I dunno about you, but I thought that was fun. Meanwhile, the FBI got snookered. They should know better than to just grab any image off the internet for official business. That said, I think this is excellent for the defense if it comes to that, it's obviously an altered image. I actually knew Erie and his wife 30 years ago. My daughter and his sons were in school together for six years. When he's working in LA, he lives in the San Bernardino Mountains. I judge him not on his roles (though I think he's a terrific actor) but on his character. He seemed to be a terrific father.

Posted by: JebPilled at February 05, 2021 10:29 PM (QUqEV) I had the same reaction. Did not watch anything before buying the game. Just bought and played it. Before they started trying to 'fix' it, everything worked fine on my PC. Graphics were good, seemed like a well realized city that did not have the empty feeling a lot of open world games do. The quest lines were the most intentional I have ever seen put forward in a game (able to be solved different ways and in ways that are not even mentioned in the quest itself.) The ending was a bit muddled, but it was kind of an odd set up to begin with. Posted by: Aetius451AD at February 05, 2021 10:33 PM (lmikk) 51

Plummer played Scrooge in the movie "The Man who Invented Christmas". The story of how Charles Dickens wrote his book " A Christmas Carol ". For a couple of decades SEALS have vacuumed up most of the press, good or bad, as far as SF reportage and glories. Folks don't realize that Green Beret's mission, though fully capable and embracing kinetic action, is largely liaison, training, alliance-forming, medical and generally keeping a local population on OUR side, vs. the enemy. That said? We damn near NEVER hear a peep from nor about the Army's Delta Force. Which tells me their discipline and focus is TIGHT. Really, these days, the equivalent to those crappy alternative newspapers and magazines are 4chan memes and online strips like the ones posted above. Its a new 60s, where the establishment is trying to stomp on the rebels but the cool is slipping away from them despite controlling everything. What we need is a new British Invasion to flip the youth and give them something to love that the establishment despises.

I thought that England in Shakespere's day considered prostitutes and actors pretty much interchangeable.
It was that way in the US and England up to around 1910. And honestly the line was pretty blurred: actors were people who'd do anything for money and would it exactly shock you if you could buy a night with, say, Margot Robie? I mean the sum would be pretty high but its likely doable. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at February 06, 2021 12:05 AM (KZzsI) 298

I think part of the reason actors and actresses had such bad reps up through the 1910s, is that most of them were with *traveling* performance groups.
It was easy for good-looking actors and actresses in the troupe to seduce people and, as soon as things got at all sticky, move on to the next town 100 miles away or so. Hollywood likely changed that; acting types could come to *one* location, Southern California, and work continuously, so long as they knew how to network (and party down) as well as act. (There was always Broadway too, but as far as I know, it's always been a very small/closed club of people who could ever get work there. Plus it was always smack in the heart of the den of iniquity, NYC.) Posted by: qdpsteve at February 06, 2021 12:11 AM (L2ZTs) 311

345 Been a difficult day, avoiding the depressing posts.
Yeah, the whole week really sucked, at least for me. And I'm not even including the DC nonsense. That crap would send me to the moon. I'm mostly ignoring it. And I notice I am watching a lot more reruns of 40 and 50 year old shows. The acting is dated, but still pretty good for the most part. And the news? Well, find me a TV outlet that isn't Progda approved, and I'll watch it. OANN is not on cable around here, only computer access. And NewsMax, they just crashed and burned with the Mike Lyndell incident. This Sunday, I'll be DVR'ing 6 episodes of The Untouchables "starring ROBERT STACK!" as Walter Winchell proclaims. I'll watch them over the week. The Super Bowl? Probably go over to a friends house, mainly for the company, not the game. Posted by: LeftCoast Dawg at February 06, 2021 12:33 AM (sy5kK) 340
Went for a nice long walk today. Didn't plan it that way, but that's how it all worked out. Drove to the barber shop at 11:00, got a haircut. Car failed to start upon my leaving. Messed around with it, determined it was getting fuel OK. Then I found it had no spark. Popped off the distributor cap. Hmmm, points stay closed while I crank it. Whip out the Swiss army knife, use screwdriver to set points, finally get spark from coil wire when I crank, but battery is pretty weak by then. Try to start, fires once, but battery won't crank it, and starter sounds labored.
Call a friend to come give me a boost, or a tow start. He gets there, and I said, "watch this. Now that you are here, it will start right up." And that's exactly what happened! "Well, that was easy. You don't need me here. See you later." So, I drove home, pulled the distributor, because it's easier to remove the points while it's on the bench. They were burned blue, so I filed them, replaced them, set the gap, and lubricated the areas that needed lubrication. I was on the point of putting it back in, when it occurred to me that this was the time to take the starter out, and service it, (continued) Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at February 06, 2021 12:34 AM (mzC78) 341

Posted by: Thrawn at February 06, 2021 12:36 AM (AUfiu) They're already being sued. I think it's in Polish court but not 100% sure of the details, only that it's an investor suit related to the stock price tanking. Also, the Poles apparently have a consumer-protection agency and they've inserted themselves in the equation, which is hilarious. Not that I expect much to come of it. ...So I pulled the starter out, and opened it up, and sure enough, there were clear signs the armature had been dragging on the field poles. The intermediate bushing was worn right out, and the drive end bushing was a little worn. Commutator end is fine.
So I stuffed the worn bushings in my pocket, and walked about a mile to the NAPA store. They had the drive-end bushing, so I bought that. No intermediate bushing (which is identical to the commutator end bushing, little oilite bronze sleeves). Walked across the street to Auto Zone. Nope, they don't have them. Walked about a mile further east to O'Reilly's. They knew what it was, and the computer said 4 in stock, but they were not there. Counterman said probably the last customer got the whole box of five, instead of a single bushing. Walked across the parking lot to Shopper's Supply, because they have a good hardware department. Lo! and Behold! They had a 3/4 X 5/8 X 1" oilte bushing for $2.29. I can saw it in half and have two of what I need. Ka-ching! @362 What's really sad about CDPR is that they had an awesome reputation prior to Cyberpunk 2077. What happened???
-------------- They probably got too big too quickly. They were a small company that hit gold with the Witcher series. And then they got overly ambitious with Cyberpunk. There's also a lot of suspicion that they got a bit too focused on their hire of Keanu Reeves, and ended up dumping a bunch of stuff that they were working on for the game at the last minute in order to put more focus on him. Hey AK.
Got more snow Thurs nite. Friday morning the temp dropped. It's 7 degrees now. Heat wave! Below zero temps for the overnites the next few days. Posted by: My life is insanity at February 06, 2021 04:23 AM (Z/jzm) 462
It does feel like a heat wave when the temps have been below 0 and then rise, doesn't it? Even if it's less than 10.

Posted by: My life is insanity at February 06, 2021 04:31 We had sunshine today, but bad winds. I've learned how to bundle myself. Been clearing the ice on sidewalk and drive and cleaning out the car that is most likely totaled. Today's ensemble...wife beater t-shirt, flannel shirt, heavy Irish cardigan, then insulated flannel shirt/jacket. It works when it is 12, stupid wind chill was -2. Was actually comfortable. Posted by: Skip at February 06, 2021 05:19 AM (Cxk7w) It's evidently a meme picture common on one of the chans. It is a nude black guy that gets inserted into all sorts of pictures. It shows that the photo has been 'enhanced/shopped.' Posted by: Aetius451AD at February 06, 2021 05:24 AM (lmikk) 485

We never got the rain/ice but heavy wet snow 1st before the wind picked up mand temp dropped. The plow came through late- after I left for work- and Mr. I waited too long to clear it, so when I and yongest son got home we had some serious chiseling of cement-like snow to get off the end of driveway.
