Being Jewish, I know a lot of them. And it's my take that they believe that their progressivism will do exactly the opposite and make them "safe", as will Soros' open society where every European majority country will be watered down to the point that no one will harm them. I think they have that wrong, but that's how they explain it and tikkun olam, of course, which is at the heart of the current BLM/Antifa progressivism.

137 @112 CN"Progressive Jews and probably Christians seem to feel that their view of politics is, in fact, Godly."
You have to understand that there is a rational logical basis in scripture for their thinking. Some churches absolutely prioritize the tending to the needy. They also see the government as the absolute arm of God's authority. Both of these are at least loosely based in scripture. Tying that to the mercy of God, who lets it rain on the just and the unjust, they see it as a very real doctrine.
My point is not that they are doing biblically-defined, righteous good, because I think leftism is based in God-hating licentiousness, but that you have to address these very real concerns in people who are sincere if you hope to turn them.

The part I do not accept is that all poverty must be addressed here in the US with open borders and that "poor" automatically means crushed and downtrodden and must be solved by massive redistribution and critical race theory. Poor non-POCs are just lazy while POCs are cruelly used is untrue and unfair.

Exactly, and among the SJWs I know, charitable giving is not a big effort. They will do it when they are able to force everyone else to do it via confiscatory taxes. You may ask, CN, how do you know this? My husband is a retired business prof and we get many begs around tax time.

252 I have this crazy, trollish fever-dream for January 6th, where Mike Pence is about to certify the results, and someone pulls the fire alarm. Everyone evacuates, and when they come back, Pence says he counted a few late arriving, uncertifiable ballots he received. Following SCOTUS precedent, he had to accept them, and they were co-mingled with the other votes.

The electoral college vote is announced as 325-300 for Trump, which is more than the total number of registered electors, but blue cities regularly have more votes than registered voters, so it's not an issue. Pence then drops all documents into a shredder in front of everyone, and says he doesn't think he's violating a law by doing so, so no reasonable prosecutor would charge him.

295 I'm in the Balkans again, and current events back home remind me of two bits of Yugoslavian history.

1- Part of Yugoslavia's breakup was due to huge mobs of Serbs demonstrating outside the capital. It was theoretically a nation of many republics, but Serbia was making a power play to solidify control of the nation, and used mobs of angry Serbs to threaten the other Republics' representatives (the capital was in Serbia). It (mostly) worked. I wonder how the US legislature will react if millions of angry Trump supports are in Washington DC on the 6th, and what extremes the government will go to to prevent it?

2- Sarajevo was a modern, international city in 1984 (when the winter Olympics were held there). 8 years later, it's under a multi-year siege during a bloody national breakup. I walked through the streets a few days ago, and there are damaged chunks of sidewalk painted red throughout the city. These mark where shells landed and killed civilians. Bad times.

Wokeness is a curse on humanity.

I wouldn't want to support St. Jude if they were racist. I also don't want to support virtue-signalers.

My natural inclination is to assume someone is not a racist unless they prove otherwise. So Ifu they feel they need to convince me they're not, I start to doubt them.

On the other hand, since the Critical Race theorists insist that we are all racists, then that becomes a reason to reassure others that we aren't racists.

Again, wokeness is a curse that prevents us from having normal, healthy social interactions.

Bad idea. That's what the
Progressives said about the democrats, but they decided to take it over
instead and now it's theirs lock stock and barrel and they may get the Presidency, House and Senate out of it.
Trump has already taken over the GOP. GOPe 'leaders' and others just
don't realize it yet.
I'm willing to be convinced otherwise.

332 Sarajevo was a modern, international city in 1984 (when the winter Olympics were held there). 8 years later, it's under a multi-year siege during a bloody national breakup. I walked through the streets a few days ago, and there are damaged chunks of sidewalk painted red throughout the city. These mark where shells landed and killed civilians. Bad times.

336 Good morning everyone!

Quick check in - Christmas was very quiet, the rest of the fam had a good time in their sequestered location. I spent the day reading MP4's books, so a very pleasant day.

I have taken to sitting on the front porch, but with the cold I went and bought a propane heater. Neighborhood Karen stopped by yesterday under the guise of being interested in one, but then started her worrying about the carbon footprint of such a device. Looks like I'm going to have to rig up a gasoline powered heater now.

Be careful out there - I am afraid this is the calm before the storm.

~~~~~
Chocolate chips, brownies, fudge, Muddy Buddies, Lindt, Hershey's, M&Ms, you name it. No one here to clean it up but me.
Had a very awkward Christmas eve, but managed to have a dinner and open gifts scattered about in different rooms but within sight of each other. Oldest son got it (his wife the RN had it first.) Told the kids to stay home Christmas day and we would make up for it with a nice dinner in a couple of weeks. I could see that the one guy was miserable with the mask, etc. and didn't want to put them through that again.
Actually feeling pretty good--thanks for asking! Still have two more days of the steroids and I'm convinced that's what caused me to gain back the few pounds I lost to the Chinese Lung Rot. Why are you rolling your eyes?
Celebrity marriages aren't about schtupping. They're about business. They very well may never have even slept in the same room together, who the hell knows.
