Reminds me of a story I read in a Bennett Cerf collection about a couple of young women who, while frolicking in the sand, came across an older gentleman asleep on a blanket with a camera next to him.

Since no-one was around, they stripped, took pictures of themselves and put his camera back in place before dressing and running away, leaving the poor man to explain his holiday shots to the developer.

Well, thanks, but from my POV (and what I think the Bible says) were all sinners in needs of God's grace and that, of course, would include me. A saint in Paul's terminology is a follower of Christ, so anybody here who is a Christian is a saint even though most of us won't be declared canonized Saints by the RCC. And anyone who wants me to pray for their soul is already close enough to God to go to HIM and ask for a little soul power.

140 Since we're past 100, Tom Servo in the last thread mentioned the adventurer / writer Richard Halliburton.

Halliburton vanished in 1939, as he was attempting to sail a Chinese junk around the world. Alan Landsburg, who created the In Search Of series, wrote a companion book, In Search of Missing Persons which featured a chapter on Halliburton. Landsburg theorised that he had grown tired of life and decided the best way to go out was "during an adventure" and sailed off knowing he would die.

Landsburg based this on testimony he read and received from people who knew Halliburton and those who stated that the junk he was sailing was so unseaworthy that it could never survive the trip.

Pretty easy.

Oblabla shutdown 3 coal burning power plants "to save the planet". And as it turns out, kill the living due to power outages when it's really hot and now really cold.

Those power plants weren't truly replaced. Just some unreliable and impractical windmills built in west Texas. On the upside, these got Guv Abbott a pretty little fake award a couple of weeks before the Freeze for being the Greenest of Them All.

There are many instances of NAMBLiA. They are but one player out of many who do the same thing. I suspect that it is because the Left, now that they have won, are doing a classic gangster move after taking over a new territory: ice one of their quislings in full view of the others to make it clear under no uncertain terms who is in charge and who holds all the cards.

They're killing off one of them deliberately to put the others on notice that they will continue to do as they're told and do so more loudly and obviously than ever or they too will be killed. They're an object lesson. As to why they were selected to be the object lesson, I suspect the answer is "because they're also enormous assholes."

I disagree with this in part. The data show that nothing they have done - masking, social distancing, lockdowns, curfews, etc. - actually have any effect. It essentially has been "running its course" like anything else, and nothing they have done actually changed the outcome.

So given that nothing has worked and the spread has been essentially unchecked, it is what it is. The vaccine will unlikely make a significant difference, either. It is all just an excuse to implement their desires. They could have done what they did or they could have done nothing and the outcomes disease-wise would be the same. Had they done nothing, though, we'd be much better off. Even if what they did had been effective, this disease isn't bad enough to justify it. The cure - even if it had worked - is worse than the disease.

That is incorrect and unhelpful. No gene editing is involved. They ARE a vaccine in that a viral spike protein is introduced into the body (using mRNA and the cell's own machinery to make the protein), in order to provoke an immune response specific to that protein.

Unknown factors include the length of time effective immunity is conferred as well as long-term possible autoimmune reactions (unintended harm caused to tissues of the body by the provoked immune response). Determining those things may take years.

This is why any new American civil war will be won for one side or the other by a foreign power. If things get chaotic here (take the Irish Troubles as an example), someone will eventually convince himself that hitting Washington, New York, Miami, San Francisco and Los Angeles would be in his best interest because it would knock the USA off the world stage and we'd be unable to respond due to internal strife. 347 337 The Cat mRNA vaccine for a feline cancer proved to be 100% FATAL when the vaccinated animal was exposed to the virus.

***

There was a link from a few days ago (American Thinker) that said that quite a few of the animals that received vaccination enjoyed a cytokine storm after time had passed and then being exposed to the COVID they were vaccinated against.

But don't worry because there are no cases of that happening to humans yet.
Posted by: Lysenko's Wonder Kulaks at February 17, 2021 10:36 AM (hsOar)

From what I understand cytokine storms were a common consequence of past attempts at a cold vaccine.

Posted by: Red Turban Someguy - The Republic is Already Dead at February 17, 2021 10:38 AM (Zm+LZ)

348 No. They are nothing of a sort. mRNA has nothing to do with gene editing. All it does is provide a blueprint for the ribosomes to make a protein.
Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo at February 17, 2021 10:26 AM (Q9lwr)

Doesn't matter. It doesn't work, anyway, if you define "work" as "receiving the vaccination allows me to resume living my normal life".

If they came out with an experimental contraceptive vaccine, but after getting it, you could still get pregnant...and you still had to wear a condom, would you get it?

Sorry. That's not a vaccine in any variation of the word. Doesn't matter what the vaccine if for. Replace contraceptive with polio and condom with iron lung and it still holds true.

The other day, I heard a PSA on the radio about the COVID vaccine being safe and tested. However, if you look, you can't find the results of the long term clinical trials because they were never done. How can you say this injection is safe if there are NO long term clinical trials? As I understand it, the trials that were done were did not include individuals with co-morbidities. So.. how can they claim they are safe with no long term evidence?

Hence... the deaths listed on the VAERS website.

Which is why vaccines usually take years to get approved. The development time is not usually the majority of the exercise. It takes a long time to track consequences and find problems. That's why I am not getting it. It's been rushed, not through development necessarily but certainly through validation and effect-tracking. I am fairly low risk. I'm young. I'm overweight but have no other health problems. If I get it, it's gonna suck but I'll survive. I'll take that over a vaccine that was hurried through approval. I'll reconsider that position in a few years.

Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at February 17, 2021 10:41 AM (UZVEt)

355 Can't believe that I am doing this but the NY Times actually has a series on the development of the vaccines that is good. Each vaccine gets its own article. For myself, I am waiting for the more traditional Johnson and Johnson vaccine due to less medical risks for an underlying personal medical issue.

This is on the Moderna vaccine but it is similar to Pfizer.

A left-wing activist facing criminal charges for his involvement in the Capitol riots received $35,000 from both CNN and NBC for footage he recorded of a Trump supporter being fatally shot inside the Capitol building, according to records he filed in federal court on Tuesday.--

I've yet to see Ashli Babbitt named in any msm report to this day. She is always reduced to a descriptor, usually with negative connotations. Unpersoned.

The main thing that concerns me about the mRNA vaccines is that they were approved on an emergency basis.

That means they didn't have to jump through all the hoops and conduct the tests needed for regular FDA drug approval.
And all this for a disease that's what? .02% fatal.

I know Sanofi is coming up with a traditional vaccine.
Any other companies going the traditional route with a vaccine out soon?

The other problem is that we aren't hearing real science right now. mRNA vaccines should work. But, if they're telling us all this silliness that the vaccinated need to stay quarantined cuz the vaccine won't protect them, then WTF?

408 Today is a grey, icey day. (Yesterday was 7 degrees but sunny with crystal blue skies) Water is still off and power intermittent, and the propane is about to run out in our little burb (no one thought to pay the minimal cost to have a scraper drive in front of the propane truck to get out here to refill). Neighbors' pipes have frozen and our pool equipment is in shambles but we won't know the full extent of damage until the thaw. At least I had power to make coffee.

I would take that report about the junk not being seaworthy with a grain of salt. My husband owned a Chinese junk, long before he met me. He was working in the shipyards and met a Korean that had worked on junks. They are built completely different from our seagoing boats, but it does not mean they aren't seaworthy.

He sold it after his son was born. The guy that bought it had it rebuilt as a modern style boat. It weakened it and it could not longer go out in deep water. But it still crops up for sale. Boat was called Phai Lon.

483 I haven't looked at it in years, but IIRC those are supposed to be 12" below the frost line.

I bet that is strictly adhered to by men with shovels.

Ground tends to shift over time. So, what was originally buried deep enough can become too close to the surface. Also, in northern climates, MN, specifically, snow acts as an insulator, preventing the frost line from going to deep. However, what can and has happened, is weeks of sub zero weather, coupled with no snow, will drive the frost line deep enough to freeze pipes, even though they are buried per code.

Possibly. There have been so many fires, one loses track. I'd also like to ask these idiots who blame these fires on global warming, that, if that's the case, then why not do a bit of mitigation so as to limit the amount of damage caused by fire?
