Breakthrough: For the First Time In Its History, Newsmax Draws 1 Million+ Viewers in an Hour

Uh-oh.

This happened last week.

Newsmax broke 1 million viewers for the first time ever. 'Greg Kelly Reports' was the happy recipient of what appears to be a wave of Republican viewers changing the channel.

We are talking about a show that could measure its audience in only tens of thousands not too long ago. Now, Greg Kelly is doing half the viewership of Martha MacCallum's show. In fact, 'The Story'cgot bested by Erin Burnett's shown on CNN strongly in the key demo and the overall ratings. In other words, this isn't just about Newsmax catching up. This is about Fox News’ hard news shows clearly losing their audience while other networks gain. Yes, Tucker Carlson is still pulling in 4.5 million a night, but he is hardly indicative of what viewers are angry about at Fox News. Rather, Tucker represents one of their only saving graces with conservative viewers right now. Any attempt at deflection from Fox News by citing Tucker and their prime time hosts, a group that the hard news side apparently sneers at, is just intellectual dishonesty.

Steven Crowder had a podcast recently in which he described his observations about Fox News, when he worked there seven years ago.

He said much of the network is liberal. Obviously. He also said that among the Republicans -- and there aren't as many as you might like -- many are "New York Liberal Republicans" who want lower taxes but absolutely "hate" most of the conservative movement. Which I take to mean actual conservatives. Social conservatives, religious conservatives. Anyone who's not super ga-ga over gay weddings and abortion on demand.

Meanwhile: Rumors that Trump allies are looking to buy Newsmax outright, which would undoubtedly raise its profile still further.

More from Little Brian Stelter. Skip to 4:21 if you just want to see Little Tater.

So good:

Did you see Leland Vitter, there?

Fair and Balanced News Alternative, huh?

Oh, and of course, Howie Kurtz did what he does every Sunday -- attacking Mollie Hemingway and conservatives while supporting leftwing narratives.

He actually demands that Mollie Hemingway answer whether she "accepts the reality."

Also meanwhile:

RedState reported that Fox's ratings had dropped below MSNBC's and CNN's last Saturday.

Fox News PR sent out emails demanding RedState "correct" its report by... writing about ratings from two days later.

Fox demanded they "correct" a report about Saturday the 7ths ratings by... replacing them with the ratings from Monday the 9th and Tuesday the 10th?

ollowing Bonchie's column about the weekend performance, we received an email from the Fox News PR division. They gave us the rating from the past few nights, and then asked that we run a follow-up, "to correct the record.’" This was wrongheaded on two counts.

First, there is nothing to correct, since we had given the figures from Saturday which showed Fox News dropping from its former perch atop the ratings. Providing numbers from days later in no way alters or invalidates the clear shift in the viewers. The second issue is with the press release they provided to supposedly show we were incorrect. In it the copy touts Monday’s glorious ratings, stating how "Tucker Carlson Tonight" Tops all of Cable News. This was itself an accurate boast, but it also shows the misguided mindset going on at the network.

He goes on to note that Tucker Carlson is calling out the Fox "News" division for censoring the news.

So Tucker Carlson's ratings are in part due to Tucker Carlson attacking the Fox News "news" division.

It is true that Fox News, as usual, is lifted by its opinion hosts.

But people are abandoning their habit viewing -- or, Bad Habit Viewing -- of the Fox "news" division's daytime programming, including the onetime flagship Special Report.

Is this the advice they're getting from their crisis communications firm? Kinda-sorta threaten actual conservatives?

By the way, Brad Slager at RedState links this flashback to 2019.

Former House Speaker Paul Ryan thinks his new job as a board member of Fox Corporation will finally allow him to "do something" about President Donald Trump, according to a new report in Vanity Fair.

"Paul is embarrassed about Trump, and now he has the power to do something about it," a Fox executive told Vanity Fair.

16 R.S. McCain had an observation the other day, that even many of the genuine "Republicans" at Fox were a special breed: i.e., Long Island Irish Catholics. Think Bill O'Reilly and all that.

His point was that while they line up on the Right on many fiscal and social issues, they get all dewy-eyed on immigration, given their own roots, and were ultimately unable to embrace Trumpism for that reason. Now of course, Hannity fits into that category as well, so his theory doesn't cover every case, but it's an interesting argument anyway.

20 That Stelter tweet is actually illuminating. A conservative press outfit is growing like gangbusters and his tweet provides a fairly straight report without any invective. And then you see why: they're taking their audience from Fox News and although the latter is still much bigger, the former is potentially doing some damage.

I am sure that Fox has both camps within its walls: traitors and cucks. The traitors don't care that the network will slide to last place. The cucks, though, I hope are now weeping at the betrayal that the crowing of their lefty colleagues in the Media wing of the Complex representes.

Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at November 16, 2020 03:16 PM (hYcqw)

21 FOX made the mistake of thinking they own conservatives the same way Dems are owned by CNN, MSNBC, NPR, and the local media.

They forgot that they were supposed to be the alternative and instead decided to become exactly what their audience ran from in the first place.

We gave up FN ages ago and never believed they were a conservative network, just one that would pretend for a while.

Posted by: Duncanthrax at November 16, 2020 03:25 PM (DMUuz)

85 Here's the thing:

This election is EXACTLY like quantum theory. Not kidding.

Here's how:

Prior to the election, liberals and conservatives lived in alternate realities:

Liberal believed the polls, and "knew" that Biden was going to win in a landslide.

Conservatives mocked the polls and instead believed the national zeitgeist, the rally crowds, the one-sided enthusiasm, and "knew" that Trump was going to win.

So we all thought: One side or the other is going to be gobsmacked by reality on November 3. Either they would be proven wrong and would be shocked, or we would be proven wrong and would be shocked. Because "reality" would happen and either Biden would win or Trump would win.

This is exactly like the "collapsed function" scenario illustrated by Schrodinger's Cat.

A quantum particle/wave exists in a potential state were it could either be this way or that way, but you don't know until you "observe" it. The very act of observing it "collapses the function" and causes the quantum thing to decide what it wants to be, and physically become that.

So: Everyone in the country assumed that Nov. 3 would be the event that "collapsed the function", and that either the liberal fantasy/reality would cease to exist, or our fantasy/reality would cease to exist. EVERYBODY assumed that election would be the end of the uncertainty.

But, incredibly. THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN.

November 3 came and went, The "votes" were cast, and yet even afterward: THE FUNCTION DIDN'T COLLAPSE.

Their side STILL thinks they won. And our side STILL thinks we won.

Even AFTER the election.

We continue to lie in alternate universes. Schrodinger's Cat is still alive-dead.

All of this comes down to and is due to: What is your source of information?

The Left believes the mainstream media: If the MSm says it, it is tru. Period.

Our side believes the opposite: The MSMS is lying and intentionally gaslighting us.

We have our source of informational, which tells us that our reality exists. They have their sources, which tlls them theri reality exists.

I would have thouht this impossible, but it happened.

The universe has split in two, and each side is spinning off in their own direction.

His point was that while they line up on the Right on many fiscal
and social issues, they get all dewy-eyed on immigration, given their
own roots, and were ultimately unable to embrace Trumpism for that
reason. Now of course, Hannity fits into that category as well, so his
theory doesn't cover every case, but it's an interesting argument
anyway.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not Long Island, but NJ and my circle is largely Italian and Irish Catholic and there is truth to this ONLY if we're talking union jobs--including teaching.
No one is dewy-eyed about immigration though. Not anymore.

I think the GOP is going to be in for a shock if they think that people who voted Republican BECAUSE of Trump are going to continue to vote Republican when he's not on the ticket.

127 I'm pretty tired of listening to anyone who claims to represent conservatives at this point. It's all echo chamber bullshit.

That's always been my bitch against talk radio. All they do is tell you what you already know. None of them offer any solutions or do anything about anything. Rush, Hannity, any of them. At least Beck was holding rallies and shit.

But what's the point now? All they do is regurgitate conservative talking points and point out how crazy the left is.

While this was going on, the left organized thousands of groups and got them funded. They marched all over America and attacked everyone. They got politicians elected to push their agenda and now they actually get those politicians to do their bidding.

So as much as I respect Rush for a great career, those guys aren't using their money or power to do anything. Our party isn't really our party. We had a brief glimpse of hope in the tea party and it was promptly destroyed.

So here we sit. Yes, let's listen to newsmax tell us how shitty it is for us.

130 A quibble: there is no such thing as a 'New York liberal Republican'. The last one serving in Congress was Sherwood Boehlert, who retired 14 years ago. He was also the last one elected de novo. Roy Goodman, who was the exemplar of the breed in the state legislature, last stood for election in 2000. The motor of liberal Republicanism was an antagonism to clubhouse politics, crooked union locals, and the Mafia. Prior to about 1965, they weren't in the business of pushing abortion-on-demand and other nefarious items. There problem (and that of the temporizers adjacent to them) was that they could never develop an understanding of political economy that wasn't composed of repurposing or reacting to someone else's conception. What was the liberal Republican counterpart to Brookings or AEI or "The New Republic" or "National Review"? There wasn't one.

There were liberal Republicans who took themselves waaay too seriously (think Earl Warren or Lowell Weicker), but you'd be hard put to find among them the sort of criminal fraud that is modal in the Democratic Party today.

The people you're describing aren't liberals, old or new. They're professional-managerial class careerists who will sell everyone down the river.

GOP Suddenly Drops Election Lawsuits In Four Battleground States Amid Recent Court Failures

GOP plaintiffs moved to dismiss pending lawsuits in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan and Georgia Monday morning that targeted ballots in Democratic counties and attempted to block the states from certifying their election results, marking a noticeable shift in Republicans' post-election legal strategy days after the Trump campaign and GOP suffered a series of failures in court Friday.

Three Wisconsin voters, backed by conservative group True the Vote, voluntarily dismissed a lawsuit that sought to block the state from certifying votes in several Democratic-leaning counties, claiming their votes had been diluted because of alleged voter fraud and "illegal" votes in those counties.

The lawsuit--in which the plaintiffs admitted they did not yet have any concrete evidence of illegal votes and the evidence would be "shortly forthcoming"--was dropped immediately before the case was supposed to be heard in court.

Similar lawsuits in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, in which voters in each state also tried to exclude votes that were cast in certain Democratic-leaning counties, were also dismissed by the plaintiffs Monday morning.

The notices of dismissal did not give a reason behind the plaintiffs' decision, and conservative attorney James Bopp, who is associated with True the Vote and represented the plaintiffs in all four states, told the Associated Press Monday he could not comment on the Wisconsin lawsuit due to attorney-client privilege.

Nothing about Dominion matters unless the Trump team or others can get documented examples of results being altered from actual votes in front of judges. Not the ownership, not any elaborate stories about any of it.

Very boring requirements, but they're all that matter. Demonstrate to a court that outcome of an election may have been altered, that the process was not secure or reliable, to get an injunction against certification.

That's it. That's it. That's all there is that matters. Only other thing that matters would be legislative intervention in a key state.

Meanwhile, the Trump team is laboring to prove lack of security/unreliability/illegality/failure to follow state law/failure to ensure equal protection in actual cases now pending. That's where the action (that matters) is.

Of course it is. The universities are the Left's most powerful and valuable recruitment centers.

It makes me *furious.* I lived like a monk for years, eroding my student loans down until they disappeared. I bought nothing and did nothing fancy for four solid years repaying my lenders who fronted the costs. I *despise* loan forgiveness. There is already a remedy: bankruptcy.* Bankruptcy punishes both the lender and the borrower - the lender because he can't get his money back, and the borrower because he loses all credibility (there's a reason that "credit" and "credible" share a root).

* Of course, that was before Bush 43 broke this by finally and permanently exempting student loan debt from bankruptcy remedies.

227 I have a feeling Newsmax is going to go the Fair and Balanced route. A doctor that says mask up is already flapping his gums there.

I'm okay with a news organization giving various viewpoints to a story. Do a story on shutdowns, have a guy who supports it and a guy who doesn't and let them give their perspectives. That's basic, classic news reporting. I'm fine with that.

My problem with Newsmax is that their website got caught outright just making crap up that hurts Democrats in the past, and while I hope they're not doing that any longer, it bothers me.

OAN charges for their streaming which while I understand why, makes them doomed to always be fourth tier or lower. People just don't want to pay extra for content unless its super content.

No. That was the footnote to my comment. It started getting hard to do this in the 80s, and then Bush 43's bankruptcy reform made it impossible. It was a cataclysmic mistake.

So there's a problem with people getting degrees and then going bankrupt? Okay. Prosecute the borrower for fraud if there's fraud. If there isn't, then maybe get out of the ultra-high-risk lending business?

Maybe, just maybe, student lending is a bad business model? Well maybe it shouldn't exist then. Or maybe it needs a lot more restrictions. The lenders (if any) can figure that out. Making discharge during bankruptcy was the *wrong* solution to that problem.

Look, Biden is a puppet of the DonkE and the DonkE are going to go all in on seeing if they can revive the Obama magic by putting a black female VP on the ticket and bringing in Obama's crew to run the show.

If you throw in massive election fraud, Trump might lose.

That was exactly the problem, and why they eroded bankruptcy protection for a couple of decades until Bush 43 finished it off.

It was still the wrong answer. If this is what is going on, then it's fraud and there's a criminal remedy. If they can't prove it, then lenders needed to ask for collateral or just stop making student loans. It isn't the end of the world if there are no student loans - costs just have to come down until people can afford it.

360 How about I spend Thanksgiving however I want.

That being said, if you ever wanted to get out of a Thanksgiving family get together, Covid gives you a free excuse.
Posted by: SH at November 16, 2020 03:59 PM (sX1BW)

I feel somewhat, but only somewhat, awful because we are doing Thanksgiving with just me and my parents instead of going over to a family friends' house as usual. That is because they are 82 and have other risk factors and there will be 20+ people there, some of whom work in high exposure jobs and I am being paranoid about the 'rents safety.

That's 5% of the reason.

The other 95%, which my parents know and which I admit, is that I really really really do not like going over there. Everyone is sweet and wonderful and it's people I don't know and it's overwhelming and now there will be multiple small humans there and no.

This is the perfect excuse. As I said, I feel somewhat awful about leaping on this with both feet. But only somewhat.

Yes. Bankers will get some of it - there is still a *lot* of student loan paper out there - but most of it is just going to get transferred to the deficit a few years ahead of schedule.

But make no mistake: it *is* a payoff. It's a payoff in exactly the same way that student loan complex is itself a payoff. The payoff goes to the hard-left recruitment and indoctrination centers called "universities." All of the student loan complex - which was so rotten and broke despite decades' worth of jiggery-pokery that it got *nationalized* in order to keep it going - serves to make sure that cash still makes its way to the universities.

The vote machine flipping has been going on a long time.
They ran a lot of test cheating on smaller races before they rolled it out two weeks ago.

There is a video out there showing CNN live in the KY governor's race, where they showed it happening on CNN in real time. The R candidate's votes actually dropped while the D candidate's votes went up by thousands.

IN REAL TIME, BROADCASTING ON CNN.

I couldn't take it anymore. I just said, "Why comply? Don't bother. Do whatever the hell you want. Want your big Thanksgiving? Do it anyway. To hell with them."

It got real quiet. He then just said, "huh." Not a question, not opposition, not surprise. Just a simple statement. I hope I got through to him.

Heh. I get the opposite a lot being a middle aged single guy with no kids. Everyone is shocked that I know how to hold a baby.

One summer, mumblemumble years ago, I was at my neighbors' for a party. Their youngest, about 9 months old, was being really fractious, and getting passed around from aunt, to female friend, and back, all of them failing to get him to settle down. I was off to the side chuckling, and one of them said something like, OK, smart guy, let's see you do it. *hands me the baby* 30 seconds later he was asleep on my shoulder. The one who handed him to me said "How did you do that?! You have no boobs!" I just adopted my best Hans und Franz accent and replied that I rocked him to sleep on my massive pectoral muscles. They still laugh at that little episode.

Hey, what's a few more trillion dollars of national debt anyway? The former United States's currency is a world reserve currency, so we devalue the dollar globally.

Wait until the State budget and long term pension funds get bailed out. You life-long savings? Gone.

But while you work until you drop dead, just remember that your government employees who retired in their fifties with life-long inflation adjusted benefits will be happy.

You want people to be happy don't you?

462 We continue to lie in alternate universes.

But which side is trying to steal free speech, free association, free practice of religion, and firearms?

No, I understand what you are trying to say, but their side is happy, no expected, to be constantly gaslighted with the PROGressive propaganDA infrastructure that has taken over national airwaves. My guess is because of the Trump hatred.
Their side has ignored any modicum of proof when they suck in their gaslighting data.

Our news sources are in spite of, not because of, national news networks.
