Politico: Neocon Viperess Liz Cheney Fights For Her Political Life

And I laugh, and laugh, and laugh.

Only 20% of the GOP caucus was required to sign a petition which would force a secret ballot vote on whether to keep Cheney as the GOP's #3 leader (note: I previously erred and said #2), or to ditch the bitch.

Over half of the caucus signed the petition.

Yes, they might say one thing in public vote and another in a secret-ballot vote, but... that's a lot of signatures.

You know who else just got censured by his home-county GOP organization?

=Scourgeof the Tea Party, Mitch McConnell.

The leadership of the Nelson County Republican Party unanimously approved issuing a formal rebuke of U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell Tuesday evening.

The unanimous vote of the 11 members of the executive committee came about six hours after McConnell took to the U.S. Senate floor and said President Donald Trump provoked a violent mob that attacked the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

A censure, or formal rebuke, issued after the vote accused McConnell of "implying (Trump) and his administration lied about the election," and that "McConnell has abandoned his Republican base that put him in office."

Speaking over neoliberal pseudorepublicans who need to be purged: George Bush, Jr. (ever notice the GOP has a real problem with undeserving nepots?) declared that Democrat Congressman James Clyburn was a "savoir" of the country for endorsing Biden, because only Biden could beat Trump.

So again, let's note that our Republican Ruling Class who has been trying to get Democrats elected three cycles in a row.

And let's again note that they deny that there is a DC Insider Uniparty, despite, you know, merging with the Democrats to become an actual Uniparty.

Former President George W. Bush called House Majority Whip James Clyburn "the savior" for his endorsement of Joe Biden in last year’s presidential primary, the Democratic lawmaker revealed.

Speaking to reporters during a press call Wednesday after the swearing in of the 46th commander-in-chief, Clyburn (D-SC) revealed that Bush made the comments to him directly that morning as they awaited the start of the inauguration.

"George Bush said to me today, he said, 'You know, you're the savior because if you had not nominated Joe Biden, we would not be having this transfer of power today,'" the No. 3 House Democrat said after being asked what he was thinking as he watched President Biden being sworn in.

"He said to me that Joe Biden was the only one who could have defeated the incumbent president," Clyburn continued.

Enough of Kennebunkport "Konservatism."

Quick note: Dan Riehl relayed to me, years back, a complaint Mark Levin had about working in the Reagan Administration. Levin was in the DOJ. Or was a US Attorney. I forget which.

Anyway, Levin said that despite the fact that Reagan was voted in as a real conservative, a soft-r revolutionary, and a populist, and intended to govern that way, lots of weak Rockefeller Republicans and George Bush Sr. Connecticut Republicans swept into the government with him.

Levin said it was a constant fight to enact Reagan's stated priorities -- the ones he ran on, and received an overwhelming mandate for -- because the liberal Bushies and Rockefellerites were sabotaging and subverting him at every turn, always attempting to keep the Democrat-in-all-but-name liberalism they preferred.

We just saw four more years of that.

It's time to purge the party of these Democrats in Establishment GOP Clothing. They are only "with" you in the times when their support is the least necessary -- when you're easily winning.

But they're always looking for the opportunity to turn traitor and sell you out to their Democrat allies.

So they're "with" you when you don't need them -- just to feather their own nests -- and the minute you do need them, they back-stab you.

Their brand is betrayal.

We do not need them. We can no longer abide them.

It's time for the neocons to recategorize themselves properly -- as pro-war, but otherwise urban liberal Democrats -- or to get out of politics completely, and learn to fuckin' code.

42 I know people don't really want to talk about it right now, because they're angry, but the solution, if there is one, is to be found in state governments and parties.

How THEY choose to respond to what is happening in Washington right now, that's going to be where things get done. Not in third parties, not in whatever endeavor Trump gets up to next.

States.

Which, oddly enough, is how the original founders envisioned government working... to the extent that it could.

83 I know people don't really want to talk about it right now, because
they're angry, but the solution, if there is one, is to be found in
state governments and parties.
How THEY choose to respond to what is happening in Washington right
now, that's going to be where things get done. Not in third parties,
not in whatever endeavor Trump gets up to next.
States.

89 Anyway, Levin said that despite the fact that Reagan was voted in as a real conservative, a soft-r revolutionary, and a populist, and intended to govern that way, lots of weak Rockefeller Republicans and George Bush Sr.

Part of the reason I want Trump to run in 2024 is that trying to put another outsider in there would merely result in this same effect: the outsider would place trust in the establishment GOP who helped him get elected (since they control the party apparatus) and then find himself undermined at every turn. Trump suffered from this for four years, but would be less likely, IMHO, to fall for it again. And since he would have power in the party in his own right, he would be less beholden to McConnell to get "approved" establishment figures through the Senate.

The founding fathers had in mind Cincinatus and the Roman Empire when they wrote the constitution. The Romans had a system where a landed man was called to serve in the government for a time, usually one year, and then went back to his farm. That's it. There was no concept of a career politician. And in a perfect world that's what we'd have. People chosen at random from all walks of life to serve in congress, work a one year term, and then go back to their lives. What a beautiful thing that would be. Human nature being what it is, it could never happen. But a man can dream.

Instead, after pasting look for smart quotes, they should be generic, as well as apostrophe's. Those are the 2 things that kill it here - and a plain text doc will still support those characters. I've found 90% of the time, I'm missing an apostrophe somewhere. Just replace them in your text box.

I can't prove he's lying about this, but it's awfully convenient. Bush doesn't need to deny it, he may even feel that way, but it doesn't mean he said it. It's probably someone from Clyburn's office giving the press a juicy story they made up to paint Trump supporters as outside the mainstream.

Here's my favorite story along these lines, posted by a long-departed commenter almost 5 years ago:

[Science fiction author] Jerry Pournelle had a quiet inside network of conservative contacts inside the Reagan White House, promoting things like ballistic missile defense.

He recalls what happened in the one week following the inauguration of Poppy Bush in January of 1989 -- the sweeping purge. Every single one of Pournelle's conservative contacts were *gone*, replaced by what he terms "the country club set".

Fast forward a couple of decades to a GOP wondering where it all went so terribly wrong. Well, perhaps the inflection point was just where Dr. P says.

IIRC, per current Senate impeachment trial rules, 51 votes can accomplish or force anything, except conviction (67 needed). If PDT's attorney tried to introduce election fraud evidence, that can be completely blocked by 51 Senators voting it is immaterial to the impeachment charge. Subpoena of evidence from PA, GA etc. - same thing.

I guess PDT's attorneys, in opening and closing statements, could repeat everything PDT and others said about likely cheating, for the record.

I believe PDT should hire an attorney to represent him. One, only, Who simply says, "This is horse dung," every time it is his/her turn to speak.

Partnering on legislation, getting them involved in the Clinton foundation, moving her PAC money to freshman Dems' campaigns to give them a leg up. Hillary clearly knew how to get people invested in her as a Senator, and indebted to her for their re-election and involvement in high profile issues.

294 Did anyone see the article about a dozen restaurants in Ohio that sued their insurer to cover losses from the shutdown? Amazingly, the judge sided with the restaurants because the policies specified that the insurance company would not be liable for closures due to microbial infections/diseases. The plaintiffs argued that they weren't closed because of that but because of government orders. I saw some headlines about the insurance and reinsurance industries freaking out over wider implications.

301 Except you really can't do that. Trump was a man with no political experience placed in the most powerful position in the world. Vast, entrenched bureacracies were beneath him, and most of the people running those bureacracies were trying to undermine him. It took Obama and federal employee unions 8 years to entrench that kind of corruption, no one could have undone it in 4.
Posted by: UGAdawg at January 22, 2021 12:41 PM (tRd71)

And really, that ball was already rolling LONG before Obama got in. Between the Bush's and Clinton, the foundation was complete so it was just a matter of filling the vacancies. Trump would have had to undo 30+ years of malignancy. I don't think even a solid 8 could do it, but it sure would have made a difference.

They don't seem to understand that by doing things the voters want, they'd end up with more capital than they started with.

Akkkshuallly, I didn't think that through to its end. They do know it and use "political capital" as one of the many bullshit reasons they can't do what the people who elected them want. More failure theater.

364 The story of Trump as president will come out eventually. But, as the federal government has grown in power, it has effectively become a ratchet due to civil service laws and the vast number of patronage positions. An outsider has no opportunity to staff a team but instead had to take the civil service as it was and take whatever GOPe incorporated wanted in order to get a vote in the Senate. Those patronage appointments in the system are to act on the behalf of special interests and big donors, not for the American people.

Due to McConnell (and colleagues), Trump could not even get any people aboard using recess appointments. If Trump had tried to go outside of the Federalist Society of patronage for judges, he would have simply not had any judges appointed. Ryan helped tank the 2018 elections along with GOPe retirements in the House. His own AG's allowed Dems to persecute him. Essentially, the GOPe immune system sensed the outsider and acted as one in DC to repulse the reforming infection.

406 So the major point where things started to go wrong was in 1999 with the installation of Denis Hastert as the speaker of the House.

But I wonder if the election of Bush 43 was another inflection point. When the towers fell everyone knew Clinton was to blame and there was serious anger rising against the failures of the Democrats.

But Bush was president and it gave the left some wiggle room to say "not our fault" which Bush embraced.

If President Gore is there on that day, he gets impeached. And the dirty laundry starts to come out.

The Media is a HUGE problem. But the current outfits cannot be remade or reformed from outside, other than by reducing their viewers and readers to zero.

They have no incentive to change, at this time. They cannot be made to change by appeals to their duty as professional journalists. Because there is no such duty that they signed-up for. A journalist's only enforceable contract is an employment contract. No journalist ever swore to, or signed a contract saying, "I will report only the facts, impartially."

421 We actually know quite a bit about third parties and what happens when a party dies in U.S. politics. Third parties that are centered on a single charismatic leader generally don't last (see Bull Moose party for example). Third parties based on single or a few interests do not last--if the policy is popular, one or the other party will take it up. If not, then the party will die in short order. Thus, in our system, so long as we keep single member districts and majority vote for those districts, we will only have two major parties.

A major party can die--the Federalist Party declined rapidly after 1800 until is was a pale shadow in 1812. The Hartford Conference killed what was left after the triumph in the Battle of New Orleans.

The Whigs died from the compromise of 1850 which split the northern and southern branches over slavery and the early death of Zachary Taylor in office who was replaced by the mediocre Millard Fillmore.

423 anecdote:

I met six total strangers last night after going to my daughter's basketball game last night. Well, five strangers and one friend. And this is a team organized for homeschoolers, and they play against private schools, probably all Christian schools. Anyway these were team parents so we're filtered for a fairly conservative mindset, probably.

But I didn't know them and no one was taking politics. Near the end of the time (as we waited for our girls) Covid came up and I made a fairly anodyne comment about the "interesting" changes to testing the WHO had announced.

Instant response, big response--everyone knew, everyone was pissed, etc etc. It was comforting to run into a group of strangers and find out they're as red pilled as any moron on this site.

434 272 At some point in politics though, you really do need to put together a majority coalition, or you just lose. You might say with them in the coalition, you lose anyway, which I somewhat agree with."

Here's my counter argument to the third party is a mistake crowd. IF a third "patriot" party is started, I think people underestimate it's clout. ALOT of Republican voters would jump ship, I'd guess a majority. Enough so the GOP would have to play ball with US to win any seats. Remember, if a third party fails it takes the GOP out of the game with it. They're done. Even they don't want that. They'll have to form alliances with Patriot Party voters and candidates or be wiped out. So there's that. Am I right? Who knows. But I'm in to try!
Posted by: Agent Cooper at January 22, 2021 12:42 PM (Dc5Qe)

Thanks for this serious answer. Here's my counter argument: both parties, at the state level, have put up huge roadblocks to third parties, but very few defenses to protect the parties themselves from being taken over. So if having to choose third party or taking over the Republican party, I would choose the latter. Not sure the result will command a majority though.

And the ethics section is only available on line, because it gets changed too often to allow for a print edition, and when you click on it, it's a 404?

443 I know I'm supposed to love my enemies as a follower of Christ. Yet, I'm so bitterly human. So fuck them. Father, forgive me.

Amongst my myriad of transgressions, that one has now topped my list. I try to feel guilt or remorse for it but it just ain't happening. Guess I'll have some splainin' to do when the time comes.

444 Biggest mistake Reagan made? Not replacing Bush with Kemp in 1984.

445 Wasn't it Julia Roberts who said Republicans are found between Quisling and Spineless in the dictionary? Nope. That's me what said it.

447 Anyone know if there is anyway to see who the 107 that signed the petition are?

450 Cone on. Were not "purging" the Grand Old Party of anyone. That ship has sailed. The GOP is a dead, rotting carcass that is too far gone.

451 These comments needed some Libertarian hate. Mockery at least.

452 Yeah, I think Ace is right-- whenever neo's (goes for Libertarians as well) are yelling and yammering, writing their op-eds, and feeding their Instagrams, etc. the simple, standard indicated response to them should be: "Have you registered as a Democrat yet"

Because they clearly do love to talk, but engaging it is always a mistake. Stop walking into their cobweb.

453 "It's time to purge the party of these Democrats in Establishment GOP Clothing."

Instead of ferreting out the RINOs and NeverTrumpers and China INC puppets from the GOP, just walk away from it and form a new party - call it, say, "The Patriot Party" or some such.

454 There is no reforming the GOP, the TEA Party tried to take it over from the bottom up and failed, not for lack of effort but because Mitch and Lindsey, et al made sure it didn't.
The only way to rid ourselves of the GOP national leaders is to abandon the whole party. Doesn't matter who censures who, in the end the local GOP leaders will do what the national leaders want, if the local leaders had wanted to do something about McConnell or Graham they could have before now but they didn't, and they won't. If there were going to be a bottom up revolution in the GOP it would have already happened. burn it to the ground, and salt the earth where it once stood. or are we now going to say that voting matters, even though we know they will cheat if they don't like the real vote? So what is the point of taking over the bloated, rotten carcass of the GOP?

It doesn't make any sense, it's a recipe for more of the same.
