The Saturday Night Joke

When I was a young kid, I used to go to David’s barber shop on Brighton 9th. David used to whisper to his customer, "This is the dumbest kid in the world. Watch while I prove it to you."

So David put a dollar bill in one hand and two quarters in the other, then called me over and asked, "Which do you want, son?"

I would always take the quarters and leave.

"What did I tell you?" said David. "That kid never learns!"

Later, when the customer left, he saw me coming out of the ice cream store. "Hey, son! May I ask you a question? Why did you take the quarters instead of the dollar bill?"

I licked my cone and replied, "Because the day I take the dollar, the game's over!"

Good fences make good neighbors. The same cannot be said for lighting.

‘Lit up like Wrigley Field:’ Man who aimed 8 flood lights at neighbor’s home can’t beat conviction, $200 fine

A central Pennsylvania man was so annoyed with what he regarded as light pollution from his next-door neighbor’s house that he decided to fully illuminate his displeasure.

So, Joseph McConnell got eight construction-grade floodlights – the kind you see at highway work sites – aimed them at his neighbor’s home and turned them on.

As a police officer who answered the resulting complaint described it, those floodlights caused McConnell’s entire Manheim Township neighborhood to be “lit up like Wrigley Field,” the stadium where the Chicago Cubs play.

Damn squirrels. Woman had her ass kicked by squirrel.

A woman was left covered in blood after being mauled by an aggressive squirrel she likened to an MMA cage fighter. Michelle Frederick, from Queens in New York, still has bruises after the furry rodent launched on her outside the front door of her home last week. Frederick said: ‘We’re wrestling in the snow and there’s blood everywhere and my fingers getting chewed and it won’t let go. Eventually, it just stopped and there I was a big bloody mess.’ She added: ‘You hear someone has been bitten by a squirrel, you’re like “Okay, you got a little nib, what’s the deal?” But this was – this was an MMA cage match! And I lost!’ A security camera captured the gory attack, and showed the squirrel latched on to Frederick’s hand.

An interesting man and quite the story. Meet one Dynamite Pete.

LOUISVILLE, Neb. — There was a time when dang near everybody in Louisville knew about Dynamite Pete.

If you didn’t spot the shoeless hermit walking into town for supplies, perhaps you heard his 200-year-old Jacob Stainer violin squeaking out “Turkey in the Straw” from the woods. Or maybe you saw him walking on his hands with a bottle of whiskey in his mouth to win a bet.

Legend has it that ol’ Pete, antagonized by a group of railroaders, once lit a stick of dynamite in a South Bend bar and asked, “Which of you kids are man enough to stay and have a drink with me?”

The patrons scattered, and barefoot Pete spat on his dirty fingers, pinched the wick and collected the orphaned beers for himself.

That story dates back more than 70 years. The man — whose real name was Levi Everett — died in 1949.

Chicken Nugget consumption champion.

Nela Zisser, the former Miss Earth New Zealand and a medical student, still found time to be an eating champ.

Guinness World Records on Wednesday posted video of her setting the mark for most chicken nuggets consumed in a minute. (Watch the clip below.)

The clip showed Zisser devouring the fast food favorite in real time during an attempt in Auckland, New Zealand. She slowed at the end as if she’d bitten off more than she could chew but still gulped down a record 298 grams (10.5 ounces). The record is measured by weight but for those counting, she had 16 nuggets.

Zisser, 28, said previously she had to eat at least 200 grams for the record, her first Guinness achievement, which she accomplished last month.

Everything you wanted to know about dietary guidelines but were afraid to ask. No mention of valu-rite consumption.

The newest dietary guidelines from the U.S. federal government are out, and there are some surprising omissions. While the guidelines continue to emphasize the value of a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables, they don’t recommend that American men substantially cut down on alcohol—contrary to the advice provided by outside experts commissioned by the government earlier this year.

The U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans are updated every five years and are meant to reflect the current scientific consensus on nutrition. Though they’re obviously only recommendations, they do shape federal policies and programs focused on nutrition, such as school meal programs, as well as influence the food and restaurant industry at large.

Isn't public land just that, public? Arizona considering the halt of trail cameras.

A new regulation is up for comment in Arizona. It looks to ban the use of trail cameras for the ‘take of wildlife.’ Hunters, take note.

It’s not uncommon to stumble across a trail camera on public lands in the West. But if Arizona’s game commission gets its way, people will likely see far less of them in places frequented by Arizona hunters, like the Tonto National Forest.

The proposed regulation takes aim at a surging number of trail cameras in sensitive game habitat. And some of the regulation is particularly aimed at stopping the potential sale of photographs and data from strategically placed cameras, which could lead to an even greater issue with the technology.

This is pretty cool: Amateur Batman Builds His Own Wrist Mounted Grappling Gun

A childhood spent obsessing over Batman’s wonderful toys eventually transitions to a disappointing adulthood where you realize those gadgets just can’t exist in real life, even with a billion-dollar budget. That hasn’t stopped many from trying, and JT from YouTube’s Built IRL has come closer than most at recreating Batman’s grappling gun.

The project actually started over a year ago while JT was interning on another popular YouTube channel known for its impressive builds of fictional superhero gadgets: Hacksmith Industries. Building a working grappling gun isn’t easy, and it’s made all the harder when it’s supposed to perform the same way Batman’s does with enough torque and power to physically lift a fully grown person off the ground as the cable attached to the hook is slowly retracted. It’s such a demanding creation that JT has actually dedicated five entire videos over the past year to the build and all the unique challenges and problems that had to be overcome with clever engineering.

If his first name isn't a Genius then his legal counsel certainly earned him a Genius Award Winner.

Standard lawyer jokes aside, attorneys must adhere to strict ethics guidelines or risk losing their licenses to practice law. One West Virginia lawyer learned the eh, hard way, that bartering is not allowed under the rules of professional conduct.

McGinnis E. Hatfield was stripped of his license to practice law, courtesy of the West Virginia Supreme Court.

Here’s the backstory. Hatfield and a friend visited the Cherry Bomb Gentleman’s Club back in 2013. While inside, Hatfield paid a woman (known in court documents as B.W.) for a lap dance. Hatfield had apparently made quite the impression on B.W., as she later attempted to retain his services to represent her in a divorce. When she couldn’t pay his $1,500 retainer fee, he asked for sexual favors instead.

Instead of engaging in the seedy barter transaction, B.W. filed a disciplinary complaint against Hatfield. As part of her case, she provided the West Virginia Disciplinary Board with transcripts and recordings of six conversations between herself and Hatfield. The eventual result was that the Board brought disciplinary proceedings against Hatfield.

A U.S. judge on Friday rejected Gohmert's lawsuit against Vice President Mike Pence, who is set to preside Wednesday over a joint session of Congress to formalize the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Following the ruling, Gohmert, a Texas Republican, told Newsmax: 'But if bottom line is, the court is saying, 'We're not going to touch this. You have no remedy' - basically, in effect, the ruling would be that you gotta go to the streets and be as violent as Antifa and BLM.'

21 I promised to share how Mr. Bassman and I got prequalified for a mortgage despite our low income and credit scores. The sticking point was that we want to buy the next house before we sell our current house and we don't have guaranteed, salaried jobs in our new location.

Our mortgage guy first thought he would have to try the application as an investment property, which requires a 25% down payment and a higher interest rate. Then he got the idea to try it as a vacation home. This worked and had the added benefit of only needing 10% down and a better interest rate.

We are experiencing a seller's market in our current location and we estimate that we will sell for about 25% more than we will pay for the new, more suitable, home. We think we will sell a few months after we buy and can pay down the new mortgage and perhaps even refi at a better rate as a conventional loan.

So, hope this helps if there is anyone in a similar situation.

$600 for a complete AR15 (you'll need mags and at least a rear sight) Not too terrible these days.

76 Around 8-10 years ago, we got the impression that God was giving us a heads up to prepare to move, but not right away. We helped care for our parents and now they have all passed away.

While we were visiting family for Thanksgiving in a free state, I pulled up a real estate app out of curiosity to see what was available in the area. A certain house caught my eye immediately and we found an agent to show it to us. We expected it to sell immediately because houses generally only last a couple of days in that market. But I told God that the house really appealed to me and asked if it would be a good choice for us, and if so, could He hold it for us?

So, hope this helps if there is anyone in a similar situation.

Anybody know what the "score" is D vs R as far as catching covid? I'm surprised these asshole Dems, the squad, Schumer, Pelosi, Schiff, Nadler, Obama, Biden haven't caught this shit. Have I missed it and does it seem like it's mainly hitting Repubs. I dont think it's anything, but it sure does seem like our side is un-healthy or has shitty immune systems. Any thoughts?

Even if it's generally believed on the Left that this is a done deal and there will be no recourse (which may or may not be what they believe) -- they have been saying repeatedly and publicly that they're not finished with us after January 20. A full program of retaliation and neutralization is considered essential.

The trolls, whether acting on their own out of boredom and feelings of inadequacy, or as part of some plan, reflect this.

How do you crush 80 million people' many of them armed? Gradually, in stages, and with some thought put into it.

And with deception. The trains are relocating us for our safety. The building with the empty water tower is a shower.

They are not finished. Even the dumbest among them have absorbed this and act on it in their own dumb way.

274 Long before the troops had formed up in Union blue and Confederate gray, long before formal hostilities had commenced, the American Civil War was already well under way.

Congress was voting on bringing new territories into the Union. Kansas/Nebraska was all one territory, as was California. Republicans wanted them brought in as FREE states. Democrats wanted them brought in as SLAVE states, in violation of the Missouri Compromise.

So, Dems sent pro-slavery folks to settle Kansas/Nebraska. Republicans sent abolitionists to settle that same territory. We set up separate towns and territorial governments. We started bumping into each other. We refused to recognize each other's legitimacy. And soon, we were shooting each other.

294 When you hear a college football announcer talking about Kansas and Missouri playing, and they call it the "long-standing rivalry," and the "border war," they aren't really referencing a college rivalry. The "border war" actually was a border WAR.

Pro-slavery Democrats used to form up at night in Missouri, ride into the Kansas/Nebraska territory, find anti-slavery Republican farms, drag those farmers and their families out of their homes in the middle of the night, murder them, burn their homes, burn their crops, and ride back into Missouri.

Then, a couple of nights later, a group of anti-slavery Republicans would form up. They would ride into Missouri, find pro-slavery farms, drag those people from their homes, kill them, and burn their homes and crops.

304 No state employee can make say 1 million a year. That would end these stupid college coaching contracts.
Posted by: lowandslow
Coaches salaries are usually comprised of several variables. Let's take nick saban as an example at Alabama:1) nick sabans salary from the state of Alabama is probably 75k a year. He gets health benefits and pension like every other teacher there. This is what you would be able to limit
2) Nike deal with Alabama. This is probably worth like 2 mil a year. Alabama agrees to pass this through to him as part of his contract negotiations. Money comes from Nike not the state of Alabama.
3) booster money to further bridge gap. Once again, these are private donations to the program and unregulated.
4) use of Bama facilities for camps. Probably another couple hundred k.
5) private deals - books, TV ads, etc.

The only part of a college coaches salary you can limit is the smallest part. The rest come from the boosters or private enterprises.

358 313. Agree with blaster. College coaches compensation packages are negotiated and approved through university financial review, taking in state law regarding state employees including anything applicable through collective bargaining regarding non union salaries. Many university athletic departments are separate entities from the universities and most are 501c designations. Federal law governing nonprofit come into play in addition to state law. Market forces drive coaches compensation.

What I heard on Rush's show the other day made sense. The host ran through the litany of "why vote, nothing has changed in the fraud department." Sure, you could choose to stay home on that basis and it would be almost certain the seats would flip to Demon-crats. But what stuck with me was his final statement that if you don't get out there and vote, you have a zero chance of changing anything, so it is worth taking a shot.

Actually, I understand your position perfectly. The GOP Establishment has played the least-worst option game for decades and we have been screwed over for decades.
But Bribem and Commiela are bat shit insane and anything that can be done to slow them down even a tiny bit needs to be done. And true enough, this vote may change nothing.
The difference is that this time the fraud, deception, corruption, and deceit inherent in almost all of our elected officials is almost impossible to ignore.
There are NOW thousands, if not tens or hundreds of thousands, of GOP (and a few Dem) voters that have had their noses rubbed in the filth of out political system and they will not be docile lambs in 2022.
So, my hope is that people will vote because their vote "might" be counted correctly and in the knowledge that if they do not vote, then one less fraudulent vote is required for us to lose badly.

Well, if you're looking for the original pro sports business model, go no farther than the Oorang Indians of Larue, Ohio, one of the first NFL franchises, in 1919.
Walter Lingo raised Airedales. He operated a (really damn good) pro football team to publicize his dog breeding operation. Jim Thorpe coached the team and managed the kennels. The NFL license cost $100. Each of his dogs was worth $150. Man would I love to have seen Michael Vick signed into that contract.

Some of the cool features, like those door handles that sit flush with the body, and the falcon wing doors, both of which do not work when the car battery is not working, prevented rescue of the owner. The biggest cool feature, the battery, becomes a lethal hot mess under these wrong conditions.

Running (or standing) with a crowd of Morons you do know is much to be preferred!

It really depends heavily on why you are the target. If you have been designated their cat-toy, then there was a lot of bad decisions that led up to that point.

With very little practice but with an unusual amount of intestinal fortitude, knee strikes to the groin and ankle stomps are probably the best bang for the least amount of training - especially in crowds.

Most idiots throwing fists won't know how to deal with someone getting deep inside their strike zone - it reduces their effectiveness while it gives you room to get inside their OODA cycle to deliver a message.

My wife and I both got Covid 19 in late October.
She beat it with Bio-Quercetin (which acts like HCQ) and Zinc Sulfate. You can get Bio-Quercetin from Amazon, or from the manufacturer (Life Extension). Take it twice a day with 50 mg of Zinc Sulfate.
Take plenty of Vitamin D3 (2000-4000 IU per day).
Take Vitamin C.
I would suggest taking aspirin too, as clotting can sometimes take place with Covid 19, and aspirin is a good anti-clotting agent/blood thinner.

Quercetin acts as an ionophore, and helps get zinc into the cells which kills the virus. Like HCQ. It worked for her. We ran out of Bio-quercetin, and Amazon didn't get us more, and I got a lot sicker.

Not paranoid, but a little prevention can't hurt. I'm prolly in a medium risk situation w/ age and medical conditions. Also take a little zinc and vitamin D.

502 About cleaning out that garage; My wife and I have a full size truck and a minivan in our garage. We learned quite a while ago that leaving vehicles parked in the driveway or on the street, in our neighborhood, was asking for bad things to happen. So, our garage is cleared so we can use it for it's intended use and not storage.

Meanwhile, people in our neighborhood are constantly complaining about their vehicles, the ones they have parked in the driveway or on the street, because they can't get them in the garage, being broken into or vandalized.

Amazing, really.

The Quercitin + Zinc and/or the Cell Armor from Sharkman work pretty good if you are not too sick with Covid 19.

If you get REALLY sick, you need to go to the hospital. I got Pneumonia along with Covid 19, and was really sick.

You might want to get a blood oximeter from Amazon, it's about $15-20. Hope you don't get too sick and something you use turns the corner for this. Most people (+99% ) will be able to shake it off.

542 I agree with y'all about the tools thingy.

And hey, I finally found the answer to a question I had been wondering about -- the cost of charging your EV. At a for-pay public charging station, it can cost more to 'fill up' than a tank of gas. Good article by RealClearEnergy :

Fast chargers will bring the battery only to an 80% total charge due to the limitations of lithium batteries. Charging above 80% will damage the battery. Since I arrived at the charging station with ten percent capacity remaining, I received an additional 70% charge, which gave me about 190 miles total range. It required one hour and ten minutes. The cost was $21.07, or 43 cents per kW. The cost would be about 34 cents per kW if I joined Electrify America for four dollars per month. Filling my gasoline vehicle for the same range would cost less - about $13. Charging an EV at a fast charger costs more per mile of range than filling up a gasoline-powered vehicle.

It was abrupt and out of character and Harris seemed flustered while smoothing it over. J claims MF was ordered to do that at the moment, one of the higher ups is a Soros friend.

End result you have not seen Melissa Francis on Fox since. Did she quit over his and walk away? Always liked her, she was pretty right leaning and grounded.

I lived in the Pacific Northwest from 1975 until just this last April, when I moved to LA for work. Most of my time was spent in and around Seattle. I absolutely love it there for the trees, water, mountains, wind, animals, birds, views, teams, fishing, etc., etc., etc., ad nauseum unto the end of time.

Sadly, Satan/The Democrats (BIRM) own the state of Washington and it will never change. When even my rock-head ex-wife is smart enough to decide to just pick up and move to NE Florida with our youngest two Kids, you know that a place is no longer where you should be.

596 Deer have a circulatory system that acts like a heat exchanger between veins/arteries (forget what system is called) so they have higher resistance to cold temps. Wouldn't say they're immune to frostbite, just better adapted.

Also, if having more horses per square mile than people and more pasture than developed land, isn't at least semi-rural, I don't know what is...

bill in arkansas, I know the feeling. Still dealing with muscle spasms in back causing shooting pains up through right shoulder and in right elbow/forearm.
Not as bad as first 8 to ten days, thank you Lord for that, still not fun.

629 Bill in Arkansas, TeeJ, dealing with chronic pain also. Did something to my shoulder (I think) that is causing all kinds of nerve stuff down my arm. It's slowly been getting worse the past few months.

Shovelling yesterday morning and making bread in the afternoon has me all messed up right now.

630 628 TeeJ, muscle spasms can really be weird. All it takes to set things off is a wrong movement. I've only had one bout of lower back trouble in my life and it started with a dropped toothbrush and ended in the ER.

631 1940s Radio announcer guys. Another one was Reed Hadley, he was the voice of Red Ryder in the old Western radio series. He went on to narrate quite a few then-classified War Department films produced at Lookout Mountain studios outlining the various nuclear bomb tests like Upshot Ivy and such. (It's interesting that even at the pinnacle of science, physics, and engineering, it still boils down to a bunch of whackos blowing stuff up out in the desert.)

I recall reaching in my briefcase for a letter, grabbing it, and tumbling to the floor as my back gave out. That was about twenty years ago. My back is much better, but no where what it was before that day, the day everything went sideways, and I just fell to the floor and tried to figure out what went wrong.

638 Sloans! My dad used that. Looking at package in link - it has oil of turpentine! Also capsicum...
I wonder if that's like capsaicin... dad had some salve with that in it that he used on his arthritic hands. Said it helped. Caused a painful burning sensation for me

649 I picked up a bit of stenosis after carrying a heavy toolbox on my shoulder on the flightline, near as I can tell.

Alternating numbness, or burning sensation, or intense itching of thigh muscle, with lower back pain. Annoying as hell. Chiropractic seemed to help quite a bit, at least for a while.

What really helped though was losing excess poundage. Carrying around the equivalent of a heavy toolbox on your gut plays hell on knees, back, and ankles. I shed about 50 pounds of fat or so. Since then has been very manageable, knock on wood.

Go pick up something weighing 50 pounds and see what you think. Carry it up and down the stairs a time or two. It's amazing the abuse we put on our bodies. They are resilient but it will take a toll.

Messed up lower back a fair bit lifting a section chest up onto the back of a deuce-and-a-half when 20.

653 I should get back to my chiropractor. I already know that I have degenerating discs. But my lower back is usually the issue. Messed up my shoulder about 10 years ago. Thought it was just a strain and aggravated from repetitive use. (Delivered newspapers, one route - a driving route - delivering to paper tubes.) Shoulder didn't bother me as much after I quit. A few months ago I was stocking the coolers at work, lifting cases of soda onto a top shelf, almost dropped the case - the pain was white hot. Been bugging me since.

656 Still pretty thankful our host Ace put a bug in my ear about this fasting business. Would have never shed all that fat without looking into fasting. I will say losing the last 10 pounds sure is tougher than the first 10 pounds.

I want to actually get a little bit below the published poundage for my height and weight, the "official" stats list 185 pounds. I figure hitting about about 179 would allow a little room to toggle up, for the occasional pizza or beer bender.

676 A reminder from poster Troy Riser"

So here's the thing: there is a just and loving God and He loves us dearly. He wants us to be joyous, happy and free. I'm not saying that all will turn out well where our country is concerned. I'm saying there is a point and purpose to our lives and it's on us to change what we can even if that means we can only change how we look at things. Stay positive, horde. Buch up, cheer up and man up. We stay true we can beat these people. I mean, look at them. They're not so tough.

Posted January 1st- 4:17 p.m.

Thanks, Troy. A good reminder

Thanks for sharing.
KOTR reminds me of a time in my life as a kid around 10 or so, and certain specific relatives, my Aunt June and Uncle Bob (Mom and June were very tight sisters in a family with 5 boys, all Marines in WWII or Korea) and Uncle Bob would always play that song, or turn it up when we were in the car.
Weird how tunes do that to the mind sometimes.
