NBA Finals Ratings Fall 51% From Last Year

Now *that* is interesting. But it would be unlikely (I suspect) that the NBA's decline is responsible for the entire viewership decline (e.g., that the effect is due entirely to the same persons). I wonder if viewership over all is declining.
Boy, I hope so. I'll bet that it is, but that total screen time is up (in other words, people are watching more hours, but spending fewer of those hours with traditional TV).

Look at NBA salaries. Look how far down the rankings you have to go before it drops below $15,000,000 a year. Guys you've never heard of are making $10,000,000 a year. The game play sucks. It's nothing but threes and dunks and zero defense.
And for all that, the fans get treated to the usual athlete "oppression" & "racism" nonsense. From guy's who'll earn more as mediocrities in their profession IN A YEAR than most people could earn in 2 or 3 lifetimes.

I like what Chuck Dixon said about that on his video channel (which if you at all like comics, you should check out); you can always tell which ones are the readers. The ones who pose by a carefully curated shelf never have books that are read or moved around. That's actually fairly significant for a few reasons. First, ratings were only starting to crawl back up from the Kapernick tantrum of a few years back. Now ratings have dropped lower. Yes, the NFL has been SJW whipping boys, but they kept a better lid on things than the NBA. Let's just say they've been more vague in their sloganeering. Finally, the NFL is the king of sports and any large drop is significant. Continuous year-over-year drops will bleed them. Add in that the drops are larger than 10% because the ratings are juiced starting this year.

I think people need to chill out. Mitch has been a judge-confirming machine, arguably the GOAT in that respect. In 4 years Trump has transformed the federal judiciary.

Her parents were rich Stanford Professors. She had a gilded path there, but instead they could barely get her in to some low tier school, where they were able to buy her way through.
I was discussing this here a few nights back, and we really don't want to accept how deeply corrupt so much of our system is, and how people like Harris and Barry and Mooch have been part of that corruption for their entire lives, since they were young teens.
It is very safe to say that all three of them went to Colleges where other people were paid to do their course work, and professors were paid to give them a good grade even if they never showed up, and the School was paid (through back door "contributions) to graduate them with honor, and then they did the exact same thing with all of their respective Law Schools. And then when it came time to take the Bar Exam, the people who RUN the Bar Exam were paid to let someone clever take the Bar Exam in their places, so that all the paperwork would look good. And then they were "hired" by the people, firms, and agencies who had been grooming them as Avatars who would do whatever they were told to do from the time they were young.
And I have no doubts at all about that - I think it's actually quite common these days. These people are our modern Royalty, they are raised to play a role, and they can do no wrong, no matter how stupid and venal they may be.

They made a fatal mistake of acting as if business was as usual 20 years ago.
There are too many other entertainment options out there, oceans of them. We're overwhelmed with entertainment and only limited time.
And like imbeciles, they cling to old broadcast models. The MLB playoffs are only on regular TV, old "use an antenna" channels.
More and more people every year cut the cable. I am guessing that more than half houses are streaming as well as cable, and the number of exclusively streaming gets higher every year.

I was discussing this here a few nights back, and we really don't want to accept how deeply corrupt so much of our system is, and how people like Harris and Barry and Mooch have been part of that corruption for their entire lives, since they were young teens.
It is very safe to say that all three of them went to Colleges where other people were paid to do their course work, and professors were paid to give them a good grade even if they never showed up, and the School was paid (through back door "contributions) to graduate them with honor, and then they did the exact same thing with all of their respective Law Schools. And then when it came time to take the Bar Exam, the people who RUN the Bar Exam were paid to let someone clever take the Bar Exam in their places, so that all the paperwork would look good. And then they were "hired" by the people, firms, and agencies who had been grooming them as Avatars who would do whatever they were told to do from the time they were young.
And I have no doubts at all about that - I think it's actually quite common these days. These people are our modern Royalty, they are raised to play a role, and they can do no wrong, no matter how stupid and venal they may be.

I miss watching the teams I have rooted in for years. Hometown Bengals, Saints and Chargers. But fuck em all. Oh, I missed the Jaguars. Talk about a similar exercise in futility. It was obligatory while I lived in NE FL, but I grew to enjoy it. The hope getting dashed and obliterated over and over and over.
But did I affect the ratings? Gotta rethink that. It is on that tv anyway.

TaiPan is also good. Lots of drama. Ending is a bit abrupt but it's a great view of the great merchant princes of the early 19th century.

I haven't seen a frame of The Winds of War since 1983, and not one of War and Remembrance since May 1989, but from what I understand the casting was rather poor in regards to the characters. Still, the effort put into them was mind-blowing, especially by today's standards. (Network TV would not attempt something like that today.)

I haven't read the other two but the books of Great Escape and Bridge Over River Kwai were great. Better than the movies, although I really liked both of them.

I remember being traumatized by the wiping scenes from the movie. I thought "How could anyone think that was an acceptable form of punishment? No one else was ever punished like that!"
Then, when I was older I read about how British sailors were punished at that time, how Australian prisoners were punished (much worse, especially the Irish). That's when I began realizing how important context is to history and noticing how the left intentionally leaves that content out of it's retelling of history.

I have enjoyed Rush for decades. Almost never missed an hour. But when he devoted the first 2-3 years of DJT presidency to trying to debunk the russia hoax...it was hard to listen, and I mostly stopped. We all knew it was fake from before DJT was inaugurated. Rush still says, in fact during DJT interview last week, said, that Rs did not go along with DJT because they believed the russia hoax. Rush is rarely wrong, but they all knew it was fake. It has made me very cynical, and worried about the future.

When I saw the bits and pieces of it that I did, it was in a living room I would not go back to for another five years. By the time I got back to that living room, I would know and understand that, yeah, that was kind of a big war and a fairly major event.

My dad did grumble a bit in parts of it, but exponentially less than he did when we watched movies about Vietnam. The only one he remotely related to was The Green Berets with John Wayne.
I saw that our media sided with communism way back then. Missed it when watching Roots. I took it simple and came away from it simple, anti slavery and anti mistreatment of people period.
