That's why I said it's really a state-by-state thing. $150k really is barely scraping by in the bay area. I laugh when I see real estate prices in other states. And why it's interesting to see the people who get transferred out here in absolute shock at the prices. My old company once offered me a different job. It would have required moving from Denver to Silicon Valley. As much as I don;t want to do that on general principles, I turned it down flat when they offered me an 8% bump in pay. Moving from moderate-high COL Denver to brutally high COL Silicon Valley (not to mention all of the things there that are detrimental to quality of life) for a bump that didn't even cover half of the difference was a non-starter.

Oh yeah, why I'm dying to get the fuck out of here. I'd be pretty well off by selling off the real estate, buy a place outright, and have enough to live on as a worse case scenerio. Cost is relative, you don't need to make half a mil a year if the house you live in costs $200k, and taxes are low. CA has so many GD little taxes and taxes on taxes it's incredible. I'm tired of living in a third world country and paying penthouse prices for it.

99 Once you've got your housing costs taken care of, it's not that expensive here in S.F. You just don't eat or drink at retail. No big deal if cost is an issue. There really was so much to do here (within 2 - 3 hours drive) all year round. Reno's 4-5 hours if you want to actually throw dice at the craps table (esp. if you bet wrong way -- that's when the fun starts).

Pretty sure he's had 5 kids by 3-4 different women in recent years, so the appeal is still there.

I suspect that he's taking these off-brand roles, including being the sociopath murderer in the HBO series, because with his age, he's no longer offered nor expected to be the cute rom-com dude. He seems to be enjoying this freedom to be the bad guy.

131 Speaking of reprobates, I only discovered yesterday that Peter Nygard had been arrested, on December 17.

So, to recap: Jean-Luc Brunel, the french Epstein, was arrested in france on December 16. Nygard, the Canadian Epstein, was arrested in Canada on the 17th.

These designations are not exaggerated. If anyone thinks Epstein was the only one in this business, they are sorely mistaken. Nygard is a big shot in the fashion industry, and has his own island in the Caribbean.

Brunel has a modeling agency, and basically operated out of france only, I think.

I'm a bit concerned that Nygard is likely to be extradited to the U.S., to face federal charges here. I could EASILY see this whole thing going away, in a Biden era.

For now. The 'Rona forced a lot of remote work and enterprises figured out that for a lot of job functions, this is okay. The technology is there to deal with it, and management is catching up on figuring out decentralized workforce.

But there is also the possibility - and perhaps even likelihood - that the problems with large-scale distributed work-from-home workforces aren't known yet and will manifest will time. As we have generally over-corrected (under force, but nonetheless) with 'Rona-related remote work, when those weaknesses become known it may well over-correct in the other direction.

If you are a remote worker (especially a recently-converted one) and you move to a cheaper area, there are two things to keep in mind:
1) Your company may cut your pay (my old firm did this)
2) Things may change again, and you need to be prepared to live the way you want on the locally prevailing salaries if push comes to shove

They're trying to unperson people, like the good little Hitler Youth they are. Burn it to the fucking ground. Then get out the back hoes and dig deeper. Dump them in, and pour tons of salt. Salt it like the Romans.

The key about Mutually Assured Destruction was that the threat was real. You attacked, you were getting attacked back. It wasn't kicking some guy's kidneys while they were on the ground.

They're already going nuclear. To make sure the serfs and peons never ever dare to touch their shoes with grubby, dirt-stained hands. They're making a mistake, drunk with power. It depends. Property taxes are highly local in most places, so it will vary by city and county. Sales taxes can become obscene, but not always. Where I am moving (Tennessee), there is no income tax and yes, sales taxes are high. Those sales taxes, though, are capped. The state gets its cut, and localities can also impose sales taxes but only so much. It usually ends up being about 9.5% or 10%. This is quite a bit, but if I compare it to where I live now, it isn't.

Take the Denver suburb of Littleton, CO. The state sales tax is 2.9%. Littleton's sales tax rate is 7.25%. That means shopping there costs you 10.15% - on top of the 4.63% state income tax (flat tax).

When you get right down to it, Congress is just a building with a bunch of folks in it who thing they run everything, but they really are just a building with a bunch of folks in it.
Their biggest fear is that too many will realize that it is all just one big Potemkin Village, and they are just mortals. The "riot" at the Capitol had the biggest threat that it would reveal that they are mortal beings.
I particular will point out "Cocaine Mitch" who snapped back the quickest to defend the institution before the people, even before the "riot".

Remote work for white collar jobs was already happening. Slowly but surely. The Rona just accelerated it by a decade. It is win win for all. Employers save money on real estate costs, employees save money in housing and commuting costs. Plus the invaluable time saved not being in a car or a subway for 2 hours every day.

I work with a team of about 25 people located all over the country in all 4 time zones. We have always been remote to each other. Only diff now is everyone is remote from home instead of remote from an office. With email, chat, Zoom, etc there is zero need to be in a building physically. This genie is not going back in the bottle.

He said he think CA's going to be in trouble, I reminded him that 10 years ago the legislative analyst (CA version of CBO) estimated that HALF of the state's deficit* was attributable to 5,000 households departing CA. A state at that time of 33M+, and *5K* tax returns going away caused HALF of the deficit.

GPUs are *very* good at processing blockchains. GPUs are processors but they are designed to do a huge amount of work in parallel (such as rendering millions of polygons to put graphics on a screen). They can be programmed for non-graphics work, and NVIDIA (a major graphics chip manufacturer) has embraced this by making their programming interfaces available for arbitrary workloads. This also really big in the AI space, for the same reasons that they're popular for blockchain computation. A good GPU will wildly outperform a good CPU for a variety of tasks.

Bitcon's problem - and it is not inherent to the blockchain concept - is that because it is finite, the reward (newly "minted" bitcoins) shrinks as computation power to compute changes to the blockchain increases, and they do so in inverse exponential functions. This is catastrophic, and it is why Bitcoin will ultimately fail.

The FBI (allegedly) has ALL the video and file data from Epstein's properties. Too much of this is hidden, and will likely remain so. At this point though, with a Biden administration, I expect a lot of this to just wash away.

It's a trade-off. Moving a few million bucks in gold is riskier. The bulk of bitcoin traffic outside of currency speculators is people avoiding capital controls; it's not a buy and hold sort of currency. As a tool, think of it more like a cashier's check, but without the eyes of the bank and their government involved.

As far as I'm aware, GPUs are no longer the hot thing for *coin mining, they've moved on to customized ASICs. The current shortage of GPUs is because nobody could get China to ship anything in quantity before December, and it was dicey even then. In reality, he's gonna wind up like the guy who gets shitfaced at a sleazy strip joint, then wakes up in an alley with no wallet and $10,000 put on his credit card.

I'm sure that OCrazyHo has a long and practiced history of feigning sexual interest in customers until the moment the tip money has actually changed hands. Those of us who are older than 19 years (or aren't brutally stupid, like THE Cuck Wilson) learn to spot waitresses like that early on.

Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at January 11, 2021 01:48 PM (UZVEt)

Joe I thought the opposite was true, that because the easy Bitcoins are gone, and the high cost of generating a new one, keeps the quantity constant. Unlike US deficit spending, which generates literally trillions of new dollars from thin air, that dilutes existing dollar value.
So the value of a Bitcoin goes up and down on demand, not flooding the market with new Bitcoins.
Now, the US dollar is backed by the US government, and ultimately, the US military.
Bitcoin value is only based on the belief that it will remain. But can't be easily diluted.

Precisely nowhere did the investigation go. Did not have high hopes for Barr because of his previous stint where he cleaned up the Feeb's sniper incident, the whole Boys Club Omaha issue in the late 80's and 90's, and helped with covering up the Inslaw steal. For example, Neil Bush is the counterpart of Hunter as the bagman for the Bush family. Go back and look up Silverado S&L scandal.
Basically, the working part of Feebs intel, countintel, etc. are in too deep with illegal searches, covering up asset's crimes such as Whitey Bulger's and others, and so on. The informant and undercover ops that go too far require those in the DOJ and other alphabet agencies to cover it up. Eventually, the whole institution is built with people who are either actively criminals or those covering up for them.

Go back and watch the Untouchables where Sean Connery tells Kevin Costner how the cow ate the cabbage in Chi town.
I've been around enough intel folks in the past to stay away from them--you will often find a resident recruiter for the deep state at universities in the faculty working to identify and cultivate new talent.

Yes, this. The problem with too many righties (no longer conservatives, BTW, because what is left to conserve)* is that we get suckered with elaborate stories that there is some larger game in play. Guess what...there never is on our side. Our "elites" are politicians that value their jobs, speaking engagements, and cocktail parties in a liberal city (DC).

Their elites are not just the politicians (who are just as shitty), but the vast bureaucracy of academia, tech, etc. People that actually commit time to changing the world and are ruthless in doing so.

Righties just want to be left alone. This asymmetry is what lets them run laps around us over and over again. It's time for people to wake up and fight (figuratively). We need to invest the time and effort in fixing things, not listening to bullshit stories on the internet and waiting for a white knight to solve things.

385 295 I am beginning to think that everyone who irrationally opposed MAGA and Trump were diddling children.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: I don't believe in Q, but I do believe the general concept that the elites love them some pre-pubescent ass. The fact that they've grossly overreacted to that particular claim is very telling.
===
It was Epstein's non-suicide that convinced me that Q & Infowars were 100% correct. He was a threat to a lot of people's not-so-secret shame and the scum who made $$ over providing the shame, and they snuffed him in broad daylight AND no one saw a goddamn thing. The crazy stuff isn't crazy if it's true. We are being ruled over by a high-class club whose degenerate morals come straight from I, Claudius. And the funny thing was, it wasn't so secret. The FBI had stalked Epstein and his procuress for over a decade. An ABC reporter had a story yanked. It was hidden in plain sight until Trump said "Get that perverted SOB."

386 I saw a movie yesterday, The Angel Wore Red, about a priest caught up in the Spanish Civil War trying to escape assassination. It begins by telling us that the reason the Church is being attacked is the Church didn't change with the times and is generally uncool and not with it. Then Franco's forces bomb civilians. Although they reluctantly admit that it is the commies who are trying to hunt down and kill the priest, they continually insist that it's all Franco's fault. In fairness, this is not a political movie. It's a romance about the fleeing priest, Dirk Bogarde, falling in love with a whore, Ava Gardner, and leaving the church.

Many of the smart moneyed folks have their fingers in a lot of pies to diversify risk plus it gives a way to pay for disreputable or illegal activities. Play around with bitcoin or other stuff if you wish--but it is no different than dabbling in financial derivatives--it is a second order proxy for real wealth. The major purpose is to speculate.

You will find a lot of the same people invested in govt bonds that don't make much but are considered relatively safe. Diversified portfolios are a way to maintain wealth as long as systematic failure does not happen (for example, civilization ends).

There is a reported "Million Militia March" on the 19th. Which will have a hundred guys show up with about 75% being law enforcement of one stripe or another, eyeing each other suspiciously and trying to gin up conspiracies to commit violence without realizing that they are talking to another LEO.

I saw this mentioned over the weekend at TheDonald win, and they linked the posters being circulated about it, and actually did a little dissection of the iconography employed in the making of the posters.

Opinion is that the march and the posters are the work of antifa, and it's a trap. The posters themselves are very "antifa/socialist/communist" looking, down to the red & yellow color scheme and the entire vibe of the things.

Yell at me all you want, but I would not put it past our communist enemies to set up some patriots for slaughter.

I have a buddy who retired in his late 30's off bitcoin. Back in late 17/18 when the huge spike happened, he sold all of it (or a huge chunk, I don't remember) and walked away with around 7 mil after taxes.
