Re-Education Camp Cafe: Funeral for a Friend Edition

John Hayward/Doc 0 wrote this about Rush Limbaugh:

John Hayward
@Doc_0

I never got to speak to Rush Limbaugh, but he always seemed like a friend I heard from every day. He quoted my work on the air a few times, and it was a surreal delight, a joyous thing that could not possibly be happening. He helped us all become friends.

That's the real measure of Rush's impact. He helped so many people realize they were not alone, even as the mainstream media labored to make them feel isolated and hopeless. He understood that totalitarians overwhelm and dominate ordinary people by making them *feel* surrounded.

How often good and decent people felt isolated before Rush! They wondered why nobody could see what was so perfectly obvious to them. The secret of totalitarian success is to make ordinary people fear everyone around them is an informer or enforcer. Rush shattered that illusion.

The illusion of manufactured consensus and forced conformity never worked on Rush, not for a minute. He KNEW we were all out here, long before his ratings proved it. He gave so many others the confidence to raise their voices, knowing they were not alone.

It takes incredible talent and discipline to realize a bold vision like that. I heard him on the air not long ago, and thought he sounded great, as if time had not touched the voice I first heard over 30 years ago. Someone had to do what he did, but not just anyone COULD have.

And now the Internet will be filled with ugly cries of triumph from the howling darkness Rush spent his life opposing... proving him right once again, one more time. They're still dangerous, but they aren't scary any more, not after Rush spent all those years mocking them.

We all lost a great friend in Rush Limbaugh today, but he showed us how many friends we really have, across this nation and many others. We are one less, but because of him, we will never again fear we are alone. One voice is stilled, but there will never again be silence. /end

Documentary about rare Japanese Tokusatsu videos that were actually played in the US.

No it doesn't mean anything dirty. "Tokusatsu" I think just means giant monsters and giant robots entertainment. Probably the "Toku" is a reference to Toko studios.

Anyway, the documentary is about the lesser-known Tokusatsu shows, like Johnny Socko and His Flying Robot and the Space Giants. And then it gets more obscure.

Ultraman is of course mentioned, but the doc is about Ultraman's imitators.

Here are some animal vids, mostly short this time:

Weird-looking cat with werid meow.

Little hedgehog wakes up.

Cat won't stop effing with a husky.

Teaching a puppy how to shake hands by having him watch his older brother.

Otter fleeing killer whale keeps jumping on to boat to escape.

A seal also jumps on to a boat to escape orcas.

And finally: A sleeping dog farts. A nearby cat expresses displeasure.

6 Put my Pixel 2 loaded with CalyxOS through some serious paces on my recent road-trip from Charleston to Jacksonville and it passed the test with a solid B+. The GPS functions are somewhat weak and OSM is not a great substitute for G-Maps, but otherwise it was a perfectly solid experience.

Have purchased a Pixel 4XL which I will load CalyxOS onto and use as my daily driver for, hopefully, many years to come. The company is totally converged so they won't get any donations from me but I'm happy to support their Gulag Android alternative with my recommendation.

But, as the conventional bias of the legacy media yielded to something far more severe from the woke billionaires of Social Media, Rush remained the Big Voice on the Right, the largest obstacle to the complete marginalization of conservative ideas in our culture. 50 During my first few years in radio, I worked at a little station that had a satellite-delivered format. Part of my duties was to record spot reels for the automation system. I had to record in real time, and it would take me an hour or more to record a day's worth.

We had a stereo AM/FM/cassette in the recording studio for the times someone would send ads on cassette, and while I was recording the automation tapes, I'd listen to Rush in through the cue speaker in the mixing board. It wasn't the station I worked for, and I got in trouble at first, but I didn't care. There wasn't anyone like him on the air. There never will be again.

I understand that idea.

They say like one unaltered pair of cats can produce like 1000 or something in two years.

Was there ever a time before we spayed and neutered pets where we were overrun with like billions and billions of cats and dogs though?

It seems like we didn't start castrating pets in earnest until the 1960s. But domestic animals were around for centuries before that.

Shouldn't we have been like tripping over 92 cats on our way to the car in the morning with that type of proliferation?

My proposal: Since we can all pretty much agree the Grand Old Party has rotted into the Glaringly Obsolete Party & anyone with more than two brain cells remaining in their cabeza knows it's time to tell them to kiss our collective asses goodbye for all eternity, then the time has come to start a third party and weed out the corruptocrats currently infesting our republic. Now, we'll need a name 4 that third party; a name that encapsulates our philosophy, our determination, and our demands. I suggest we name it "The Rush Party".
At this very moment every degenerate mental misfit on the left is singing and dancing on Rush's corpse before it's even cold thinking they've finally rid themselves of him forever. Nah-ah. We name the party for Rush and shove it in their fucking faces every fucking day 4 the rest of their miserable fucking lives. No single man in this country deserves it more. It will be a fitting and lasting tribute to him as our thanks. Get this trending. Rush 2022 Rush 2024 Rush 2026 ...

Where i grew up, outdoor cats were on the menu of damned near everthing except the family dog, and sometimes that wasn't safe either.

There was an absolute dearth of stray cats in the 60s and 70s. Urban sprawl lets them proliferate unchecked.

When the vietnamese moved into south Louisiana, that put a cramp on the outdoor cat population for a while. Just until Bubba figured out what happened to his kid's pet. Then Bubba exercised his ptsd and that shit stopped cold fooking turkey.

I never saw it as a kid. Only caught bits and pieces on tv when I was out of town. Looked like such a cool show. It was never on in our market (and I looked.) Then dvds became a thing, and I saw it then. The first series is interesting. The second and third just get more and more weird.

195 So the freak ice/snow storm came through Friday night and we just got electricity back this afternoon. Trees down. Limbs smashing everything. Ice bombs through the night were fun. So I spent the last 3 days running my generator, running extension cords to the 2 good neighbors, and waving at the jackass lib neighbor who complains about all my gas guzzling fossil fuel cars. So why should he benefit from my gas guzzling generator? Complains about my firepit, so why should I let him warm himself to it? While I was gone to find more gas for the generator, my wife let him charge his cell phone. Leave it to my wife to be compassionate, even when this jackass complained to the city about my wifes rear bumper overhanging the sidewalk by 6" last summer.

It was fun running around with the other people in the neighborhood with our chainsaws clearing streets, peoples driveways. Helping those who want help. Then have the city tell us to stop, because they have a public works crew that does that. They hadn't been seen in 2 days, but hey, whatever.

Rush's wife, Kay (?) wanted Elton John to play at their wedding reception. Which he did, probably for a phenomenal fee.
Rush discussed on the air a conversation he had with Elton either prior to his performance or afterward at his wedding reception.
Essentially, a lot of people told Elton he should NOT play at Rush and wife's wedding reception. Elton pretty much said, I am old enough to figure out what I want to do myself. I don't care what you think.
He and Rush kind of hit it off, but I don't know if you would call him a "friend". They were friendly to each other on that occasion. I don't know if they ever spoke much again.

278 In between snow storms here in NE OH.

Busted a shear bolt on the tractor-mounted blower last night about halfway through clearing snow from the first storm. It ingested something as I was clearing my new neighbor's mail box area (the ones who bought ly late in-law's house).

I figured it was a piece of pavement. Today I fixed the blower. What got jammed in there was a new brass compression fitting for gas line.

So, it looks like it came from a box of parts of my late FIL. Prolly fell off the scrapper's truck after he cleaned out the pole barn.

It made the repair not so objectionable, somehow. Don't even mind the smashed and throbbing pinky fingertip I ended up with.

He was a good man. He had a mission to get a message through. He did the best he could.
He lived a good life, though he was not perfect. I think he was married four times. We should all celebrate the life he led, and the impact he had on all of us, either directly through listening or indirectly by his influence on culture.
William Buckley called him up (I think it was 2004), as Buckley was retiring from National Review, and told him that HE (Rush) was now the leading voice for Conservatism in the country. I think that meant a lot to Rush.

I sincerely hope those books aren't memory holed, it's going to take an effort on all our parts not to let that happen.

Bitcoin transactions rely on a certain property of cryptography to assure third parties that the transactions are legitimate. Basically you have to figure out a number which when encrypted creates a certain result. You can't predict it so the only way is to try every possible number starting with 1 and working your way up, until you find the correct value. Bitcoin miners do that, and the first one to find it gets a newly created bitcoin.

IIRC, the left attacked the company constantly. Made up stories about it, the people working there, customer service, bad ingredients, total BS. I never bought any but almost did just because of that (not a big fan of that kind of stuff). I'm sure there was litigation against them we never heard about.

468 From Rush's 2009 CPAC speech, over at Breitbart. Many say it was the finest speech he ever gave.
One small part of it stood out to me:

We are talking about the United States of America - and there will always be an America, don't misunderstand me - we're talking about it remaining the country we were all born into and reared and grown into. And it's under assault. It's always under assault. But it's never been under assault like this, from within, before. And it's a serious, serious battle.

So as you leave here, as you leave here: optimism, confidence, not guilt, it's not worth it.

473 2/2

There's nothing to be guilty about. Don't treat people as children. Respect their intelligence. Realize that there's a way to persuade people. Sometimes the worst way is to get in their face and point a finger. Set up a set of circumstances where the conclusion is obvious. Let them think they came up with the idea themselves. They'll think they're smart that they figured it out. Who cares how you persuade them, the fact they can be persuaded is factually correct, it's possible. But the main thing to do here is stop thinking that we are a minority. Stop thinking that it is being in the minority that liberates you. It is your beliefs. It is your core principles, it is your confidence that liberates you. It is not being in the minority.

Not as poetic, but it covers most of the common exceptions.
