The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg

PROVERBS FOR MODERN TIMES

There are three things that feminists hate, yea, even four things they despise: a contented wife, a strong husband, happy children, and a household full of love.

Progressives look at Reason and say "who are you?" and to Common Sense they are a stranger.

Marxism is the opiate of the elite.

Socialists boast of their their righteousness, but their desire is only power.

Progressives demand three things: your approval, your money, and your children.

Libertarianism is a bridge that is only half-built.

Progressives hate normal life, and a city that is not in upheaval they abhor.

The mainstream media are dogs; either attack dogs or lap dogs.

Feminist women think the worst of men because feminist men are the worst of men. (h/t Grump928(C))

The Democrats' demand to let justice prevail actually means let just us prevail.

The Progressive has two daughters: Submit, and Shut Up.

The elite sneer at truck drivers who deliver their food.

Progressives hold a street protest to proclaim their virtue, but others must clean up their mess.

The more loudly the media insists that something is true, the more likely it is to be false.

What is advocated by liberals today will be defended by conservatives tomorrow.

Progressives want to remake the world on someone else's dime.

Foolishness is bound up in the heart of an antifa loser, but a 10-year stretch in a Federal PMITA prison will drive it far from him. Or, perhaps not.

Progressives define hate speech as speech that they hate.

Joe Biden in the White House is China's delight.

Wednesday Who Dis: I was surprisd at the number of shirtless pics of our last 'who dis' male actor, George Nader, and then I found out that he played on the same team with Rock Hudson (although they never sat next to each other on the team bus, IYKWIM). So perhaps those two data points are not unrelated. The last photo was a shot from the craptacular sci-fi stinker, Robot Monster, reputedly one of the worst films ever made. Shot in 4 days on a $16,000 budget, the filmmakers could not afford an actual robot suit/costume required by the plot, so the director used what he could get, a gorilla suit and a diving helmet. I guess he thought it could work. Hint: it didn't. Not even in 3D. Nader also starred with Jan Sterling, who made a career out of playing cheap floozies, hard-bitten dames, and other 'bad girl' roles, in the 1958 film The Female Animal.

14 Meeker played Mike Hammer in one of the '50s adaptations of a Spillane novel. Cloris, of course, most of us grew up with her. She was the first mom on Lassie, I understand -- maybe jus tin the pilot? -- and I've seen her in other vintage TV shows before she hit it big with The Last Picture Show and on TV with Mary Tyler Moore.

Check out the late 70s movie Scavenger Hunt that she was in. It has a great ensemble cast including Tony Randall, Richard Mull, Ah-nold, Dirk Benedict, and more.

Yep. I have strong personal inclinations to being left alone and leaving other people alone in all things, but as a political project what you'll get with libertarianism is libertinism (social liberalism) AND a massive government (or corporate) apparatus controlling every other aspect of society except gay bathhouses and heroin marketplaces. Same more or less goes for what passes for "classical liberalism" these days.

If they keep it up, it could cause a run and the failure of clearinghouses in a worst case. That would be monumentally disruptive and could trigger a crash. I might be okay with that.

Rumor has it that the trading halts on GME is because the hedge funds haven't covered their shorts (and at least some are lying about that - an easy play if you're the hedge fund because the SEC penalty for misreporting is a pittance and covering the short takes all of your capital and then some) but also that the brokerages couldn't margin call fast enough on the meteoric rise, exposing themselves and the clearinghouses to risk. And with more than 100% of available shares short, there's no way out unless the stock crashes and they can buy/sell/rebuy/resell. But a lot of people are refusing the sell.

*If* that is true, it could bankrupt brokers and clearinghouses. That might actually be disastrous, because it means the market makers are caught with their pants down. If that is true, look out below.

Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at January 29, 2021 11:40 AM (UZVEt)

169 >>>What is advocated by liberals today will be defended by conservatives tomorrow.
Which sums up the problem with "Conservatism" itself. When it originated in concept back in the 1800's it was an ideological opposition to modernism, seeking to preserve the philosophical achievements of the enlightenment. The nature of conservatism is to defend existing ground and as a result becomes over time defending modernist victories.

Take for example monopolies. The founders well realized their danger with their interactions with the East India Company. The first action of serious serious opposition was to boycott their principal product. The actions of the Crown that were feared that led to the revolution was a hand in glove preparation for the colonies to become another East India Company Vassal to the empire, to be looted like the Orient.

171 Anyone who says opposition to corporate monopolies via boycott or
other means isn't "Conservative" is voicing modernist fascist claptrap
from the 1800's that deserves no proponents.
We
have to move past ideological conservatism and return to enlightenment
philosophy as a positive philosophical opponent to modernism. Not simply
a "resister of change" a proponent of change to enlightenment ideals.

The breading you could pull off low carb. But the onion is a killer. If you consume your fill of blooming onion (about half a very large onion) you are going to get 8 carbs from that alone. Once you add in dipping sauce and your low carb breading you are easily going to go over your keto limits.

FAA has a problem with SpaceX and launching SN9 prototype.
And thus, the government begins to wreck Elon Musk and SpaceX.

226 Your "Proverbs for Modern Times" mirrors a concept that I have been formulating for a while. Collectivism is immoral, but why? While reading a book by Father Spitzer ("Christ vs. Satan"), I had an epiphany that answered the why. It's because collectivism fosters multiple sins:

The productive are robbed of the fruit of their labor (a sin in itself, but also breeds the sin of Anger in the laborer), others are made dependent (fostering the sins of Envy and Sloth), and requires a ruling class to redistribute wealth (that have to suppress their consciences and empathy in order to exercise the sins of Pride and Vanity).

Right?

In this social media age, you can't just author a good book on advice for new parents, you have to be an "influencer" and an "expert" with people invested in your personality/charisma, so much so that they follow you, identify with you. Ick.

The ony thing worse than the sleep expert is her fellow baby parenting expert/influencer dude who outed her, because in addition to the influencer shtick, he is WOKE AF. Because parents looking for advice on issues with infants need to be up on the latest LGBTQ-BLM-Etc. stuff.

281 >>>It's because collectivism fosters multiple sins:

It's the dilution that's the problem. You take no responsibility for your actions when not virtuous, as they are diluted out to society as a whole as a contributor. And you take no personal charity because charity is outsourced to the collective from the individual. You become merely a cog in the collective machine, not caring particularly about your personal sin or virtue so long as you keep being that cog, the machine manages those things allowing you to collapse inward on the self.
Collectivism is the death of the individual soul. And so deep has the dragon invaded that "Christians" themselves now speak openly of collective salvation. A concept completely antithetical to biblical teaching.

Christian collectivism, as well defined by St. Benedict, eschews the critical weaknesses of modern collectivism.
1. You choose to be part of the community and can leave at any time. Your choice to remain and follow the communities rules are yours and yours alone. This is a personal act of virtue.
2. Individual virtue is the focus of communal life. While they do things together, the *WHOLE PURPOSE* is to be a mutual support group for individual virtue (read The Rule by St. Benedict this is very clear) like a lifetime living in a 12 step rehab center for addiction to sin.

Love me some Natalie Zea. Currently suffering thru the CBS sitcom "The Unicorn" with her and Walton Goggins.

I suggested her to OM as a Who Dis several months ago. Not sure if she ever made the cut.

354 Ava.

BTW, just saw this headline: "Dow Slides 400 Points as Wall Street Gripped by GameStop Frenzy". Nothing about how GDP lowered after the presidency was stolen.

355 157- *If* that is true, it could bankrupt brokers and clearinghouses. That might actually be disastrous, because it means the market makers are caught with their pants down. If that is true, look out below.

I was also wondering if RobinHood restricted accounts to liquidating transactions only because some of these new market players weren't paying for their purchases. That's a Reg T violation. You can't buy and then cover with proceeds from the sale in a cash account and you can't margin stock you haven't paid for. Maybe we're only hearing from clients who were thusly restricted.

357 I saw on Bloomberg this morning that Jim Cramersays the fed government needs to get involved in GameStop. What a moron. What are they going to get involved in hostile takeovers where the goal is to shutout competition and layoff employees? LBOs where the feds think there's too much debt? The list is endless.

Purely on physical aspects? Because as Christopher Taylor said, all of them are Rule #1 violations. But on the former, Winona's (Natalie Zea) the winner, possibly with Rachel Brooks (Erica Tazel) as a close second

Well, with Ava she'd give you the night of your life ("Why yes, I believe I DO have a feather duster and a can of creamed corn."). But you'd wake up with your ankle handcuffed to the headboard and your wallet empty. But it would be worth it.

Thats a fair point. I used to have to deal Reg. T violations all the team. Even active traders would get burned by them even though they should have known better.

369 "What is advocated by liberals today will be defended by conservatives tomorrow".

As a conservative, I didn't get this memo.....unless you're talking about the GOPe that use conservative rhetoric to get elected, claim to be conservatives but aren't, then get hung around actual conservatives necks when convenient at a blog and used to claim conservatism has failed by assorted dishonest fools.
Maybe those are the "conservatives" you are talking about(?) Sure AF ain't this conservative.

371 RobinHood and whatever rich company offering them a buyout to protect their hedgefund can be easily destroyed by every person affected by their actions asking for arbitration of their grievances. RH was stupid enough not to allow collective arbitration because it figured it could handle the few individual disgruntled individuals. Plus, if the claim is over 100k, then RH MUST pay for a three abitrator panel.

Patreon is going down the tubes due to collective individual abitration action at a much lower level. The legal costs of these arbitration actions for their misdeeds is bankrupting them.
