Radical Kansas City BLM Lawyer Makes Mostly Peaceful Threats Against the Lives of Cops' Children
There were entire sentences which did not contain threats against cops' children. The sentences that did contain such threats to murder children only constituted a tiny fraction of her rant. Also, those sentences were actually said by a Right Wing White Supremacist Agitator, who ventriloquized the words into the mouth of a black Marxist radical.Radical lawyer and civil rights activist is under fire after threatening Kansas City police and their families in an speech addressing alleged police brutality last week. "You don’t think that we know where y'all live? You don’t think we don't know where your children go to school?!" the attorney fumed in angry rant that was captured on video. Stacy Shaw is the attorney for a pregnant black woman who was arrested at a KC gas station late last month. For the past 10 days, Shaw has been leading an "occupation" of City Hall in Kansas City, Missouri to protest the arrest. "We are not being kind with you anymore," said Shaw. "We have been courteous. We have been respectful, but we aren't doing that anymore," she warned. Shaw said she is seeking to have the licenses of the peace officers involved in the arrest revoked, and then threatened to use her allies in the education system to turn their children against them. "We are going to start showing things with your children's teachers," the attorney said. “You don’t think that we have extensive researchers? You don't think that we know where y'all live? You don’t think we don’t know where your children go to school?!” she bellowed through a bullhorn. "Who the f--ck do you think we are?!"

Well, trespassing. Apparently there were a group of folks milling around and releasing balloons and the store owner called the cops when they refused to leave because they were interfering with business. From the article:
When officers attempted to arrest a man who was interfering with their investigation, members of the now unruly mob moved in to stop them from making the arrest, allowing the man to run away. The man, however, tripped as officers approached him, according to police.
"At that time, a woman (Stallings) and man tried to pull the suspect away from officers," the statement said, stressing that officers gave them "several verbal warnings to leave."
So if this is all correct, a group of folks were trespassing and generally getting in the way of a business, so the business owner called the cops to clear them out when they refused to leave. Things got belligerent and this lady ended up arrested for wading in to things and trying to pull a suspect away from the cops.
This - a pregnant woman willingly getting involved in a police altercation - is absolutely a crystal-clear justification for a weeks-long protest and a letter that threatens people and their families. Completely justified, guys. Totally normal and reasonable.
These people are freaking insane.

Not to attack you, Jane, but can someone explain to me why cash bail is a good thing that should be in widespread use?
Bail is supposed to offer some assurances that someone will show up to court, after they've been arrested but before they've been convicted of anything, right? It's supposed to be used if the person is a flight risk. Like "maybe if we hold $25,000 of this guys money, and will only give it back to him if he shows up for court, he won't flee the state."
And if the guy is deemed to be an inordinate threat to the community, then the prosecutor could argue for, and the judge can and could order that the person should be held without bail.
So why should we be encouraging cash bails that usually end up with someone spending 10% of the bail fee (which is obviously not refundable) on a bail bondsman, who then posts the entire bail?
It just seems like an unfair tax on people without a lot of money.
And it seems especially unfair when we're dealing with a criminal justice system that moves very slowly. So someone can get arrested for a pretty minor crime (simple assault or possession of drugs or whatever), not be able to make bail, and spend a few months sitting in jail waiting for his court date, only to get to court, plea out to something even more minor, and end up having to do community service.
But in the meantime, he's been in jail for several weeks or months, lost his job, been evicted from his apartment, had his car repossessed, has had his credit score destroyed from missing payments on things, etc.

That having been said, second, the cash bail system shifts judgment on the likelihood of the accused to show up for trial to a bail bondsman, who is not susceptible to public pressure. He is anonymous, not subject to petitions, demonstrations, intimidation, etc. He makes his judgment based on experience, and has skin in the game.
Third, most of the people who are arrested do not have a lot of money. Or intelligence. Or skills. Or roots in the community.
Fourth, the alternative to cash bail is just to keep all arrested people in jail until trial.

That's a bit different, in that the immigrants give fake names and disappear, and no one goes looking for them.
The immigration "courts" work outside our criminal justice system and is a totally different issue.
Someone caught sneaking in to our country illegally should not be offered any kind of bail, since they don't have any ties to the community, and it's unknown who they are -- they could give any name. They should be held until their hearings, then released back to whatever country they come from.

As for PA, the state is trending more Republican. In voter registration, Republicans have gained around 150k, while Democrats have lost around 50k. Net advantage of 200k for us. This doesn't mean that individual counties won't go blue, but overall, the state is trending red.

Well, first off, if I get arrested for a DUI or whatever, I have the money to post the full bail and be out in the morning. So it doesn't actually cost me anything. I don't have to pay $1500 to a bail bondsman.
Second off, I don't know what jurisdiction you're speaking of, but in the one I worked in, somewhere approaching 100% of the criminals were residents of the county in which they were arrested or the one just south of us. Easy to find.
Third off, if they didn't show up (which happened, but wasn't the norm), the clerk would first try to call them on the whatever phone number they gave to the cops, and if they didn't hear back in a day, the judge would put out a bench warrant and they'd be picked up sooner or later by the local cops.
Anyone making a habit of not showing up would be denied bail on their next charge.
The flip side was that I had suspects sitting in county jail for weeks, or sometimes months, waiting for their court date, when everyone involved knew that the most jail time they were facing was less than a month, and they likely were not going to serve any jail time at all.
Which seems pretty fucked up.
Not to mention how expensive it is for not just the county to keep people in jail, but for the broader economy to basically fuck people out of their jobs / apartments / cars / etc. over what were mostly (what I called) "asshole crimes."

Look at the RCP graphs back then. They all hockey sticked up in favor of Trump literally 2 days before the election, so they were off by a few percentage points or close to margin of error. Had they stayed the same as a week earlier they'd been off 15 points or more.

You can pick and choose polls from the summer and fall of 2016 that showed a close race, but the average was really heavily against Trump.
And that's what poll trolls do: they either rely on the final average or pick and choose.
I remember one poll troll a few months ago got cocky and pasted a series of polls months out from 2016's election as evidence that the polls were accurate, but the numbers were literally all over the place from Trump up by 5 to Hillary up by 15.

Basically, the GOP is becoming the middle and working class party while the Dems are becoming the party of the upper income/rich + poor.
Trends have indicated that high SES voters are increasingly favoring Dems but working class and middle are not.
The politics of identity, cancel culture, etc. are all of the upper class because they can afford such trivialities--the middle and working class (and the poor) not so much.
Those of you in professional work settings with high SES co workers are noting that your workplace is turning blue. If you worked in a factory on the floor, even with a diverse workforce, and your job competes with Chinese slave labor, you might have a different attitude regarding PDT from your co-workers.
Upper SES folks tend to have larger networks of similar SES situated individuals but working and middle class have less due to economic pressures.
But, the working class and middle are larger numerically than the poor plus the upper class so turnout is the name of the game and as a practical matter, policies that favor the middle and lower classes should be pursued by the GOP if they want to win.

One of his points is how Trump often didn't supply the capital, on his way to being a billionaire. But "Capitalism" is Marx's invented word for Free economies. D'Suza's point was about how ill-fitting Marx's term "Capitalism" is today.
But I was thinking that a shorter way to phrase D'Suza's point is that Marx's term of "Capitalism" is something that should have never have survived the creation of the phrase "Intellectual Capital". Because "Intelllectual Capital" is not simply the owning of raw materials, but is indicative of the labor involved to create and store Intellectual Capital.
So, I'm still advocating that we not advance Marx's made-up name for economics he didn't really understand and I advocate the word "Free".

Most / many of mine did have jobs. Not like great jobs, but they survived. And yes, we did call them "frequent fliers" or "repeat customers."
But these are people who are on the fringes of society to begin with. So would I, as a libertarianish conservative, rather these people, many of whom were semi-functional alcohol or drug addicts, work somewhat menial jobs, and at least support themselves and their habits and hopefully turn their lives around, OR would I rather them just resign themselves to a life of living off the government?
Like I'm not talking about crack criminal minds here, I'm talking about people getting picked up for possession of opiates, or driving with a suspended license, or simple assault, or just ... you know, the "asshole crimes."
Yes, it should be illegal to engage in that kind of asshole behavior. But it shouldn't fuck someone over to the point where it makes the situation worse for everyone involved, right?

Most people are see are pretty half assed with the masks. Grudgingly putting on wrinkled up old surgical masks or whatever as they walk in to the store.
but I've also seen some people wearing n95 masks with face shields, and latex gloves.
Which I haven't seen in months.

I got two without loans. In 1971, a year's tuition at U of Illinois was $600. The second degree cost a lot more, but I worked as a consultant during those two years, so that paid for it.

Basically, he used it as an advertising gimmick to set up 538 to make money. Sabato did something similar earlier with his Crystal Ball newsletter, and so on. Right now, election prediction business is mainly tailored at selling their product to businesses, campaign donors, and media.
The real professionals don't talk about it unless they release an internal poll out of desperation. Internal polling doesn't focus so much on winning per se but rather what messages would drive winning turnout and what is working/not working in campaign messaging initially. Later, the messaging is set more or less and the internal polling shifts to where to put resources--e.g. where do we send the candidate and where to allocate manpower and ad buys within a state to win it. Some use them to impress donors if they appear to be losing in the media polls.

Trump is hitting the states that make sense for a candidate trying to seal the deal: FL, MN, MI, PA, NV, AZ. Four of those are swing states, one is a 2016 blue state, one is a 2016 red state.
Biden is basically living in Pennsylvania, and making occasional stops to AZ, NV, MI, and MN. One 2016 red state, two 2016 blue states, and one swing.

Seems the "pregnant victim" was physically interfering with an arrest at the time, hence arrested.
The brief (out of context) video of her actual arrest shows an officer, quite gently in fact, putting one knee (without putting all his weight on her) to restrain her while putting on cuffs.
Unless he's supposed to grow a third hand or not touch a suspect resisting arrest I'm not sure what else he was supposed to do.
