The first estimate I had for a redo was $98,000. I am not kidding. This place is nice but it isn't the Taj Mahal.
The third was much more reasonable. And the builder is letting me do the demo, framing, electrical and paint to keep costs down. Still $$ though.

My Friday night is spent lying in bed with a pizza (NOT a 2x2x cheese pizza), reading the ONT, and trying to keep the dog away from the pizza box. He's pretending to sleep but keeps nudging closer. Kinda like me and boobs when giving a backrub.

No, I can't find /22LR, but luckily, I already found it a few times, a few years ago. And store it properly.
At the TXMome, Eromero supplied a box he purchased a few days earlier, it was the only stuff he could find at any price. Some off-brand, it FTF'ed about half the time. He finally tossed it. Luckily, I had brought a box of 375 Federal 36gr hollow points from the stash at home.
People at the pistol tables didn't know how close to a disaster the afternoon could have been.

That is probably a big part of it. It's also very freeing. I'm in a house 1/3 of the size of our family home before my husband died, and I've become used to letting excess things go. I did the basement last year, and now I'm organizing every file, drawer and closet in the upper floors. Every time I take stuff to the donation center I want to do cartwheels afterward.

Sorry if this is a repeat, but it looks like I have an at least part-time job. It's in my field and when they saw my resume they were anxious to have me. I'm considered an independent contractor but that can be accommodated all right. How much work I do depends on how much they get asked, but at least they're the ones who rustle up business and not me.
The pay is an hourly rate which is not much less than that when I was working full-time. So it may work out well.

I have a massive apron front farm sink in the kitchen, it's literally the only thing design wise me and wife agreed 120 pct on.

That made me laugh. When I finally went to sell the house, had to pull up the carpet and put down gray, had to strip all the wallpaper off the walls and paint off white, had to change out most of hte light fixtures but I think the appliances stayed.

Our current house was built in 1959. It had beautiful linoleum floor in the kitchen, dining room, and back living room. The pattern was of little brownish colored squares. It was until a family friend cleaned it with ammonia, which basically chemically burned the linoleum.
Had all of it replaced with heated porcelain tile. Nice and toasty on the feet.

The house I live in was built in 1952. In 1969 or 70 (I know it was then because I was three years old and actually remember it), my dad and grandfather completely remodeled our kitchen.
It was beautiful. Only problem? It's now 2021 and my mom STILL has those cabinets and furnishings. They're really showing their age at this point, although thankfully they're also still durable.

Salty, now that you mention it, that's about the right timeframe. I remember in 2000 working as Director of Sales in a software company, and to my surprise (accidently) I found out that I was the only corporate leader that was really pro-USA and not "European" in my thinking. Maybe 7 or 8 years later, at a large neighborhood gathering a few miles away, sitting around talking. I only knew maybe 20% of these people. Lots of people there were openly hostile to pro-US concepts and history. Funny what strangers will say after you get a few glasses of wine in them. Ironic that they lived in what were then 900k+ houses, which are more like 2M houses today.
It opened my eyes to what is very apparent today, that many living in the US dislike or openly despise this country. And they have been the most successful financially.

Latest CAT scan at the end of December showed all tumors about 60% smaller that when I started ( I've got 4 small places about 1MM in size 2 on left lung and 2 on liver) and no new spots. Blood tumor marker is now 1.6 (Down from a high of 70, and well in the normal range for adult non-smoker, which is 3.5)

Sounds like a question for Miklos.
I worked with a VP once who would put a "Hungarian" on a work team whenever possible. Her explanation was that Hungarian has very little in common with the languages around it, so a "Hungarian" was a person from a completely different work function or organization who would (intentionally) know little about what the team did, hence the team could avoid groupthink because the Hungarian would ask questions and question inherent assumptions.

I think it's a lot simpler than that. I think they are afraid of (1) men and (2) firearms, and they know we have both in a much greater quantity than they do.
I've often observed that these people get away with their loads of crap only because we value peace through the rule of law more than we dislike what they have to offer. The thing is, I think they know that at some level, too. I think they fear us because they know that if they go too far, we loosen our restraint upon ourselves, and in the end, we are stronger than they are.

Now, Clusterfuck Mk II kicks in. Once back at the house here, I try and try, and try to get a Westjet agent on the phone to rebook the flight. They are quoting 3-4 hour delays to answer calls. Because the reservation code expired for my planned flight, I cannot rebook it online myself. Finally, I said "Fuck It!" and booked a new, unrelated one-way flight from PHX to YYC. A whole $88! Next Friday, same time, same flight number. Book a new WuFlu test, because old one is now stale-dated.
Call home to the lady who is boarding the dog, to let her know I will be a week late. She says dog is fine as can be, and that I might want to rethink coming home next week, (next post)

Makeup and hair can work miracles on camera. The only thing that they look for these days is high cheek bones, no double chin, and skinny. There is no beauty in that. Many runway high fashion models are downright ugly. So she fits right in. On the other hand, she is cross-eyed. That just doesn't fly in the modeling world. My son was cross eyed and we did major surgery to correct.
And the pit hair is just gross. I hate the modeling and fashion world with a passion.

Well, thanks. I do have to say that the Westjet booking counter supervisor did her best, and was very nice to deal with. The medical lab is the dog in the manger here, but Westjet Corporate sure cannot be praised for laying off so many people that their service suffers. I actually said to the supervisor, "it's people like you that cause me to say Westjet is the least-worst option if you simply must fly". She took it well.
And the lab really did fuck me around. Had I made the flight today, I would have escaped the hotel quarantine requirement, and gotten in under the old rules, 14 days quarantine at home, which is no hardship for me.

I noticed something curious here yesterday. Two days ago, Four Peaks was entirely enveloped in snow, and the higher levels of Superstition Mountain were lightly snow-covered. Yesterday, and even this morning, the upper peaks of Four Peaks were bare of snow, but the lower areas still white. I am guessing low-level cloud shielded the lower slopes from being melted by the Sun, but the peaks got full Sun and melted?

30 years ago, tonight, I was sitting on a Destroyer in the Persian Gulf, that had major damage. We had lost power during an Underway replenishment, and run into the ship we were resupplying for, days before.
We were running on emergency cables, run throughout the ship, and we had less than HALF the speed available that we normally would have, as our Sonar Dome was trashed (sits on the bow of the ship).
So, during Storm, I was on a damaged ship, that still performed its duty... I guess the movie hit home more than I realized at the time.

Which is exactly what I have done here. I have counters that are mis-matched, color-wise, but have the same profile. Scuff 'em down with 400-grit sandpaper, and spray some melamine paint, and then they will be the same.
There is exactly zero upside to putting a $20000 dollar kitchen into a 1965 mobile home.

the LA/Oxnard NWS main page has a interactive map on it, which allows you to drill down to any level you want: i have a localized forecast set right on top of our house, and it's pretty damn accurate. accuracy goes up, natch, the close you get to the day in question, but it's handy, and you can create a separate tab for any regular destination you have.

i'm aware of that, hence the ability to have various tabs for various localized locations. can't hurt, might help.
we haven't been to the ranges recently, and the hunting club was shut down by the enviro-nazis, but i had localized forecasts for all the locations we frequented. no sense going to shoot sporting clays, trap or skeet if the wind is howling, and, if it hasn't rained recently, the dogs won't be able to pick up the scent.
