Saturday Night Live Rips Staten Islanders Protesting For Their Right to Earn a Living

This is a bit old by now. I kept forgetting to post about it.

"SNL" star Pete Davidson said the anti-COVID lockdown protests there make the borough’s residents look like "babies" -- but quipped that he's glad he’s no longer the "worst thing about Staten Island," his native borough.

...

"And the owner said, no one wants to do that because they'll go out of business,"
Davidson said.

"But the argument that people in Staten Island don't want to drink outside can be disproven by going to literally any Little League game."

They probably don't want to drink outside, in New York, in December, because the overnight temperature is in the low thirties. Just a guess, Petey.

And meanwhile Petey and all of his SNL buddies (and virtually anyone in the "entertainment" and "news" industries) is given a special exception so that they may continue collecting a paycheck.

Saturday Night Live even has a live audience -- while Broadway is shut down, because live audiences aren't permitted.

And how do they manage that?

By claiming that audience members are actually... required employees.

Saturday Night Live doesn't have an actual audience -- it has a actors being paid $150 for a night's work of faking laughter sitting on its bleachers.

And that is real: SNL evades the ban on live audiences by simply admitting that no one would ever willingly sit to watch SNL for 90 minutes. Only people being paid $100 per hour would do such a thing.

"Saturday Night Live" hosted a live audience at its season premiere over the weekend -- by doling out $150 checks to audience members in order to comply with New York state's coronavirus regulations.

About 100 audience members collected the surprise checks at the end of the iconic sketch show’s Season 48 kickoff on Saturday night at NBC’s Studio 8H, the Democrat & Chronicle reported.

Current state regulations prohibit media productions from hosting live audiences unless they are made up of paid cast, crew or employees. The audience must be no more than 100 people or 25 percent of capacity, whichever is lower, and audiences must practice 6 feet of social distance in all directions, the state says.

But the brains behind "SNL" came up with the creative solution -- compensation -- and dispensed the free tickets through a third-party website in order to ensure an audience of no more than 100.

Problem is, the tyrant politicians now realize they have the "power" to do this basically unchecked. Especially if they have a cooperative state legislature. Those not fully entrapped by the temptations of dictatorship are watching closely and are highly susceptible to imposing their will if/when the time is right. They have been shown that it works, how it is done, and that with at least a partial backing of LEO -- the public will (mostly) comply.

134 something to remember before I leave for the day:

Let's all remember that the real "ruler" of the USA is not the President, or the Congress, or the Supreme Court, whose office-holders are elected and appointed and change over the years.

The true ruler of our republic is the Constitution. Now, you might say "we the people" are the rulers, but this being a republic, we the people elect people to lead, and we do so (and they lead us) through the framework and limitations provided by the Constitution.

The Constitution is the good cop to the Declaration of Independence's bad cop.

Basically, the Constitution is the government's promise to the people, written by the people* that the government (not the people) will behave and follow the rules. So long as it does, the scary old bad cop doesn't have to come back out, guns a'blazing, watering the tree of liberty with blood as Jefferson warned.

That's what so amazing about the founders of this country: They created a system of government that legally subjugates government to the will of the people.

*The founding fathers could have made themselves a conglomeration of tyrants ruling over the colonies. Instead, those enlightened idealists and dreamers decided simply to be people the same as the rest, and really and truly to let the people govern themselves. Then they wrote a document that was designed to be the absolute law of the land, whose purpose was not to list the rules and prohibitions imposed upon the people to ensure obedience to government, but rather the rules and prohibitions imposed on the government to ensure freedom of the people.

That's amazing.

Yet as Adams said, the Constitution is only good if the government and people are God-fearing. Godless people can't make use of such a Constitution. They will abuse it and ruin it, and the republic with it.

SCOTUS has a chance to look a the big picture and see that we are at a crossroads the likes of which we have not been since 1860. They can either drop the ball, ala Dred Scott, or they can rise to the moment and avert catastrophe.

While I don't think the rules should be this arcane, there are two justifications: (1) when you are having to dispose of lots of things in a timely fashion, all the color coding and what not serves a sorting/organizational function (there's a lot of paper, or was before things started going electronic); and (2) if you leave counsel to their own devices, you will get a bewildering array of poorly thought out formats. I work for an appellate court, and the childlike nature of some of the filings is depressing.

No doubt the scumbag is relying on his accomplices in the "media" to keep the public in the dark about what the evidence will show: that Floyd died as a result of his own actions, by a self-administered overdose of fentanyl, three times the lethal amount, that he shoved up his ass long before he had any contact with the cops, who restrained him exactly as they had been trained to do (by the black-Democrat-led Minneapolis PD) when dealing with suspects exhibiting signs of drug use and excited delirium, such as anxiety, paranoia, and disorientation, all of which Floyd was clearly displaying in the videotapes of his arrest.
