I won't comment on linked in, because without work my family will starve but there are so many levels of fail it hurts my head. They are an audit company... one I will never hire to check the math on my last dinner receipt. Not to mention the Covid component to this... I snipped the post for when trump wins... so I can ask about it.

Thought came to me tonight: How long has it been since you saw a stranger smile? They say seeing someone smile can really help fix a bad mood. It can even be the difference between life and death for someone on the edge. But if you live in a Mask Nazi state, it has been months since you have seen a stranger smile. It's even worse when you realize you don't even see children smile, since they also have the fascist masks. And this is healthy? No. But it is part of the plan.

The "people" responsible for this "evil" are ..... their parents. Not a single school board swarmed - or my heavens, perish the thought anyone actually un-elected - in response to all this. A few "public health" cretins fired at state and county level, but not over school closures.
Note that even the preposterous arrogant incompetent Fauci, and his buffoonish idiot colleague Redfield of the CDC, had advised against school closures. I've been asking younger neighbors with little kids about this whole thing - carefully and indirectly, of course. As "education" it's failing, of course - this they actually bring up themselves. They don't even mention the social aspect. And they readily acknowledge what a family disaster it is for most families, who can't afford nannies. None of this would be going on one minute past the time the citizens, including in this case the parents of school kids, stopped putting up with it. We have a Zimbabwean political class, and a North Korean population. Posted by: rhomboid at December 07, 2020 08:26 PM (OTzUX) 117

real Christmas problems - I was putting out Christmas lights in the yard yesterday and I was reminded how I hate the way all the outside strings have fuses built in to their plugs. They're super sensitive and as soon as you get a few plugged into each other or some bulb breaks or something their fuses start blowing and it's a giant pain in the ass. So I keep some 2 prong plugs around and every time a fuse blows I just cut off that stupid fuse plug and splice in a standard plug. For some reason it always gives me a good deal of pleasure to do it the way I want to do it, not the way they want me to.

To mark the day, reading Dec. 7 1941:The Day the Japanese Attacked Pearl Harbor.
This book is centered around the attack, of the people involved, and their impressions. So in many ways it is an oral history of the attack. Saturday in DC Kurusu would expound at length to two Americans in two settings how Japan was really exhausted but the military was the problem that had to be worked around. From the American recollections, Kurusu was definitely out of the loop. The Japanese embassy in DC received a heads-up message to be ready to receive Japan's reply to the US letter from Nov 26. Then another message came in ordering them not to use a typist. So they improvised. The FBI intercepted an 18 minute phone call from a Tokyo newspaper to a Japanese dentist. They finally made a transcript on 6 Dec. Amid talk of flowers the dentist's wife was asked questions like how many planes are flying. And then in some truly bad trade craft the 'reporter' said to give his regards to the wife, forgetting he was talking to the wife. This is the Mori conversation and it spooked the spooks. Kita of the Japanese embassy would throw parties and invite many locals to attend. One of the American spooks would attend just to learn more about the embassy and staff. During one of these parties the geishas tossed a prominent Honolulu businessman into a blanket. Gen. Short returning from a party Saturday night and after being briefed on the Mori conversation looked upon the brightly lit Battleship Row and stated "What a target that would make!" But still no inkling the target could be Pearl. So it is a fascinating read. Posted by: Anna Puma at December 07, 2020 08:30 PM (K0SJh) 137

I still remember his dad (Air Force Colonel) slapping down a 2" thick hunk of beef on my plate the literal second I finally managed to put the last bit in my mouth. My mother was a single mom and gone a lot, so I tended to drift. These folks kept me off the streets and out of trouble on weekends. I know at my age we all had hollow legs, so most homes were fairly well stocked with grub. Always have a little extra, it won't go bad. I too would be paying it forward if I had any teen kids. You know when I was a kid, what I wanted more than anything was a sword. Anyone else remember the kids cartoon movie Flight of Dragons? I always remember the knights speech when he faces down the evil dragon with only his sword. Posted by: Aetius451AD Johnson work phone at December 07, 2020 07:39 PM (zZXDy) --- If anyone has a youngster who likes sword-stuff, Nerf makes good ones - that's a bit of an understatement because they're REALLY good and hold up a long time - but they're hard to find. After our son's Nerf one from last Christmas finally broke in a way that was too dangerous to let him keep using it (sharp pointy plastic tip now), we tried one from Amazon made by Blades USA. It's more of a training sword and it doesn't have as much "give" as the Nerf sword, but it's really, really great. There are ninja swords, broad swords, and others, and they're a more solid material so you can spray paint them if you want them to look like actual swords. Well worth $20. @136 To mark the day, reading Dec. 7 1941:The Day the Japanese Attacked Pearl Harbor.
This book is centered around the attack, of the people involved, and their impressions. So in many ways it is an oral history of the attack. ------------- One fun fact that I noted elsewhere today is that the fourth Ford-class carrier will be named after someone who fought at Pearl Harbor. As you probably already know, Doris "Dori" Miller was a cook who ended up manning an anti-aircraft gun on the Oklahoma, and ended up receiving the Navy Cross for his actions that day. Sadly, he didn't survive the war, and died two years later. CVN-81 will be the second ship named after him, and the first carrier in who knows how long that's named after someone who was never a high-ranking individual. @155 I wonder, why didn't the planes fire a few bursts from the 50 cals on the way down?
--------------- The ships are huge. The planes were too high up to aim properly. The chance of actually hitting anywhere even remotely close to a gun and its crew was pretty slim. And the pilots had more important things to worry about (namely, making sure that their dive stayed centered on their target) than remembering to press the trigger on the guns. And if the bomb did hit (most of them missed), then the devastation caused by one bomb would grossly outweigh the potential damage of a few extra rounds from the guns. The ships are huge.
Posted by: junior at December 07, 2020 09:12 PM (PTw5h) Haven't seen it mentioned, but it would be smart to keep the .50 cal ammo in the drums, in case the dive bombers had to fight off enemy aircraft on the run back to the carrier. There was a Nat Lamp spoof article on the Welsh sport of 'Putting Down Weasels'. The competition consisted of wearing baggy pants, with the ankles tied shut, then shoving a weasel down your trousers. The idea being to see who could last the longest. The 'comments' by the competitors were pretty damned funny.

Duke imagine this
You a Dauntless pilot. Running low on fuel because McClusky had to search for the Japanese. You arrive high over the carriers. So far no flak or fighters to mar the blue sky. Sure you've already charged both .50 since the charging handles are right there in front. You slide closed your plotting board into the instrument panel. Snug yourself in your seat one more time. Chat with your gunner. You are also watching McClusky to see when he will signal the dive. Scanning just in case a Zero does show up. There goes McClusky as he noses over while deploying the dive flaps, that Insignia Red inside the dive flaps is really noticeable. Now you make sure you've armed your bomb and leaned down to make sure you can reach the bomb release lever. Now you push over following your section leader. Dive flaps out. Altimeter winding down at a fearsome rate it seems. 18,000. 15,000. The Japanese take notice and the first few puffs of anti-aircraft fire reach out. Suddenly your windscreen fogs up because you are now in far warmer air. You peer through the telescopic sight as your hands and feet start getting you lined up on that wooden deck with the rising sun on it. It swells in your vision as you try to keep the crosshairs on that deck full of planes. The carrier heels in evasive maneuver trying to throw off your aim. You adjust. The deck is also getting bigger. You hastily sneak a look at your altimeter and see you are now below 5,000ft. Just seconds to go it seems but it also seems like forever. They are still shooting at you but you don't have time to notice. You glue your eye to the telescopic sight and keep that rising sun centered. Then at a moment of your choosing pull the lever. Beneath your plane, the trapeze swings your bomb clear of the propeller. You in the cockpit feel the lurch as the plane suddenly gets lighter. You yank back on the stick and close the dive flaps that have kept your dive steady with no buffeting. Glance at the altimeter shows 1,800ft and you wonder if you released too soon. As thees thoughts flash through your mind you also notice the target is firing at you, you can see sailors on the deck and planes warming up. And all you want to do at that point is to get as far away as possible. Still you can't help but look back while skimming low over the water to keep the Zeros from shooting your belly. You see near misses bracket the carrier in towering plumes of water and then there are hits, dark dirty eruptions smiting that carrier. Sure you can pull the triggers on the .50s but you got a lot of other things you need to do also - firstly hitting the carrier. Posted by: Anna Puma at December 07, 2020 09:18 PM (K0SJh) 307

Who I think hadn't hit a home run batting lefthanded since... eh, since... the Truman Administration. Corks it into right... this is gonna be a home run! Go crazy folks, go crazy.... Two days later the Dodgers, facing elimination, are leading in Game 6. Up to the plate steps Jack Clark. Tom Niedenfuer, same pitcher who gave up Smith's home run, is on the mound. Jack jacks one into left field bleachers. For all intents and purposes, the game is over. Cards win, go to the World Series. I bet it's the Ozzie home run that keeps Niedenfuer up at night, to this day. Not the Clark one. Posted by: BurtTC at December 07, 2020 09:23 PM (hku12) 329

It is presumed Constitutional until a court says it isn't. Until ultimately the Supreme Court say it isn't. That is why I am asking if there is a challenge to it in process. If so hooray. after 100?
...the so-called "church" of Bergoglio does not hesitate to close churches, arrogating to itself the wicked right to deny God public worship and to deprive the faithful of the grace of the Sacraments through a wretched connivance with civil power. This "church" humiliates the Most Holy Trinity, lowering it to the level of idols and demons with sacrilegious rituals of a neo-pagan religion. It snatches the crown and scepter away from Christ the King in the name of Masonic Globalism; it offends the Co-Redemptrix and Mediatrix in order not to annoy the heretics, Her enemies. It betrays the duty of preaching the Gospel in the name of dialogue and tolerance. It silences and adulterates Sacred Scripture and the Commandments of God in order to please the spirit of the world. It tampers with the sublime and inviolable words of the Prayer which the Lord Himself taught us. It profanes the holiness of the Priesthood, cancelling the spirit of penance and mortification in clergy and religious and abandoning them to the seductions of the devil. It denies two thousand years of history, despising the glories of Christianity and the wise intervention of Divine Providence in earthly affairs. It zealously follows fashions and idelogies rather then molding souls to follow Christ. It makes itself a slave of the Prince of this world in order to preserve its prestige and power. It preaches the blasphemous cult of man and refuses the sovereign rights of God. And when Bergoglio speaks, the faithful are almost always scandalized and disoriented, because his words are the exact opposite of what they expect to hear from the Vicar of Christ. He asks for obedience to his own authority even as he uses it to destroy the Papacy and the Church, contradicting all of his Predecessors, none excluded. Now does everyone see why I harped on my gantt chart and the calendar? Because the most precious commodity is time. There are also milestone dates written into law. Milestone dates and time that are a brick walls we are fast approaching. Some people are all, dates are meaningless they can just be blown off!!! Well they can't and they won't be. Will state legislatures come to the rescue? I don't fucking know, probably not. Trump and his team have 7 days until the 14th to get this shit in front of the SCOTUS or get a result from state legislatures, if they will take the cases and if the legislatures will comply. Once upon a time there was a mother otter who developed amnesia after a blow to the head. She couldn't remember her name, and in order to transact basic daily business would sign her name by pressing her paw onto whatever document required a signature. After several weeks her memory returned and she went back to using her real name and signature.
Thus, she became the otteress formerly known as Prints. Posted by: Muldoon at December 07, 2020 09:30 PM (m45I2) 368

We raised 3 sons and although I love to cook, hubby and I made sure all 3 boys were kitchen-competent before they left for college. Middle son always called me to discuss recipes whenever he spent weekends with this one particular girlfriend and her family. And after the 2nd or 3rd phone call -- based on his questions -- I suspected he was preparing complete meals for this girlfriend's entire family, which he eventually confirmed. He also informed us that no one in this 5-person family knew how to cook, and that they dined out or bought take-out meals almost every night!

Posted by: dartist at December 07, 2020 08:59 PM (+ya+t) I played in a game that started catastrophically. Our pitcher couldn't find the strike zone, and when he did, he couldn't miss a bat, and then our fielders couldn't catch a ball, and when they did, they threw it away, as everybody was then tight, trying their best to record an out. It was a nightmare. We came up in the bottom of the 1st, down 11-zip. But we didn't freak. Nobody bitched anybody out, no recriminations, no nothing. The other team was laughing and high-fiving each other, figuring they had this in the bag. But ... we were the best team in the league. We played our game, and gradually chipped away at their lead. Our opponents were getting increasingly nervous, as the lead slipped through their fingers like sand, until in the 7th inning, we tied the score. We went on to win the game. ------------ I like it as the name for a carrier, though I admit it's partly for political reasons. First of all, President Trump is now the first US President to name a US carrier after a black man. Second, getting a carrier named after you is kind of the "big deal" right now. Only the most important people (and WW2 vets) get carriers named after them And now one is named after a cook. I can see the Dems really wanting to change the name on the fourth carrier for both of those reasons. They won't want Trump to get the fame of being the first to name a carrier after a black man, and they'll want to name the carrier after one of their own prominent individuals. But they can't. Because that name is already issued. And if they dare to even *suggest* changing the name of CVN-81, then the black constituency will be ticked off. Actually clutch, torpedo bombers often, when possible, would attempt come in at acute angles from either side of the bow (hammer and anvil, I think they called it). To make it more difficult for the ship to evade the torpedoes.
I think dive bombers did attempt to approach parallel to the ship to give them the full length to target, though I thought at Midway it was so sudden that they just pushed over when the could and went from there. Best took his section to attack Akagi, so that all wouldn't be going after Kaga (unless I've transposed the two) - not sure how he approached her. I taught myself to be a good cook because I enjoy it, and I enjoy good tasting food. My wife thought she could cook early on, but she was always stuck on the idea that it had to be "healthy" and Good For You, and then she'd try to make it taste good. My motto is that it has to Taste Good first, and then I try to make it healthy. Eventually I took over all the cooking duties.

280 217 People giving up must never have played sports. Nothing like getting the shit kicked out of you in baseball and not being able to leave until the last out. Then the least likely guy on the team hits a home run and you win the game. Did I ever tell you about the time our Men's League team came back to win despite being down 18 runs by the bottom of the 7th and final inning? Our Coach still has the scorebook somewhere... One more stupid memory before going back to lurking on important things, but does anyone else remember discovering bleach after working night shift and watching daytime TV for the first time? Seeing how great I could make your clothes look, but not reading the"add after tub fills with water"note? And then trying to make all the blue jeans you owned blue again with Rit dye? And having all the white parts turn purple? Or was that just me?

We pushed back a little with Pat Buchanan and Ross Perot. They laughed us off the stage.
We pushed back more with Newt Gingrich. They forced us to settle for (the honorable but tired) Bob Dole. We pushed back more with the Tea Party. They foisted upon us Willard Mitt. We said no more and forced them to take Donald Trump. And for four years they have fought him (and, by extension, us) every step of the way. Now they have gone along willingly with an attempt to steal our election. Trump was only ever just a vessel of our demand to have our voice heard. So for everyone saying "I'll quit if Trump quits" let me just say "I won't quit then either." Posted by: pmurT at December 07, 2020 10:54 PM (0LcQz) 509
