People at dictionary.com have too much time on their hands. Or they hired Trigglypuff as an easily bored editor.
Bingeing means "doing a lot at one time". It's actually older than the 20th century. It is NOT specific to an eating disorder, Miss Body Shape Issues. I guess "spirit animal" is uncool now that all the hippies who used to toss it around are grandparents now. So uncool! Using "ninja" is cultural appropriation?!? Heh, a few million anime fans would like to tell you LOLGF for that. Not to mention all the Japanese who think it's cool we think their stuff is cool. And, oh pseudo-smart one, "ninja" is the Chinese way of reading the characters for the Japanese "shinobi" which is the actual name for the profession. It's just that back in the day it was considered more cultured to use the Chinese word in polite conversation, just like those overly cultured douchebags who insist on using French every other sentence. We throw around terms like binge-watch and cleaning binge all the time when, in fact, the word binge originates from serious eating disorders, including Binge Eating Disorder and bulimia, and should be reserved for discussions about them. Sorry, Dictionary.com, but I have labeled a vast number of men "hysterical" over the years. Don Lemon is a hysterical little git. Tom Friedman is a hysterical little git. Maxine Waters is a hysterical little git. Alex Baldwin is a hysterical little git. It doesn't matter.

English, in spite of people's not wanting to use its massive vocabulary (by, for instance, calling every last business, profession or firm a "provider"), is the world's biggest language. Why? Because English constantly takes words from other languages and uses them as its own.
It reflects the experience of the English people as they went all over the world over the past thousand years, constantly encountering things that was foreign to the experience on the Isles...not to mention the English affinity for wanting to come up with a unique term for absolutely everything. If dictionary.com wants to take its logic to the final rational end, the English language - er, English grammar and vocabulary provider - the English language will eventually be reduced to nothing. (A huge portion of English stems from Latin. Is dictionary.com going to scold and lecture us for culturally appropriating the Romans? Hell, we use their alphabet. Will they demand we go back to runes?) What a bunch of idiots. Posted by: Catch Thirty-Thr33 at December 29, 2020 01:15 PM (RnjQi) 230

I've never heard it used that way, but now that they bring it up, I'll try to fit it into a conversation. Language needs some flair ... it is called a "figure of speech", it does not "appropriate" anything, it does not "diminish" the thing, it is just a "point of comparison". How about this, if we're being consistent and honest? Modern industry was invented in four places: the United States, England, Scotland and Germany. Motive power, electric power, factory production - the basis of modern industry - were all from those four places. Anyone who is not from one of those countries or possibly by extension their overall regions that uses industrial methods or economies is culturally appropriating. The Orient, Eastern Europe, South America and Africa all need to shut down their factories and return to subsistence farming with small-volume trading. Oh, that's absurd? Yes, of course it. The reason there aren't any Ninjas in Japan, is that the Japanese planned to use them to assassinate allied leaders in Japan if they lost WWII, so they split them into two groups and sent them to two cities in Japan that the allies had not bombed, for training, and to protect them. Unfortunately for the Japanese, the two cities they selected for the Ninja were Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

338 241 Ron Howard was not brought in to save Solo. He was brought in to remake Solo, because Kathleen Kennedy *spit* paid out $$$ for an action comedy from an action comedy creator team, that she decided that she didn't like. So she fired them and hired Howard to spend $$$$ to make a spaghetti western film in spaaace! The movie we saw in the theaters was 20-25% action comedy and 75-80% spaghetti western. So, do the dictionary-Nazis condemn "testimony"? After all, it comes from the Roman tradition of swearing an oath by placing your hand on your testicles (instead of on your heart, as we do). Of course, women, not having nads (real women, I mean, not the ersatz variety) couldn't swear an oath under Roman law, so "testimony" is patriarchally tainted and therefore must be banned.
For that matter, "Nazi" must be banned, too, since a "dictionary nazi" is not literally a member of the National Socialist German Workers Party. Posted by: Nemo (formerly "Brown Line", except that I came to my senses and moved out of Chicago) at December 29, 2020 01:50 PM (S6ArX) 550

In the America that clearly is gone, it might have been an issue, at some point, that the "president" is mentally incompetent and unable to even interact normally for an extended period, much less make "decisions" etc.
Now? No problem. The vestigial portion of the electorate that has any interest or sense will of course continue to not believe almost anything they're seeing and living, because it's so vile and ridiculous, but ..... There's nothing resembling a press in the historical sense. There's little resembling an American population in the historical sense. Pop culture, besides being incredibly cretinized, is little more than an extension of the dumbed down ignorant racist authoritarian onslaught. Chernenko doesn't need to appear in public. None of the jokes or outrage of those at places like this or the mostly very mediocre "conservative" punditry will matter a bit. Posted by: rhomboid at December 29, 2020 01:55 PM (OTzUX) 592

The thing about the progs is that what is problematic today may be dogma tomorrow; the only thing they actually believe in is that their superiority entitles them to rule. It's not even a moral superiority they believe in, because to them, everything that is morally right is right because THEY believe it, and for no other reason.
Throw in their denial of objective truth, and they are free to change what is right like normal people change socks. This is a thing worth fighting; they're not mentally ill, they're just evil and really good at making excuses and justifications. The word "dictionary" was invented by an Englishman called John of Garland in 1220. So unless these clowns can prove they are English, gtfo.

Disclosure: Dictionary dot dickhead, err, com used to be my go to for online definitions until they did a woke thing a few years ago. I will admit to having used in on occasion since then, but never again. I hope their site gets looks and everyone associated with it goes bankrupt and starves to death.

Just imagine how terrible it must have been to live in the dark ages of, say 2005, without Dictionary.Com to tell you what to think. It must have been horrid!

89 Saying gimp, retard and fag get me the hairy eyeball at work. Any pointers on what I should be using?
Posted by: Tree of Liberty Landscaping How about shitbanger for gay? Retard is just fine! I still use that. But it offends me that the shitbangers stole a perfectly good word. Yes. We get offended too. We used to just ignore it but it s time to take the language back. I don t use gimp except when I am talking about Biden and Obola, so someone else has to help there. For years now I've deliberately used the word hysterical just to annoy the scolds, particularly those with two X chromosomes.
In addition to being just fine with terms appropriated from European cultures, the editors at Dictionary.com have no problem with shekel, schmooze, rabbi, or shibboleth, all terms appropriated from Jewish culture. As a matter of fact, the use of the term "shekel" for money is indeed, ahem, problematic because of the historic Jew-hating tropes about Jews being overly concerned with money. Of course the editors at Dictionary.com likely think that Jews are overly concerned with money. Posted by: Johann Amadeus Metesky at December 29, 2020 06:11 PM (VHk4v) 676
