Buffy the Vampire Slayer Creator and Noted Male Feminist Joss Whedon Is Hit By New Allegations of Abuse by Actresses

Every male feminist should be forced to hand out r@pe whistles to all women within 500 yards.

The actresses released statements on social media putting distance between themselves and the embattled director/producer/writer.

"While I am proud to have my name associated with Buffy Summers, I don’t want to be forever associated with the name Joss Whedon," Gellar, 43, wrote via Instagram on Wednesday. "I am more focused on raising my family and surviving a pandemic currently so I will not be making any further statements. At this time, but I stand with all survivors of abuse and I'm proud of them for speaking out."

Trachtenberg wrote on Instagram, "Thank you @sarahmgellar for saying this. I am brave enough now as a 35-year-old woman....To repost this. Because. This must. Be known. As a teenager. With his not appropriate behavior....very. Not. Appropriate."

...

"For nearly two decades, I have held my tongue and even made excuses for certain events that traumatized me to this day," the actress began her two-page note. "Joss Whedon abused his power on numerous occasions while working together on sets of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. While he found his misconduct amusing, it only served to intensify my performance anxiety, disempower me, and alienate me from my peers. The disturbing incidents triggered a chronic physical condition from which I still suffer. It is with a beating, heavy heart that I say I coped in isolation and, at times, destructively."

Actress Michelle Tractenberg has revealed a suggestive claim:

On Thursday, the actress (who played Dawn Summers on the show) claimed that there was a rule on set that Whedon was not allowed to be in a room alone with her.

"The last. Comment I will make on this. Was. There was a rule. Saying. He's not allowed in a room alone with Michelle again," Trachtenberg wrote in an Instagram post. In the same post, Trachtenberg had reposted "Buffy" star Sarah Michelle Gellar's social media post saying she "stands with all survivors of abuse and am proud of them for speaking out."

Insider contacted Whedon's and Trachtenberg's representatives for further comment but did not get a response.

Below, the complaint of Charisma Carpenter that started this.

Whedon called her "fat." She told him that that was because she was four months pregnant.

He then demanded to know if she was going to "keep it," with the suggestion that she was behaving selfishly by keeping the baby and being all "fat" for his stupid man-boy vampire fantasy bullshit show.

IIRC, he has always been known as a Cameron-esqe asshole (with more passive aggressive tendencies.) However, it was all papered over because Buffy was the beginning of the 5 foot 100 pound girl beating up 300 lb gorillas. 34 Probably should find the link to the article Whedon;s ex-wife wrote about him. He's a special kind of harasser.

Also should be noted: this was kicked off by the recent action by the studio in response to a male actor's complaints of abusive behavior by Whedon on the set of "Justice League" movie. They intervoewed Carpenter as part of that investigation. The results? They fired the black actor.

So, Whedon doesn;t just survive sexual harassment charges, he gets a pass for racially abusive treatment, too.

Posted by: Harris Junta at February 15, 2021 12:26 PM (hupQC)

75 I find this great, and a little troubling.

First, great, because it's Joss Whedon, a sanctimonious left-wing a-hole, and it's good to see one get what he deserves. And some of this does appear to be sexual harassment.

But a little troubling, because some of this is just that he's difficult to work with, both for men and women. And while that can be an issue in and of itself, it's not harassment. I think Jeffrey Tambor got tagged with some of this at the height of the Me Too lynch mob. "He was MEAN to me!" "He yelled at me!" "Clearly he's a woman-hater!" I don't know these guys, and I'm not going to waste a whole lot of effort defending them, but I also don't think we should banish someone forever because he's a man, and he had a disagreement with a woman.

But yeah, also screw Joss Whedon.

She also followed him, along with Eliza Dushku, to Dollhouse.

And on Angel, they not only killed her character, they destroyed her soul. That struck me as particularly cruel, for one of the sweetest characters he ever created. Then he had her character's face scarred in Dollhouse.

Dushku, it is known, was sexually abused when she was 12, on the set of the Schwarzenegger film, the one with Jamie Lee Curtis. I forget the name of it.

Yeah, we've heard this all before - or something that's similar. The only difference was it was during the absolute peak of marvelmania. Now that it's a floundering enterprise, Joss is more fair game than he was 4 years back. Ace is right, he's perfect for Disney. He'd do a great job continuing on the SW franchise taking it to entirely new unplunged depths.

Exactly. That's why Mira Sorvino was admirably better than her peers on the Harvey Weinstein thing. She said no, and was punished for it in Hollywood. But it makes you wonder, who said yes? Clearly, if Harvey was getting all "no" responses, that crap would have stopped. Who are the actresses who owe their careers to saying yes to Harvey? This stuff will stop when the men who do this are punished, and the women who say yes are publicly shamed.

Censure is useful because it signals to potential primary rivals that Sasse is now vulnerable in 2026 and puts a hole in any 2024 run nationally. It is also about all a state party can do regarding an officeholder not subject to recall.

In one of the other threads I was bitching about the near impossibility of finding Near East brand rice pilaf. I was at Publix the other day and was delighted to discover that they had plenty of it, the steaks looked good, and their house brand cheese appears to come reasonably close to Kroger's rather excellent stuff.

So it's looking like Kroger is about to go down faster than Biden's VP at a Willie Brown lookalike convention.

169 Amy Acker bounced back quite nicely in Person of Interest, as Root. Great character, and her real-life husband was on the show as well as a minor character.

I doubt that Whedon would have lasted long if Acker was touched on the set. Her hubby looks like the kind of guy that would have chopped him into little pieces if she told him about it.

Maybe that's why her character got killed off in Angel; she wouldn't get on the casting couch and Whedon was pissed. She did have a leading role in Much Ado About Nothing, though, so maybe not.

Root, or Miss Groves as Harold called her, was a fascinating character in that she wasn't quite as brilliant as Finch but understood that he'd coded enough failsafes in the Machine to keep it from going off the rails if he let it continually develop instead of rebooting it every night. I wish CBS hadn't pulled the plug on the show.

Which minor character was her husband? The kid who Harold kept from committing suicide who ended up having his own software company specializing in compressed data storage?

This does play into what makes the #MeToo movement a joke that played out perfectly on Survivor. There was a guy being really weird and pretty handsy/touchy Biden level stuff with some of the females on the show. One girl was really uncomfortable about it all and kept bringing it up, and then 2 other girls said they agreed, and proceeded to use it to get her voted off the show and keep the creep on. 248 225 these comments just reinforce the idea that maybe Shakespeare was right, back in the day, and just use dudes to play the female roles.

Whedon changed the character Conrade in Much Ado from a male character to a female character with only a handful of pronoun changes and no other changes to the script. Not for the usual current reasons, but because the character worked better as a female, and given that Shakespeare had to work with a very limited number of female roles because he only had a few males who could portray females, and he already had 2 leading "ladies" in this one, Conrade very well could have been intended to be female.

I guess Whedon is a Republican now. Seriously though, he's been accused of being a creep, and given the current Hollywood climate he either has to go to court or shut up & walk small for a while. Right. Slut-shaming is pretty effective at controlling female behavior which in turn prevents a shitty environment from forming. It is entirely ineffective against men because the small group of male bad actors don't give a shit about 'shaming'. Much like the daft attempt to educate men about rape. You have a heterosexual male, in a position of power, and you surround him with nubile young females. And then you act all surprised when he behaves as though these unattached females are his personal property? What the hell else would you expect to happen?

If you don't want crap like this, marry the females off before putting them into acting, and have their husbands on set (on the books as paid security guards) to ride herd on any stone-age impulses from competitors. That'll make all the woman-related property rights very clear, protect the delicate flowers of womanhood, and help the more impulsive leadership types control their temptations. Everybody's happy.

Oh, except said delicate flowers can't then whore themselves out to power and then scream rape when power doesn't keep them around. Such a loss.

Joss Whedon did nothing wrong. Nor did Harvey Weinstein.

Remember what happened to then superstar Brendan Frasier when he went public with the fact he was sexually assaulted by a male producer?
--------
Brendan who? ;P But yeah, he's right. That's why it was such a big deal when the #1 Oscar-winning producer was publicly accused of sexual harassment. A lot of guys in Hollywood came up in the ranks watching how the game was played back in the day. And they decided that when they got to be in charge, they were gonna have the perks too. The popularity = wealth and career power quantification in Hollywood means women and minors are perpetually exploitable, and thus exploited.

299 Texas' power grid was in the last ten years the envy of the world. Enter wind power grift and we now have a system that has a 13-15% dependence on a variable source without sufficient redundancy. It is criminal.

300 Kevin McCarthy refuses to play hardball with Nanzi Pelosi. I recall when the Congressional Pharmacist made his suggestive comment saying he was surprised the older members (she is 80) could remember what day it was, given how much memory-assistance medication they are taking. McCarthy refused to attach that charge to Pelosi, even if everyone else did. "Comity" is more important to him, even if it is not to her.

I have many much bigger problems to think about, than another typical Hollywood Scandal from TWO DECADES ago.

Carpenter and others are speaking out now because of a recent case of Whedon being abusive on set -- in this case, toward a male actor in "Justice League."

That is, they are backing up recent claims, not simply deciding 'hey, it;s time to cash in on #metoo'.

303 Wikipedia:
News website Digital Spy released in early 2015 an interview they had conducted with Whedon, during which he criticized the entertainment industry for its "genuine, recalcitrant, intractable sexism, and old-fashioned quiet misogyny"

305 Nonsense.

Your wife or daughter or sister or mother is dealing with the EXACT SAME SHIT right now.

This isn't about 20 years ago, and this isn't about "if you don't like it you can just quit."

That's not how the world works, and you either know that or you don't.

The money was more valuable according to her. She's also not my "insert connection here". No reason for me to play captain save-a-ho. It sounds more like you don't know how the world works. There's not an unlimited license or claim by all women on male protection.

The wind turbines are all backed up by gas turbine generators fueled by natural gas. The fact that none are turning isn't why Texas is having power shortages. Two factors in play, one the extreme high demand caused by the cold weather, and damage to distribution lines for the same reason.

315 And in an inspiring sea change of public sentiment, the next day all actresses, pop singers, and celebutantes under 30 immediately quit slaving away in Pervwood, enduring the daily hypocritical abuse of male feminists in exchange for that 0.0001% chance shot at stardom.

Oh wait

317 I worked in the film business for years, I've seen this kind of behavior in "one" guy, a director, but it was over the top, total pig this guy, we eventually ran interference around him to protect our lady co-workers but it was kind of a shock to see this guy act so shamelessly. Karma eventually crushed him though...

318 This is another one of those things that had been public knowledge for years, but he was allowed to get away with it because he spouted the correct bullshit for the left, so he was protected and those he abused (Male and female) were instead ruined.

My hope from this is that Iggy Pop (Michelle's dad in Pete & Pete) hears about this and proceeds to beat the ever living shit out of Joss (actually let's hope a lot of people do, as through acquaintances I've always heard she's a very nice person)

319 I can't be arsed to read through the comments to see if anyone else has posted this, but:

It's been an open secret forever that Whedon is Carpenter's baby daddy.

Although Whedon gets all the credit, Marti Noxon was the actual driving force behind Buffy. Her newest show, unReal, is a stealth roman a clef about how Whedon stole the show from her. He was also banging Noxon, and any other starlet he could get his hands on.

320 One also has to wonder if this had anything to do with the extremely abrupt and brutal dispatching of Amber Benson's character Tara. Lot of lesbians were real pissed off about that, particularly after Willow went all world-destroying psycho over it.

321 They were going to continue Castle without Katic. Fillion had even issued a press release about her departure. Release said a lot of nice things, but Fillion's release speaks volumes by what it does NOT say.

Watch the last season and note how little time they were in the same camera shot. In a few big emotional scenes, when one of them is talking, you can tell that a body double is used for the other one.

Who knows what their relationship was at the end, and why. Maybe someday one or the other, or someone else in the know, will talk.
