The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg
Back in 1958, Hollywood released Stanley Kramer's film The Defiant Ones, a story of two escapes prisoners, one black (Sidney Poitier) and the other white (Tony Curtis) who hated each other but had to learn to work together to not get recaptured. I think most people agree that this can be seen as a commentary on race relations in America, at least as it was in the late 50s.

So I think we're getting to the point where we need a reboot. Only instead of a black guy and a white guy, we need, say, a white, genderfluid soy-boy and an Hispanic construction worker wearing a MAGA hat. Who are somehow forced together, maybe they're both in the same lifeboat or trapped in an airplane with irreparable damage that is slowly getting worse until it can no longer stay up. Something like that.

The point is, they have to work together to avoid getting killed. And thus the new cultural fault lines can be easily seen.

But such a movie cannot yet be made. I think The Defiant Ones> could be a success because some progress in race relations had been made, even back then. Obviously a lot of work still needed to be done, but that a story that could serve as an illustration of the folly of racism could be shown without angry mobs burning the theaters down is an indication of progress.

Not so now.

Right now, we are in the middle of a cold war that is heating up seemingly every week and it may go hot at any moment. Some days, I feel like I'm in a garage with a lot of oil-soaked rags and some cans of gasoline and the temperature outside is climbing past 102 and oh no, here comes someone with a lit cigarette.

Plus, I despise the other side. That is, I despise everything they stand for. I've compared them (progressives) on this forum to viruses, parasites, and vampires. I think audiences in 1958 could watch TDO and have some sympathy for both men. And Kramer didn't make one of the an obvious good guy and the other an obvious bad guy. I have no such objectivity. If I were writing the script of the new movie, the first thing I'd do is have the Hispanic MAGA guy grab a tire iron and beat the gendefluid soy-boy into a bloody, lifeless pulp. Then he could get on with it. Such a scene would be an apt parable of what I think of progressivism, but I admit it would make a lousy movie. I can't imagine what such a character would bring to a dangerous situation that would be an asset. His degree in Innuit lesbian poetry would be useless. And no doubt he would feel the same about me.

So it may be awhile before such a remake could be produced.

By the way, I know we all can't wait until 2020 is over, but do we really think 2021 is going to bring unicorns, rainbows and Skittles? We may be entering a phase of protracted instability that will take years to resolve, one way or the other. Contested elections, rioting, and street brawls are just the beginning, not the culmination. I'm old enough now that whatever civic instability has started, I might not live long enough to see the end of.

31 The trouble with judges, reps, senators, etc, is they are largely immune to the destructive policies of leftist elites. Their jobs are not in jeopardy, their tax increases are barely noticed with their high salaries. Higher gas prices, food prices, cost of living across the board; none of it affects them. They live on a different level so it's easy for them to shrug and say "it's Biden's turn. he cheated fair and square" while the rest of us little people suffer.

We are no longer a nation of we the people. We are a feudal nation, forced to serve at the pleasure of our betters.

Center for Tech and Civic Life

This is the "non-profit" that Zuckerberg gave $400 million to so local key counties could fund Dominion voting machines for free if they can't afford them, as long as local election officials don't look inside at how they operate.

CTCL is run by former Obama leftists.

Another point to connect in the scam.

And over $80 million of Zucker money went to "grants" in cities like Philadelphia, for drop boxes with no chain of custody, and giant consolidated counting centers, to control vote counting. Remember, a billionaire wanted to keep his 230 protection, that Trump was threatening to eliminate it.

Massive fraudulent voting. Only in the huge Democrat run cities.

Direct payoff to buy the election from a billionaire for direct benefit, and so far, to quote Harry Reid, "It worked, didn't it?"

117 Also, "M" uses the "In the hall of the mountain king" theme from Peer Gynt, by Edvard Grieg.

Lots of things do, it's pretty iconic.

Unfortunately for me, the prof who showed the film asked what the music was, and I answered, but first with just the name of the piece. Then he asked the composer, and I told him. And then the work, and I told him. And then he asked what is happening to Peer during the piece in the play, and I told him.

So I knew all that but of course no one else in the class did; you'd think the liberal arts majors would be the ones to know, not the engineer. But liberal arts has been crap forever I guess.

Anyway let's just say I earned the enduring hatred of my classmates for a favorable impression with the prof that day, sort of against my wishes.

I was working a Tea Party rally here during Barry's Reign of Terror, and some guy took pictures of each and every one of us (we were stupidly wearing name badges). It was right after that that the TSA begin singling me out Every Single Time I flew, for a full pat-down, etc. This went on for years. It finally ended when I contacted my congress critter after Trump won.

I liked the movie, and if you recall there's a scene at the end where Dennis Quaid has to go rescue the alien's son from a mine where he's being used as slave labor. That scene got added in by the producers after initial shooting was over, and this was how it went.
Producers: "The movie is called "Enemy Mine". But there's no enemy mine in the movie."
Director: "No, you see it's a literary phrase, it's not literal."
Producers: "We don't get it. Put an enemy mine in the movie."
Director: "ok whatever."
That is seriously what happened, not a joke.

They knock on the door, ask if the person who voted there was actually that person, and if not, ("oh, he died two years ago" - "oh, will you sign this affidavit saying that, and can I take your picture?" - "sure")
This has been going on a few days now, and they aren't telling their numbers because they are still working hard, but one comment was they will get tens of thousands of illegal vote affidavits.

189 I think The Defiant Ones> could be a success because some progress in race relations had been made, even back then

WWII was a watershed for race relations in the US. *Something* changed that popular culture didn't notice, and that historians have largely overlooked.

Anecdotes: the Jack Benny show recycled a script post-WWII that they had used pre-WWII. The post-WWII performance received negative feedback because of the jokes directed towards Rochester.

The Battle of Athens, TN, was kicked off by a black man being barred from the polling station. It wasn't so much about his color (for the local machine) as his political loyalty, but post-WWII you have a bunch of veterans willing to put their lives on the line to ensure blacks had access to the vote.

There was an attitude shift during or because of WWII. It may have taken the civil rights movement to motivate the changes, but that new attitude was critical.

261 192 I think The Defiant Ones> could be a success because some progress in race relations had been made, even back then

1. Biden/Kamala campaign, event, appearances etc...

2. Efforts to panic the public with corona and systemically change the voting process by absentee/mail-in votes, harvesting etc..

Hands down number 2. The campaign was barely noticeable. The Dems/BigTech/DeepState relied almost entirely on the process, which has produced the results they wanted. That is where the fraud was and won't be undone by courts or legislators. It was/is a boot in our face...forever.

He asked patients with virus symptoms to wear a mask in his office, but told everyone else to not bother, because it won't stop the virus.

“She has no jurisdiction to be imposing shutdowns and to be telling any doctor how to practice medicine,” LaTulippe told the outlet. “I don’t think she knows as much as I do about microbiology, virology, epidemiology and infectious disease.”

LaTulippe has treated approximately 75 cases of coronavirus, he said, adding that all of his patients recovered without requiring hospitalization. Describing covid as “a rapidly mutating virus,” LaTulippe believes “COVID-19 is no more” and has already mutated into multiple strains.

So why was this doctor of 20 years experience suspended of his license?

Maybe because he was at a Stop the Steal rally and gave a speech hmm?

I do think she committed fraud, though.

Posted by: President-elect Emmie at December 07, 2020 12:02 PM (ofYez)

314 Certain types of Michigan voter fraud, due to [Michigan] state election laws, cannot be effectively challenged with a recount.

The poll book had been updated on the Saturday before election day, and yet there were tens of thousands of brand-new voters registered Monday or Tuesday. According to Cushman, he wrote down the names of these suspicious voters, and after he started recording the voter fraud happening in his midst, he was ejected. He was prevented from writing down the names.

"We were afraid from objecting too much, because GOP Poll Challengers were being arbitrarily ejected all day long."

During the voter fraud hearing this past week before the Michigan House, Democrat Representative David LaGrand asked Rudy Giuliani, the President's attorney, why, if there was suspected fraud by witnesses like Cushman, that a recount was not requested within the days required under Michigan law.

Cushman explains why that would be pointless: Michigan law PREVENTS the recount of any ballot box where the number reported from the box doesn't match the number of ballots inside the box. Meaning that a box with 200 ballots and reporting 1000 votes for Biden, cannot be recounted. The elections officials refer to this as "unbalanced" boxes, but they are an indication of something seriously, severely, wrong in the election results from Wayne County.

In Wayne County, 71% of the absentee ballot boxes DO NOT MATCH. Meaning that they CANNOT BE RECOUNTED.

Explains Cushman: "If there's mass fraud going on, you can't check it through a recount."

Yeah, that Eleanor Roosevelt. The one who's husband re-segregated the armed forces during the rearmament and draft leading up to WWII and thus undid years of progress in this regard after WWI (the armed forces weren't formally integrated, but there were many integrated units and it was gaining speed until Franklin got involved).

The military was the first major institution to really start to push desegregation hard, and we can credit that to the influence of Gen'l Black Jack Pershing. (Eisenhower served as an aide to Pershing early in his career) WW2 introduced millions of working class American men to the ideas of desegregation, and they found that it made a lot of sense. Of course blacks weren't yet treated fully equally in the WW2 military, but it was still an order of magnitude better than it had ever been before.

Some conspiracy theories are dumber than others, so you probably won't be able to keep this resolution forever, but I've long had a problem with the one-sided enforcement against "conspiracy theories" by the MSM. Conspiracy theories are often about people processing the weird, the random, the unexplainable, the whatever ... so the attempted prohibition against "conservative" or "rightwing" conspiracy theories is pretty close to an attempt at mindcontrol (put the tinfoil hat on now) of conservative minded folk. When Notre Dame burned and immediately the MSM coverage forbid all talk of arson (muslim or otherwise) as unsupported conspiracy mongering, that aspect of this was really apparent considering we were a couple of years into the "Putin Hacked" the election stuff at that point.

Always a good idea. My standard word of warning is never upgrade higher than the location, or, if the home is "wanting" for the location, just put lipstick on the pig. I've seen people that upgrade when it's not necessary, as the prospective buyers are going to gut the place, or even raze it. I've also seen people do incredible upgrades and it's too much for the neighborhood.

I've got to take the plunge on new appliances for a 20 year old home, but not going to overdo as it's almost at the point a buyer will redo the kitchen anyway. I'm definitely looking at bailing from CA before the bubble bursts, and keep maybe one property for income.

Somewhat related: Pershing's nickname WASN'T Black Jack.... originally. He'd spent many of his early Army years commanding Buffalo Soldiers in the West. When he took over as commandant at West Point, he was hated by the cadets because he was EXTREMELY strict. So they started calling him N****r Jack, as an insult behind his back. The name caught on and stayed with him, although it was softened once he began getting press.

The characters perfect for a reboot. Maybe they can import one of those actual men they seem to be growing in Australia to play the Heston role.

The character that most struck me was the effeminate building manager who gets off on beating the 'furniture' assigned to the apartments. That should be a black, trans, heroine addict. The plot contains a conspiracy to keep an important piece of public information secret, the officials are all corrupt as a matter of course, and the wages of feminism have been taken to fruition. The education system has failed, utterly. Even the governor of NY is an italian deeply embroiled in the conspiracy. This movie is ready.

I don't know who can ever hope to play the role of the Edward G. Robinson Role. Maybe Mel Gibson. A tweak here and a tweak there, and that is a movie ready to illustrate America in 2021.

If you watch enough police interrogation videos, you see the difference between how a guilty person acts, from how an innocent person acts.

And I'd say 9/10 times, the cops know which is which. When they get it wrong though, they can get it spectacularly wrong though, in that sometimes innocent people say/do things that cops THINK means they're guilty, when it's just this particular guy is... different.

Given all that, my suggestion to anyone is, don't DO whatever it is they're accusing of doing, and don't try to ACT innocent, because that means they think they got you, and you'll at the very least spend the next 24-48 hours answering the same damn questions over and over and over and over and over again.

405 The military was segregated on Woody Wilson's order. It had been integrated since 1860. Blacks as a percent of the population of the North was miniscule. By drafting 2M white guys in 1917 created a labor shortage in industrial towns of the north that was filled by blacks. After WWI the KKK became kingmaker in Dem politics and most of the Klansmen were white yankees. See the Great Klan Bake - 1924 Democratic Convention in NJ/NY. Largest Klan Rally in history. 417 She was one of the most underrated aspects of the Mean Girls movie. While Lohan and McAdams got to chew scenery... even Lizzie Kaplan, who I love, was overplaying her role, but there was Amanda... quietly capturing the essence of a character who is vital to such high school dynamics.

Not just her lines though, if you watch just her, while in the forefront McAdams is usually dominating in some manner or another, notice how Amanda is absorbing everything. That's not just not doing anything, that's not doing anything in a way that is absolutely essential for McAdams' character to have the audacity to be who she is... and I was gonna say "to be the bitch," but really, you gotta give Rachel a lot of credit here too. Her character COULD have been basically one dimensional, and she managed to make her more human too.

419 Here's my husband's story about his dad at Pearl Harbor:

'I post this annually to always remember "Pearl Harbor Day December 7th 1941". My father was 19 years old in Hawaii in the Army Air Corps (This is before there was an Air Force). It was Sunday morning, he had the day off. He was dressed in his Khakis, leaving Scofield Barracks headed to the mess hall. The barracks he just left, blew up, his first thought was the old boiler had exploded. Then the street was covered with machine gun scraffing as a Japanese Zero flew over head and was firing at him. He hit the ditch and saved himself. He quickly made his way over to his B 17 bomber (Flying Fortress) that was at Hickam Field. Once he got there he saw the plane was blown up. The next few days were spent burying his friends and comrades. They repaired the field rebuilt some of the Air planes ( He would tell the story how they took the front of a Bomber named Daisy Mae and put it on the bottom of a Bomber named Superman. He served as a Radio man because he knew Morse code from the boy scouts, he was also a Bombardier, tail and belly gunner. Think of the adrenaline rush from being in a Glass bubble under a plane looking down 10,000 feet while shooting dual 50 caliber machine guns as Japanese zeros were coming at you. His Heavy bomber group was part of the Island hoping campaign in the South Pacific. He was personally written up in the stars and strips as the high point R & R man of the war. (meaning he saw more war time in than any other man), My father died on 14 Nov., 1995. The dog tags are the ones he wore at Pearl Harbor & WWII, the other set are from Korea.'

423 The only way to break through to people who don't read alternative news - and a whole lot of them know that things are fishy, they just don't have details - is to abuse the EAS.

Trump could - and I think he should, even though it actually *would* be unprecedented - use the Emergency Alert System (formerly the Emergency Broadcast System, formerly CONELRAD) to pre-empt all broadcasts in the United States and most of the cablecasts, and use them for an oval office address to lay out exactly what went on, with witnesses and graphs and pretty pictures. Anyone who cuts the feed goes to prison for interfering with emergency communications.

It's never been done. It would be hugely disruptive. It *might* be illegal (not that it matters at this point anyway). But it might also work.

430 As promised last night on the Gun Thread.

My parents were up early this Sunday morning 79 years ago today. My dad was on the USS Cachalot, a submarine stationed at Pearl and on this particular morning, it was the only sub outside the sub pens. She was moored behind the Pennsylvania that was in dry dock, and just ahead of the Helena and Oglala. Being small and tucked in next to the pier, she would ride out the attack unscathed.
The 'ol man was the Chief of the Forward Torpedo Room and the third ranking NCO on the Boat. The only reason he was there that morning was because he had the "Duty" which means he would be the senior guy on the Boat for that Sunday. All the military types know what pulling Duty means. My parents lived in Pearl City just on the other side of Ford Island. Mom rose early to get breakfast and to tend to my oldest brother who was not quite walking at the time. Once she got dad on his way, she would be doing some washing that had been piling up.

Dad had arrived at the Cachalot a bit early, checked in, and relieved the man who had the Duty from the night previously. He did the changeover, took charge, and at this point, things were settling into a normal quiet Sunday morning. He would never admit it, but I suspect he was reading the paper as well. He was just getting to the bridge when someone shouted General Quarters. He's wondering WTH??? He looked around and saw what was happening and, as he had the keys, sent one of the men to unlock the weapons and ammunition. As they were in port, all the weapons were locked up but being a sub, and small, and having about 60% of the crew already there (it was where the men slept) the ship was quickly able to get its first .50 cal up and firing. The Cachalot would be granted 1/2 credit for a shootdown.

Meanwhile mom was outside, hanging laundry. My brother was playing in his playpen. (Whenever they show this scene in a Pearl Harbor movie I immediately think of my mom.) She heard the planes flying over and figured they were ours, although she later told me they seemed awfully low. She watched them for a bit and even waved at a couple...some of the pilots waved back. Then she started hearing the explosions and saw the smoke. A neighbor lady came over wondering what was happening. Another neighbor came over and said they were under attack. They walked down to the end of the street to see the Harbor better and watched. She later got together with the other wives of the sub and pitched in as needed around the neighborhood and on the base. She never talked much about that. She made a lot of bandages.

Dad would not get home for several days. He went through the recall roster although that really wasn't necessary as the officers had figured it out and got back to the Boat. When they weren't shooting, they were assisting in firefighting nearby, and with the wounded. The Oglala was sunk and the Helena seriously damaged. It would be a few weeks before they would have their first war patrol.

Mom would be sent back to the Mainland along with their car and belongings. She and another wife would eventually drive across the country to New London to wait like so many other submarine wives. The car that dad had driven into work that morning had three bullet holes in it. Mom said they pounded some wooden plugs into them to keep the water out and it became a bit of a story for them on their drive to Connecticut. Every time they stopped for gas, people would gather around to see.

That is their story. Dad would do two war patrols before being promoted to Chief of the Boat and he would go on to do over a dozen patrols in the war. Mom bounced around as wives typically did back then, between New London, Key West and Long Beach in California. She finally got back to Hawaii by the end of the war.

My cousin was an ADA in a gritty East Coast that needed all the ADAs it could muster. He said that he gained convictions on many many criminals for one reason: they tried to prove that they were smarter than he was, and God knows, they weren't. If they'd just followed the public defender's advice, they'd have been fine. But no, they had to gild the lily, adducing further details that they thought would add to their credibility, but in fact contradicted what they'd said earlier, and made clear that they were lying. (My favorite: the guy who claimed he'd been at the movies, in a movie theater that had been closed for renovation. Oops.)

Next thing they knew, they were on a bus to the state pen, where they'd have some years to reflect on their trial strategy.

442 My mom tells the story of when the family went to Hawaii for my grandfather's second wedding years ago, in the early 80s. They went out to the Pearl memorial. Mom says she just hopes those Japanese tourists couldn't hear my grandfather, an Army Air Corps veteran... (he was in the European theater, though. My other grandfather was in the Pacific theater, assigned to hold an island that was used for supply logistics. He came home hating the very name of coconuts and never ate another damned coconut as long as he lived.)

Agreed. Remember, many more people voted for Trump than didn't. Bigly. And they are ticked. And mobilized. And you have former leftists who know well how the left thinks and how to maneuver like them. Plus I don't think Trump is going anywhere. He will not go gently into that good night.

If that newly mobilized force can combat the uniparty and the now blatant election fraud, we will see.

I'm reading "Mission", actor Jimmy Stewart's bio. He was WWII B-24 Bomber pilot and group commander. I just reached the point where has become mentally and physically beaten, and it's early 1944 and he has "only" flew about 12 missions. I think it changed him.

445 I believe Trump was robbed and he has every right--including a moral one---to fight.

But I just don't see anyone overturning this.

You are wrong Joe... you have to be wrong or our republic is over and things are going to get VERY ugly VERY quickly.

We have to fight this with all we have and we have to win or we will be fighting a much bloodier war.

448 The military was segregated on Woody Wilson's order. Also the longest nomination convention in America's history.

And it started desegregating after WWI (I think that started under Coolidge, but I'd have to look). That continued until the Left's favorite fascist - FDR - took over and resegregated everything again.
Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at December 07, 2020 12:21 PM (hYcqw)

And then the Democrats took credit for Truman desegregating the military. ("Yay us!") Forgetting to mention that other Democrats were responsible for segregating it in the first place.

George McGovern was also a bomber pilot in WWII, yet he never mentioned it in campaigning, unlike that ambulatory turd Francois Kerry, who couldn't stop talking about - and lying about - his time in Vietnam.

They sit on it.

Your move.

*************

Yup. Same with declassifying documents.

Let's say Trump ordered Gina Haspel to declassify everything in regards to Russiagate that the CIA had.

She wouldn't do it.

She'd read his angry twitter rant ordering this.

She'd say 'that's nice, but I'm waiting for the offical written order on White House stationary."

Later that week, she'd get the order. She'd say we are reviewing it...and then nothing.

Trump sends out another rage tweet...she delays...and then Trump is out of office, Biden is in office, and she get's a freakin' gold star for resistance heroism or some such nonsense.

Trump had a lot of power to do things, but power that isn't executed isn't power.

Now it's too late.

It's one reason I enjoy our baseball practices: we get a complete cross-section of society (airline pilots, physicians, construction workers, cops, restaurant workers, the lot), and a range of ages from 20 to 75.

This is one of the arguments in favor of universal service (even if it is civil instead of military). There are other possibilities, too. Anyone looking to graduate high school should have to do a transcontinental road trip. No flying, no leaping over vast tracts of the country. This country is *vast* and populated with a *lot* of people. Everyone should see it. Take the roundabout route. Put in some non-interstate time. No drive-throughs - dine in local restaurants only. Meet your countrymen and see where they live.

457 453 -- That is a benefit of living just up the road from Office AFB and StratCom -- people from all over. An air force wife from Okinawa taught me how to make fantabulous fried rice. There was the British Wives Club. Guys from allover the country cycled through back when it was SAC. I was told that if a junior officer wanted advancement a tour at SAC was just about mandatory. (A couple of tank guys were #3's cub scout pack leaders. They frequently complained about the lack of forced marches and weekend exercises.)

461 There's a plot trope similar to your example, in which Party With Grievance "A" ends up crossing paths with Much Scarier Party With Grievance "B" and Party A realizes how relatively minor their Grievance was. One example that leaps to mind is when Bruce Willis and Ving Rhame's money dispute accidentally spills over into the basement of Zed's gimp-and-sodomy basement (there are LOTS of other examples, this is just one that I can recall immediately). So maybe instead of Soy Boy and a Maga Hispanic being forced to overcome their differences, perhaps a private plane of rich western Soy Boys (maybe social media B-list celebrities?) heading to some destination music festival end up crash-landing in a small rural town in Saudi Arabia, Iran, or some other country whose culture couldn't be bothered learning their Preferred Pronouns because they are too busy trying to sever their decadent heads.
