Guy on Youtube who goes by Captain Capitalism summed up the college thing well: go STEM, go trades, or go home. Liberalism or no, if she's backing out of a $200K literature degree or something equally useless before paying all that money it'll be to her benefit in the long run. Most corporate jobs that would accept such a degree don't actually pay very well when one considers both the cost of the degree and the high cost of living in and around the corporate office parks.

Not sure where you are, but the trades here in Indiana always need hard workers willing to learn. I'd look at the Carpenters Union and the IBEW for starters. Good work, decent pay, pension, and they pay for your schooling. And unlike government union workers, trade union folks for the most part excel at what they do.

On a rework, that parts cost would be ATC'd by the cost of the electrician wiring the panel and the permit.

Several things to consider.
If your generator runs on natural gas, you may have to upgrade your service line to your house or you may have to upsize your pipe depending on the gas demand of the generator and where you locate it.
Similar issue for propane, how much are you going to run it, and where do you locate it. For example, a 10-12 kw generator uses about 2.6 gal of propane per hour and needs a 3/4 to 1 inch service line.
Generators are cheaper to install near your present service mast and meter.

I don't know what that means. My house is almost 100 years old. I saved money by finding my own generator that was large enough to power my house. I paid the electrician to hook it up.
The generator for my well was expensive, that one had to have a different electrician that works with wells.

Generac is a decent brand with an existing service and parts network, Briggs and Stratton is an up and coming brand that motor parts at least are available everywhere. Kohler and Honeywell are two other standby generator companies. More limited service network and parts for these, the last that I checked.

Some are now smart and can adjust loads by turning off and on electric high demand appliances such as a hot water heater, stove, or ac. You can even assign priorities to these devices. That way it balances the load and avoids kicking off the main breaker and you can manage with a smaller kw generator than you would otherwise need.

Ours is a manual interlock, which means a manual device which prevents the generator and main power both being supplied at the same time, and which means more work to get it going, but cheaper and more fail-proof in the long run. On a new construction where you don't have to worry about re-wiring, or adding satellite panels, the parts amounted to about a $200 additional cost to the planned cost for electrical installation on our build.

That's how mine for the house works. There's a box at the south end of my house with a big lever that I switch to use the generator.
One of the ranches near me built his dream house and his goes on automatically. I wanted that but it was too expensive to do here.

Hot water recirculation system -- gives you nearly instant hot water at the taps. I thought it was great, until I started looking at the power usage.
The new house is on a slab with PEX plumbing, most of it under the slab. Those pipes are thus surrounded by dirt under the slab. No insulation (and I don't know what if any would be suitable for direct burial).
The heat loss was unbelievable. I still can hardly believe it but it was putting an average load of 1 kW on the system. This was pushing the daily average load over 3kW, and that's getting into some money.
I measured the temperature drop on the loop, and it was losing 4-5 degrees F on the round trip, and the little recirculator pump is about 1GPM. With a 50 gallon water, that's about 50 minutes to lower the temperature of the whole thing 5F.
And that's exactly what it was doing. The water heater was coming on about once per hour and running for 10+ minutes.

Manual transfer switches are the cheapest by far compared to automatic. That's what I'd do.
Backfeeding lines is a problem. Usually, if there's a short or even heavy load on the downed/faulted high voltage distribution lines, one little generator would just trip out trying to feed it. But for isolated lines with little load, backfeeding can be a problem.
Duke around here has specific grounding protocols the lineman follow just to handle that possibility.

Ours is largish, but in a power outage, I want basics like heat, hot water, and food to not spoil, so 50A is probably sufficient. Our last sustained power outage was about 72 hours, and we just began to need electricity for the freezer when I dragged out the generator. An hour later, the power came back on. That is basically the scenario I am planning on, except, now, I won't have wood heat as an option.

A common option is to put an "emergency subpanel" in. You put your "emergency loads" -- things you want to run off the generator on that. Fridge, freezer, etc, etc.
Now, you put a transfer switch on that, and they even make special generator panels with all that built in -- usuallly an interlocking breaker arrangement. Those are relatively cheap.
You wire that to the main panel, and the other feed to a generator inlet, and power the subpanel off the generator during the power outage.

unfortunately, I was out for a run
when I returned, the ATS was roasted
luckily, it's in a metal panel
I replaced it but I just manually switch when I need it, cause I'm always here

Mine works my whole house, pool, pool house and front gate. I have a small one hooked up to my laundry room with the same manual hookup. My boiler is in the laundry room along with freezers.

Briggs has some innovative inclusions in their ATS as it also comes with Symphony load management and it switches on and off high demand electric appliances according to a priority program that you can alter. It allows you a cheaper install as most of them run full 100-250 amp so no daughter breaker box or lockout install on your main is needed.
But, with them in chapter 11, quality usually slides.

Ditto with making NATO play nice, winding down the action in Iraq without looking weak or abandoning allies, and making the PRC pay for its bullying behavior.
But the world leaders know Biden is an empty suit available to the highest bidder, and Harris is a nonentity with no understanding of foreign policy. Here comes trouble again....

The musicianship of Metal instrumentalists (good ones, anyway) is simply unmatched. They're freaks; what opera singers are to vocalists. The parallels with Opera are actually quite stunning - over the top productions, freakish musical talents, high drama and deep meanings everywhere.

At the TxMoMe, Berzerker talked about this quite a bit. One of his points was that what seems like some kind of riff is actually a well-planned, practiced, and executed musical effort. It must be pulled off with precision, or it sounds like shit as does the rest of the band.

I changed my mind big time about heavy metal after I learned that Led Zeppelin made songs inspired by LOTR, and Iron Maiden & Metallica were inspired by H.P. Lovecraft. They made it easy to get into the music, and be impressed by a lot of the instrumental work, which was more mighty than expected.

Ya know, I used to love Schlichter until I realized that he's a guy who uses his military experience to explain the horrors of socialism and fascism, then does absolutely nothing about it except write articles for the Daily Caller and fictional books. Shouldn't someone who has seen the horrors be a bit more active in preventing them?

There is a band called Nile that does interesting themes like their album "Annihilation of the Wicked" which is translations of two Egyptian scripts for dealing with day to day things like whipping slaves, torturing heretics, preparing for the afterlife, etc.. Most of their albums have interesting themes.
