Everything And The Kitchen Sink ONT

Hmmm, what to lead off with? Ahh yes, the sink. I could probably just leave it at this and call it an ONT, I've seen posts hundreds of comments long with people just arguing about this sink. So, for your edification, I give you: The Sink.

The first estimate I had for a redo was $98,000. I am not kidding. This place is nice but it isn't the Taj Mahal.

The third was much more reasonable. And the builder is letting me do the demo, framing, electrical and paint to keep costs down. Still $$ though.

Husband says "cool, I'll cut the counter back through that cabinet to the right, shrink that bottom one to single-width, and you can use the remaining area for the drying rack."

Wife says "no way, buster. I need every existing cubic inch of storage, and every existing square inch of counter. I'm not remodeling this room to have *less* utility. Keep it all and I want the double-basin."

Husband shrugs and says "fine, you lunatic. I can't bend the laws of physics, so I'll bend this countertop instead."

269 I've resized about a dozen cabinets in various houses, mine and others'. Usually, to make the over the range cabinet have fewer inches of height and drop, so as to better accommodate an over-stove microwave & vent combo. Yeah, it can be a bit complex, but it's really just three components towards the whole. The cabinet box, the facings and the door(s). Doors are the most challenging to get right. But if you've got a good pocket-screw jig and can measure accurately, it's more painstaking than it is "impossible".

I'm considered an independent contractor but that can be accommodated all right. How much work I do depends on how much they get asked, but at least they're the ones who rustle up business and not me.

Salty, now that you mention it, that's about the right timeframe. I remember in 2000 working as Director of Sales in a software company, and to my surprise (accidently) I found out that I was the only corporate leader that was really pro-USA and not "European" in my thinking. Maybe 7 or 8 years later, at a large neighborhood gathering a few miles away, sitting around talking. I only knew maybe 20% of these people. Lots of people there were openly hostile to pro-US concepts and history. Funny what strangers will say after you get a few glasses of wine in them. Ironic that they lived in what were then 900k+ houses, which are more like 2M houses today.
It opened my eyes to what is very apparent today, that many living in the US dislike or openly despise this country. And they have been the most successful financially.

I worked with a VP once who would put a "Hungarian" on a work team whenever possible. Her explanation was that Hungarian has very little in common with the languages around it, so a "Hungarian" was a person from a completely different work function or organization who would (intentionally) know little about what the team did, hence the team could avoid groupthink because the Hungarian would ask questions and question inherent assumptions.

OK, I found a group here in AJ that gives free WuFlu testing on a drive-thru basis. They texted me: your test is negative. I said, "I need a printed report to give to the airline." "OK, go back to where they took the sample." I got the printed report.

447 They are afraid of us precisely because ...
1) they bullied us in grade school, and we did not bend 2) they bullied us in middle school and we kinda sorta kicked their ass 3) they tried to bully us in high school, and got their nuts force fed to them via enema 4) they tried again in college, and were pointed at an publicly embarrassed 5) as adults they are censoring us, and discovering that we know where they live, and that we are unmoved.

Hell yes they are scared. They caught the tiger's tail, and cannot let loose.

I think it's a lot simpler than that. I think they are afraid of (1) men and (2) firearms, and they know we have both in a much greater quantity than they do.

I've often observed that these people get away with their loads of crap only because we value peace through the rule of law more than we dislike what they have to offer. The thing is, I think they know that at some level, too. I think they fear us because they know that if they go too far, we loosen our restraint upon ourselves, and in the end, we are stronger than they are.

456 Go back to Westjet counter. After 20 minutes, e-mail finally lands in Westjet supervisor's smartphone. She downloads it to a printer, and prints it, and the stupid dumb fucks at the lab sent the unamended report, with no date on it!. I try, and try to get back to the lab, and nobody picks up the phone. I must have heard the entire Vangelis catalog, as played by the Florence State Prison swynet and bugle corps, four times. Deadline passes for getting a boarding pass, so I miss the flight, no fault of my own.

Now, Clusterfuck Mk II kicks in. Once back at the house here, I try and try, and try to get a Westjet agent on the phone to rebook the flight. They are quoting 3-4 hour delays to answer calls. Because the reservation code expired for my planned flight, I cannot rebook it online myself. Finally, I said "Fuck It!" and booked a new, unrelated one-way flight from PHX to YYC. A whole $88! Next Friday, same time, same flight number. Book a new WuFlu test, because old one is now stale-dated.

Call home to the lady who is boarding the dog, to let her know I will be a week late. She says dog is fine as can be, and that I might want to rethink coming home next week, (next post)

459 ...because flaming faggot fucktard Trudeau has now imposed a mandatory 3-4 day quarantine on returning travelers, who now have to spend 3 or 4 days in a government-approved hotel (at their own expense), and undergo two further WuFlu tests, before being released to spend the next ten days quarantined at home. Hotel rates in Calgary can easily exceed $200 per night. My quarantine could wind up costing me more than the round trip airfare.

So, I canceled the replacement flight. I will stick around here for at least 2 more weeks. Maybe a SMOD will strike Ottawa, or maybe the shithead policy will be rescinded.

468 Kamala's step daughter...

Makeup and hair can work miracles on camera. The only thing that they look for these days is high cheek bones, no double chin, and skinny. There is no beauty in that. Many runway high fashion models are downright ugly. So she fits right in. On the other hand, she is cross-eyed. That just doesn't fly in the modeling world. My son was cross eyed and we did major surgery to correct.
And the pit hair is just gross. I hate the modeling and fashion world with a passion.

We also listen to Les Miserables washing dishes. My daughter can belt the Cosette (and the other girl's) parts. She wishes we would encourage her to go to Broadway, but that life and society is just so awful, we can't stomach it. On the other hand, we get what we get if we don't put a better product forward.

Anyways, Happy Friday Horde! Sleep tight East Coasters, party on West Coasters!

Well, thanks. I do have to say that the Westjet booking counter supervisor did her best, and was very nice to deal with. The medical lab is the dog in the manger here, but Westjet Corporate sure cannot be praised for laying off so many people that their service suffers. I actually said to the supervisor, "it's people like you that cause me to say Westjet is the least-worst option if you simply must fly". She took it well.

And the lab really did fuck me around. Had I made the flight today, I would have escaped the hotel quarantine requirement, and gotten in under the old rules, 14 days quarantine at home, which is no hardship for me.

475 There's a particular reason why RoTN is my favorite movie. I was at Harvard Summer School's high school summer program (1984). Me and my 2 roommates (one an actual member of the CPUSA) took the T to Braintree to see it one Sunday night. Whereupon we were still 3 miles short. The "commie" (he was a good roommate, which is what mattered) decided to turn back, but me and the small town boy (E'ville, IL) decided to hitch a ride into Braintree and caught the movie just as the frat party was happening. It wasn't until years later when I finally saw the first 15 minutes. Anyway, the theater clerk took pity on us and so let us stay for the next movie which was Bachelor Party. It was ok the first time. I still love RoTN.

510 OK, so after all the talk of Master and Commander, I rewatched it for the first time since it came out.

I didn't like it then, but did not understand why.

30 years ago, tonight, I was sitting on a Destroyer in the Persian Gulf, that had major damage. We had lost power during an Underway replenishment, and run into the ship we were resupplying for, days before.

We were running on emergency cables, run throughout the ship, and we had less than HALF the speed available that we normally would have, as our Sonar Dome was trashed (sits on the bow of the ship).

So, during Storm, I was on a damaged ship, that still performed its duty... I guess the movie hit home more than I realized at the time.

But the diagonal from the rear bottom edge to the front top edge is greater than the ceiling height. No way to stand it up. They wanted to have a technician remove the compressor from the top, but I would not let them. I made them cut out the sheet rock they had just installed between two joists to make a hole the width of the fridge. Then they had to lift the fridge so the front edge went up between the joists as it rotated to the upright position. Then they patched the hole.

Which is exactly what I have done here. I have counters that are mis-matched, color-wise, but have the same profile. Scuff 'em down with 400-grit sandpaper, and spray some melamine paint, and then they will be the same.

Had he been the slightest bit thorough about reading it, he'd see that it's to build a crude working model of a lower GI tract out of household items, and then film it "pooping" to show how it works.

Not to actually photograph your turds. I'm SO glad I checked into this beyond questioning him alone, because I didn't chew someone out for no reason, and he didn't shit-pic his teacher.

Page does not exist. Who is in trouble?

702 Started worrying about stuff and decided to get up this cold morning. I'm just reading the latest news here, and a local TV website. Can't read the local paper anymore, as it pay per view.Does the WH call a lid in the later pm. Still wondering where Uncle Joe will be going on AF1 for the first time. If I was a new President, I'd be excited to fly on that big plane, like a kid with a new toy. But I'm not Joe.

Lying Brian williams got spoofed by the reel man who put up a movie clip
instead of a political conversation... He should have just jumped into another one his "I was in the chopper in Iraq taking small arms fire"
to smooth it over..

732 The dorito CNN thing is fake.

Which, according to a quick scan, nobody else here has bothered to mention.

Y'all are right on track with the left for recirculating whatever bullshit you want to believe.

734 The site of that Blood Graphic comes from Compound Interest - they have awesome graphics, illustrating many chemistry topics.

735 Sink - the put the soap dispenser in a pace where it would interrupt work flow, but depending on what sort of things they normally do in the kitchen it would allow two people access from different sides, perhaps? WHat I'm wondering about, though, is the gap under the counter on the extreme left; looks like a place a portable dishwasher might have gone.

That last item is like everyone fixating on the recent viral pic of a woman on a Zoom call with a large dildo on the shelf in the background, but nobody says BOO about the two bloody handprints on the wall over to the left.
