46 > The face does indeed look like it was photoshopped in..

I know that it was not uncommon for artists to pre-paint scenes of people wearing fancy clothes, in dramatic situations, or whatever, leaving out the heads. They'd do this during slack periods and would often have a whole bunch of them in stock.

Then when someone wanted a painting of themselves in a hurry, the customer would pick one out and the artist would slap their head on the body.

So yeah, basically an early Photoshop process.

50 Looking at Wiki, this artist did some excellent paintings with interesting aspects and appropriate color. This one seems rather washed out. And my first reaction on seeing it was that it was photoshopped and modern, not 1600s. The face reminds me of a model in a 1940s or 50s cigarette ad. The skin tones have that red tint, the smile seems posed from those ads and seems too big for the rest of the figure. the head seems too big for the rest of him.

61 Legend has it that a 17th century tavern owner in Sussex named Ben would use a tankard as a tip jar. At closing time the pub employees would compete at mumbledy peg and the first place finisher would claim all of that night's proceeds from the tip jar. This ritual came to be known as "Win Ben's Stein Money"

72 Found this description of this work out there on that Intarwebz thingy....

To the modern eye, Judith Leyster's
Jolly Toper is a strange painting. While Leyster painted many happy
people at the bottle, this jovial fellow stands out. His face is
enlarged and knowing, he's a caricature with tiny arms - an inside joke.

And sure enough, in the Netherlanders, in the 17th century, he was a joke. Our Jolly Toper was better known as Peeckelhaeringh,
a Dutch word for 'Pickled Herring'. Peeckelhaeringh was an immensely
popular jester, whose drunken antics were the themes of comedy plays.
The Toper's gesture, raising his jug to show that his drink is empty,
was known as a Kannenkijker, 'Jug-Looker' - a symbol that the show was
over, time to go home and sleep it off.

There is indeed a program called Paintshop Pro. I don't know if it still exists. It was basically a discount Photoshop. It did the trick reasonably well, and it was substantially cheaper, and easier to use than Photoshop.

I've used both programs, and I preferred it, really. I don't know why they called it "Paintshop" though. Most of its functions had to do with photo manipulation.

123 The New York Times on Friday released the findings of its internal investigation into star reporter Rukmini Callimachi's reporting on ISIS and extremism in the Middle East. The newspaper acknowledged that its Caliphate podcast gave "too much credence to the false or exaggerated accounts" of one of its main subjects, Shehroze Chaudhry, who has since been charged in Canada with concocting a terrorist hoax.

The paper of record rolled out its executive editor, Dean Baquet, to explain the glaring errors in another podcast, this time a "special episode" of The Daily. Baquet said: "When The New York Times does deep, big, ambitious journalism in any format, we put it to a tremendous amount of scrutiny at the upper levels of the newsroom... I just picked one up a few weeks back. To replace the one I was given on my 7th birthday. Mother has dementia and gave all my guns (and my dad's) away to a cousin with a sob story.

Not quite as nicely made as 50 years ago, but it does have some minor improvements. Mostly nostalgic but cool little rifles.

146 I watched a show about the Nazi control of art. They showed several of Big Adolph's paintings. The ironic thing was that despite his hatred for modern expressionist and abstract art, several of his paintings were rather impressionistic leaning toward van Gogh. Rather than being a conscious choice, it might have been a lack of technique.

Meanwhile, approved Nazi art was heroic representational images. In this way they resembled Soviet art. Of course, the Nazis were socialists.

Who is Jean-Luc Brunel?

It would be close to accurate to say he's the french Jeffrey Epstein.

This might be a big deal. It might be he's been arrested due to Trump's efforts. He knows things, just as Epstein does, and his arrest might be a direct result of Gislaine being is custody.

I think those are "spills" -- twisted pieces of paper that were used like matches. You'd stick the end of one on the charcoal and blow in it until it caught fire, then use it to light your pipe.

You can see a used one with a burnt end next to the bowl of charcoal.

I went with a long eye relief, low power scope on my Ruger 9mm PC - pretty sure it uses the same take down mechanism as the 10/22. Never had the thing lose zero - and it really shouldn't, since the scope rides with the barrel. I'm sure the 10/22 take down would perform just as well. I own a Rem 597, but I wouldn't hesitate to own a 10/22.

Turns out, according to a couple studies published in the last week or so, minorities *once hospitalized* have the same statistical outcome as whites. The authors are still looking for "systemic" reasons for the worse outcomes when not hospitalized, but I suspect it's that many simply don't consider the hospital an option until it's too late.

Actually I think Facebook has the right of it. Ad revenue is ad revenue, and Facebook isn't PBS (yet). Apple is choking off the competition so they can make all their users rely on Apple-owned social media and apps exclusive to Apple products. It's what Apple wants, a captive market where they dictate content and pocket 100% of ad revenue for themselves. Buy, American.

Line them up at attention in the oval office, look them in the eye, give the order.
Bring them back in 7 days. Demand status.
Arrest. Confine. Military Court Martial. Hard Time.

375 Actually I think Facebook has the right of it.

Couple this with Lin Wood's recent tweet and a rather eye-opening picture emerges.

Note that none of the half-dozen or so other cases are even being heard either.

It might be interesting to see how the Lin Wood tweet plays out. I'd say he's implicitly threatening the Chief Justice that there is intelligence that can out him doing Bad Things. Sidney Powell has received Military Intelligence, and is a close friend of, and working with Wood so Wood was probably fed intel as well.

There are still white hats with cards to play, so it's impossible to see where this whole thing goes.

It's good to see a microgram of sense once in a while.

My prog neighbor cornered me yesterday and axed me if I thought Biden won. She nearly became apoplectic when I calmly said, "No." Then she axed me if I watched Faux Nooz or any other conservative news outlet like I was some mind-numbed robot, and she got stymied again when I said, "No. I don't watch TV unless there's an Alabama game on, then I mute the stupid commercials."

Then she started parroting XiNN talking points in rapid-fire fashion. I just stood there and looked at her. Did I mention that she has TDS real bad? Can't wait until she starts in again so I can look her square in the eye and say, "Biden has dementia."

I can tell you this - in the power generation industry, there's been a big push in the last two years to put an air gap between the controllers that run the turbines and accessories, and the rest of the plant internet. I can also tell you they're mostly doing it wrong - because the HMIs that the operators run in the control room are usually still connected to plant and/or company wide email.

We can expect national blackouts in the near future. Trust me.

And if she starts in on my mad mafs skillz, I'll tell her that back when I had one of those job thingys, I dealt with a lot of math. I took it seriously and had to get it right because many times somebody's life would depend on it.

I don't know. How does Helen know when she's wiped enough?

BTW, "I'm not one to buy into conspiracy theories, but someone mentioned Helen Keller on a podcast I listen to, and I began to think how its even possible that she learned to communicate. I also want to say I wish I was not compelled by this because Helen Keller has an extremely inspiring story if were supposed to believe it truly."

There
is a traditional American response for what is going on in this
country; tar and feathering. Nobody dies, but it passes the message loud
and clear that this kind of behavior is unacceptable, and if we can do
that, we can do a lot more.

So, who needs tar and feathering? The
press, the tech giants, the FBI leadership, the billionaires, the
election officials, the traitors in the court system, Academia, local
mayors and governors, city councils, antifa, BLM, the members of the
swamp in DC, and particularly the DOJ, for refusing to protect our
rights.

Maybe they're tired of briefing someone who doesn't understand a word after good morning.

Who knows. Article says they'll resume in #twoweeks, just need a break for the holidays. Could just be a cover story. Could be a convenient pretext for something bigger about to drop. No idea.

Here - I'll deal some Hopium. Miller got an advance copy of the DNI brief - and shit is about to hit the fan. Hell - it could be that. I truly have no idea.

Politicians did die from being tarred and feathered. It is after all hot tar. The people back then did not care as it was fit punishment for the corrupt and a stern warning to the rest.

535 Actually I think Facebook has the right of it.
