19 Morning, Horde. Coffee is a-brewing. Awoke at 0600 to sound of someone knocking on door. Donned slippers and robe, went to door, nobody there. Furthermore, the motion-detector security light was off. I stepped out the door, and it came on right away, so pretty unlikely that anyone was there in the preceding 5 minutes or so that the light cycles. I must have dreamed the knocking.

Organized religion as a whole-yes. Individual churches-no
The church really didn't know what was happening in the beginning and they were trying to be accomodating and respect the medical people and if they had any- their hierarchy. I'm sure I've let people down but while we were closed we had online services (We can't do live streaming so we had do upload or download a brief service to the website. Then in May we started services outdoors and opened in July. I tried to keep regular contact with people who were older who don't do stuff online and then of course there were churches that didn't close or closed for as little as possible.

31 Fen - the part that upsets me is that the messaging from my church was the exact same happy clappy we're all in this together/stay safe/six feet apart/stop the spread messaging I got from every other email in my inbox. I wouldn't be nearly as frustrated if they had come right out and said that they were not willing to risk fines or jail time. Instead, I don't think my church even realized, much less publicly acknowledged, that the orders were unconstitutional and unbiblical. In the game of who goes Nazi, they "won".

I don't expect any better from people who listen uncritically to the media, or from my coworkers, but I do expect better from people who are supposed to be following the Lord.

I agree with you points. They should have been upfront in saying that. I said in a small group or to individuals that I thought the church (not my church but denominations as a whole) was concerned about lawsuits, but I am in covenant with the Bishop and I felt I shouldn't dismiss him publicly from the pulpit and he's treading new ground too.
I think you mentioned you sent an e-mail expressing your concerns and that's a positive thing. At some point hopefully churches will have learned a lesson from this and some people (not speaking of you personally) can forgive their leaders for not being perfect.

Your problem is the antiquated belief that things should be maintained and repaired, and that an industry should exist to support such things.

When is the last time you saw a TV repair shop?

121 There was a discussion here several weeks ago about grills. I honestly think this one has another couple of years before it needs to be replaced. The grates and infrared plates are the only things I've ever had to replace before. It's been 3 or 4 years since the last "repair job." If I source the parts for $120 or less with shipping included it's worth it.

Amazon does in fact have the grates, but no dice on the plates. CharBroil's website has them, but I'm a cheap bastard and won't pay $13 for 3 pieces of aluminum perforated with holes that in total might weigh 2 pounds to be shipped here. Yet.... I'll end up doing it anyway 'cuz there nowhere else to be found.

This summer, Refusefacism.org identified the enemy as white, Christian, Trump supporters. Refuse racism is Bill Ayers et.al. They are a storefront facade for Antifa. Now they're bringing it out into the open. Doesn't surprise me that they are slowly bringing the target into focus. They will tag us with the religious label and add extremist to obfuscate their true motive. Guess my question to the Sec. Def would be, " How's that been working for you?"?

Oddly enough though, if this includes Gov. Polis and all the county health officials in the state I could get behind this proposal.

Abject incompetence is not war mongering. It's abject incompetence.

Bush going into Iraq is somewhat questionable. Going into AFG is not. What's questionable is the lack of objectives that would lead to an exit strategy. In Iraq it was pure incompetence and putting people in charge like that buffoon Paul Bremer enabled an extension of the war, our presence and got men needlessly killed. AFG is just pure incompetence combined with the lack of an exit strategy. When we should have been grabbing people by the neck and doing things on our terms, we were kissing too much diplomatic ass. Let me guess that Gas tax increase will go to some boondoggle light rail system for Seattle that will be 5 years late and cost 400% more than estimated once the graft is handed out. Exporting a democratic form of government in many senses provides relative assurance we won't be back in the future. But you have to consider culture and history. This week I bought some Umiki Whiskey:

https://www.umikiwhisky.com/?language=en

It's one of those kinda sorta Japanese whiskies that have whiskies from elsewhere in the mix. It's aged in Japanese pine barrels and the add desalinated sea water from the area for terroir.
Not surprisingly, Umiki means ocean tree.
Anywho, it's a nice daily sipping whiskey. One review I read described it as tasting like you were drinking a young Speyside in a lumberyard. That's just about right with a bit of sea breeze on the nose.
It's about $45/btl. If it sounds like something you'd like, you probably will.

Posted by: Flyover.... at January 23, 2021 10:20 AM (Rbu5d)

It would be pretty easy, and inexpensive to rig an engraver using a Dremel tool. Build a stand for the Dremel to hold it vertically over a small table. An accessory stand for hand drill to use it like a drill press would be suitable, too. Make a small "puck" that can be easily slid around the table, with a recess and clamps to hold the workpiece. A foot pedal arranged to lower the Dremel to a stop would be very handy, too. Position the workpiece under the Dremel, with a small metal cutting burr chucked in it, start the motor, and then use the foot pedal to lower the bit into the work. Move the "puck" around freehand, and follow lines marked on the workpiece with a Sharpie.

Fifty dollars could build this.

"A large US military convoy entered northeastern Syria on Thursday, Syrian state news agency SANA reports, citing sources on the ground.

According to the report, the convoy included some 40 trucks and armored vehicles and was backed from the air by helicopters.

It entered Syria from Iraq via the al-Waleed crossing to bring arms and logistical equipment to the bases in Hasakeh and Deir Ezzor provinces.

Other local media report that such maneuvers are not unusual as the US often moves transfers equipment between Iraq and Syria.

At the same time, SANA also reports that some 200 US troops arrived in the Hasakeh province on helicopters."

Mainly wanted black tea not from China.
It arrived yesterday, in adorbs hipster packaging: little wooden boxes with sliding lids, graphic novel labels, etc.

But the tea is excellent and will be an occasional treat from now on.

Table Rock Tea Company, Ltd. in SC.

At one of them a dem rep from one of my soldiers home states told him the Democrats had always been the party that supported the armed services. That was more than I could bear and I gave her a basic training style ass chewing for lying to my soldier. She

413 Speaking of boycotts, there's a 1947 movie called "Captain Boycott" with Stewart Grainger, telling the story of the original Captain Boycott and how his tyrannical actions as a landlord led to the economic ostracism that now bears his name. It has some good British actors in it, including my favourite Alastair Sim. It's on YouTube.

Remember that the Whore of Babylon sits on 7 hills, which was pretty obvious code to everyone of the day. At the time it was written, it was taken to mean the Roman Empire. (which happened, it fell) After the Protestant Reformation, Protestants have mostly taken it to mean the Papacy. (sorry, but not kidding - I was taught that whenever the topic came up when I was a young'un)

And Frankie fits the part pretty well, doesn't he?

This means the gopE has blown their wad and the dem-tards will present their lies to the senate.
