Bill Sammon, Fox News' Managing Editor in DC and Patient Zero for Infecting the Network with NeverTrump AIDS, Announces His Retirement

Barely scratches the surface, of course.

Bill Sammon, Fox News Channel's senior vice president and managing editor in Washington, is retiring at the end of the month, a spokesperson confirmed to The Hill.

Sammon told staff during a morning meeting on Monday that he is leaving the network, where he has worked since 2008. It is not yet known if the position will be filled.

The Daily Beast article from Friday had a few details about who else might be on the Retire/Spend More Time with Family list.

"And the new year hasn't brought Fox News much positive ratings news either. Adding insult to injury, Newsmax once again beat the network in head-to-head ratings on Tuesday, this time topping Fox in the key demographic (viewers ages 25-54) during two separate hours.

...

Wallace, meanwhile, has been in hot water ever since Fox's decision desk accurately called Arizona for Joe Biden on election night--a matter of much internal consternation, often seen as a key reason a chunk of Trump-loyal viewers deserted the network for Newsmax.

Chris Stirewalt, the network's political editor who oversees the team that made the projection, has been missing from Fox's airwaves since mid-November.

This was not an accurate call. If they had an accurate sense of the race, they never would have called the race. You don't call a race in which millions of people have voted in which one guy supposedly has an 11,000 vote lead -- including many contested ballots.

The "too close to call" designation exists for a reason.

Fox News wasn't engaging in election analysis here, so much as wishful thinking and dreamcasting. Like many dying media companies, they decided to spurn their actual audience in favor of the political propaganda they personally wanted to push.

13 I think it's a good sign that a corporate media giant is trying to at least look like it's appealing to conservatives.

I don't care about FoxNews. I never have. Television news is all around unappealing to me. However, FoxNews saying, "We're conservative, and we want to be your voice" is a good thing to hear, even if it is probably disingenuous.

It means that someone somewhere understands that we are a market worth appealing to. May it catch on.

Yes. They did this in 2018, too. They were the first network to call the House for the Dems, and they did a lot of prophesying about the Senate. I dropped them in '18 over this, with an occasional Tucker Exception.

The people in charge were willing to destroy their property - the only valuable property in the non-Disney Fox empire - in a final act of demoralization. I am sure they were well compensated by their team for this act.

32 I feel like Ace's take here may give these guys a bit too much credit, as if they nobly sacrificed their own personal interests un keeping a lucrative audience for their (admittedly horrible) political ideology. No, that's not what happened in my view. Rather, they judge, probably correctly, that virtue signaling that they are in submission to the left is in their own personal, financial, and social interest. They saw that Trump was going to lose, and they thought, let's take this chance to let our leftist overlords know that our wives are available to them.

They never actually said that. Remember, their tag line was always "fair and balanced." They were thought to be conservative because they allowed conservatives to at least be on the screen, both in their guests and their on-screen personnel. So there was nowhere else to go for half of the country. Now that they've blown that trust, it will take a long time to rebuild it. More legs and flags.

Those two audiences are mutually exclusive.

I'm a cynic, but I suspect Newsmax will be a normal center-left network within 12 months. They picked up all of Fox's viewership that chose to go somewhere else. There are only three choices for Fox's former audience:
1) No bid. Don't replace it.
2) Newsmax
3) OAN

Those in group #1 don't matter - it's just straight loss and they're now in a different game. Of the remainder, group #2 are dominant. Newsmax won.

So I am willing to bet that Newsmax will be in the same position as antebellum Fox News: a center-left (to soft-left) news outfit with some conservative commentators so they can continue their subversion more or less where they left off.

I'd like to be wrong, but I kind of doubt I am.

Another MAJOR problem with our useless media is competition for bragging rights on who was first to call an election, first to tell the masses if they need to worry, or panic, or kiss their asses goodbye, and to be first on on-air on everything. This is why we get "journalists" telling the viewers a shooter or bomber is a right-wing nut job, when he's actually a left-wing nut job with the same name. Who cares if we were wrong! We were first with some info that informed our despised viewers!

This is probably unpopular with many folks but I'm happy that Trump decided against using force to fight Xiden's fraudulent win. I think old fashioned American spirit is much more suited to being underground resistance than holding power by government force.

Of course I am still sad that the courts and GOPe refused to stand up for justice and truth. The country could have handled leftist tantrums, but I don't think it would have survived the good guys holding power by force.

I mean, where are the damned sandwiches, Mr. President? These people need sandwiches, not promises. For those who haven't driven through the area after a profoundly terrifying GPS accident like I have, Temple is smack in the middle of The Motherfucking Ghetto.

--------

It's darkly funny. When I visited Temple about 15 years ago, they had a double-cordon of city and state cops patrolling around the campus to keep the zoo animals away from the tuition payers, and then 2-3 panic buttons per block so that if one got through, you could keep hitting them as you run to help direct the police to you. I presume so they could arrest the guy feasting on your viscera by the time they arrive.

It's kind of like an IRL video game.

++++
I toured Temple when I was looking at colleges in, I think, 2002 (maybe 2003). Like all college campuses by that point, they had these big pillars with piercing blue lights and big red panic buttons on them. They summon the cops to the location, and are common.

At Temple, though, they had a *lot* of them. Every junction, every corner and even at midpoints along longer or more-traveled routes. Unlike other schools, they also extended beyond the perimeter of the campus and into the city. I asked the tour guide why they had so many.

She explained - very excitedly, and I am sure with a script - that they had so many because if you're being pursued, you can just hit them as you run and their big computer system back at HQ would calculate the most probably routes so they could dispatch cops to intercept you during your fleeing.

Sure, it's a fancy and impressive system but there is no way to spin its existence as a good thing to kids and parents touring your campus...

Of course the other spending will never get reduced. And the new payments would undoutably balloon to absurd levels that the tax base could never support.

Agree.

I think that Tucker is the best of a bad lot, but I'd given up on Fox 20 years ago and they've given me no compelling reason to watch them since. That said, Tucker is a company man who just signed a big contract extension.

The reason he'll always tow the company line to some extent is that he remembers being summarily canceled from Crossfire after Jon Stewart went on the show in bad faith (from Stewart, not Tucker) and destroyed it after one appearance. Tucker was in the MSM wilderness from that point until Fox picked him up. He's at the top of the heap now, and Stewart is enjoying his retirement in irrelevance. He'll stay on as long as possible to extract every ounce of revenge from that slight.

Never-Trump virtue signaling is seen as a way to rise in social status. Among other things, it's seen as a commodity that can be exchanged for praise and economic security.

People who get a taste of that will not readily give it up. Lab rats with an electrode connected to the pleasure center of the brain and a button they can push.

This goes double for someone who is low-achieving and undistinguished otherwise.

Or Soundgarden. Most people have not heard Nirvana's first album, thinking Nevermind was the first. Bleach and In Utero are both from SubPop which had the worst sound quality and production values of any studio on earth. But the raw talent is there and the songs are good.

RHCP ironically signalled that corporate control, for that year when "Under the Bridge" was on every radio station 24/7/365.

425 I was grad student at a school when a girl got murdered.

Her parents were well off, and made it a mission to increase school security. It was a real tragedy.

The story was that a football scholarship student would go to the dorms and rob shit. Doors would be propped open so it was easy, and on the dorms kids often left doors unlocked. One Saturday night he found a drunk girl in one of the rooms, raped and killed her, and then bragged about it to his friends.

There was a hotel party on the floor below, and her friends put her in the room without locking it. She was passed out drunk when they did that.

So (a) he was a student, and (b) it had nothing do to with locks since there is nothing easier than for a student to get into a large dorm.

It had to do with (a) scholarships to people who were not students, but professional ball players, and (b) rampant, out of control, on campus, underage drinking.

It was sad to see these poor liberal parents, whose world was destroyed, go on a campaign to improve door locks at schools.

Not Hole. They wouldn't write *or* play their own stuff. Their only remotely accessible album - Celebrity Skin - was mostly written by Bill Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins) and those tracks are *all* the standout performances on the album (and I don't especially like the Smashing Pumpkins). The tracks that *weren't* written by Corgan for them are exactly like the Hole that came before it - discordant, inscrutable and generally unpleasant.

From that era, I think STP and Alice in Chains are the standouts. Those groups kicked a lot of ass. Soundgarden was killer, too, but I prefer Audioslave as far as Chris Cornell vehicles go.

463 434 I was thoroughly consumed by Nirvana during my teen years. I've been on a huge grunge kick and man alive, STP, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Smashing Pumpkins, all superior in certain ways. Cobain could write a song but every other band could write a song AND play.

Great era.

STP was pummeled relentlessly during that period as unoriginal, a Pearl Jam imitator, blah, blah, blah, and to me it holds up better than any other grunge band. I thought at the time and still do it was the best of the lot, far better than either Pearl Jam or Nirvana. AIC is right there with it.

I saw 'em in 2001 and loved it. I wasn't as big of a fan of their records after that point - they went the AC/DC route and kept making the same album, mostly. I thought it was a decent show, and they covered Rush's "Cygnus X-1" which was like they were playing a show just for me. (I only found out later that Dave and Taylor are Rush superfans).

I got to see Nirvana about 8 months before Cobain realized he was married to Courtney Love and ended it all. Good show. The opener was the Wipers, a Sub Pop band that never made it, and they weren't very good.

541 The best Team Joe can do for TransSexuals /Yay! in the new Administration is Assistant Secretary of Health and Human Services?

Wut?

The UniParty-Media Complex insists there are more transsexuals in the USA than gray squirrels, so how come one of those ultra-talented people isn't given a really important job?

544 Fox News was in on the fix. They made sure President Trump never led, and stalled calling the swing states because they knew they would be stolen at 3 am..

Fuck those traitors.

After seeing that i took Daily Beast off my favorites list.

547 Fox called Arizona because they knew there would be enough fraud to cover it. Really the only explanation.
