I do think about firearms issues as a mother. As a mother who taught my children the safe handling and use of firearms and developed them into accomplished and competitive marksmen with a variety of different firearms. I think about it as a Coach who other mothers and fathers bring their kids to my range to teach their children the safe handling and use of firearms and developed them into accomplished and competitive marksmen with a variety of different firearms.

I get really annoyed at some of the dumb that conflates libertarian with anarchist with crazy-pants fascist but I can see where it comes from sometimes. If someone calling for gun control is also calling themselves libertarian it's easy to see how people get confused.

Not speculation, not second/third hand knowledge, but what we actually know. In what I do for work, all I'm concerned about are the facts, something that I can actually put on paper, take to Command/Legal and say, here, this shit actually happened and here's what I have that shows that it actually happened. Post WWII the libertarians anchored the right, while the progressives anchored the left. Conservatives were the "center" and split between blue-collar conservatives, who generally sided with the left over public schools, the social safety net, etc., and white-collar conservatives, who sided with the right over free-trade and fewer regulations.
After the fall of the USSR, and the end of communism as an existential threat to the West, both sides abandoned conservatives. Both despised them, and the libertarians were more than willing to make common cause with the left over drugs, promiscuity, and open borders. The problem, of course, is that the right's arguments were built from a libertarian basis, not a conservative one. As a result, we've basically allowed ourselves to be painted into a logical corner. Putting it together in retrospect, I think the real reason that Libertarianism had a big surge was because the tech billionaires like Bezos and Gates were funding the movement - think tanks, etc - because they saw how easily it could be used to subvert and take over much of the supposed "conservative" establishment. And of course, their only real ideology is More Money and Power to the corporations they control.

She loved him and tried to help him but the hobby he was interested in, and that she took up - firearms - ended up killing her and the others. They were well off, the worthless father who abandoned them was supporting them financially, and that allowed her to keep the son's craziness hidden until it was too late. If Cupp-size wants to argue the ability to kill gun owners and steal their guns is something we can legislate away, I don't know what to say. It's pants on head retarded. Any moron can put together a slam-fire shotgun after a single, inexpensive trip to the hardware store. BUT those Open Borders were part of a society where there was NO welfare or government assistance and no minimum wage and everyone had free association for work and was responsible for themselves and for those they freely chose to support. Which might work as a concept if the rest of it were in any way possible. Back from my meeting with my future boss. Everything went well; he wanted to know what I handled here, who people were, etc. He was pleasant, but didn't smile much.
When he had a couple of questions I didn't know the answer to, as they were in areas I was not sure about, I told him, "I don't know, but I will find out." And I have, and have emailed him the answers. The only problem is that his research areas (which thankfully I will have little to do with) are in social justice, income inequality, racial inequality, and redistribution of wealth. Do that once a week at most, unless you're a professional writer. And the other two will be charged for felony murder. They committed a felony which resulted, indirectly, in the deaths of two people. It doesn't matter that those two people were their accomplices. That's the neat thing about the felony murder charge.
It is the neat thing about the felony murder doctrine. Which is, of course, why California got rid of it. IMO, the felony murder doctrine - and a generously applied death penalty - are key to restraining criminality. Two a-holes commit a crime in which someone dies, they're both liable for murder (first degree, I believe). Investigators can easily play them off against each other: whoever caves first, gets prison. The other, gets the needle. Pretty good incentive to spill your guts. One of the zillion bits of suggestive evidence that the vile vegetable's camp was in fact very panicky as Nov. 3 approached was the last-minute tweet about an assault weapons ban. Just the thing a confident team does when they're focused on ...... PA ..... and MI .... and hopeful about GA .... and AZ.
Right. It was stunning, and to me the most evident sign of panic. Because like the rest of the otherwise-invisible non-agenda of the non-campaign with no visible candidate, "gun control" polls waaaay down not just in those places, but everywhere outside a few clueless s***holes. It was part of the formula to amass a record number of votes while unseating an incumbent above 50% approval who increased his share everywhere. Or maybe not. Libertarianism is based on the same romantic view of human behavior as is Leftist ideals such as Rousseau and through Marx as the fruit of the Enlightenment. JS Mill, Locke, etc. all believed that humans were basically good and were/are warped by society. Both ignore history or distort it to fit their frame instead of simply recognizing that some will choose to do evil if given a choice and some of them will band together to cause evil things to happen on a massive scale--wars, pogroms, genocide, etc.
The underlying theme for both is Do as Thou Wilt. Libertarians naively believe that others will do as thou wilt for good when left to their own devices. Leftists believe that only the guardians of the proletariat are truly able to see the good and this allows a dictatorship of the elites until literally a "new" population is created which is a sort of debased Platonic ideal. Thus, we see the continuing hypocrisy where the elites ignore the Covid restrictions that they put on the plebes because only they are the knowing and good in society. They are free to do as they will but the non-virtuous cannot. The same justification has been used for flagrant violations of morals by priests of different religions, the nobility in others, and by various despots and tyrants throughout the ages. To pedants, both of these are examples of rhetoric, not dialectic. There is considerable variation in Socialist/Marxist thought as well as libertarianism. Both though focus on the individual being freed from the chains of current society and then vary as to the prescription of what to do next. Leftists are big on reeducation and elimination, libertarians not so much. SE Cupp is simply a fake plant and if you notice, many of the "conservative" thought leaders behave like leftists because they are leftists in their hearts and minds. So disqualify, deplatform, etc. are justified as what Saint Buckley did. That is the fault of the corporate and wealthy donors of the "conservative" sponsors of GoPe and "conservative" institutions which inevitably parrot whatever current idiocy is being promoted and shadow box in repeatedly saying they will 'ne'er consent' and soon afterwards consent. SE Cupp should read the article written by the Sandy Hook shooter's dad that came out a few years ago.
That kid was sick for year, and he was pushed off by all of the people and institutions that should have been helping him (schools, inpatient psychiatric care, etc.). His father left and his mother was so thoroughly worn down by the kid's crazy behavior. Years and years she tried to get him help, tried to get herself help/backup for dealing with her son-turned-monster. Sandy Hook wasn't about guns, it was about how we treat (or really, don't adequately treat) the sickest, most dangerous within our communities. The idiotic idea that hollow points are inhumane comes from a ridiculous international convention on warfare (the Hague) that tried to codify the insanity that is war.
In reality, hollowpoints are less likely to ricochet with harmful effects, as others have said upstream, more likely to stop within the person rather than harming those beyond through excessive penetration, and ironically more likely to stop an attack which might just save the perpetrator's life. In police shootings, when limited to fmj, it took multiple shots to put someone down and often bystanders were injured or killed, including cops, when bullets hit hard surfaces at shallow angles and ricocheted or overpenetrated the perpetrator to affect those beyond. The more wounds, the more likely someone is to bleed out and die but not necessarily in enough time that the person could give a mortal wound to the good guys. So mag dumps became common to stop the threat--see Diallou case for example in NYC. In the military's case, it has access to more potent weapons such as mortars, artillery, rockets, and so on for mass mayhem. For the most part, the military treat small arms as basically to preserve the life of the soldier and protect equipment rather than offensive in nature because they have bigger and better tools to do harm to the enemy now. So Hague restrictions are not a big deal (and btw may not apply when fighting unlawful combatants under the Geneva convention as those are treated as criminals rather than soldiers). "Libertarianism is based on the same romantic view of human behavior as is Leftist ideals such as Rousseau and through Marx as the fruit of the Enlightenment. JS Mill, Locke, etc. all believed that humans were basically good and were/are warped by society. Both ignore history or distort it to fit their frame instead of simply recognizing that some will choose to do evil if given a choice and some of them will band together to cause evil things to happen on a massive scale--wars, pogroms, genocide, etc."
This is very weird because I was always impressed by the complete opposite, that libertarianism works with human nature instead of insisting that it doesn't exist, that people are perfectible somehow or will behave in any way other than self-interest. That we ARE selfish. Now, sure, lots of people take that "selfish" part and run with it all sorts of odd places but really the whole point of something like Atlas Shrugged was that people behaving with self-interest made good choices, built things, and created wealth, while altruism was the ultimate lie. So it's the opposite of this. Human nature is what it is. The market, for example, works with human nature. The farmer doesn't feed people because he's a loving person. The farmer feeds people because he gets paid for it, because the food grown can be traded for nice things that make him and his family comfortable and the more food he produces the more he can enrich himself. The goal is to encourage people to look to long term self-interest instead of instant gratification but it's still all about what makes your own life better. She thought they should all be melted down and made into a statue of something. I then refreshed her memory on the subject of really creepy mass murderer Richard Speck, and his rapin' and killin' spree with eight soon to be nurses, and maybe, just maybe, if one of those girls had a gun and knew how to use it Speck would have been on the slab. Her response "that girl with a gun would probably shoot an innocent person". Yep, that's what you have to deal with.

And in fairness, there's not a law that could be written that would change the tally. If we're going to talk about laws based on gun deaths let's at least talk about the gun deaths that could be changed by laws. Of which there are really very few, and even of those you have to ask if the death would be prevented or simply the cause of death switched to something else. Political geeks everywhere anxiously await the traditional JFK School spring forum of the two campaign managers, where the musical question will be answered: how did Biden sag very badly in every Dem metro, not to mention key counties in swing states - except for 4-5 key counties - and yet manage to win. A pattern never seen before.
And consider that once the Dems bounce President Mandate of heaven, I guess. Posted by: Deplorable Jay Guevara - RIP American Republic, 1789-2020 at December 15, 2020 01:14 PM (YqDXo) 370
Everyone in DC have surrendered to the Chinese money machine. The Chinese own our government.
-- A sick, sad truth. What The People really needed spelled out for them in the Constitution is the technical way to go about dissolving the bonds that unite us to that bastardized government that now pollutes Washington. Yes, Article V. Yes, we have guns. But being realistic, there isn't a clear way forward other than civil war. How do we get out of this? "When in the course of human events..." is here. Right here and now. And we need to dissolve this corrupt government. But the job to do so is immense, and the path to get there unclear. There's a lot of shithead on shithead violence, but there's also a lot of shithead on innocent bystander violence, for two reasons: 1) the shitheads can barely hit the ground in three tries, and 2) if they're trying to get street cred with their fellow shitheads, it's a lot safer to walk up behind some poor unsuspecting slob and blow him away. Doing that to another shithead is dangerous, because they live that life, and are typically on the lookout.

330 Marcus, and Jay Guevara,
Yes. As rhetoric in Kant's time, it was a useful counterpoint to 'original sin' doctrine prevalent at the time. Many of the people pushing this view had a history of seeing religion being abused as justification for all sorts of controls on thought and speech. The risk to original sin that is that someone with no hope of redemption (a lot of variants of original sin had a elect and those that were damned through no fault of their own or allowed people to 'purchase' forgiveness for sins.) would lead to destructive lives. The common justification is that after the first murder, the rest are 'free'. If someone believes themselves to be damned regardless of their actions, then they will behave accordingly as a self fulfilling prophecy. As dialectic, the idea that people are basically good has made for all sorts of mischief-such as the dictatorship of the proletariat, wokeness, justification for anarchy, etc. I find it amusing that people are shocked when you make drugs legal but taxed, people still buy illegal weed (see Colorado and California) for example and the massive windfall of taxes collected never materializes. Or that overdoses through cannabis being in baked goods occur. A bit of history regarding drugs, alcohol, etc. would disabuse them of the notion quickly. There is a certain type of person that feels overwhelmed and denies self agency to cope. Thus, whatever happens to them is external and not their fault in any way. Their magic view of the world is that the firearm causes people to be bad rather than bad people use firearms as tools to hurt and kill people. In a similar way, I see people despairing here regarding the election rather than figuring out ways to cope and prepare. Me, I hope for the best and prepare for the worst.
