People who suffer from a "tendency for interpersonal victimhood" present themselves as weak, hurt, and vengeful.

Many social commentators have argued that an emerging "victimhood culture" incentivizes people to see themselves as weak, traumatized, and aggrieved. In higher education, this has been associated with increased demands for specific accommodations like trigger warnings (which don't work) and the policing of microaggressions (which is ill-conceived).
But what if this is not merely a trend but an entire personality type? A new paper in the scientific journal Personality and Individual Differences posits a Tendency for Interpersonal Victimhood (TIV), an archetype defined by several truly toxic traits: a pathological need for recognition, a difficulty empathizing with others, feelings of moral superiority, and, importantly, a thirst for vengeance.
"The findings...suggest that victimhood is a stable and meaningful personality tendency," write the study's authors, a quartet of scholars associated with Tel Aviv University, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and the University of Pennsylvania.

The study distinguishes TIV from narcissism. Narcissistic individuals also experience moral superiority and vengeful desires, but these feelings tend to spring from the belief that their authority, capability, or grandiosity is being undermined. TIV, on the other hand, is associated with low self-esteem. And while narcissists do not want to be victimized, high-TIV individuals lash out when their victimhood is questioned.

To be honest, I think there's a huge amount of overlap.

And it must be pointed out that there are many, many people who suffer from a truly toxic and insane mixture of low self esteem with enormous, delusional levels of unwarranted high self esteem. (See Fredo Cuomo and Don Lemon and Brooke Baldwin and everyone at CNN, for example.)

And they react crazily whenever their very fragile and very unstable and unsupportable delusions of grandeur are chipped or cracked.

Someone with a large, but stable, ego will just walk away from someone who insults them, thinking (or saying) "you're beneath me, you mean nothing to me, and your opinion means less."

But someone with the toxic combination of low self-esteem and completely unwarranted high self-esteem will stalk, threaten, coerce, and blackmail a critic until they deliver the demanded validation and renounce any prior suggestion that the Low Self-Esteem/Delusionary High Self- Esteem Psychopath is not the Bestest Ever.

They don't care if they have to blackmail/coerce the validation -- they're validation vampires. They're Social Predators. As long as they get the validation, they don't care that it was gotten through threats.

They're mentally ill, unaccomplished SJW losers seeking vengeance on the world because they're not special or even average in any way.

But otherwise: Spot-on!

To a point, yeah. I suspect that it is a consequence of all the "you're special" "you're perfect just the way your are" and deliberate self-esteem promoting stuff that has occurred in the *absence* of actual achievement.

What you're left with is ersatz self-esteem. You feel good about yourself (or your are told to, and everyone tells you that you should and have earned) but you know deep down inside that you don't deserve to.

And that contradiction leads to a fugue state, so to avoid that they rebuild into projecting their inner confusion and contempt onto the world through massive overcorrection.

I'm sorry for your loss. Unfortunately, the 'Rona is essentially a death sentence if you put someone on a ventilator. I don't know why this is, but the data bears this out. Better to just put a mask on that is feeding pure oxygen, rather than the forced action of a ventilator and intubation.

It's the inflammation inside your lungs. The ventilator is forcing your lungs to do something they physically can't, thus causing physical damage to your lungs. It's why early anti-inflammatory treatment is the way to go.

At the organization where I work, people always want to come volunteer on Thanksgiving, but we can only take so many. We're here 365 days a year, but they usually aren't interested in coming another day. Also one time, when someone found out we'd only be serving dozens of people and not hundreds, they were no longer interested in helping. I guess they have a minimum threshold for feeling good.

I use the term generically, because it seems they've successfully muddied the waters so there's no discernible difference between them.

I knew a woman who was a paraplegic. She had a wonderful dog who helped make it possible for her to get around, carry things, assist with all sorts of tasks.

If you work in a medical setting these days though, you see 99 able-bodied nitwits with a "service" animal for every one person in a wheelchair, or is blind or otherwise using the animal as a tool that helps them live as normally as possible.

When my sister or I would go tattle to mom on the other, my mom would punish both of us - one for whatever it was that prompted the snitching, the other one for being a rat. "Don't be a rat, no one likes a rat"

*Sticks and stones was a mantra in our house. Being thin-skinned was not a virtue but something to be drummed out of us. And whatever fragility reminded after I left home, the Marine Corps sure as shit beat it out of me.

*Come home crying because some kid at school was mean to me and I'd get a sympathetic ear, but I sure as shit wasn't getting a parent to fix my problems for me. They would support and encourage me as long as I stood up for myself and handled my own business.

Hah! The funny thing is, my parents were hardly some hardass types compared to my friends. A few of the guys I grew up with had dads who ran the home like drill instructors - legit atmosphere of fear there. I think they were pretty much average by the standards of the '80s. Today? They would be considered draconian.

Sometimes I wonder if a lot of the fragility stems from smaller families. My mother was one of nine kids growing up in a blue collar home. You had to have thick skin in that environment. Her oldest sister often terrorized the rest of them. She had four brothers who were rough with each other the way brothers often are. Grandma had 4 kids in 4 years by the time she was 23 years old - she was a wonderful, funny lady, but she had NO patience for bullshit. You do what you're told or you pay the price. She had to work damned hard to keep the household running and Grandpa simply wasn't there to help a lot of the time because he was working two jobs day and night to support all those kids, days in the Grumman factory and nights at a liquor store. That's the way mom was raised and that's how she raised me.

Son got pneumonia, was given one day's rest, and then they told him to rub some dirt on it and get back to it.

He ended up getting so sick he couldn't hold food down, but he made it through the Crucible in 17 degree cold and graduated as a Pvt. 1st Class. He was unrecognizable at graduation.

In one of the many court opinions I've read on this shit recently, one of them (may have been the PA Supreme Court) rejected a complaint that poll watchers had been prevented from doing their job, saying something like "the statute only requires that poll watchers be allowed in the counting room, it does not specify the distance between the poll watchers and the vote counters, so therefore the statute was not violated when the poll watchers were forced to stand on the opposite side of the room from the counters, with multiple objects blocking their view of the vote counting."

This is the kind of bullshit we're up against. If this had been a lawsuit brought by Democrats against Republicans, the court would have said that the clear intent of the statute was to allow poll watchers to prevent possible fraud in the vote counting, and therefore the poll watchers had to be able to actually see the vote counting, or the statute was violated.

But because all these decisions are pure politics, and the cheated are on the wrong side of the result the courts want, we got screwed.

521 So, Lady YD left me with the kids yesterday, and no hot sauce, so I tried making my own out of butter, water, lime juice, garlic, cayenne, and paprika.

It came out pretty nasty. Really powdery, not much flavor. Just kinda gross.

I left it on the counter overnight, and planned to throw it away. But then I saw the pork rinds and thought "whatever, it's better than nothing," shook it up, and tried it out again.

This time, it tasted awesome.

I think I'm going to make a bunch of it and just let it sit in the fridge for a week.
