The Saturday Night Joke

Sitting in a bar the Scotsman says, "As good as this bar is, I still prefer the pubs back home. In Glasgow, there's a wee place called McTavish's. The landlord goes out of his way for the locals. When you buy four drinks, he'll buy the fifth drink."

"Well, Angus," said the Englishman, "At my local in London , the Red Lion, the barman will buy you your third drink after you buy the first two."

"Ahhh, dat's nothin'," said the Irishman, "back home in my favorite pub, the moment you set foot in the place, they'll buy you a drink, then another, all the drinks you like, actually. Then, when you've had enough drinks, they'll take you upstairs and see that you gets laid, all on the house!"

The Englishman and Scotsman were suspicious of the claims. The Irishman swore every word was true.

Then the Englishman asked, "Did this actually happen to you?"

"Not meself, personally, no," admitted the Irishman, "but it did happen to me sister quite a few times."

Who does not love pizza? No one that we know, and if you know someone who hates it, well, they are not normal. Hey, we're just saying. Now, there have been plenty of recorded instances of animals scarfing down pizza too. However, did you ever stop to think what would happen if you left a pizza unguarded in the woods?

DD#3 is truly a pampered woman-child; she is aghast at having to go this long without a shower or a flushable toilet.

68 When we had the power outage here, we were using the wood stove a lot to stay less than freezing in the house, but ran out of wood. A run to the store revealed that, well, pretty much everyone else in the city was in the same state.

All that was left in the wood section of any store was one place, with a big stack of pressed logs from KFC promising the smell of the Colonels' herbs and spices when you burned them.

Strangely no one wanted that in their house, let alone at 9 bucks a package of 3 logs.

I am at my local pub doing what you do at a local pub (and inside for for the first time a year, I feel like I am being respected for being house broken).

Anyhoo...they have a family bathroom (I know, what they hell, when did pubs start having family bathrooms?) and it has a chalkboard full of all kinds of non family type graffiti (I know, who has a family bathroom with a chalkboard full none family friendly graffiti?).

There was one comment relevant to to the joke and the spirit of families, especially really new ones. Behold the greatest comment ever from the family chalkboard in the family restroom at my local pub where I am doing what you do at a local pub:

Up to mid 90s I think I'd say crispy. Because it was this massive yummy crispy structure encasing chicken meat. But they changed their recipe and since then not as much crisp and original tastes better.

Mixed up the Desoto and New Yorker of '56. Mopar used to have so many different brands.

Some I just flat out guessed, but got 2 of the 4 each time, and then guessed the two remaining ones.

I hope nobody messed up the 4 different '50's era Chevies, they seem so distinct, mainly I saw so many of them growing up and later.

I remember when I was living at my apartment and walking by three cars from different manufacturers all lined up. It was a Ford a Toyota and maybe a Chrysler. They were identical in their lines and the slope of their hood through the windshield. Only variation was in the headlight and grill shaping.

Those old Furies were awesome. My grandparents bought a 1970s Fury, huge old boat with the turn signal indicators way up on the front of the hood. Drove like a dream and had a ton of power they never used.

157 Most old cars are crap. I particularly liked the segment they did on Top Gear where they took a pretty ordinary modern sedan and raced it against a 1980s top end Ferrari.

The Ferrari did not do well, it just couldn't corner as well, had less pickup, I mean it was faster overall but on their track it was just left behind.

But if you restomod those old cars from the 70s and back, you can make a real dream.

160 Well finally got in The Cold Blue who's delivery had been delayed by the extreme cold weather.

One of the surviving 8th AF veterans opens by singing his adaptation of a popular song. People waiting for the arrival of Memphis Belle on her war bond tour. We are then treated to seeing the bomber do a low flyover before landing. Vets talking of fighting the cold, taking their mask off and hitting it to break the ice that formed inside. Of them wanting fresh eggs but knowing being served eggs sunny side up meant this mission was going to be rough. Bailing out of a crippled Fortress and one making it to the ground only to be killed by pitchforks.

Since the original footage was shot on 16mm cameras without sound, sound had to be added. All B-17 sounds were recorded on the now destroyed B-17G Nine-O-Nine. The restorers had to remove a defect that was caused by the original film development, blue lines that was in every scene. The colors really pop now, no longer is everything muddy and muted. Dame Satan is really rocking the red. In Der Fuhrer's Face the flowers are now Disney bright.

Just watch a show on The Gentle Bearman. He runs a sanctuary on his property in Canada and feeds wild bears . He feeds them left over / expired bread and bakery products donated by local grocery stores. He feeds them other stuff combined with it getting them ready to hibernate.

My part of Austin just had it's 4th day without water. I filled my large tub with potable water for cooking and washing up. We've collected another bath tub and a few bins of snow melt from our roof to flush toilet. We're still looking at a few if not several more days before we get running water again. I haven't had hot running water since the Friday before when my tankless heaters froze. Not sure if they are still functional until we get running water again. Went to a friends for our first showers in over a week today. This past week has been....interesting...

Up to mid 90s I think I'd say crispy. Because it was this massive yummy crispy structure encasing chicken meat. But they changed their recipe and since then not as much crisp and original tastes better.

I'm reading this right off of the CDC website. Like most of the data on anything related to Covid, it's more complicated and uncertain than is widely acknowledged.

Moorage in the Puget Sound area is changing because the mix of boats is changing.
During the '60's - 70's, a lot of families boated around Puget Sound, in boats from the low 20' size to boats up to maybe 36'. For a middle to upper middle class family, it was affordable.
In the last 15 years, certainly the last 10, many of the older moorage docks, designed for older length boats mentioned above, are being torn out, and larger berths are being added.
Boating (non-towable boats) has become crazy expensive, and the six-figure salaries not beginning with a 1 are needed. In Tacoma's Hylebos waterway for instance, a new marina is replacing an old one. The slips are 50' up to 60', the work is not near being done, and I was told last week they are all spoken for already.

If you look at most countries, their "national beers" are much worse. Sure there are a few exceptions, but what is the national beer of Germany or Belgium? Do they even have national beers?
I have tried the most common beers in Japan, South Korea, Russia, China, Spain, Canada, Central America, etc. They are almost all adjunct lagers and most of them are wore than Bud or Coors by a quantifiable level.

In 2008 I woke up in a hotel room with ringing in my ears so loud I thought the fire alarm was going off and I got dressed. The left ear mostly subsided, but the right ear still rings. I asked my ENT about it and whether it was due to firing weapons. He pointed out that the muzzle is closer to my left ear than the right, so that's probably not the cause. Pulling on my earlobe decreases it, so it's probably a nerve being pinched. I just ignore it too.

That doesn't surprise me in the least. Bud had always been popular with Hispanics on both sides of the border. They created Bud Light lime to compete with Corona. I hear it is flat out awful, but a lot of people like it.

The other funny thing is many people love anything "imported" or at least they used to. I know in the overpriced tourist discos in London, the punters were drinking American Bud.

for sure. The American Company Constellation Brands, ticker STZ made a killing with Corona and Modelo. They were more of a growth stock six or seven years ago but I guess they have done ok. If you owned them in the Obama era, you did quite well. They have made some major changes to their portfolio and also bet on pot. Who knows how it will turn out, I know I don't.

Italy has some really nice micro beers. They are not easy to get so you don't see them much. Peroni is ok but truthfully it is no better than a generic American macro such as Bud or Coors. The problem is getting them fresh, that will always be an issue.

One beer I like that is cheap is Red Stripe. It is not world changing but it has a good flavor that goes with many foods. Another more obscure recco is Beer Lao from Laos. If you can get it reasonably fresh, it is well worth trying.

Recently, my local Kroger's has been putting Hamm's on the shelf. 16oz cans. Carefully reading labels, it seems it's the Real Thing. Tastes like BEER. Not a great or wonderful beer, but it brings back the sense of what my Dad shared with me when I was but a wee tyke. At $10 for two six packs, how could I not keep some in stock, myself?

I'm drinking Hawaii's most popular beer from Kona Brewing right now, Big Wave Golden Ale. Another of their flavors is Longboard. There are a couple of other flavors as well from them available at various times of the year.
Both are readily available in grocery stores around here.
Because it is actually brewed in Portland, OR. You would never know that by looking at the 6-pak packaging. It has classic Hawaiian images on it, and on the bottom is a pic of all the Hawaiian islands.

First time I had Kirin beer was on board a Japanese freighter tied up at the dock in Tahsis, B.C. to take on a load of lumber. Was with cow-orkers on a mineral exploration, and we were having a beer at the Tahsis hotel. Got to talking with the chief engineer on the ship, and we got to visit on board, and had a tour of the engine room. They had two spare pistons for the engine strapped to a railing, and each would have made a bar room table for the hotel.

Miller has a particular sour funk that once you really notice it you can't forget. For some reason, many aficionados prefer miller high life. I know I don't.

To be clear, this was a blind taste test between regular Molson Canadian and Coors Lite. Poured in glasses, they were indistinguishable by color or by taste, and least to those of us who participated. Molson also makes a liight beer, but we didn't try that one, because none of us regularly drank it.

Being the oldest, I'd hang with Dad doing chores on the weekends, mostly grabbing a wrench for him when he was under the hood, stuff like that, and he would drink some Hamm's along with his Rainier. After I turned about 12, he switched to Heidelberg, in the "keg bottle".

Good buddy collects neon and lighted beer signs. A Hamm's sign, lit with a moving background (back light over a rotating part that makes it look like it is moving) is one of his rarest ones. He has had it now for 20 years. It was a few years ago he last looked it up, and it was valued at $750.

I promise you, I believe you. The key with macros is they have removed anything that might cause offense to anyone that they have become generic. That is one reason I wonder when people say they taste like shit. The really well made ones don't take like much at all to be honest. But I do say someone should be able to tell a Bud from a Bud Light. One is simply more watery, and that should not be a surprise.

Action now works properly, with an acceptable force on the trigger, and my hand-made cylinder stop spring does stop the cylinder from rotating when the trigger is released, and falls away as the trigger is pulled, and the cylinder stop built into the trigger takes over.

523 AOP. I have a huge love for H&R revolvers. Not "finished" as nicely as a S&W or Colt, but still, very good machining and bluing. Good fit and assembly, always. Where they seemed weak, is that they never mastered the lockwork geometries that made the two premium brands, the PREMIUM brands. The H&R will always feel "less refined" in operation, even though it's the equal in steels, machining and fitment.

But H&R sure did make some very, very neat and interesting guns. Enjoy yours to the fullest!

You'd ruin some good Scotch, and the mower wouldn't run. You might get a mower to run on 190-proof Everclear, but the choke would have to be almost fully closed. I once had a '61 VW Bug, and ran it out of gas late at night in Vancouver. There was a 24-hour gas station (then a rarity) about ten blocks away. I had a pint bottle of alcohol windshield washer anti feeze on hand, the concentrate, no water. I dumped that in the tank, and with a warm engine, and the choke fully pulled, it started. Ran poorly, but got me to the gas station.

I am not saying this story is false, but there is a something about it that bothers me. Ok, it doesn't bother me but still it is odd in my opinion. Johnie Walker Blue came out in 1992. JW has changed their Gold so many times that the moniker has lost all meaning. The key is to see if it is the 18 year bottle. That bottle has been called gold, then platinum, then simply aged 18 years. It is a very fine whisky, almost a desert whisky. I would not go for it every day, it is a dram for after a nice meal if you want something sweet and flowery.

some things always go up in price. I recommended this once before but imo you can't go wrong buying all the "forever stamps" from the post office. From all i have seen, postage stamps only go up on price over time. i don't know the legalities re selling them, but then again, it is your private property. Looking back, a man could have done well by hording "forever" stamps.

The Quinta Ruban is out of stock in my area and has been for weeks. Very weird. i don't know if a rapper recommended it or what. Something happened that that specific Scotch is now unattainable. The Ardbeg Uigeadail is also out in most places. I wonder if some are thinking Biden will lift the single malt scotch tariffs.

Tricky Dick was one smart SOB. He loathed the elite Ivy League, was an ardent anti-commie, and that's why they destroyed him. Of course, he contributed to his own destruction, but presidents have done far worse than him. LBJ for instance, whom I suspect had people killed.

All the Kennedy assassination stuff, I don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me if LBJ had something to do with it. Or knew what was going on.

Scotch prices are up. Really good Scotch has always been expensive, but their is no doubt the prices are up. While you can get a good Bourbon for $30 a fifth, a good Scotch will cost you $60 a fifth to be realistic. There area few reasons for that. Scotch is made in a socialist country, so there is that. Scotch ages slower, and that adds to the tax bill and cost, so there is that. There is also a 25 percent tariff on single malt Scotch placed by the Trump administration. But what so many seem to ignore, is the fact the the E.U. placed a 25 percent tariff on American Bourbon a year prior.

593 while Scotch prices are high, the real inflation has been in the small release Bourbon business. While good Scotch will never be cheap. the stuff that has gone crazy is small release Bourbon. These guys geek out. They wait outside the stores when the shipments come in and then many of them horde it and sell it to others. This is illegal in most states but they don't care. These people are also the most unfriendly you will ever meet. They don't give a crap about anyone else, they are after a score, and that is all that matters.

i hope the Bourbon guys raise the prices so high they all go into hock.

Christ Marijuana even on NIxon? Look, i dropped it long ago. I don't mess with other peoples Dieties. But to blame Nixon for Marijuana? The country was at least 80 percent opposed at the time. Take the win and be happy with it. A lot of conservatives are not happy because it is just one more example of how the nation has been warped beyond recognition over the last 30 years.

A local radio host mentioned today that the mob used to run prostitution, gambling, and drugs. They were attacked for that for as long as most Americans recall. Now the Dems and statists are all in on running them all as state sanctioned entities. And we all know that America is way better now than it was 30 or 40 years ago.

The famous example is Lincoln's letter to Meade after the battle of Gettysburg. He ripped Meade to shreds and made it clear that the battle was a lost opportunity, not a great victory. 600 the thing about pot heads is they go on an on about how it is safe and non addictive. But they also risk everything over pot. Many of them devote their lives to pot. How many sports figures have ruined their careers over pot? But they still say it is not addictive and not dangerous. It is like as if people would end their careers over Allspice, Coriander or Nutmeg.
