Democratic leaders of the New York State Senate are reportedly working to strip New York Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo of his emergency powers in the aftermath of revelations about his handling of pandemic. Democratic and Republican lawmakers have been demanding answers since a top Cuomo aide admitted that the Governor's administration hid data on senior deaths at nursing homes and long-term care facilities over fears of a Department of Justice investigation. During a press conference after the revelation, Cuomo denied the allegations.Some functionary might take a fall, although I doubt it. There will be a hearing or two, some critical headlines in the NY Post, some ass-covering headlines in the NY Times, and then...poof. It will all be gone. But it should have at least one salutary effect; we won't have to hear about Andrew Cuomo as a presidential candidate. New York may enjoy giving him tongue baths, but the rest of the country finds him to be a greasy machine politician who has the stench of corruption about him, and that isn't just the rotting bodies of his elderly victims. He is a political thug who has led a charmed political life, but has risen as far as he will ever go. The idea that America would accept him is laughable, and evidence of his outrageous arrogance and insularity. He thinks that he will step effortlessly onto the national stage by virtue of his masterful Wuhan Flu work in NY? The attack ads write themselves. So please..Andrew Cuomo! Run for president! You are America's Great Hope!

By stripping emergency powers, it will change the ongoing 'Rona response. They will hand it to a different "expert" who will begin changing the restrictions. They will never go away, but they will probably be eased. When nothing changes regarding the 'Rona, it will be a victory for "expert" management and "people over politics" and the economy will start doing a bit better. This will provide the excuse needed for other states to strip emergency powers and follow the same playbook, backing things off by about 50%, seeing some economic improvement, making people a tad less miserable and then claiming it as a victory for their technocrat expert class.

Have you noticed that despite constant investigations of all sorts, government malfeasance has actually increased at all levels along with political misconduct?
My belief is that the so called justice system has become a system of injustice. The solution is to return both grand and petit (trial) juries to prominence and demote the position of both judges and prosecutors. One, jury should be returned to the power of finding both facts and application of law to the case and two, grand jury powers should be independent of prosecutors and have their own investigative powers. The power of justice is too important to be left to prosecutors and judges in that a system of a body of laws that is too massive to comprehend often promotes injustices in individual cases due to political agendas. I trust the people of this country assembled more than the experts.

Agreed. His writing, IMHO, suffered greatly after that. The Gunslinger series he did was excellent up until the last 1 or 2 books. When he inserted himself into that story it ruined it.These people don't get it. It is so easy and convenient to be a liberal greenie when you are well off, when you don't have to wonder how you will pay for your next tank of oil to heat your house, how to pay your property tax bill, or afford the $4.50/gallon of gas that is coming.

A couple of things worth noting, since I'm trudging through The Stand. First, the whole damn thing is kind of a "what if" around an Earth with substantially fewer humans, which is of course a dream of our Great Reset folks. And B., one of the main characters, Nick, actually has sex with Julie, the girl he meets in Kansas. There's a line in the book where King has Nick saying "thank God she's 17." Or something like that.
So yeah, King likes 'em young.

Eh I fell 30 feet with a rucksack on, not the same as getting nailed by a car. (I did that at age 12 and relearned to walk and willed myself into a pretty good distance runner.)
The fall was finally THE injury my body could not shrug off. I have a rather bad hip that has worked well enough for 25+ years of deterioration, I fully expect to be told I cannot get a replacement when the time comes. Rationed medical care will be the best.

I finished Gunslinger and decided I was bored with where it was going. But I did enjoy The Stand. Still do. I always thought it was approachable at least, and wasn't too self-conscious in what story it was trying to tell.
It's when King decides he's writing Serious "Littrachaw" that we see he just doesn't have the gift for doing it.

It's PayPal with a slick social media interface and emojis. Worst is that by default it posts publicly that you have made a payment to another member (although not the amount or other info). You can turn that stuff off, but it's annoying that you have to consciously seek it out.
Honestly, I'd avoid. I have to use it for one payment to one person who only uses Venmo, and it pisses me off.

I know last year when Rush first announced his diagnosis, he'd mentioned something like an online Rush museum. I have no doubt that every single thing he said on radio or TV has been archived (save for possibly his early 80's stuff), and I for one would make a Saturday evening out of watching/listening to every single year's worth.
He was funny AF back in the 80's and early 90's, and I had forgotten all about his TV show. I only caught it if I was visiting my parents at the right time - I was TV free from 1979 to about 1992-3ish. I put a 45/ACP into my TV set one evening. Damn, I wish we had cell phones that could record video back then.

They're like video games. The first one has a story, a tight setup, with payoff. The sequels are meant for speed runs, which is basically just what they are, regardless of how bloated the "world" is in which they are operating.

Exactly. Mystery- something absolutely verboten in modern cinema. They explained what they needed to. Killer gone straight. Wife dies. Wife gifts puppy to Former Killer. Numb nuts kills puppy. Killer kills everyone responsible.
The world building done in the original was all they needed to do and was made more interesting by the fact that they DIDN'T feel the need to explain it. It left up to the viewer to come up with their own thoughts and gave them a thirst to want to find out more. The makers were stupid and gave it to them.

I need new knees but Tricare won't let me have them. First they said I had to be 60 and when I turned 60 they said nope, gotta be 65 now. Then they added that you have to be in a wheelchair and immobile for at least a year before they will authorize it no matter what age you are.
22 years in the Military and all of that free healthcare for life stuff.

It's worldbuilding (though I don't like the scene eitehr). It's expanding on 'The Table' and serving and submission. Very Islamic, very 'Old Man of the Mountains', which fits for assassins.
I think the sequels are inferior but they're still badass action movies. Most of the stunts are done in-camera and not via cuts and usually we're seeing whole body shots for the fight scenes.

It was almost a perfect action movie to me. There was a scene where the wife says "You need to love something. The car doesn't count." where it established his relationship with EVERYTHING. All of it. Then a shot after the the car is gone of him arming up and you see her bracelet and the dog collar on the nightstand.
That's all you need to know.
