A Hellertown woman accused of stealing cigarettes and Mentos from a gas station convenience store tried to flee in an ambulance, but couldn’t drive it, borough police said. Antoinette Froilan, 19, was stopped by police early on the afternoon of Jan. 7 after she got out of the ambulance, and was arrested once a store employee identified her as the thief, police said. First, a married couple I've been friends with for years, and who are super-conservative to boot, told me today they're expecting their first child, which is awesome. I have no doubt they'll be great parents, and they're not the type to tell the kid "live your own truth."
Second, another friend of mine, kind of a moderate and not politically involved, called me out of the blue this evening to ask me if there was anything to this claim that massive voter fraud had occurred. Apparently his wife's aunt had been going on about it. So I told him there was; he initially responded with an disbelieving "Really!" but after listening to me lay out the case for a few minutes, he just said, "huh." He's not the type to go out in the streets and march, which is probably a good thing, but I definitely swayed his views of the "election" to an extent.
That's what it takes, I guess.

Hell at least over half the country or more is playing and they still can't come up with a winning ticket.
i get why people do it, but you would be better off taking everything, going to a casino and betting on black. or you could find a good penny stock and bet it will be a three bagger. But the idea of wining the lottery is fun but also a waste. Sure some can afford it, but you are betting on something that is near impossible. If you look at the actual numbers and payouts, it is the worst bet imaginable.

But the most positive thing I knew about GA in the last 30 years was the Dem Sam Nunn. Sure there were Repubs but it was the Dems that stood out,. including Zell Miller. I get GA was cheated and if nothing else, conservatives lost every semblance of control. So basically they got worked. That sucks, but still in some ways it is on them. When someone defeats you in a contest of any kind, you need to try to figure out how they found the path to victory and you did not. But for GA to do a threefer so quickly is pretty damn sad. I get it Taq, Not criticizing you by a long shot. It is fun to at least have a chance. But the odds are so bad that they are the biggest hit and hope ever. What does bother me is the many at convenience stores that spend so much simply to give there money in the way in the end.
Casinos are the same way really. In fact, they have figured out how to give worse odds to the most easy to try games. If the game is the least intimidating, it invariably has the worst odds.

I am not an expert here, but this is what i recall from study back in the day.
Blackjack, int the right circumstances, can be almost an even bet. But that requires perfect conditions, with a single deck, and flawless basic strategy if not at least a moderate ability to card count. After there the best odds in order were Craps (played flawlessly), Baccarat, Roullete and slots. The key was the less intimidating the game, the worse the odds. And now there are so many bs games and I bet anything their odds are worse. Now people want "fun and something different" It makes me think of that casino in Vegas Vacation.

I think that started around Desert Storm. I know in that time half the US Army's combat units were in the National Guard. And there are Air Guard units with more flying time than some regular units. I recall aviators that used to bitch about how much air time NG units got. They also have SF units, something I doubt many know about.

The National D-Day Memorial at Bedford VA is a must see. i have made a few reccos here over the years and stand by them all. Some have been over little things like socks and shaving razors. But the museum at Bedford is my top recommendation. I would go in good weather but not way is that not a site that all should experience. The nice part is there is a ton of history nearby if you get a book and go exploring.

I have no idea what you meant here, but the odds of winning a given lottery don't change based on the size of the pot, it's dependent about the number of balls in the hopper when they draw numbers.
The odds of being the *sole* winner are better with a smaller pot, but it's because fewer tickets are sold. Even so, if the base pot is $20m, and rollover has it at $200m for example, the odds of ten winners to balance the size of the pot are negligable.
Since the expected value of a ticket is the odds of winning times the pot (plus some factors I ignore for matching partial sets of numbers), I go for super villain pots on the theory that the expected value of the ticket is near (and sometimes greater than) what I pay for it. But that possibility of even a few winners throws a wrench in the calculation.

I hear what you are saying. And I have a serious no math policy here. Sure the odds of hitting a certain number are the same. But also when the lottery goes mainstream and gets so much play their are more tickets than Americans, the chances of winning it alone, by yourself are seriously diminished. I completely get that some bets are more valid win the pay off is so high, your bet is technically sound, although it is likely to never pay off in thousands of years.

There has been for a number of years now, an entirely legal means for them to skim a hefty 15% of all their campaign contributions into their pocket by setting up their own 'media buy' companies, through a wife, or other family.
The bigger the office, the bigger the campaign $$$$$$. Multi millions usually, so 15% is huge.
Every 2 years for congresscritters, every 6 for senators. Senator campaign $$$$$$ are what, $500M or so now?
Obviously, that's not enough.

as I said before, the odds suck and even if they make sense when the jackpot gets so high, they still have no real meaning. Nothing against people who buy a ticket, I have been doing it recently myself. But I know you would be much better off going to a roullette table and betting on black. I wouldn't advise that either of course.

I laugh at lotteries, the odds are so ridiculous, but my understanding
of "pot odds" kicks in on the really big pots, if you're in a poker game
and the pot is hundreds of millions of dollars and it only costs you $5
to call, no matter what your cards you have to call. Someone's going to
win and the risk/reward ratio is tempting. One ticket only, the rare
flutter at a monster pot.

You cannot win if you don't buy into the game, but you need to buy only one ticket (per drawing) to have a stake in the outcome. If you limit yourself to buying tickets only when the jackpot is up to some crazy high (by your own standards) value, you limit your expenditure on lottery tickets, which is a tax.
People who buy mitt-fulls of tickets in the hope of "improving their odds" are deluded. Just as bad as the dupes who buy stacks of scratch-and-lose tickets.

I always buy two tickets at a time (when I bother to buy any at all). You double your odds by buying two instead of one, which is the highest incremental increase. Each additional ticket raises your odds less than the previous one proportionally. For example, 1 -> 2 tickets is a 100% increase, 2 > 3 is a 50% increase, 3 -> 4 is a 33% increase, 4 -> 5 only a 25% increase, and so on.

You're also doubling your cost, which is the largest marginal increase a single ticket can be.
The problem with the lotto is even with an EV a bit higher than the ticket price, unless you're buying millions of them you're extremely unlikely to ever break even over your lifetime. And that's without accounting for split jackpots and the massive hit to EV those cause.

I agree. It is a big thing in Texas as much o the hunting land is private. Some ranch owners have rams, and to be honest some really off the charts animals. i am not going to get into it but it does happen or used to happen.
it reminds me of that Any Griffith espisode where they went fishing and were charged for the fish. They realized the pond was stocked and the fish had no chance at all. I am not saying that is always the case in South Texas by a long shot, it depends on the lease and what is going on. Sure there are some who raise wildlife to be hunted but there are many others how simply have large holdings and lease the rights to hunt them.

specific rights. We hunted on military bases as that was the norm for
us. There was not baiting, not dogs, and for me at least, no stands. It
took years but I figured out the craft as I wanted to do it. I got two
dear on successive opening days. I learned the hard way that the big key
was being there on opening day or at least in the first week.
Not
crapping on what others do but those that pay for exotic big game are
not doing what I was into. I do know they rent off dove hunting land in
South Texas and that is fair game, so to speak. That is where they
migrate at a certain time and everyone goes down there for a good dove
hunt.

Advantage there, you get the season, and not just a weekend. And no other hunters on your lease. MUCH of Texas is not seriously huntable sand either blinds or feeders. Doubt me? Yeah. Let me send you on a ground hunt for deer in the brush around Hebbronville, TX. Shit so thick that ranchers hesitate to send dogs in to track wounded deer. Remington even once sold a "Sendero" rifle set up for hunting on those lands.

I have family that raises chickens and other exotic birds i guess, among many other critters. They pay a real toll with the foxes, it is not joke, they wake up one day and a bunch are wiped out. These guys would shoot a fox at moments notice. And I believe they are open game year round.

not complaining Jim. But as a Texan, I know there are lands that can be hunted with exotic animals, or at least that used to be so. I also know guys who wold hunt in Llano County in stands that were either fixed or built off their trucks. They used to pass up 30 or 40 deer a day to pick the exact one they would harvest.
Not criticizing here but it is so far from the hunting I used to do that the pursuits are barely the same. I know I hunted five years without seeing a dear. I saw one but realized I couldn't tell if it was a buck or not. That was the day I got glasses.

to say it is complicated is an understatement. What is taught to most if it is even still taught that way is such a cursory presentation that it really teaches nothing. Sure Lincoln broke a lot of laws and suspended the Constitutiion to many. But so did the CSA in the end. They were supposed to be about state's rights, but they gave those up at every turn, trying to win the war.
It is a complicated history to say the least. I would
be happy to get into a deeper dive here if people are interested in it. I
don't have the answers but I at least have a view based on study of the

in my opinion, it was less that many think. Sure the USA had more of both, bt they were not invading the USA, they were invading the CSA. I believe the CSA had about 1/3 of the railroad track the USA had. But the issue was the CSA didn't have to take any Union land, they only wanted to be left alone. Sure they invaded twice, but those were tactical moves, not wars of conquest.
The USA did have more of everything, but that was always so. That doesn't lead to victory in this context. The UK had more of everything but they lost to the Americans not even a century earlier. Same with the US in Vietnam. The key was which side would get tired of the war and give up first. That as the CSA high up strategy. Not conquest, or anything else. They wanted to inflict so much pain the other side said enough. And the USA almost did that three times. In the end, they won because they did not say F it.

idea is simply not true. Sure they had amateur armies, on both sides.
The US Army was something like 15,000 before the war and during that
war, around 3 million served. But the they had no clue how to fight and
did is wrong grinds my gears. It is a historical.
It was a horrific war to the extent many don't get. The battle of
Shiloh is likely not known by 90 percent of Americans, but when it
happened early in the war, there were more Americans casualties than all
previous American wars combined. And they were just getting started.

We had a meeting of our pragmatic group last night. Good people. Some elected officials, in our failed clear and hold strategy, and some out of office.
We will pursue a binary track. Those with stature will work within the flawed GOPe, trying to reform it. Others, like me, will work outside of it.
My top three issues for reform:
1) Fix voting.
2) Stop the kleptocracy with school funding.
3) Work on a regional compact with OK and Texas.

Second, very few of them have ever done anything productive in their lives. They have no idea how to innovate or problem solve.
The intersection of those two issues above will be their undoing. A currency collapse will be extremely ugly, but will also drive renewal in this country, including belief in God once again.

Diversity over merit is a cancer. The school I fund with my taxes is sorta OK by comparison because it is rural. I know two effective school board members. Out of 5. The State corrodes education by controlling what is taught.

Ron Paul does a little bit on how other nations ended slavery without
civil war. My Illinois history is all about Lincoln as the pure hero,
but I still think Lincoln mostly "kept the nation together", but also
established the federal bureaucracy over federalism and states' rights.
And as with this theft of election, he broke a lot of laws to do it. ---
We now (in some ways) again face centralized corporate powers, selling
out the blue collar American. ... and they again, don't really care
about the slaves .. which are now in China. They want another civil war,
or they already waged it maybe.
