Where are you getting your safety razor blades?. I pay about 5 cents a blade (Derby, a Turkish Blade and Astra). Its not as sharp as a feather, but almost. They last me 3-5 days each. Many times when I see "details" like this I ask myself, how is it that I know this? That is, there is a long chain of events and actors between my eyes and the event or detail itself.
In this case, if it were true, how exactly did this information get out and find global currency? Are we going to get details on who gets first wack at the master bedroom's shower? Who and why would this information be made known?

Yep. If its details that only would show up in a book or a movie, you can tell its bullcrap we're being spoon fed. It might be real but even then its something a publicist put out, not something a reporter dug up.
The job of journalism never really was worth a crap but there was a time in the past when it was more professional. They're awful at it now. I mean, the whole Hollywood version of the intrepid reporter who'd do anything for a story and was always Just The Facts was never true, but they were better at their basic job of gathering information and writing about it.
This new crop is so horrible at it. To me that's even worse than their blatant bias.

Journalism sucks just like Education as a field because neither rely on a core base of subject matter knowledge. Back in the day, science reporters had to have a science degree or educators majored in math, english,etc.
We had a better media when they were reporters and not journalism students.

Probably because it was a Buddy series and not produced for a major OTA network. OTOH, Suits started off as a Buddy series where you expected the duo to win the day at the end of the show, and we all looked forward to it.
Then a few successful seasons in and the activists decide to kill it, gut it, wear its skin as a suit and demand the same respect.
Same with "House", "Blacklist" and a host of other Buddy shows that used to be fun until they corrupted them all. Major reason why I wouldn't watch "Bull" (another Buddy show) because I would hate to like the series only a few seasons in be propagandized by the perverts and SJW activists.

I find advertising fascinating. TV shows too. In a lot of ways it reflects how people 'want' the world to be. I doubt even in the 50s-60s, anyone believed Ozzie and Harriet was 'real'. But it was a nice dream to them. A father and Mother who loved each other. Knew how shit worked and spent time and tried to teach their kids- and loved them.
An idealized version of something is important because it gives everyone something to aspire to. The problem with SO much modern media is that they have forgotten the reality escapism and striving that people look for in a good adventure or fantasy novel. In real life, Edmund Dantes would have died in prison. Mercedes would have been happily married to Fernand and poisoned his wine after one of his affairs.
But in the story, he comes back, gets the money and BRINGS THEM ALL TO JUSTICE. And gets the girl back who never forgot him.
Realistic? Nope. Fun and enjoyable? Absolutely.

It was more true then than it is now. It was idealized, obviously (I mean none of the kids got into drugs, or knocked up, or decided he was a girl) but that kid of family really did exist once, and probably still does some places. I grew up in one.

Brits do this better, they don't do unending shows (except for stuff like soaps). They do a show, and if they have more ideas and a story, then they do another season of the show. They have to pitch and get the clearance from the network to keep going. Some crap still gets through (Sherlock) because it makes so much money and is so popular, but generally it keeps the show from self destructing by continuing past when they have ideas.

Burn Notice didn't get woke but it got bad when they ran out of stories to tell. They should have wrapped the show up once he was able to get back to his old job.
Law and Order: Special Victims Unit is most unrealistic. I'd hazard a guess that no one works in such an actual unit for longer than four to five years before moving out, given the nature of the perps and the crimes. The principal characters in those shows were in the unit for a decade or more. Not the least bit believable, completely separate from the story lines growing more and more desperate and strained.

They kind of covered that in Criminal Minds, a couple characters left the show (the actors moved on or quit) because they just couldn't keep that up any longer. Which made sense. But I mean it was only canceled last year and several of the actors were the same people from the start.
I got a couple seasons out of it but it started to grate on me. They portrayed the whole "profiling" like it was magic, often without a shred of justification for their holy pronouncements on the target. The cases were often ludicrous and built for drama rather than realism.
And the characters became really obnoxious because, like CSI, every character had to have an Arc and Storyline which basically made them all unhirable and impossible to keep on the job, but somehow they still were there.

The best I did was use an 1834 paper against an old idea touted as new. He was a master at it. A real character. He approved all the toothpaste patents when he was doing his job.

I wonder if there any books written about those teams? More specifically, how they did it. I used Moneyball as kind of a blueprint for my HS teams. When you can't get the best talent you have to find a way to win with the talent you have. So would be interesting to me to read how they did it.

Somewhat. The truth is the Democrats are about to throw their base under the bus, too, can't deliver on most things promised (thank God), and are unified only in their hatred of Trump. The upside is it gives cover to the Republican Party, to the extent elections matter any longer, to excise cancers like McConnell and McCarthy right along with garbage they supposedly lead like Cheney and Romney.

A cautionary tale on the virtue of Term Limits is the situation in Late Republican Rome. When you got a foreign post, you had one year, unless you had clout, to squeeze the money out of the province to pay for your future political career, your family livelihood, and your son's early career. As more wealth poured in, this resulted in spectacular robbery that even scandalized those who had or were going to do much the same when it was their turn. Trying to prosecute led to spectacular corrupt attempts to foil corruption charges put up by young politicians to make a name - Cicero and Caesar both did this.
So without a sense of ethics or fear of prosecution, all term limits do is make you work faster, it doesnt eliminate corruption.

I think term limits work well (generally) at the State level, because most state bureaucracies are not that bloated (well, California and New York, but anyways). The Federal Bureaucracy is the Deep State, the permanent government.

I was using them as examples of teams that failed for decades at the bottom of the league and just about never rose up. Each of them did have times of dominance.
The Mets also were famously bad during the 1960s, and I think both teams pulled out at about the same time due to a lot of that young talent panning out and someone being smart enough to put parts around them to have them win. With the Mets, they got Seaver, Koosman, and Ryan within a few years. The Browns moved to become the Orioles, and got Palmer, Cuellar, and then picked up Frank Robinson for a song

In early days if you were talented, you got you consulships, you became part of the club, and you got your respect and were assimilated. The Emperor at first pretended to have a legislative branch, but it soon devolved to just a place to warehouse nobles to watch them.

A friend of mine drowned over there in 2003. I was a rescue swimmer and jumped in CSAR missions. His bird got called to pick up some tribal leader's kid who had been clipped in an explosion of some kind. Two birds flew in, got the kid, and lifted straight up into some power lines. You got anything that can verify that claim? To my knowledge the top speed of a M-88 unloaded was only around 30mph. Towing anything with weight, anything over 20mph was a minor miracle.

I did WOC school at Sill. Then another 18 months back at Bliss. And yes, Nacly, that was a sweet, sweet bullet. Zero to breaking the sound barrier twice before it ever left the rail.
I got re-treaded into patriot during WOC school. If i had know then, what i know now. SMH would've been rescuing my dumb ass in a tank troop when i re-up'ed for more ADA instead of dismounted forward scout.
