EMT 2/20/21

One of the things I do to make money is freelance consulting in VoIP / Unified Communications.

While there is a lot to be said for full time employment with benefits, I would have a terribly hard time giving anyone that much power over my schedule again.

The ability to tell a client "No" to an ask they are demanding of their full time employees is incredibly empowering.

Besides avoiding the stress of feeling forced to save the asses of bosses that don't properly plan projects, I haven't attended a BS social justice kabuki class in years. There's little I like more than reminding people I'm not their employee, then handing them an invoice for my services rendered, which generally ended up saving their asses anyway despite my refusal to blow 10 hours a week in their "mandatory" conference calls.

I do this all tactfully, mind you.

If you are lucky enough to have a skill set that is in demand, it might be worth looking into self employment.

19 I've done self-employment. Yeah, the work hours are nice. The rest of it sucks. No bennies and self-health insuring is expensive. Self-employment tax. Business license and registration fees. If I use my personal computer to do legal research and write briefs, I have to pay business inventory tax on my fucking personal computer that I already paid sales tax on. And then I have to get clients which is nearly impossible since I just handle motions/hearings/briefs/appeals for other lawyers and there's no shortage of lawyers in S.F. At this point, I'm better off in the welfare system I've supported all these years.

Pennsylvania has this great system - as an employer you're required to collect unemployment taxes on all of your employees as well as yourself. At the bottom of the form the employer is required to add their social security number. Why? Because you're never permitted to collect unemployment compensation, that's why.

Pay into the system for decades, still can't receive even one lousy check.

They are really bailing out higher education. Future students will be inspired to take on debt with the expectation that they, too, will have that debt forgiven down the road.

There was talk of removing his Secret Service protection. If I were a suspicious person, I would wonder if with the renewed talks with Iran, and Iran swearing they will get Trump in retaliation for Soulemani, that Biden's team will outsource eliminating the trump problem. It will be a mistake, someone leaked some detail about a Trump and, in a twist of fate, it was intercepted by someone who passed it to the mullahs. Ooops! Just like Hillary leaking like a seive to America's enemies for years.

Good thing I'm not suspicious, though.

Yeah, seem to recall that Trump has had a long-serving bodyguard who continued on during his presidency. I am confident Trump and family have superior security.

I guess my concern is how the MSM and Dems are now openly labeling Trump and his supporters as terrorists, and musing about just bombing them (if they were only in Afghanistan we could!). The mindset is there -- 'how do we eliminate the threat already'? Unsettling.

Keeping lights on, running the refrigerator and microwave oven, radios, goes a long way to taking the sting out of an electricity blackout. This time of year keeping the refrigerator going, keeping food frozen isn't a concern!

I'd expect generators (and car batteries) are practically Unobtanium about now.

193 It is so sad to think that suburban TX residents now need generators.

How is that sad? Its about people getting red pilled and realizing that responsibilities that they once had they gave blindly and foolishly to people who only saw that job as a way to make money.

There has been talk about What Went Wrong. The short answer is: not enough energy capacity. Wind, solar and nat gas don't answer "capacity" they only answer "generation" because they can't be relied upon due to the inability to store or manage reserve fuel.

Nuclear, coal, oil and now, petrol based home generation addresses capacity - that is, dispatchable, on-demand power, not variable power that might be generated if the conditions are right.

195 Sometimes even if you're self employed, you still have to worry about one or two "bosses".

After running a corporation, I left to become an independent sales rep. Picked up two clients and started collecting commissions. Everything was fine for a few years until the owners of the companies saw I was making more than they were.

They stopped paying, I sued, but it took two years to win and get paid. Both suits netted over $1 million each, but it was like pulling teeth.

Now, I have another business that has a wide customer base. Happy times.

This was a political decision at the very top of this company, because it sure as hell has nothing to do with selling candy. I hate the 21st century.

287 "I'm not sure that the Flip Wilson's "The Devil Made Me Do It" schtick is sound doctrine.
Fallen man is quite capable of the most evil and wicked thoughts and deeds without assistance." --
Jesus spoke if the Pharisees that tried to get him to stone the woman (whom they all "had") ... said "you are of your father the devil, and the works of your father you will do". --
imo, there is a level where (some) fallen men make a choice, to the point they are committed to evil and that power. The other level in the Bible is the possessed, which could have the evil spirits kicked out ("exorcised", but I think that is the wrong word) ... and those under such control can heal and change. (or not) --

I prefer that view, and much of DeepState and many oligarchs would fit that evil Pharisee norm (I'd guess there were good Pharisees, but the evil ones led the way). I see a coordinated effort toward evil, not just normal sinful man that acquiesces. But maybe the evil cults just have the advantage of having no moral restraints in attaining power ... idk.

Do good work, be honest, and treat your customers well. When you get enough business, hire good people and treat them well. Unless you're a SW weenie that hits the startup jackpot, it's unlikely that you're ever going to get "f**k you" money working for someone else. I turned down a chance to go to work for my sister's godfather in a plumbing business when I graduated from college in 1974. His sons weren't interested. I've done alright, but that was a shot at owning a business real financial freedom and security that I will always regret having turned down.

343 I have a nice situation. A vanishing skillset, enough financial security that I don't need to do anything, and enough curiosity to take on projects that are newish, or interesting. And demanding to be paid a premium for being involved... Down side: since Uncle Sambo is usually the contractor, I'm usually not listened to. In one particularly hilarious incident, I was contracted to fix the problems that accrued from not listening to me on a past project...There are NO smart people working for the federal government, at least in leadership jobs..
