut by bean-counters and the push to save weight.

Irongrampa has this right. Amazingly though, Ford had the exact same problem on their Crown Vic/Mercury Marquis, *until* the '03 and later models, which had front suspensions that were near-clones of pre MacPherson Strut Mercedes Benz designs. And that cured Ford's weak pre '03 front end design.

505 I like broccoli - even as a kid (though it was in 2nd place to candy corn) and I get it frozen so I nuke it for a bit to heat it up. I also have started eating bok choy (fresh, cooked on the stove) and I have been eating cabbage raw for several years now in salads. I don't think that's the problem, but I'll investigate. And in case there's any confusion, I do have a Y chromosome to go with my single X.

What I'm really curious about is these yellow, shiny/glittery specks coming out of my palms. I've managed to take some pics. At first I thought they might be calcium oxalate crystals (what forms kidney stones) so I cut out spinach, almonds, and other high-oxalate foods, but I've never had any kidney/urinary problems. I have, in the past year or so, gotten some mild gout attacks in my feet, but cutting out processed foods and cooking high-quality meat has taken care of that. At least I still have a gorgeous head of hair with long, silvery streaks to compliment the dark brown (albeit no one to share it with).

Posted by: SFGoth at March 02, 2021 12:06 AM (KAi1n)

Sounds like a skin thing. Uric acid crystals (gout) are shaped like little daggers, which is why they hurt. I have it, and it's very manageable with allopurinol. One thing I did not realize is that one of the causal factors for gout is high fructose corn syrup, which is in a lot of things and I've cut that out almost completely.

601 577 I've just read some National Guardsmen from Michigan on duty in the Capital have been sickened and hospitalised, having been repeatedly served undercooked chicken and meals with metal shavings...
------
Saw the post on that over at Gateway Pundit. NG had contracted for local meals service, and I guess some bastards & bitches decided they were gonna strike back at The Man! Yeah I know, the NG was supposed to be protecting The Man and the D.C. people from us terrible Trumpistas, but, fight the power, yo! Now they are getting MREs for 11 more days. Tell me how the troops are gonna stand up for those clowns....

Even Kurt Schlicter wrote a column last month saying a new party would be a disaster. Kinda pissed me off at the time, too. But without Trump's backing?

Flameout worse than the Coffee Party (THE answer to the Tea Party), which managed to draw 4 people for its kickoff meeting.

604 588 State governors could call their guardsmen home anytime. FL, NH, and TX Guardsmen are at home.

What's wrong with those Red State governors allowing their Guardsmen and their state such humiliation?
-----
It was the Michigan NG that got the treatment. Michigan isn't truly a red state, they are a purple state with a Democrat fascist bitch as governor, so the soldiers won't get recalled before their contracted time is up.

605 ..Frank Miele has it right. But the Republican Party is not the answer. Posted by: Sharkman at March 02, 2021 02:04 AM (0bGEp)

The Trumpian directive to dominate the Republican Party is the right SOLUTION, but lacks the requisite DIRECTIONS. This ain't gonna happen by voting out RINOs and voting in Trumpian House n' Senate fakers. You want change, you're going to have to take over ALL of the preceinct chairs, with maximum aggression. The Convention Delegates are largely drawn from that herd.

It is the Convention Delgates that wield the power that can purge the RINOs. There IS a WAY. But it is an ugly and difficult slog to GET there.

615 'Member when Kameltoe had her face work done, just prior to or shortly after her VP slot was announced? Her face looked like it was attacked with a ping pong paddle, all over her face. Swollen and red.

It probably wasn't a facelift per se, but a chemical peel. This strips off the top skin layer, removing a lot of blemishes and minor wrinkles.

Strangely, those pics of her face that day have been mostly purged.

668 I have been thinking about the points Trump made about staying inside the GOP. My gut reaction is that it is a mistake. I realize the logical points for, but it seems like there are a few points against that may outweigh them.

-one, you kind of need a psychological and symbolic break considering the depth of the betrayal the GOP has show to those who vote for it.

-two, it is not just the elected politicians who are feckless weasels- look at Michael Steel. If you can make a promise to take everything down to the ground and start over, maybe, but also see point one.

-three, we are going to have to make sure either that every sack of shit gets primaried or out, so it is going to work the same as starting a new party. If you do not do that, then asshats like Mitch end up surviving when they are structurally the problem you are trying to solve.

I think the strategy is to fundraise through the PDTS PACs, thereby bleeding the GOP to weaken it, and to primary the the most vulnerable hacks first. When the base is crippled, then he can negotiate from the position of strength and have the remainder of the GOPe forced from the party. Of course by that time, most of them will have lined their nests and 'retirement' won't be an issue for them.

I have tried a bunch of different ones, from the cheap supermarket jars to the fancy ones, and there doesn't seem to be a correlation. I think it is just personal preference.

Right now I use Costco olives because they have a slight smoky flavor that I find interesting. I have also used Goya olives, and those are fairly good.

I checked the listing and found it was still inaccurate so I told them that as long as the listing remained uncorrected my review would stand.

Their e-mails condemn my review as "destructive". Geez, Louise...talk about hyperbole!

This is typical. I noted that a Chinese mail order company was offering very attractive, but very familiar, wool sweaters and a very low price. I thought about where I had seen them and realized it was on Interweave Knitting and they had lifted the magazines pictures of the finished patterns even using the models. Small example of this cloud-based server/hub model they push. [SNIP] The closest thing is this Plex server. You have to install that on your local machine, and sign up with their system. Playing around with it, I discovered where you can manually add local server IPs and do it without the TV having to phone the Plex server network. But you still have to sign up. Plex is a dog's breakfast. Servio too.

Get Mezzmo. Best in class. Library served up via http on the LAN to any browser, any OS. Plus an Android app running on the TV, if you want. Actually serves up ripped DVD with no third device required. Runs on WIN10 and WINSRV 2008+.

Phenomenal.

Not yet. If they keep it up I will. This morning's e-mail was pretty aggressive..."We are just a small shop, unable to withstand the destruction caused by Neutral feedback."

Neutral feedback is destructive? WTF? Does everyone get straight A's all the time?

797 And Volvo has announced that they will stop making ANY automobiles with internal combustion engines by 2030.

And this includes hybrids.

My expectation is that with their rather quiet advances in total autonomous vehicle capabilities, coupled with a total electric drive, the government will be able to both completely monitor AND remotely take control of your 2030+ Volvo at any point that they desire.
