Re-Education Camp Cafe: Evil Kitty Edition

Otters are mesmerized by a butterfly.

I think I linked a different version of this a couple of weeks ago: introducing two abandoned baby stoats to each other.

Really nice video of dozens of beautiful exotic birds just visiting an Australian woman's balcony. These birds all seem completely unafraid of her.

The woman calls all this "magical." I don't want to oversell it, but yeah, it's magical.

A baby pig is ostracized and bullied by the adult pigs, so he's adopted by geese.

75 I just watched that stoat thing this morning - I guess I'm getting recommends because of Ace vids. There's a lot of the wild parrot videos on YT. Real interesting how the parrots (especially) are so interested in hanging around hoomans. Although it seems the really smart type birds do that. There's a lady on YT who lives in AK, and she's got bald eagles that come and hang out on her balcony all the time.

Huh, I just looked for her channel, and it seems YT pulled it and dozens of videos. There must have been an American flag somewhere. Well, that sucks!

https://youtu.be/AI2dtKxxuYc

Here's one of her videos, and people are asking WTF happened to her channel. That's a shame, she had tons of videos of eagles on her balcony, and other wildlife. And the cat, which apparently started getting used to all of this.

It's also called dolphin. It's a wicked cool fish, and changes colors - extremely reflective. Makes me want to go back to Hawaii. Go down to the docks in Lahaina on Maui around 10am ish - and a friend with a fishing charter service (or any other) are usually coming in around then. You can buy a zip-lock gallon baggy stuffed full of Mahi Mahi for $20 (less than that, but WTF just give the guy a $20). He guts and fillets the fish right in front of you.

Saves the head and other parts for the old folks, who are also down there. Very cool. A hunk of Mahi like that will keep you eating for days. There's almost nothing you can do to fuck it up as far as cooking. Their favorite recipe is just a bunch of italian dressing, marinade for an hour or two and throw on the BBQ. Can't really argue with that.

Did you ever watch AK State Troopers? Wasilla is the meth capitol of Alaska, bar none. I'd say 2/3's of those stories were tweakers on parade.

So, we get some of that in Anchorage, but our major issue here is Natives and alcohol. The villages identify a troublemaker, send him to Anchorage to go to court, and then won't let him back into the village. So, we get the best of the best--the wife and girlfriend beaters, the thieves, the falling-down-drunks. And then the city feeds 'em, gives 'em shelter, calls them "homeless" when they are really just addicts and wouldn't live in a "home" if they were given one.

Also, Natives get free healthcare, so they are nice and healthy drunks and criminals. Living in parks and shitting in the neighborhoods and woods.

Small towns don't fix everything.

Small towns don't fix everything.

I've begun using "hobo" and "bum" because they are more factually accurate than "homeless". Most people who are on the streets seem to have a family and potential home somewhere; they just don't care for the lifestyle.

Now we would be pilloried for cultural appropriation for trying to understand other cultures. Also, nobody ever suggested that the other cultures were equal to or better than our own.

Was just thinking, as a kid did not appreciate it, but when we would go to Shelter Island down in the harbor, at the west end is the "Friendship Bell", a gift from Yokohama (sister city) - so this would be about 20 years after the surrender. Across the bay at North Island, the USS Bunker Hill was tied up (it was used by USN electronics lab for testing and development). A reminder of previous not-so-friendly period - the ship took 2 kamikazes at Okinawa and was one of the more heroic damage control stories of the war.

277 Infidel - the alligator farm near Knott's Berry Farm was a highlight for stupid little kids like us. I think the Horde discussed that topic one night.

A guy had a cockatoo and 3 macaws outside a public library a few weeks back, he was just giving them air. Beautiful macaws, amazing color (all "rescue" birds). The cockatoo literally wouldn't go back to her perch or her owner, she clung to my wife, hoping for more of the petting and attention we'd given her. Had no ideas birds could be like that. Bird was like a needy old cat. Cool how her crest plumed up, sort of like purring.

Every Captain gets his/her own gig, complete with some Bosun Mates for crew (and secondary rating of Sideboys), and a snipe for a coxswain, right? And you need to take them out for regular rows, lest they slack and fall out of shape.

Since you're apparently surprised by this, perhaps a sharply-worded letter to BuShips and BuPers to straighten out what is obviously a bureaucratic snafu, and receive your due as a four striper.

Nobody will edit Hillary's work. They will publish it sight unseen, for two reasons. One: nobody will actually read it, ever. Some (not many) Karens will buy it for the shelf so that other Karens know she is high-ranking Karen in good standing, but never open it. The bulk of sales will be phony purchases by political cronies of Hillary Clinton, and they will moulder in dockside storage until they're one day abandoned in the sea. Two: most book publishers have a will to live.

I'd have a really hard time recommending a parrot to someone. I'd say start with a budgie or cockatiel (especially) and see how that goes. Birds are messy beyond belief. They hold their perch, flap to take off velocity, and everything that used to be in the cage is now on the floors or walls. Loud? Not budgies or cockatiels, but everything on up. Wow. I had a conure, and when I'd come home after a rough day, he was very excited to see me. He could hear my car a block away, and I could hear him a block away. (there are videos I'm sure). Birds do not do well without constant attention or some activity to keep them occupied.

They also can get neurotic for no reason. Start feather plucking. Go mad. For the right people they're great, and I enjoyed one of my birds. I had friends that had serious macaws, African grays, greens, ringnecks... It's a life altering thing, unlike a dog or a cat. I recommend enjoying a friend's birds.

Yes, once bonded you don't need to do horrible things like trim their flight feathers. They're going nowhere. I'd consider one if I could have more of an outdoor setup, let them chew on a tree instead of the furniture and walls, fly around, scare the neighbors...

My buddy used to ride his motorcycle and had his gray that sat on the handlebars and absolutely LOVED it. Would lean way forward... Could have flown away at any time. But having a towel on your shoulder all the time is something not a lot of people can acclimate to.

The relocation/restrictions on some Italian- or German-linked citizens or dual-nationals in the US and Canada is a nearly unknown part of history. It is as unknown as the Japanese-American* relocation is distorted and mythologized, to a great extent.

* have never seen a respectable discussion of the question whether obligations under Geneva required the US to intern enemy aliens, which was generally the norm - even Japan did this in conquered territories, but for their own reasons - but I don't see how the treaty could be read otherwise, and in fact such was the normal practice in most countries. Whether dual-nationals would be caught up in this category is another question - but it covers up to 40% of those affected in CONUS.

Banning tends to be by IP address, which is why some trolls can still use the same name despite being banned (Retardo for example) as they simple switch to a new IP. Bl@zer is the only one I know of who got the full "You shall not return" in nic banning that I know of.

The smartest of them all. Some pretty amazing videos of these birds, especially problem solving that's on par with toddlers using logic and reason. But they will imitate all the things. I wasn't around my buddy's by the time smart phones etc. were a thing, but I have no doubt it would repeat every notification and ringtone perfectly. It definitely had the microwave and answering machine tones to perfection.

They love doing that shit just to get a rise out of you, which is the worst part. Nothing makes a bird happier than to see you keep going into the kitchen, answering the door or pulling your phone out of your pocket to see WTF.

Oddly enough, a group of post-1939 German Jewish male refugees were interned and employed as lumberjacks because they were officially enemy aliens. The p.c. tried to make it an issue several years ago but one of the former internees I saw interviewed about it blew it off as if they had been allowed into the army, they'd have been living in barracks too, and there was a war on.

I hear you. I did buy some AMC stock during the Robinhood/Reddit kerfuffle because the thinking was if you bought and held it would hurt the evildoers, who were trying to short the market and make money. So theoretically it didn't matter if you made any money, you were fighting back.

Today AMC finally went up, after being way down.

Supposedly the reddit people are doing the same to silver--buying and holding so the hedge fund people can't leverage each other out.

Yeah. I never trusted televangelists either, even as a kid. I understand when people choose to place all their faith in politicians - I just don't understand why. It's like watching the same old people walk into the same old trap, over and over again. Even when you see it, and can predict it - at least I still can't wrap my head around why they do it.
But that's the thing - you don't have to understand the why in people. Not if you can really get the when down to a science.

Nothing but revamped GOPe fundraiser emails will be sent out. The base is, again, unhappy and feeling used.

Thus ends Trump's political influence and career.

Runs on my cutting edge hardware, too, which is more impressive. I9, lots of DDR4, fast Nvidia graphics, programmable mouse and keyboard. I love it. New 20.1 release is a long-term-support release until 2025.

436 At CPAC Trump will make the case for the GOP under "different" leadership. Accusations will be made. Much huffing and puffing will ensue. Loud voices will demand "change."

There will be much clapping and shouting in approval. Same voices that directed Trump's presidency will enter the arena.

461 Thus ends Trump's political influence and career.

He's not the guy. He's just - not. He's the first guy that tried - even more so than Reagan. And that matters - he's on my Mt. Rushmore just for that. But he's not the guy.

If he still thinks he can walk into something like CPAC, and "make the sale" ? Then he doesn't understand what's going on any better than Romney did back in the day. The best thing Trump can do at this point is step back. Give his two boys room to move. His ego is not going to let him, though.

Mostly by his "own team." Again.

Dude should reel it in and call it a day. The leftists will be after him, his family and his businesses for the next 2-3 decades. Time to consolidate losses.

But if he can land a few punches before leaving... go for it. It probably won't matter in the long run, but go down fighting.

I don't do video editing - yet - but I hear good reviews of KDEnlive. After dealing with a Win10 PC drive recovery (image reinstall) this weekend, then dealing with a Linux foible, I am convinced that most of Windows problems stem from the desire to control the product by any means necessary, including poorly documented and disseminated info about the OS.

535 If I were his age over the last four years, I'd have a sock drawer full of neatly inscribed bullets by now.
I think - from what I've seen - you just described a pretty good portion of Gen Z.
Here's my Grand Unified Theory of What the Fvck is Going On. Sure, you didn't ask for it, but here it is all the same. The "Greatest Generation" went full Lee Greenwood after swallowing every expansion of government that was offered to them, and they made the Baby Boomers. The Baby Boomers went in one of two ways - they either developed a militant love of all things Dollywood and Branson to please Mom and Dad, or they decided to burn it all down out of spite.

Gen X disappointed all of the Boomers - because Gen X simply did not fvcking care. Gen X wanted to be left alone. The Millennials, however, turned out to be GREAT pupils to the burn it down wing of the Boomers. Gen Z is probably going to get behind a Franco, Pinochet, and Cromwell all in one body - because they'll have to.

537 I have a FedEx package on it's way to me in KY from AZ. It appears to have been in AZ for 3 days... slightly moving from "place of origin" to their hub. Looks like a little bit less than 8 miles... in 3 days.

It's *ahem* ballistic material, not ammo.

Not sure what the deal is... but it supposed to be here by Friday.

Yeah Boomers get an overly large range of years, but for the purposes of sweeping generalizations that's roughly correct.

Nice. My monitor is shit. It'll remain so, FTTB. The majority of video I work with is 1080p, oddly, so I don't need the hi res. I just need a metric fuckton of POWER.

559 No, it's hip-hop for:

In a way - Yes, you are right. That's exactly what I was saying.

Some here revere the Greatest Generation. Understood - I love my Band of Brothers box set as well. But that generation came home, and as far as I can tell, supported putting us on a permanent war footing. And produced a generation that either went in lock step, or went crazy. There seems to be very little in between. FWIW - I'm glad I didn't grow up as one of their kids. The pressure to conform must have been off the charts.

And here we are. Still on that war footing. Looking internally for an enemy. With the crazy part of their cohort pulling all the levers of power.
