10 "Madame, it is a most curious missive. It apologizes for contacting you, but then purports to be written on behalf of some dignitary of an African kingdom of which I am little familiar; it references some unrest which, if it is to be believed, has caused serious financial strains to the party on whose behalf it was written. Most curiously of all it implies we can be of assistance, if we were to provide access to the details of our savings and investments, with the implication of being richly compensated if we lend our cooperation..."

59 Not the most attractive women I've seen in a painting. But Vermeer sure can provide detail. The cloth in their dresses and the table cover, the string of pearls in the woman's hair, even the sheen of the ink bottles almost demand the viewer's attention. The dark background is surprising since there is no obvious source of light. It's like he ran out of money for brilliant paints after doing the lady's bright gown.

Posted by: lowandslow at December 07, 2020 09:43 AM (4thlk)

A theory that has not been definitively proven. You'd think with such a complicated technical set up to do an adjusted camera obscura to be able to get the colors that there would have been more physical and historic evidence. There was a documentary of a guy who tried to recreate Vermeer paintings by building this camera obscura.

He did make even doubters like myself think twice.

283 OT: Positivity rates for COvID antibody tests in Colorado have increased sharply in recent weeks. That's antibody testing, not PCR. After hovering in single digits throughout the summer antibodies are now being detected in greater than 20% of samples.

This evidence of previous infection at those levels is potentially indicative of approaching herd immunity.

Also, detectable levels of antibodies is not the only determinant of an individual's immunity, so the total percentage of likely immune people is probably considerably higher than that 20% level.

(Disclaimer: the state's website does not give any information about the tested population such as demographics or patient selection so projecting this to the general population should be done with caution.)

Posted by: BlackToothGrin at December 07, 2020 10:32 AM (/rdaf)

++++++++

IANAL

I suspect the date was bumped up because the court is going to rule that PA so royally ruined the election that the election is voided and thus they will order the PA state house to appoint electors irrespective of the November vote.

I had previously suspected that they would declare PA ineligible from appointing electors, due to their being "no way to determine who actually won." Obviously, I think it's more than obvious who won, but the court I think will be reticent to render a verdict that more or less directly hands Trump the win (or Biden, for that matter). So as of last night I thought "they will declare PA can't send electors."

But moving the date of their ruling to the morning of the safe harbor day, I think it signals something else. If they were going to nullify their right to send any electors I don't see why Alito would move the date back to before the Safe Harbor day. So instead, they are acting in such a way as to give the state house time to handle things themselves.

Maybe I'm missing something, but that's how I see it.

To be clear, I think the exact reason they bumped the date is because SCOTUS is going to do something against the natural flow of things thus far. If nothing is changed, then PA will go to Biden, and will be "locked-in" on the 8th.

So SOCTUS is going to make a ruling that will affect that on the 8th.

Again, that's how I see it and if so, then it's going to be a Trump legal victory in one capacity or another, it remains to be seen what the exact remedy is.

Steve Gruber from MI reporting on Warroom on results from Bill Bailey lawsuit, unrelated to Trump but Trump team working with him for the review of those 22 voting machines.

Initial reports, no security, thumb drives laying around, anyone in the room has access, unsecure open ports on machines (anyone can just stick in a thumb drive and change the data). They didn't report on any other details.

Now, these $7,500 machines are being forced by the state to be purchased locally. Can't afford it? Just sign this paperwork from this organization that has Zuckerberg funding that will pay for them. Except in the fine print, once you accept them, you cannot locally look under the hood and review the internals of the machine. Don't worry, the vendor Dominion will do all the service.

Seriously, this happened and why the local judge called BS and let Bill Bailey review the machines.

453 Assuming the Dems pull this off, it's gonna be weird watching what happens to their coalition. I mean, they'll still pay lip service to their pet minorities, at least for awhile, since they're useful in the assault on American culture and the middle class.

But they're no longer needed for actual votes.

And when the deleterious effects of the globo-Marxist rule begin to manifest themselves, the welfare people in those groups will be the first to be branded as useless eaters.

It's going to be weird watching the Democrats hack entitlements to the bone while employing anti-poor people rhetoric that would make any Republican blush.

I give it maybe ten years before the economic circumstances begin to force this issue.

Mark Fitchem, state AZ legislator, on Bannon said this morning two things.

The Repub Senate leader, because Rudy was in AZ last week and now said he has Covid, closed the Senate for 7 days.
that's the bad news.

A local AZ political woman, Liz Harris, has organized 500 volunteers, and is asking for 1,000 more, and is going door to door to verify votes cast.
"Is Ramon Martinez here"
"No, he died two years ago"
"Oh, will you sign an affidavit saying that, and let me take your picture?"
"Sure"
They don't have a hard count right this instant, but said there are tens of thousands of such affidavits to be turned in the next few days.
AZ has about 10,500 lead for Biden right now. Every one of those affidavits are an illegal vote.

536 GA fed judge dismisses Powell's case.

I could tell before he ruled he would.

Powell has a great case of fraud.

But the Dems have the high ground.
On the key issue of the case, Dems had specific case law and statutes.
Powell had general arguments.

She may be a great lawyer but she is so focused on the tree of fraud that she's missing the forest of "we don't want to touch this and will find any reason whatsoever to get rid of it."

That is, she's so in love with her case, she is arguing from the assumption that it will be granted, not addressing why they want to deny it.

539 If you had to pay illegals $15/hour, it would end. And I think H1-Bs should be paid a huge premium, too. I wish Congress would pass a foreign labor poison pill and not a welcome mat.

A local hospital thought they'd be cute and tried to hire filipina nurses at about half the rate of American RNs. The union stepped in and said, they become ours at our rates, sorry bitches but you have a contract. So much for that plan, hospital went no further with it's goal.
Posted by: CN at December 07, 2020 10:46 AM (ONvIw)

This could be the next front in the war against Democrats - actually partnering with unions (!) to curtail H1B and illegal immigration. If Trump could detach unions from the Dems, we would get some needed organizational muscle on our side.

There's no reason that a union should be allied with the Democrats at this point. They've pivoted over to tech as their big benefactors.
