Saturday Morning Coffee Break

The Saturday Morning Joke

Learning to Cuss

A 6 year old and a 4 year old are playing in the yard.
The 6 year old asks, "You know what? I think it's about time we started learning to cuss". The 4 year old nods his head in approval.
The 6 year old continues, "When we go in for breakfast, I'm gonna say something with hell and you say something with ass".
The 4 year old agrees with enthusiasm
When the mother walks into the kitchen and asks the 6 year old what he wants for breakfast, he replies,
"Aw, hell, Mom, I guess I'll have some Cheerios".
WHACK!
He flies out of his chair, tumbles across the kitchen floor, gets up, and runs upstairs crying his eyes out, with his mother in hot pursuit, slapping his rear with every step. His mom locks him in his room and shouts, "You can stay there until I let you out!"
She then comes back downstairs, looks at the 4 year old and asks with a stern voice, "And what do YOU want for breakfast, young man?"

"I don't know", he blubbers, "but you can bet your ass it won't be Cheerios."

Fourteen years later they had both enlisted in the Marine Corps.

Saturday morning. Enjoy the fresh commentary of opinions. Please one another by bloviating away the morning. Hey, it's an open thread. Just remember, no white elephant presents, no pulling 'ettes hair and no pissing in the pool. Be nice to one another. And have a great weekend!

23 So I'm going to have to use multiple posts to post part of this reflection for Christmas by this pastor from the local churches:

"Within the Bible I found that joy is often paired with a contrasting feeling. Take for example the story of Jesus' birth. The angels were sharing what they called 'good news of great joy, but the shepherds didn't feel joyful. They felt terrified'

Within the Bible I found that joy was paired with fear, sorrow, trouble or difficulty. God's people could experience joy, for God had acted on their behalf, God was with them... (to be continued)

35 Part two-connected to post 23-

"But they were still living in a broken and difficult world

-and so their joy was almost always infected by a contrasted feeling.

Personally I found this comforting. We are not alone in having our joys mixed with sadness.

Another lesson I learned about joy was this: When the Bible speaks about God's joy it does so without condition.

God's joy is rooted in God's connection to us, God is joyful when God is able to find us, and bring us back into God's loving care. God is like a shepherd rejoicing after rescuing a lost sheep.

Nashville has a license plate camera scanning system that tracks all vehicles. They most certainly know everything about that RV's path.
A car driving from Baton Rouge to Gulfport, for example, is scanned and logged no less than 80 times. Eighty. One tiny municipality I work with has dozens. It is impossible to go between two points without having the entire trip recorded by the police. It's troubling.

42 Wow. Got in here early today so near the top.

I see some yard work in my future. Willow tree in the yard drops sticks and limbs just by looking at it, it seems. We had a couple days of 30 to 40 mph winds, so there is an abundance.

At least it will be warmer today to at least start on it.

I hate that tree for that reason alone.

76 Have been reading a lot of Hayek lately, primarily The Fatal Conceit. He makes the point that people learn from imitation and societies advance through experimentation, not from pure reason or the contribution of intellectuals. He further states that intellectuals tend toward socialism because it is a society based not on anything real, only the musings of the intellect. Watching a documentary on Seattle losing its soul to the rabble on the street and it included an interview with the female mayor. I am here in Manchester TN and the AT&T network is still down.

It is bizarre to me that there was a single point of failure for a huge part of their network. Perhaps AT&T will learn something over this.

But for now an internet detox

If they wanted to warn people away from DC, they'd have bombed DC. This was a direct attack on AT&T. Huawei's revenge? Lefty who love Huawei, just a random lib. Don't know, but if you want to scare DC you don't hit Nashville.

The S Mc G stuff on RedState was interesting, seems the first person to release a video of the warning and explosion was a new account holder and this was their first offering. A variant of S McG was also found on youtube and was talking apocalypse and showing Irish pols, it was also a newbie account.

For this goofy idea to have value, I would expect the Enemedia to amp up the narrative on how RVs are the next best thing to hijacking aircraft.

If the Enemedia pushes a campaign of distrusting your RV owning neighbor, then the AT&T location is just a McGuffin.

And I will lay out these hypotheticals - systems that stay up at first are damaged or shut down as fire suppression - water - comes in.

Also, I will give you this example I had personally in my data center once.

Power surge popped a breaker in a power supply, and everything in the rack switched over to the other circuit. Which was fine. Until the breaker in that power supply DIDN'T pop - and the plug melted.

Folks of a certain age will remember when bombings typically came with a warning precisely to prevent casualties. The notion was to demonstrate an ability to strike at will while also appearing humane.

That kind of thing went away with the rise of Islamic suicide bombing, but it was pretty common during the 70s and 80s, along with hijacking jets to Cuba.

I hope not. My grandma always bought those pieces of crap, leading to young Rodrigo learning to how to change tires at an early age (like 10 or 11).

357 I sent off a set of Pirelli P7's clear across the country for retreading, years ago. Yes, they can be retreaded, and well, too. The thing was? The belts of that carcass must be investigated extremely carefully. Yes, one of mine had a separation, so the other three are still set aside in the shop. The retread guy said a huge number of high-performance low profile radials are running around with broken steel in the belts, and they hold together to the end of the tread life just fine. When you start a second life cycle, little things like that tend to show up on the inside of the wheelwells.

He sent my other three home for free, so I didn't see where he had cause to lie.

423 That article about the AT&T customers is dumb. It destroyed fiber lines. Individual fiber lines are about the thickness of a hair. 460 KC Jones. Great ballplayer, great guy.
True story, I was sitting next to him at a bar in Boston having lunch at the bar. Said hello, how are you etc. He was being mentioned as possible Coach of the Celtics, but was also interviewing with other teams, on of which was the Warriors. He finished his bowl of chowder, and as he was heading out, played Tony Bennett's I left my Heart on the jukebox. I figured this meant he was going with the Warriors.
An hour later the news reported his hiring as Celtic Coach.
