Report: Bitch McConnell Wants Impeachment, Sees It As Chance to Purge the President (and Purge the non-Establishment GOP)

Like an old country song says: When you're not serving, that's me not voting.

Jonathan Martin
@jmartNYT
NEW: McConnell believes Trump committed impeachable offenses, believes the attack on Capitol gives Rs a chance to purge the president

and...

McCarthy has asked colleagues if he should urge Trump to resign, is open to a censure

w
@maggieNYT

McConnell is said to be pleased about impeachment, believing it will make it easier to purge Trump...

ALSO: Biden called McConnell yesterday and asked if Senate could dual track impeachment trial and cabinet confirmations.

Far from telling Biden he would not discuss the impeachment, McConnell said he would check with the parliamentarian and get back to Biden.

McCarthy has cycled through just what can be done about Trump, approached Hoyer about a censure and said he could deliver a lot of R votes.

But the deal was: Democrats had to back off impeachment.

They're not going to do that with Mitch the (China Communist Party) Bitch on board with impeachment.

This is not about Trump. This is not about "restoring civility."

That is a lie.

This is about restoring orthodoxy -- the GOP's determination to sacrifice voters' interest for donors' demands.

They are fighting to make sure no one will every challenge the GOPe again.

They've been telling me for ten years that they want no voters except for top corporate CEOs, activist investors, and hedge fund managers, and I didn't believe them.

I believe them now.

Now they are attempting to make sure no one like him ever rises again. Making him an example.

Can't have a representative in a representative democracy actually representing the will of the people, now can you?

I think this is somewhat correct, Trump helped the establishment GOP, for whatever reason, and it's clear he miscalculated. However, I don't think 'we', for given values of 'we', are tied to Trump. Trump is the tool that at this moment represents populist interests, but that's all he is, a tool.

We will find other tools if we must. But I doubt the GOPe will find many voters interested in their country club conservative platform. Shrug emoji.

130 The GOP is totes OK with permanent minority status as long as Bitch and Greasy Smile can grift and graft smaller portions. I decided two weeks ago to accommodate the Republicans. This is literally telling 90 percent of "their" party members to FOAD, only not disguised as needing a super majority to promote a single shared interest. We crawled back so many times they think threats of divorce are hollow. I can see why. McConnell habitually has torpedoed candidates who defeated his choices in primaries because he knows how much voters loathe him; he clings to power only if toadies like Thune can be re-elected. Mitch is just about Mitch, McCarthy is just about McCarthy. Fair enough.

We will have to take the hit a couple of cycles, but the Republican Party has to be scuttled and replaced. The only consolation is the serious damage the Left will do will happen in the next two years, it will enormous, and only a party that advocates for separation or reform that dissolves a centralized government will be adequate to receive my vote, anyhow. Maybe Rove will make tremendous gains with illegals granted amnesty in 2021. They are natural conservatives, right?

Americans tried with Trump. GOP not only didn't listen, but actively undercut and backstabbed him, and by extension, us. Now they actively helping Progressive punish the R base.

As I said a few threads back, I think that legally, Rudy and Trump can't do shit. He had to relinquish the contents of the drive that were illegal (child Pr0n) or classified. Anything else I would assume could open him up to law suits. They simply cannot withstand the entire weight of the feds coming down on them. And that's what would happen. They'd never see daylight again.

IF we had a non corrupt DOJ and FBI and CIA and NSA and on and on, this would have been out a year ago. But we don't. 278 If they go ahead with an impeachment trial in the Senate, Trump should boycott the proceedings entirely. He'd be out of office by then, anyway, and it's not like he'd be given a fair trial in any event. Treat it as the farce it is and with the contempt it deserves.

Let them "convict" their political rival in absentia after conspiring with tech oligarchs to censor him and corporate America to demonetize him. That's late Republican Rome shit right there--a high tech proscription, if you will.

How did it turn out for Sulla? How does history remember him? If I remember my Roman history correctly, it wasn't long before a populist far more powerful than the Grachii or Marius rose up and brought down the whole corrupted, rotten-to-the-core political system. We now await our American Caesar.

Posted by: It's me donna at January 12, 2021 06:16 PM (Zmnko)

It must go to the Senate for trial. The Senate decides the rules and procedures for its impeachment trials. If Mitch has 51 votes, he can get the rules changed to anything, such as a trial consisting of CJ John Roberts gaveling-open the the trial, the clerk reading the bill of impeachment into the record, and Roberts calling for an immediate vote. One hour trial, tops. Likely less. As for Trump presenting a defense: Only if the Senate's rules allow it.

Actually not true, In the case of Nixon v. US, an impeached judge argued that he should have had his trial before the whole Senate, not a committee. The Supreme Court rejected his appeal due to political question but did have a caveat. Obiter dicta reasoning (because Nixon received a full amount of due process in the House and Senate plus had already been convicted of charges in a criminal trial), in the case argued that both the House and Senate would have to grant basic due process rights to the accused which generally means statements under oath, right to attorneys to present the case, contest the evidence against them, and so on even in impeachments.

We are back to Dennis Prager's assessment that there are 2 parties, the Evil Party (dems) and the Stupid Party (reps).

Did they not see how many votes (75 million and that's after maybe 10-15 million more were stolen) President Trump got? Did they not see how many ordinary citizens went to DC on a cold January day because he asked them to? This is just the dems working to split up the rep party, and the idiot reps are taking the bait.

A year from now, when the economy is in complete freefall and we are STILL in house arrest, there will be more people taking a second look at how much fun it is to be a peasant locked in your home, while the elite 1% continues with their lives and laughs at you openly.

Because if we know he's coming back, we WILL make sure they cannot cheat again. Even after giving amnesty to 30M illegals, it won't be in the bag.

And that march in DC scared them even more. They're all batshit insane. And they're mistakenly thinking if they get rid of Trump, they'll get rid of what he stood for. They're about to have 4 years they think will play like Obama instead of Macbeth. Half of America (more, really) hate them and know what they did.

How do you know he actually won? We now have absolutely no way of double-checking any election since Dominion voting machines were introduced. There's no way to be certain that any race is held honestly and the winner actually received enough genuine legal votes to win.
This calls into question a lot of elections during the past few years. If you thought there was no way so-and-so could've won some election, you're probably right. But who's in power?

On Monday, Sung, Apple's global security director Thomas Moyer, businessman Harpreet Chadha, and sheriff's Capt. James Jensen were arraigned remotely by Judge Eric Geffon, and pleaded not guilty to bribery charges first announced in November. Geffon denied a defense motion to seal the transcripts of the grand jury proceedings.

According to the indictment, Sung and Jensen are accused of extracting a donation of 200 iPads from Moyer to hasten the release of concealed gun permits for four executive security agents protecting Apple CEO Tim Cook. Sung is separately charged with holding up a gun license for Chadha so he would donate his wife's company suite for Smith to celebrate her latest re-election.

In 2017, Moyer, Eric Mueller, senior director of security operations at Apple, and James Neidig, executive protection director, began looking into obtaining CCW licenses for its team that protects CEO Tim Cook, according to testimony from Mueller and Neidig, both of whom were granted immunity from criminal prosecution.

The shortest distance between two political points is rarely a straight line.

May as well cut out the middlemen ( Graham, McConnell and other assorted cowards) , and play the long game and eventually get someone in with Trump DNA.

544 Politics is quite simple. You reward your friends and you punish your enemies.

If McConnell betrays you, you vote him out of power. You primary him. If he wins the nomination, you vote 3rd party, and live with a D from Kentucky for 6 years. Next election, you elect a Good R. So in six years, you will have a Good R, and no McConnell.

Anything else, is stupidity.

551 To run counter to the cry here, I saw an intersting question that maybe McConnell is exploring: if it's true that the Senate can do no other business while considering impeachment... then that's his filibuster. How long will Biden want to waste on impeaching Trump when that means no confirmations, no bills, no agenda getting done?

Drag out the trial as long as possible: months, even. If so, this will be a massive own goal by the Democrats.

Course, that all depends on whether they can force the impeachment trial to be the only thing considered. Then I hope it takes 22 months.
