Florida Bank Joins Other Banks in Closing Trump's Accounts

Does everyone feel satisfied with the outcome of the regime of Complete Liberty for Corporations, Diminished Liberty for Actual Human Beings?

I know what we can do: We can do more favors for large (globalist) corporations!

Somewhere inside every globalist corporation is a Young American waiting to come out, if we just offer it enough bribes, concessions, and reductions in our own liberty.

A Florida bank announced Thursday that it has closed down former President Trump’s account, joining a growing list of entities that have cut ties with the former president following the deadly Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

In his financial disclosures, Trump had stated he had two money-market accounts with Banks United, The Washington Post reports. The accounts held somewhere between $5.1 million and $25.2 million.

"We no longer have any depository relationship with him," said Banks United, without giving reasons for its decision to shutter the accounts.

Another Florida bank, Professional Bank, last week announced that it would be cutting ties with Trump, saying it would no longer conduct business with the former president or his organizations.

Signature Bank in New York and Deutsche Bank have also said they will no longer be conducting future business with Trump.

We need an anti-discrimination law protecting people for political beliefs.

For those who say that's silly: We have those laws for every group on the planet, except us. I can tell you, as someone who is friends with the owners of law firms and businesses, that when it's time to cut staff, the people protected by these laws are cut last, just to avoid the legal troubles that would flow from cutting a protected person.

Why should we be the only people in America not protected?

Some people will say: "But demanding our own anti-discrimination protection would reduce our ability to argue against such protections."

Okay well you theoretically have that ability right now.

How's that going for you? Are you making Big GAINZZZZ in rolling back the "civil rights" favoritism racket?

Have you noticed anyone in Conservatism, Inc. -- say at National Review, or at Heritage -- making a case for rolling back "civil rights"/employment/services protections for racial or sexual minorities?

Or would you say that Conservatism, Inc. basically hasn't even spoken about rolling affirmative action back since Ward Connelly was in prominence in the 1990s?

So I'm not understanding what our "pristine right to argue against civil rights protections for others" gets us. It's a wholly hypothetical right. We have the right to speak -- and be completely ignored.

And we don't even have the right to speak, because if you did argue publicly to roll back anti-"discrimination" protections, businesses and banks would embargo you into bankruptcy, until you recanted.

So what does this right we allegedly have-- but do not in fact have -- to speak out against protections for threatened minorities get us?

Those protections aren't going away -- in fact, they'll be proliferating and growing more vicious over the next four years.

The only people left unprotected are us -- and we're the ones who are the biggest impediment to getting protection for ourselves.

The people who are currently protected are the people least in need of the protection. Virtue signaling businesses and banks are not going to start cutting off blacks, Hispanics, and gays.

Or even antifa! Cutting off antifa would be too controversial. Too "alt-right."

But they are all coming after us.

And yes, even mentioning this inconvenient fact makes it more likely that these businesses will deny services to me, next.

Just something to think about.

If in your perfect world there are no limitations on who a business or bank can refuse to transact with -- can I ask, how many decades are centuries are we from achieving that perfect world?

And would it be too unreasonable to ask that while we spend decades or centuries praying that perfect libertarian world into existence, that we in the meantime take advantage of the laws that are protecting everyone else?

Bullies will intensify their bullying until you break their fucking noses.

Buh Muh Private Corporations

Make your own internet, your own banks, your own credit card transaction services, your own web server complexes, and your own publishers and media.

Oh, and if you do: We'll activate our Cartel Members to strangle them in the crib.

I guess what they're really saying is "Make your own country."

It makes sense. If someone defaults on a loan, the bank can collect at least some of what was owed through legal means, so it's at least a partially guaranteed cash flow. On the other hand the bank has to give you your deposit back, so it's is a debt owed to the customer.

++++
This gets interesting. I am not a banker or a lawyer, so grains of sand about. The $10,000 reporting limit (which is absurd, I'll get to that later) is for single transactions, except for the exceptions.

Staggering your deposits or withdrawals to avoid the reporting limit is called "structuring" and it is illegal. If the bank believes that you are "structuring" to avoid the limits, they are obligated to report it to the government. Then they investigate you and if you are found to be "structuring" then you're going to lose a lot - maybe all - of your money and might end up in jail.

It's completely insane. But consistent behavior - like pulling out a thousand bucks every pay day for a long period of time - or one-off behavior - like occasionally pulling out four or five grand but not on any kind of a schedule - is unlikely to be considered "structuring." But proving your innocence (which is essentially what you have to do) is tough if you get fingered for it.

Point is to establish a pattern.
"We keep $1000 a week for blow and hookers" is an answer to why you pull cash every week.
Only unexplained amounts over $10,000 can be questioned. (as though that ever helped).
Groceries. Restaurants.
"We eat large". "I'm a great tipper".

Presumably so. Theoretically at least, a bank only HAS money to loan because of the foundation that consists of deposits from you and me.

191 Here's what really pisses me off about the $10,000 reporting limit: it is another great example of what happens when the government makes a rule. It becomes sacrosanct and unchangeable.

The reporting limit went into effect in 1970. In 1970, $10,000 was a lot more money than it is now. In that year, it was 50% of the FDIC deposit limit.

Adjusted for CPI inflation, the limit should now be about $65,000. Adjusting for FDIC deposit insurance limits, it should be $125,000.

But no. It's still $10,000. Because safety or whatever.

Righteous x1000. And yet Americans should not have to secede from their own country. Facebook, Reddit, etc. are primarily communications platforms, and even WITH mass attacks on anyone to the right of Jeb Bush they couldn't stop way more than 74 million people voting for Trump. No one believes Biden got more than 80 million votes. He can't step out in public without fearing that Trump voters will effortlessly upstage him.

What you have is a very tiny New York elite trying to ban more than half of the actual citizenry from having a society. It's the kind of thing that leads to genocide, and the Tutsis did a lot less to deserve theirs than Bloomberg/ Zuckerberg are doing now.

Need to have enough conservatives to be angry enough to upset their lives by withdrawing from the companies they currently use and support the new ones. The companies will be under relentless attack, so will need to have strong community support to survive.

If she would listen, I would say: Don't you see what's happening? All your enemies (Cheney, Bush, etc.) are publicly lining up on the side with all my enemies (Pelosi, Schumer, Clinton, etc.). They always were in it together. Trump exposed them -- and you are cheering your demise.

The problem with Conservatism Inc is that it is in thrall to corporate interests who will gladly screw you to the wall regardless of the effect on profits and losses.

Just today, the Federalist is carrying a story about muh conservative groups in DC that are trying to keep Goolag, et al. out of anti-trust hot water and lobbying congress critters to do so. Course, these fine conservative organizations just like Nat. Review are taking Goolag's money to do so. In essence, paid whores is what they are.

It is time to use whatever leverage that red state governments have to essentially screw these companies at the state level. In states with initiatives, start up that machine to do just that. Big corporations hate you, want you dead and dishonored, and will use government to do so on their behalf. Just like the Terminator, they cannot be reasoned with as they do not care about you and yours.

Alex, you're thinking like a white collar professional. First of all, they're not running around with napalm. They're setting the town on fire with a flamethrower, and your entire profession has done jack shit to stop it.

Secondly, the reason for optimism is that there's no such thing as fuck you money. There's only fuck you people. The government could take away 90% of Trump's wealth and he'd be nowhere near his lowest point. If he had shot himself at certain points in the 1990s he would have provided a net economic boost to America. That's how much debt he claimed to have. Even if you took away every cent of his money, one guy with an assault rifle is worth more than a dozen hand wringing lawyers. And Trump has MILLIONS of people like that on his side.

Bitcoin's technical flaws aren't to do with integrity, it has to do with the way it implements blockchain and how energy and compute requirements to clear transactions (recompute the chain) grows unbounded while the number of Bitcoin units itself does not. It's a fundamental problem that will eventually, if it were to go mainstream, will cripple clearing times and willingness of network participants to clear transactions. (and yes, things like custom ASICs and optimized hardware help a lot, but it doesn't change the underlying exponential problems)

Other cryptos don't necessarily suffer the same problems. Overall, I have never been enthusiastic about cryptos and I see more risk, not less, for the near or intermediate future (not just Bitcoin).

Trump once said he had hoped to lose it all, for a time, to find out who his true friends were.

Trump must have meditated on that for some time in his heart, because God was listening.

God is using Trump as the hammer to smash every evil.

I have seen in my lifetime people unfairly maligned and smeared and pushed out. And within a matter of 8-10 years, those who committed the evil acts had their worlds come crashing down, even their grandchildren, which brought them bitter tears.

Just weeks ago I read about the represented who made Pelosi's case for impeachment -- go look him up -- and was reminded of the sins of the father are visited upon the son.

Only tragedy can come from this. But I pray for protection for the Trump family and all the generations that come after.

464 Lawyer story, probably true.
A guy walks in his lawye's office to pay on account.
Hands him a crisp $100 bill.
Lawyer notes it in his account book.
Guy walks out, and the lawyer notices that there are actually 2 crisp $100 bills, stuck together.
Question of ethics arise...
Should he tell his partner?

It's not an insult. It's very close to indisputable fact. If I asked most of the legal elite in this country if they think anyone who supports Donald Trump should be disbarred for sedition or expelled from Congress, the vast majority would clap their hands like barking seals. It's not merely that most of your profession is composed of hateful retards, it's that they've systematically removed any check on their behavior, including relatively free elections. There are only a few options left to remove them and none of them are pleasant. They'd better hope the real President pulls a rabbit out of his hat, or lots of cities are going to look like Baghdad.

489 427 Christopher Taylor,
I agree that asset forfeiture should be treated under due process requirements with the government bearing the burden of proof. That has not happened because all too often people on the right mostly have supported a War on Drugs with the idea that government would never do that to honest people, only criminals. Same point as Ace makes above, business would never discriminate against conservatives because of muh market, muh conservatives are good people, etc.

I grew up in a Democratic one party state, I have no illusions that too many people have about government and business (or other institutions) allying to persecute people.

Tit for tat is basically the only strategy here. The Democrats will always defect from following rules if it disadvantages their enemies. So, you have to make broad laws with self enforcement (via civil suits) to make them pay when they do so.

Think of it as a BitTorrent-like file sharing network of accounting ledgers (the blockchain), with each ledger containing some transactions from one account to another (wallets). When the current ledger page fills up, it is cryptographically signed so that its contents cannot be edited after the fact without everyone noticing the discrepancy. The computers that do this work are constantly searching for the magic numbers necessary to perform the cryptography, and when one gets found and used to sign a block of transactions the machine's owner is rewarded with some of the scrip the network operates on (mining). Key to the network's operation is that, like BitTorrent, each node is capable of existing on its own and all the data can be mathematically proven to be correct so it's highly resistant to outside interference.

I do agree with those who say that some of the second-gen altcoins (ETH) are more sensibly designed than Bitcoin, but they lack the name recognition and BTC remains the most spendable.

545 I have long agreed with the position (recently written about more widely) that "anti discrimination" laws were essentially Constitution 2.0, incompatible with the original document.
It has created a hodge-podge of "protected classes" and an insoluable confusion about what is "property" vs a "public accommodation" which has led to self-contradictory and arbitrary, and ultimately UNKNOWABLE rules.

The unknowable rules is the key part. It has created an environment in which the risk averse, i.e. nearly every person and business on the planet, especially the big ones, has to monkey with the outcomes to produce the desired %s of special pleaders in its upper ranks, or face uncertain, unpredictable liability from private and public sources.

We need to repeal all "anti discrimination" law --not that its ever going to happen. In the meanwhile, Ace's problem remains.

Don't think they need to worry so much. No future Trumps on the horizon, and the near-complete hollowing out of the institutions, sensibilities, civic culture means fending off any future semi-Trumps won't be very hard.

622 569 Zek,
FWIW, lawsuits based on civil rights violations section 1983 are very difficult to win due to qualified immunity doctrine. In IA, a christian group suing the U of I over discriminatory practices in their rules. Essentially, the appellate argument stemmed over whether or not the administrators knew or should have known that their actions were unconstitutional under the 1st Amendment. The state is given qualified immunity so that the plaintiff must demonstrate that the state actors knew the law and ignored it.

The whole qualified immunity scam was invented by the Rehnquist court in order to discourage lawsuits against police and prison guards. It has been extended to basically allow blatant unconstitutional actions by state actors who basically say, 'Oh, did I do something wrong?' and get away with it.

623 Well, they want to do it anyway - it's very easy to convince someone into doing something they were already planning to do.

So you are saying that the protests are the excuse, not the reason.

624 "Also it's pretty clear that they are drunk with power and want to humiliate him and his supporters and more than likely want to provoke a violent response."

Absolutely. They're going to keep pushing until all this rage gets uncorked, and then it's full on crushing of dissent.

That box that will shortly arrive at your door? The one with the angry bird sounds emanating from it? That is a very pissed off emu.

Real world experience with said bird shows 12 gauge flechette rounds work well.

626 @206 Pudding Head-Funny you mention the cuff-links. That was the first thing I noticed besides the Glock he capped her with.

The french cuffs/cufflinks and the big chunky beaded bracelet, name I've seen floating around is capitol cop David Bailey, who incidently was one of the cops shooting back at Dick Durbin's buddy that shot up the congressional ball game.

627 @622
I'm no 1983 expert, obviously, but I wonder if you get to the point that a private actor is acting "under color of law" (by colluding with government) whether the qualified immunity doesn't go away (as it's no longer an overt government actor).

Posted by: Zek at January 22, 2021 04:22 PM (w/5KC)

628 Lawyer story, probably true.
Posted by: MarkY

Depends, was he defending the guy on counterfeiting charges?

629 627, Zek, there are a line of precedents dealing with police informants and the like dealing with agency (when they become a government agent in effect) in search and seizure cases. Dunno it if has been applied to 1983 actions.

Fun Fact: Did you know the Justice Department has entire divisions dedicated to Voting Rights? No?

Neither do they.

632 "And would it be too unreasonable to ask that while we spend decades or centuries praying that perfect libertarian world into existence,"

Speaking of . . .
Ever notice how when you cut through the soundbites and appeals to the beliefs of other political parties, libertarian ideology is predicated on creating a utopia just as much as "progressive" ideology is?
Or "liberal" ideology.
Or "socialist" ideology.
Or communist ideology.
Or anarchist ideology.
Or just plain Marxist ideology.
And all with the same degree of presumptions of "universal" human behavior given the "proper" conditions.

And when you point that out, highlighting the flaws of the current iteration of the libertarian plan, other libertarians are right there to tell you how that is not "real" libertarianism, and not only are they not connected to it, but their version has a plan that is actually perfect, and completely rational, and not theoretical or hypothetical or anything at all.

634 Yeah Sam, libertarianism is all phoney. Not like GOPE-ism, or nice-boy Weepublicanism, or whatever you are stroking harder-harder-harder and faster up your ghey bunghole. Work that hate out. Hit yourself harder. GOD you wish you were a real man. But you're proud you don't have any hopes or dreams.

635 I have a suspicion there are other banks who would be happy to have the President invest in their money market accounts. The boards of these banks need to correct their principal-agent problems.

Note, Trump himself may be moving some money around. This could just be spin.

639 Undeniably believe that which you stated. Your favourite
justification appeared to be at the net the
simplest thing to remember of. I say to you, I definitely get irked even as people
consider worries that they just do not recognize about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and also outlined out the whole
thing with no need side effect , other people can take a signal.
Will probably be again to get more. Thanks
