My preferred strategy while living in the frozen north was 'wait until spring... this shit will melt eventually'.

Now, my main worry is if the golf course will be 'cart path only'* in the winter.

We've had it pretty easy this winter until last week.
But this latest isn't as bad as I expected. They were all over the place with accumulation predictions. Anywhere from 4 to 12 inches. They are already plowing the side streets at 5 a.m., so no real reason for complaints.

There was some politician who got two doses of vaccine and tested positive for coronavirus. I assume he tested positive for having the - let's call them spores - spores present in his nostrils. Which means he inhaled the spores somewhere, and could then exhale and send those same spores out into another room and infect others.

So one might assume that by wearing a mask he would limit his ability to expose himself to inhaling spores. Also by wearing a mask, he would limit the spores in his nostrils from being ejected into another persons space.

The answer of course, is for all of you to get inoculated. Fortunately, I already had the corona so in my opinion that's better protection than any phony-baloney imitation. YMMV

Somewhere in the last year everybody lost their minds on this shit. Number one, virtually everyone will be exposed to this particular virus. It cannot be avoided. We were told that we needed "2 weeks" of a complete lockdown to prevent the hospitals from being overwhelmed by a huge slug of humanity exposed all at once.

Number two - now everyone seems to think that they simultaneously must avoid ever being exposed to this particular virus (not possible) AND, that it is practically an automatic death sentence if they get it.

It is deadly, it does kill people. Very similar to many flu viruses have throughout history. It may kill me too, I dunno. This is all bullshit, the reaction, the hysteria.

Friday my BiL's mother passed away and had a graveside funeral, got to my sister's house about 15 people waiting to leave almost everyone had on masks. Outside at funeral it was 25 degrees and windy and everyone but me had one though probably helped in cold.
Afterwards back at my sister's everyone slowly lost them as we were eating except my 20 something sjw nephew who I think never took it off.

As a by-product of combustion, kerosene heaters put out a lot of moisture into the air. I have a 10,000 btu unit I use in the one room we like to keep really, really toasty in the winter. I turn that on in the morning for about an hour to get the temp and humidity high, then let a 5,000 btu electric heater take over to maintain the temp.

Then we are to drive to Baltimore for another load of our stuff, and our cat.

Now Baltimore is to get up to a foot of snow, ending maybe late Tuesday.
The old neighborhood is all row homes with minimal parking, that turns into a bunker mentality on the streets with any snow fall.

I think that is what I said. Former smokers sure, as they were likely already in poorer health. But the nicotine as a defense idea popped up and then go squashed. I gave one link but there are hundreds to choose from. My guess is it didn't work but even if it did, can anyone see the government proposing nicotine use?

Regarding sea turtles and masks... a could have sworn I saw a photo, maybe shopped, maybe not... that was a turtle being held by someone and it had about half dozen old, decomposing masks wrapped around it's neck.

If I recall... the paper part of the mask decomposes pretty fast, but it leaves the rest looking like a big mis-shaped rubberband.

My understanding is these covid vaccines are not the type of vaccine most of us associate with the word "vaccine" ... those vaccines such as for smallpox, polio, and measles, etc that create an immunity to the disease. The covid vaccine lessens the effect of the disease. So you can still get covid, but not suffer the cytokine storm it produces. And since you can still get the disease, you can still be a transmitter of the disease. Soooo, that thing that was so scary about the disease in the beginning... that people not showing symptoms were infecting others, has actually been heightened by the vaccine. btw, having had the disease apparently doesn't give you lifetime immunity to it either. Best guess by the "experts" is that you will have approximately 90 days of immunity from reinfection. Sounds to me like the human race is pretty much screwed.

My mom and her elderly husband got the first shot this past week. They had blurred vision and nausea. Their doctor recommended eye drops and both symptoms went away. Nausea for me is often induced by vision symptoms; so it made sense. They get their second shot near the end of February. I ain't gettin' it, but y'all go right ahead.
