Sorry, been out checking a few things.
Biden is now on the precipice. Pennsylvania is in a very bad place for him. He is going into election day with a total vote lead in the entire state of 750K votes. If he does not massively turn out his minority base tomorrow for in person voting tomorrow, he can't win. Trump is going to get a 1.1M vote differential tomorrow with the voters who haven't yet voted. The current minority and youth participation rate he is seeing will lose even more votes. A normal election in-person vote won't cut into that. He has to get a historic same day vote to even get close. Now cue all the "fraudulent vote" sock puppets. Dave, "differential"? You mean Trump will have 1.1M total, or 1.1M *more*, than Joe's ED #s? Leading to a final count, when early votes are included of ...... ?????
Campaign manager today used telegraphic language and also left things not difficult to misinterpret. And Trumpentwatters just had a tweet calling SCOTUS PA voting decision "dangerous". ????? Why tweet this now? Decision was what, more than a week ago? "Something must be done!" Who's going to "do something"??? I'm guessing *not* the PA AG. Presumably just trying to jaw-bone public perception a bit, before the idiocy starts? By spring, she was about the size of a saucer, and as soon as the weather was warm enough, I took her down to the river and sent her on her way. Expected votes tomorrow are modeled off of past voting behavior (sometimes including participation in this year's primary), thus "high propensity" voters - not guaranteed to vote, but very likely to do so.
Voting tomorrow, because they haven't voted already, where that's an option (campaigns can usually track, literally, who has voted, so it's a list built from actual data, not a macro estimate). Texas, especially (national) Texas 32 and (state) Texas State Representative
TLR: - Senator John Cornyn wins narrowly, due mostly to Trump coattails. That and a horrible challenger, MJ Hegar. Conservatives do not like Cornyn. No one likes Hegar. - Republican Genevieve Collins defeats Democrat incumbent Colin Allred and flips the seat back to Republican. I'm somewhat pessimistic about her future, but hope she will be a reliable Republican vote. - Incumbent Texas State Representative Angie Chen Button squeaks out a narrow win over the Democratic challenger. Angie has won handily in the past. North Dallas suburbs are trending blue, as much as I hate to say. Good: - Trump has long coattails - As bad as Senator John Cornyn is, his challenger is much worse and turns people off - Other than a few races, Democrats are trending in Texas Bad: - Texas is trending blue long-term and I cannot pretend otherwise ========= Let's assume that I live in these districts. Angie Chen Button may or may not be a nearby neighbor. Ahem! No conservative likes Senator John Cornyn. Incumbent Colin Allred (D) versus challenger Genevieve Collins (R). Allred is a former linebacker for the Tennessee Titans and flipped the seat in 2018. He's a dud and generates no leftist enthusiasm. Incumbent Angie Chen Button (R) versus challenger Brandy Chambers (D). Despite her first name, Brandy is not a stripper. Purge your filthy minds, you Horde degenerates! ========= The US 32 congressional district includes everything in the Dallas area from Preston Hollow (GW Bush's neighborhood) in the west to parts of Collin County in the east. I live in the east. A new family at the end of our block has Allred and Biden signs. A few of us have signs for Button, Collins, and Trump. Mrs. Texan and I fly a Trump flag. The overwhelming majority of the block is seething with conservatives who want to lay low but are determined Trump supporters. Mrs. Texan and I have a sign for State Rep. Button and a flag for Trump. I've never imagined anything like this election. The few polls show a win for pro-life Republican Genevieve Collins. Lots of signs and commercials. Closer to our hypothetical home, polls show a win for Texas State Rep. Angie Chen Button, who lives a few blocks away. I have supported her since her first run, and upped my donation this year. Dave/FL, you might know the details needed for this, what do you think of my idea that it all could be called by 9PMish tomorrow, if WI and MN go Trump?
* early vote provides much higher % of vote @ poll closing * FL/NC/OH already called for Trump If MN/WI can be called quickly and Trump gets either, game over. And to respond to April - there is no such thing as a "declared winner" in a presidential contest, officially, until the electoral college votes. By tradition and decent common sense, winners are acknowledged by media, losers concede, on election night (for decades), based on known results. But there is no official "declared winner" tomorrow. Thus the idiotic but potentially hilarious statements by Joe's people, Pelosi, et al, about "declaring a winner". Per my scenario above, if the numbers in WI or MN after 9PM Eastern are right, competent analysts will declare Trump to be at 270, that is, the winner. PA, Joe's campaign, Twitter, and everyone else could still then posture about there being no declared winner ..... but the point of that would be difficult to see. Dave in Fla, I've got a question for you. In my state, Virginia, we don't register to vote by political party. I've got an email saying that early voting showed it's possible Trump could squeak out a win here.
So here's my question: how could they know this? The votes aren't tallied before Election Day, right? The only thing I can think of is they are matching names to people that have previously voted in primaries. Could that be it? In other words, are they basing this on the fact that more people who have voted in Republican primaires have already voted as opposed to those who voted in Democrat primaries? bluebell I think the vote tomorrow is for voters modeled by various data indicating past election participation, including primaries. I've seen different models, but they all do pretty well in predicting who will vote.
So, no, they're not actual votes - not yet. By this time tomorrow in some states, most of them should be. I keep thinking, using common sense and looking at the stats from Trump rally ticket applicants, that there may be upside surprise in Trump voter #s tomorrow. First-timers and cross-overs, and above-expected independents breaking his way, all would add to the modeled #, depending on how they do it. Bluebell, it is simply the degree that people vote. Some people vote in every single election, school bond issues, local races, etc., primaries, runoffs, general elections. These are high propensity voters, then you get their approximate party id by what primary they voted in.
In a blue (or a deep red) state, there is some noise because some counties are not competitive for one party or the other so people vote in the primary elections opposite of their preferences at the national level in order to have a say in local government. Nowadays, they probably also buy targeting information from social media companies and Trump has his own datafiles based on rallies, past contacts, etc. Everything from downloaded movies you like, magazine subscriptions, where you shop, etc. are all available to big biz, parties, and gubmint. Just takes money to get it out in usable form. If I had enough information about you, coupled with the voter history file, I suspect that I could predict your party preference pretty accurately with access to the right databases. One night it was crowded and we were sitting at a large table in the back with some other random folks who decided to take a seat. Lots of people were smoking, so my roomate decided to light up a joint and pass it around. Memorable. Another night were were both quite stoned and started a BS Heidegger-like conversation throwing around a lot of philosophy terminology as if we were actually saying something, which we weren't. When we stopped, an old guy from the table next to us leaned over and said, "I really agree with what you guys had to say." He seemed very grateful.
Posted by: bluebell ----------- States without voter identification they still have records of your voting preferences through marketing data. Posted by: Lamont Cranston I've just started rereading The Gulag Archipelago and I rate this comment true. More than 70 percent of the people who were sent to their deaths in the Gulag were guilty of no crime. Both the prisoners and the guards and administrators KNEW from the moment a person fell under the police state's baleful eye that the accused were innocent. Yet somewhere between 20 and 40 million people were murdered by their countrymen. For NOTHING. The Russians are certifiable. But Cheers always befuddled me. It purported to be a sitcom. It was not remotely funny.
Posted by: Catch Thirty-Thr33 yep. Posted by: Adriane the Ursine Major Critic -------------- OK, avoiding work so i wrote this: Oh man, I liked cheers. It struggled at times to keep the groove, but it was one of those shows that advanced the art. First, it was an hour long sitcom. This gave it the opportunity to set up longer arcs and multiple story lines. They (Charles Burrows Charles) really innovated the use of multiple story lines that collided at the end in a funny call-back type scene. (for example, woody playing Moses in a play and showing up in the bar just as Carla is having a crisis and her thinking it is God there to confront her.) Cheers also used the occasional character like the old guy Al who would show up for one funny line every few weeks. ("screaming viking - I haven't been called that since my honeymoon") But mostly cheers developed the seasonal arc that combined sitcom with drama. They could do that because of the hour long format and this was a precursor to the type of drama we saw in such seminal shows as Sopranos or Braking Bad, where arcs are created and nurtured thoughout the the season and even throughout the run. Other sitcoms did this (like, Happy Days, for example) but it was secondary and no one tuned in to care about whether Fonzie got a new apartment or if Pinky Tuscadaro finally turned things around. Their season arcs were always secondary to the cheap joke set ups and only used to create a situation. Cheers used it as a draw and not just one arc but many arcs. Short one episode arcs, but also three or four episode arcs, (The french guy showing up, woody and the girl,...) and full season arcs (Sam and whomever he was trying to bed) and even multi season arcs (sam and Dianne) Posted by: Gentlemen, this is democracy manifest at November 02, 2020 09:19 PM (LWu6U) 512

What Ace wrote in his Bill Stephien post is exactly where I am at tonight:
"I dunno. I'm very nervous/borderline depressed. I guess there's some hope out there, though. The left has made it very clear that if they are given power in this election, we will never have an open election again. The real right will be censored, banned, and fired from their jobs, and they'll make conservatism de facto illegal. I do know we all have to vote, whatever happens! This may be our last stand." I also think that no matter who wins the election, there will be violence & looting in the cities. If they lose, they will be mad. If they win, they will take it as an endorsement of their tactics & will do some "purging" in the cities to celebrate. I will add that I expect if the Democrats win they will try to enact revenge on the Red States & Red Counties of America. If we resist I expect that things could get really ugly, very guickly. However, that will be a 2021 problem. 60 Seconds of Stella Leaf Jumps youtube.com/watch?v=D6S_TMd7Jkw You're invited to the kitty Halloween party! youtube.com/watch?v=iA8gyRbIR6s Posted by: BetaCuck4Life at November 02, 2020 09:27 PM (FBrfY) 567

Posted by: BourbonChicken at November 02, 2020 09:28 PM (LxTcq) True. A local zoo once had a mother tiger give birth and for whatever reason the cubs were placed into a separate enclosure, which looked like a huge aquarium. A few days later a mother bobcat was hit on a road nearby and one of the kittens survived and was taken to the zoo and ended in the container with the tiger cubs. During the 2016 election night, I'll admit I was nervous and anxious. Why? The polls, Trump was a total unknown, and the only positive energy I could feed on were the rallies.
The first boost was Florida (for me Hillary loosing Florida was a BFD); oddly, Trump winning Ohio by 8 didn't surprise me...Obama was utterly disliked (being polite here), and Hillary was about as lovable as a typical ex-wife's MIL. Trump winning Pennsylvania was a pure miracle, and that's when I hit the hay. Now? The vote fraud factor worries me, but I don't have the 2016 jitters...nearly four years of being lied to, gas-lighted, spit on, and watching the MSM shrug at the rioting & chaos has only deepened the cold fury that's been perched on my stomach since the Impeachment. Win or lose, I go to the polls tomorrow at peace with myself and unafraid. If everybody who's tired of being shit on by our 'betters' shows up to vote, Trumps got it covered. There's an election in 2022, and you have to remember a commonality Mr. Trump shares with Mr. Reagan: Both accepted the need to go over and around the media early and often. Both men used different means, but they did so. Mr. Trump's rallies are a way for him to get over and around the media every bit as much as his tweets in the sewer known as Twitter are. All patrols now on 12 hour shifts. 3 mobile field forces, SRT teams ready to deploy anywhere. Will be watching DTLA, WeHo, Beverly Hills, SM. 4m Sheriff says law enforcement has learned from the George Floyd unrest, & LASD will be ready to respond to problems immediately without having to deal with mayors & city councils like municipal police have to. Says LASD will be prepared to support all local police as well. 3m I asked Villanueva what he thinks about seeing so much of the city boarding up. He said: "I think the group of people that is willing to do something stupid like vandalize or loot is not that big of a group, and we're gonna be ready for them and take action immediately." 1m Villanueva says if a worst case scenario arises and resources are running thin, he alone will make decision on National Guard. Last time, Sheriff says he requested them. Mayor Garcetti then said we didn't need them because "This isn't 1992". Hours later, they were called. George is facing reality, "the possible path to victory for Hillary is getting very narrow" Radditz was blubbering "how could this happen" and that was when I knew Trump would win.

Posted by: Ghost Of Ruth Buzzi Ginsberg at November 02, 2020 09:58 PM (97Jmy) Wow! That's a long shot, but if enough of the black vote flips....I would imagine every gun owner in VA is turning out to give the finger to the Dems. Posted by: Donna&&&&&V at November 02, 2020 10:01 PM (HabA/) 802
There's a reckoning coming.
We said it with our votes for Trump in 2016. They didn't listen. The left didn't take us seriously and said fuck off, we will be in charge, we WILL control you. The Republicans didn't take it seriously. They smiled and said oh sure we hear you but, we don't care. We will not accept your tantrum. Be quiet and let us do as our donors please, because you only matter when we need votes. Donald fucking Trump took us seriously. He got to work doing what we said we wanted done. He faced constant roadblocks put in place by the democrats and the Republicans. But he smashed through them like the Koolaid man or went around them like the roadrunner. He brought prosperity back. He brought back our pride in our country and our love of country. He was so unashamedly in love with America that it inspired us and millions of others to be just as blatant. Now the country faces another election, another decision to be made. Will we allow President Trump to finish what he started? Will we let him keep making America great? Will we choose peace, prosperity and the earned respect from the rest of the world? Or will we choose the path of a weaker America? A place where we are ruled instead of lead, where only the ruling class gets ahead and the rest of us get whatever scraps the ruling elites deem we deserve. Many who voted for Hillary Clinton didn't know they were voting for being serfs. They couldn't see that well hidden agenda behind the historical first female president. Since then, many eyes have opened scales fallen away. More Americans, perhaps millions more, truly understand what the democrats really are and what they intend for us. Tomorrow these millions will join us, who have seen all along, to say, in one voice... No, we are Americans and we will be free! Many of you here on this board have despaired that half of the country would gladly see us in chains and even happily wear chains of their own. I believe that tomorrow, we will see that those who crave peace, prosperity, and freedom far far outnumber those who demand chains. The reckoning is coming..... It will be here soon. Witness and marvel. You will never again see a campaign this bad. The only good thing out of this is the permanent end of his campaign manager's career. Look, this is going to be a petty routine voting pattern tomorrow for an incumbent President vs a weak challenger - nothing other than odd and easily refuted media polling data really says differently - its pretty silly if you step back.
The election is going to go how these things always go, an incumbent President wins easily unless the challenger, who is really being tasked to explain why you'd change horses mid-stream, can motivate you to the polls to vote for him. Its never really up to the incumbent to explain himself unless things are going badly for he American populace in general. It was never about the media, or liberal talk show hosts and who they like or dislike...its going to come down to whether Americans want change - this is not a change election unless you are very left wing. Trump wins with 320 Electoral votes or close to that. Posted by: Boswell at November 02, 2020 10:04 PM (w2LAm) 812

710 The youth may not be turning out this year.
Another base assumption of polling models that's about to be proven very, very wrong. Posted by: TheJamesMadison --------- There is no "may" about it. It's been on "the list" for weeks. Youth turnout is below 2004 levels. Posted by: Dave in Fla at November 02, 2020 09:46 PM (5p7BC) It reminds me of a quote from the movie Spy Game. Highly underrated action flick with Robert Redford and Brad Pitt. Anyway Redford is talking to some other spook who's beating around the bush about something and Redford says: "Are we going to dance all night with your hand on my ass or are you going to make your move?" The youth vote has had their hand on the ass of the Democrat Party for decades but they never actually show up to vote. Posted by: Lamont Cranston at November 02, 2020 10:05 PM (LMLqO) 820

Mendelssohn was responsible, too, for was the revival of Bach's music.
Which is great for me, because I like Bach way more than Mendelssohn. Except, that is, for the latter's violin concerto, which ranks up there (imo) with just about anything.
