Flame Wrench, FTW! I've got a compact barrel torch body, which is just perfect for *not* melting off a nut, unless you really want it to. But putting it through a couple heat/cool cycles can really break through the rust and get 'em turnin'. Gobbles up less gas in the doing, too.

I have thyroid issues and used only Kosher salt in cooking for decades. But in the modern American diet, Iodine deficiency is pretty rare. It would be nice if some Iodized salt could fix it, I wish that were so. I do use it sometimes for the hell of it, mostly if I am dissolving salt in water for pasta or the like. It is funny that you can really taste a difference if you get used to the non iodized stuff.

I friggin love tools. I had this idea for a store once. One half would be all women's fashion, clothes, purses, etc.. and the other half tools, but all sort of tools, hobby, automechanic, construction, machinist, more than what you would have at homedepot. So while the wives shopped the husbands would check out the power tools and stuff. In the middle would be a cafe.
I thought this through one of the many times I was stuck at a mall trying to figure out what to do with my self while my wife tried things on. And I know the whole idea is misogynistic as hell and would never be allowed.

I've got a plastic ball with something like a churn inside. You have to keep an insert in the freezer. When you're ready you put the ice cream ingredients in the insert, put the insert in the plastic ball, and then give the ball to some kids to roll around for a while until the ice cream is ready.

The Tool Commands bit at the end reminds me of yesterday, a day from Heel.
1st, I spilled water on my current use computer. Got it wiped and drained and did reboot. 2nd, I had to go out and get the plates of my wrecked vehicle to be towed that day, temp was 6 w/ feels like -10. One screw would not budge and rather than mess w/ it more I just tore the plate off. That worked!
Won't detail more, suffice it to say I drove our remaining vehicle thru the snowsrom by then. It's a 20 yr old Mustang that is worthless on ice and slick snow. We really needed dog food was why it couldn't wait. Lucky that made it w/out getting stuck. Crap day all around.

Everyone should make bacon. Use the buckboard bacon cure kit and some cheap boneless spare ribs for starters. Kind of meaty, but delicious, especially cooked in leftover lard. If you don't have a smoker, try some liquid smoke in the cure.

One time I went to an Einstein's Bagels for breakfast and ordered my usual turkey sausage with egg and cheese on a potato bagel. I like that their sausage is made from turkey, because I feel a little weird about putting pork on a bagel.

It isn't just that. When I was younger, you were a bit naive and idealistic in college and your early twenties. Then you got a real job and started paying taxes. You also noticed that there were people around who were lazy, criminal, or freeloaders. So, you became more realistic and more conservative.
What I see with some people in the generations younger than me, is that they hang onto their naive, liberal views. I think a lot of that is due to indoctrination from the media. I'm seeing this with most of my nephews and their wives. They're all for programs that promote laziness and freeloading. Of course, they make sure they don't live anywhere near the lazy freeloaders.

sitcoms were pretty weird back then. They went from laughter to extreme drama at the drop of a hat. That was a different show for sure. The last episode alone was about as dark as you can get.

Mine is editing. I mean other than the fact that I'm not a deranged idiot leftist, I would have been a great editor. I found errors in every book I read in college. And I don't only mean spelling or grammatical errors...
If the author contradicts a single sentence 300 pages later, it just jumps out at me. It has to be a combination of (what used to be) a great memory, and how my brain catalogs things. It's like I'm every author's nagging wife.
I do a small amount for friends, but otherwise I will never ever ever use it. Just wondering what untapped skills people think they have.

So what happens is the investigators will come up with an idea. Say to go look in a file in a basement somewhere. (Mind you this is the polar opposite of American shows, where someone - a minority woman or a gay - comes up with a brilliant idea to look at a file and five seconds later they've used the file to immediately catch the guy and then have a trial and he's convicted and another 30 seconds pass and it's the next day or whatever.)
So, anyway, they have this idea to get this file. Not only will they show the journey to the building where the file is, but they will show the detective having a conversation going into the building and down the stairs, meeting new people. Cue dramatic music as they turn on the lights, slowly approach the filing cabinet, open it and start flipping through different files.
After 45 minutes have passed, they have digested the file and then it's finally on to interviewing their new suspect. Cue dramatic journey to the suspect's house. Rinse, repeat. Very granular.

makes sense to me. I think there was a short monkey/orangutan phase. I also remember the ninja craze in Hollyweird that lasted a couple of years.
That reminds me of another Frasier episode. I guess people can tell i like Frasier. Anyway, there is the famous "monkey episode" I have seen people comment on the episode in podcasts etc. But to me the funniest part is they keep using different terms for the species. In a single episode they mention monkeys , apes, orangutans, etc. it is some pretty clever dialogue.

Well-prepared liver is yummy; ill-prepared, not so much.
I was in Greenland, at a rig site, and the cook and camp crew were all Greenlanders. Cook was about 6' 6" tall, too. And a Euro-trained chef.
The steam table had a tray with slabs of meat in gravy, and onions. Looked like liver and onions; smelled like liver and onions. So I took a slab, and commenced chowing down on it. Tasted like liver and onions, too. One of the other hands said, "Do you know what you are eating?" I replied, "Liver and onions, it appears." "No, you're eating whale. Local hunters killed a pilot whale, and sold some meat to the camp." Me, "Oh, well, it's damned good whale, then. I'm going to have seconds." And I did.

He loved children's books, and he was a little embarrassed about it for a long time. But one day he decided it was time to put away childish things... and he was specifically thinking about his fear of people judging him for his tastes.
So, he started proudly telling people he loved children's books, and you know what? For the most part. they didn't think less of him at all. If anything, they respected him more for being so enthusiastic about something. The few people who did lose respect for him, eh, they weren't really worth bothering with, anyway.

I like to use an electric welder to free stuck, or broken-off bolts. Normally the MIG welder, but for very large bolts, a stick welder would work fine. Even bolts broken off below the surface of the threaded part can be released. Basically, one builds a little pinnacle of weld metal on the broken face of the bolt; when the pinnacle gets big enough, place a nut over it, and weld the nut to the pinnacle. Let it cool. Wrench on the nut. Most likely, the pinnacle will break free of the bolt. Simply repeat the exercise as many times as needed. The repeated heat/cool cycles act to crush rust crystals between the hot (and therefore expanded) bolt, and the cooler part, into which it was threaded.

Got a smithing question for you. A friend asked me to try to fix a S&W model 10 revolver, made maybe 1960-something. The cylinder does not advance when the trigger is pulled, or when the hammer is cocked; well, it does sometimes.
Anyway, I found the problem. The hand torsion spring is missing completely. Plain not there, and not rattling around inside, either. Gone.
Now, for the question: there are two types of this spring, one for the forged trigger, and one for the MIM trigger. Brownells has them. Question is, which trigger does this gun have? My inclination is to order both springs, which are very cheap, and use the one that fits. One has a straight end to seat in the trigger, and one has a 90-degree "L" shape on that end. Whole thing is about a half-inch long.

Thank you, Jim. This poor thing is heavily pitted by rust on some exterior surfaces, but barrel seems fine. And wooden grips slightly warped. Owner thinks it might have buried for a while. All now heavily blacked. Parkerized?
I figured it was probably a forged trigger, based on a yutube vid I saw, but was not certain.

I'd wager that it's Muffler Paint or some other "heat proof" spray from a can. Work your paint stripping magic, and see what remains after. We can't fix the pitting, but we can certainly see to it that it gets a proper Dura-Coat or similar finish to launch it into a 2nd century of service.

If it looks like it, it probably is. Taking it down to bare steel, even with soda-blasting, is permittable here. There is NO collector's value remaining, but you can make a HANDSOME shooter of it, again.
My grips are a $75 + shipping set. Near perfect condition. But they do not cover the bottom of the frame, you'll see the frame perimeter around the entire profile. Like I said, Factory Original.
Both Cerakote (preferred) and Dura Kote, make a "factory blue" tint, that comes pretty damn close to being the right finish. And if the pitting is THAT dorked? Go with a Coyote Tan, Desert Bronze or Flat Dark Earth. It'll never look "original". But it'll look GOOD.

total Lucky Charms rip off, but pretty good to be honest. I normally can't go for that much sugar. It is normally Kaboom or Raisin Bran. Only in small doses mind you, the bacon and eggs are the real stars.
That is one thing that annoys me about all these fasting "experts". They all say skip breakfast. Screw that, I like breakfast and it is the cheapest meal of the day. I can skip a dinner or two and have breakfast instead.

I hear ya and do understand the meaning of the term. But we have been conditioned over life times to eat certain foods at certain times. When Westerners see what many others eat in the morning they are repelled, mainly over the time of day. But I do understand your point. We also had breakfast foods like eggs and bacon at night on occasion growing up. There are many ways to do this thing, there is no one correct way.

Lol....that was the intended reference. On a similar note, in my international deployed environment, the dining facility has large pots of warm milk available at breakfast. I haven't experimented with it much, but a fellow officer has been using it on the Muselix that's also offered, and said it's great.
Back in the US, he never liked it because it was hard, but the warm milk softens it up just a little more, and enhances the flavor a bit, making it a completely different experience. I usually skip breakfast, so I may have to make an exception and give it a try.

I remember during the Clinton impeachment, Henry Hyde was delivering his remarks and alluding to all kinds of history. I still remember the line he quoted from de Gaulle. He said, "France can not be true to itself, unless it is involved in some great enterprise". I always liked that line, though I never thought much of De Gaulle or any French leaders. The line has been translated differently, into a more succinct version, but I still recall that line he said all those years ago.
For sure France thinks too much of itself. It is an also ran that thinks it is our equal. But at least they still care, that counts for something.

A college perfesser was once waxing eloquently in class about knit sweaters made from recycled milk jug plastic. Not necessarily a bad idea, but they were $150 or something like that. Been looking for weeks for a socket storage rack for in the garage. Everything I looked at either was too clunky, didn't hold the sockets well, or just didn't seem right.
Then I wound up in of all places, the store where every serious tool owner shops for tools.
WalMart.
Yeh, you read that right, Walmart. And they have a series of 12" long socket rails with revolving clips to allow one to turn the socket on the rail, to see the size, AND an actual spring loaded detent ball on each clip to retain each socket.
And on top of that, the 1/4' and 3/8 inch clips are mixable and interchangeable on the individual rails. I never would have expected to find something that works this well at WalMart. But, there you go.
