Last spring I straddled a tiny fawn with my front wheels, and saw the little thang crawling out ... stopped for it to get away or it would have been crushed by the real wheels. A concerned mom came running over to meet him. -- A day later it happened again with an even tinier fawn, but this one didn't move ... thought I may have hit it, but I lifted him up and he was able to walk away. Usually they are well hidden ... mom needs to teach these two not to lay down in the road.

And just as I post, I see the gray cat (gray with white feet and a white splotch on the side) who is feral/stray #4 (of 4, so far) show up to look for some eats. It is definitely a fraidy cat since all I did was tap on the window and look down at it (about 35 to 40 ft away) and it trotted off. Two of them will actually stare back at me for awhile. Posted by: washrivergal at February 01, 2021 07:37 PM (YfDWa) They're not great. Especially if you microwave them. If you cook them in an oven or toaster oven, they become mediocre. Add a fuckton of Franks hot sauce, and they're acceptable. But, they're cheap and easy to make. They only take 23 minutes in a toaster oven, which isn't too bad, and the only steps are turn on toaster oven, open freezer, remove hot pocket, take hot pocket out of plastic, and throw it in the toaster oven. Then close the freezer, throw the plastic on the counter to "clean up later", and set the iphone timer. Posted by: Harry Paratestes at February 01, 2021 07:40 PM (UPoLF) 57

Welp as expected, in a typically poorly written article by Rupert's monkeys, preliminary reports indicate that Ashli Babbitt's murderer, who wasn't identified, won't be charged with anything. She was unarmed and wasn't endangering anybody so it takes quite an imagination to call that a righteous shoot.

Wicker came back to the house with a very pleased look on her face. Lol. Cats. A week or so ago, after watching the video with the recordable buttons that a cat was trained to push when he/she wanted things, we decided to get them for our male cat. It took the cat in the video three months to use the buttons. Our cat tried it in less than a week. Did it stick? I don't know. But soon, I might be the minion of a big orange cat. /also, in the video, the cat's favorite word was "mad." that is not an option here. Posted by: shibumi at February 01, 2021 07:49 PM (tjZg/) 96

As to microwaves, I love them. When you are gone for 12 hours, come home, tired, all you have to do is put a plate of food in the microwave for 3 to 4 minutes--a homemade meal that you have prepared ahead of time. So while you are changing your clothes, your food is heating. No other cooking on the stove or oven. No pots, pans, knives or spoons to clean. My gf des and it disturbs me greatly. Posted by: Count de Monet in exile at his Fortress of Solitude at February 01, 2021 07:52 PM (4I/2K) Mine go up on the breakfast bar - it is one of the 2 eating stations. I don't use it myself. They don't move any closer. I have had other cats that liked to jump to the top of the fridge from the counter, but hardly touch the counter. I don't have a big table but often that is just used because it is a high safe point. If you put a cat tree or special chair, you can usually get them to use it instead. If it bothers you, you could just put a towel down on the surface and pull it up when you use it for food prep. Some cats love to watch what is going on, but often if you give them an approved place (like the fridge top) you can nudge the behavior your way without a lot of fuss. If the cat is addicted to scraps it may be harder, unless you give the same or more scraps at an approved site instead. Posted by: Oldcat at February 01, 2021 07:59 PM (eoQWY) 154

Cats don't jump up on the counters. One sometimes jumps up on the dining room table if there's no food there-but gets quickly shooed down. He gets evil looks if he even looks like he's thinking of it when we have dinner.
The other cat is too old to do much jumping except that she jumps up on the couch when we have morning prayer time or will go on laps. I think she more likes the electric blanket than that she's particularly devout. but she did jump up in a chair beside me when I used to play hymns on the computer. In my experience with cats, they do whatever the fuck they want.
When I lived with my ex, we had 2 cats (well, she had two cats, but somehow they became my responsibility), and while they knew they were not supposed to go on the counter, they did it whenever they wanted and didnt care if I yelled at them. Sometimes they'd break a glass or something by throwing it off the counter just to be dicks. You must dominate them. Animals belong outside, even humans that act like animals don't get indoor privileges. I caught a family member's cat that had a habit of marking rooms in the house. So I snagged the cat in the act, threw it in its litter box and proceeded to heavily urinate on the cat. It just sat in the box and took it. Never marked the house again. An unnamed Capitol police officer claimed that the officer who shot Babbitt was the last line of defense against the mob getting into the congressional offices. Which is what they are using as the reason their should be no charges. DOJ has not been briefed on their recommendations yet. Washington Police Department is who conducted the investigation. Apparently Capitol police have no duty like most LEOs to warn someone to stop advancing. Just move forward and point blank shoot someone in the head as they are crawling through a broken inside window.

I liked that guy who does the weird medieval weapons podcast then I heard his woke take on the Civil War. For example, you can tell that the war was all about defending slavery because 10% of the Confederate Army? Army of Northern Virginia? owned slaves and the rest wanted to so just forget all that states' right crap.

Fun fact: Minneapolis PD blasted a white lady who was trying to report a crime a couple of years before the George Floyd shooting. But it didn't fit the media narrative since the races were flipped, so the story got buried.
Posted by: CppThis at February 01, 2021 08:28 PM (zcf1k) More fun fact, that officer was Muslim, and the city had patted themselves on the back for hiring him. Used ones are really cheap if you want to risk it, but most of them are under $10 shipped new, especially if there has been a "rereleae" or "remaster" which you can usually skip if you really don't need to hear the songs recorded at the same time that weren't judged good enough to make the album

Maybe not the most humane way to do it. Mike Rowe did his TED talk on peripeteia and anagnorisis, and
discussed that just cutting the balls off of a lamb was much more humane that using a band on the balls. Posted by: jim (in Kalifornia) at February 01, 2021 08:58 PM (ynpvh) That TED Talk was all you need to know about PETA. Posted by: Schnorflepuppy at February 01, 2021 09:44 PM (1uBGK) 495

jim, Basque sheepherders just bit the balls off of the lambs. True.
Heck, Mike Rowe did that on a "Dirty Jobs" show. He defended it in a TED talk. Posted by: Javems at February 01, 2021 09:18 PM They actually demonstrated to Rowe that the "new" way is way more painful, long, and stresses the lambs more than the old way. So he did the old way on his show. Posted by: Oldcat at February 01, 2021 09:45 PM (eoQWY) Posted by: four seasons at February 01, 2021 09:45 PM (PisyI) 500

Daughters of Diogenes are great women, and good mothers today. But back in their teen years I sat them both down and in a quiet room reached over and slammed the door. Each stared at me. I told each one that if they got pregnant, that was the sound of so many possibilities of their futures being closed to them. Posted by: Diogenes at February 01, 2021 09:48 PM (axyOa) 507

I took two doses of ivermectin (the apple flavored paste for horses). I had some diahrea a 4 or 5 days after the first dose. But it could have been spicy food. I feel great and I don't see the squigglies when I close my eyes. Maybe I had a parasite or two.

Mom has been getting an earful from my sisters about staying safe and getting vaccinated. The siblings aren't happy that Milady and I don't wear masks when we visit her, but they're hundreds of miles away, so pthbbbtt.
Mom chose to get the the Pfizer vac. After the first shot, she just had a bit of a sore arm the next day. She is taking the 2nd dose on Wednesday. Milady and I usually go visit her on Saturdays, but we will be heading down to see her on Wednesday. Just in case. One of Mom's helpers asked me if I would get the vac. I said, not with a gun to my head. (Exaggeration for emphasis - I might yield to a gun.) Younger sis admits she's a "germaphobe," following all the guidelines, wiping down everything like groceries out in the garage, changing clothes when she comes home. And the shots. Well, she, her long-time guy, and her younger son all just got the Kung Phlu. Her elder son was visiting my Mom (masked all the time). Mom said to him, how is it that [younger sis & fam] followed all the directions and got sick anyway, but [Webworker & Milady] don't do any of that and are fine? She's pretty sharp, for being in her 11th decade.

Y'all, the COVID-19 "vaccines" are no such thing.
Vaccine has a precise medical definition. The COVID-19 drugs are some kind of experimental, mRna gene therapy, brought to you by Big Pharma. They're still in trial phase, under emergency authorization. Everyone who takes those drugs is a guinea pig. If you want to lose sleep, check out the Gates Foundation involvement in the WHO's stealth sterilizing campaign in Kenya. Legit tetanus vaccine with an undisclosed enzyme payload that causes miscarriage and/or infertility. Posted by: callsign claymore at February 01, 2021 10:19 PM (KAd8D) 526
