All that satin makes the approach problematic. You need to stick the landing just so or you skid off. Gear down, full flaps, nose up, flirt with the stall, you need very low landing speed.

I think this is a very effective portrait. I love the way all the colors swirl and combine subtly in the wall paper and especially her clothing. The colors also compliment the model's skin tones, which are delicate but like an adult's, not a child's. Also, the swirl of color and brush work makes her face and arms stand out as firm, not ephemeral. He is portraying a young woman, very feminine, but with substance. (Based on some of his other paintings, Dicksee really knows how to portray a young woman's skin tones and texture.)
Obviously, I really like this painting. Also, check for some of Dicksee's mythic and medieval theme paintings. They are outstanding as stand alone art or illustrations. Its been going on for some time. My money's on it becoming teh Angry Black Man's Party forever. So Bernie loses as well as Schumer loses. This is not how they planned it. ------------ More accurately, the country's 2-party coalitions are splitting apart. Primarily because for a long time (since WWII) they have been pretty close. But that alignment is coming to an end the way most political alignments come to an end - very messy. It turns out the GOP alignment is currently more aligned in terms of culture and ideas. The Dem alignment is based on cultures colliding. Long-term, that is a tough way to keep things together. Idea alignments are easier to maintain than identity alignments. Going back to the Gallup link JJ posted this morning about people feeling they are better off than they were 4 years ago.
I remember back in 1984 I was at a backyard BBQ and we were all talking about the upcoming election. Someone asked if people would vote for Reagan again. A young guy pointed out all the 2 year old kids that were running around in the yard and said, "There is your answer right there. People don't have kids if they don't feel secure" That episode has stuck with me forever. Every re-election the "are you better off" metric has been the biggest barometer. Bush 1 lost because of it, Clinton won because of it. Bush 2 and Obama were vulnerable (but won) because they were weak on the metric. If Trump has the largest positive result Gallup has ever measured on this, then Trump is going to win. Posted by: Dave in Fla at October 09, 2020 10:20 AM (5p7BC) 239

Pelosi announcing an intent to form a 25th Amendment POTUS incapacity commission gives her media pals cover to barrage Trump forever with questions asking if he's crazy, asking how we can know if he's sane if he doesn't immediately submit to an independent medical exam, and on and on. Also gives cover for XiNN and MSLSD to have non-stop panels of Dem-contributing doctors telling viewers that Trump is clearly crazy. Posted by: Gref at October 09, 2020 10:28 AM (AMIL/) 295

I slept very little last night. I think the possibility of Trump losing struck me very hard yesterday for the first time.
I'm afraid of massive fraud, yes, but also of the sheer force of the propaganda machine. Suddenly, I'm seeing a ton of Biden signs popping up, even in my conservative-leaning 'burb. One one hand, it makes no sense whatsoever. Did a significant number of Trump voters switch sides? Are people so weary of the Dem screaming that, like exhausted parents with an angry toddler, they're willing to appease the brats in order to have peace? Or are they so beaten down and cowed by the Wuhan flu and lockdowns they can't think straight anymore? I just don't know. Americans have always been an optimistic people and Trump is the candidate of hope and optimism. As I said yesterday, the Dems are driven by hatred of Trump, not love of Biden. And hatred is a very strong motivator. That's why the pathetic numbers who turn out for Biden rallies as compared to Trump rallies might not mean anything. Their hateful votes will count as much as ours. I used to have faith in the basic common sense of Americans - until Obama was elected. And since the Wuflu panic began, I have seen Americans react in ways I wouldn't have thought possible. I never thought they would have put up with lockdowns and trashing the economy the way they have. I wouldn't have thought the Dems could bully and cow people into submission - but it looks like they're getting away with it. I desperately hope I am wrong. I am so afraid I'm not. 291 Everyone keeps missing the heart of why this presser by Pelosi is a complete fraud, nothing but a massive troll by her to generate a one day headline.
the Senate is going to continue meeting in October to handle appointments. But Nancy's House adjourns tonight, and everyone goes home until the week before Thanksgiving. Some years ago I bought a Remington 100 round "Value Pack" of 12 ga. ammunition. I don't even have a shotgun. I figured it would be useful if the Burning Times ever arrived, on the thought that a shotgun would be easier to find than the ammunition. It isn't slug though, it is #8 shot, which I think is ordinarily used for clay targets apparently. Probably not ideal for home defense. But, I'll not volunteer to stand in front of it.

I desperately hope I am wrong. I am so afraid I'm not. Posted by: Donna&&&&&&&V at October 09, 2020 10:30 AM (HabA/) We're all facing this fear at different times - I've had time to get used to it, since I started feeling this in June and July when the WuFlu spiked again, and everyone went into a panic. I also know many formerly conservative men and women who have become totally convinced that Trump will kill us with the WuFlu - because all they watch is the MSM. but that doesn't mean it's lost - but I was rewatching Lord of the Rings again, and Now We Come to it - The Great Battle of Our Times. It truly is a battle of Good against Evil, and we won't know how it turns out until it's over, and Yes, we might lose. But we might win, too. Data and numbers and articles will not help us now - only Faith, and the choice to have Faith that what will happen will be what we, as a country, choose to have happen to us. And we will well and truly deserve, as a people, whatever we get. All nations fall, sooner or later. I sincerely hope now is not our time, I pray now is not our time. But if it is, then it is. You know they are dishonest and rooting against Trump, so why trust their results at all? 2. Had a Biden bot post an NPR article about NEJM anti-Trump op-ed (a first, just like Scientific American) So, is shedding the mask of neutrality/credibility something someone who was winning would do? Or, is it more akin to the southern military academies that attacked battle-hardened Union troops with children cadets? In other words, the desperate flail of a soon-to-be loser?

I live in Maskachusetts, of course, so Trump hate is off the charts here. And I have seen a ton of Stinkfinger signs pop up in the last 2 weeks. I really do think, and have said for a while, that more Americans than we think are beaten down by the riots, the screaming and the Trump hate, and believe throwing him out of office will lead to calm times. And the fact that Teh Donald caught Kung Flu and bounced back from it within days? Doesn't matter to them. The MFM tells them it's the plague, Hillary's felcher Fauci tells them it's the plague, Cozy Uncle Joe wears a mask, and so "the plague" it is. And I haven't even mentioned vote fraud, media gaslighting and Deep State treason. I still remain convinced Trump will lose. I said the Dems strategy of holding America hostage would work, and I continue to believe that. YMMV. Posted by: Mary Poppins' Practically Perfect Piercing at October 09, 2020 10:41 AM (2JVJo) 374

Posted by: Ha at October 09, 2020 10:24 AM (NSFCQ) Where are you getting this info? ---------- Florida board of election publishes daily stats. There are 1.8M Dem and 1.3M GOP absentee requests. As of yesterday about 1/3 of the Dem ballots have been returned and 1/4 of the GOP ballots. That 1.8M is a hard cap by the way, in FL you must request a ballot, you can't just send one in. Any ballot returned that wasn't requested is discarded. What is also not known is who was voted for. So there is no way to know if a Dem voted for Biden or Trump. Finally, all absentee ballots must be received by election day and are counted on election day. Personally, I think 1.8M for the Dems is low. They will really need to pick up the pace in the early voting period. Posted by: Dave in Fla at October 09, 2020 10:42 AM (5p7BC) 386

414 408 I'd like to know more about this Trump +3 in MN.
That's the Democracy Institute poll. Came out either last week or earlier this week, can't recall. Had Trump basically sweeping the battlegrounds, winning on all favorable points, except maybe Covid, etc. It had very detailed breakdowns of the metrics used and questions asked, etc. Good poll, especially if you're looking for a poll that will let you sleep at night. RE: Barr/Durham not bringing any charges before election.
What "The Plan" types never really have ever been credibly able to explain is exactly what charges will result in a "Perp Walk" or a "Hanging" for Obama era pols and/or IC members. There's not going to be "treason" charge for using a bad excuse to get a FISA warrant. Brennan is not going to get wrung up a "sedition" charge for being prog a-hole. So, just because you don't like Comey, McCabe, etc. doesn't mean they've done anything illegal. Stupid decisions, biased actions, even politicized decisions aren't always illegal. The only hope for any sort of charges for these guys is something like 1001 charges, false documents, something like that. And that doesn't take years to make stick, and if it does it won't. Maybe Carter Page can get a civil suit out this, but there's not going be Swat raids on "the coup plotters." Stop asking for it, stop waiting for. Start asking for all the documents to released unredacted so we can know for sure what was done. And start asking for the FBI/CIA to be reformed/abolished so nothing like it can happen again. Posted by: TheJamesMadison, twirling and whispering meaningfully at October 09, 2020 10:54 AM (NWM+b) It's not when you consider that: Polls do not sample public opinion. Polls shape public opinion. I never, ever trust polls for that reason. I watch what the campaigns do, not what they say, because they use 'internal' polling that gives them what is really happening. The media polls are like bombing missions, whose job is to soften up the enemy. In this case, the enemy is us. Posted by: Darrell Harris at October 09, 2020 10:59 AM (6xA3t) 516

Folks, not to be crude, prayers are fine, but the Lord helps those who help themselves. Seek and go forth to gather votes for the Orange One and get them to the polls or to send off that absentee ballot request with then a check as to whether or not they sent in the absentee ballot.
Drive people to the polls, etc. The vote you gather just might be the winning one for your candidates. In addition, if able to do so, volunteer to be a poll watcher, contact voters, or election judge. At the very least, send some bucks directly to some long shot candidates such as Gade running against deep state toady Warner in the VA Senate Race or a competitive House race. It is irrelevant to what Barr or Durham does or does not do at this point. Ditto for court rulings about election stealing attempts. It is also irrelevant whether or not the news media or the polls are "fair" or "correct". Unless you are a pollwatcher or election judge, it is irrelevant whether or not there will be fraud. Likewise, the Covid edicts from gormless governors do not matter at this point. The game is afoot. What is relevant is to vote and get votes out (even in deep red and blue states) for the Golden Scalp Weasel and downballot candidates. If he wins the popular vote, it will depress the inevitable riots and the life you save just might be your own or your loved ones. We have a little more than three weeks until D-Day. Because it feels like OH is in the bag as well.
It feels that way here in central Ohio. Lots and lots of Trump signs outside of the big cities; they had the Amish buggy parade a while back, and here, there are even custom signs. In our neighborhood, there is a huge "God Bless President Trump" sign that just appeared, and some businesses either have Trump signs or their LED signs read "TRUMP 2020. " MINIMAL Biden signs. I'd say 15 to one ratio outside of the cities. Posted by: shibumi, head cat wrangler on the Pussykat Planet at October 09, 2020 11:16 AM (ZCiJZ) 615
I've railed at length about all the different problems with polling, but it's really more holistic than that. Think about really any arena of policy - progress in our wars, the "science" of climate change, the "science" of the Chinavirus, the "data" on poverty, the "data" on police brutality, and on and on. The people responsible for collecting and analyzing data are all proven liars. The media responsible for reporting are all proven liars. The politicians and bureaucrats responsible for implementing those lies as policies make the aforementioned look honest by comparison. Our society is an edifice of bullshit. For the average person on the outside of the ruling class, the truth is like Schrodinger's cat, and the box itself is in a hall of mirrors. We have absolutely no way to know what is real. So what will be will be, and there is no ability to discern what that will be from what we hear and see. Just keep on trucking and hope for the best - following the polls, or really any news, is a complete waste of time. Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at October 09, 2020 11:17 AM (eXmcp) 616

Posted by: BurtTC at October 09, 2020 11:03 AM (hku12) I know they're lying and trying to demoralize us. I'll certainly vote, nothing will keep me from the polls. Like I said, it makes no sense. People SHOULD be able to look at the riots, see that they're in Dem cities and conclude that the Dems are responsible for bad governing. You'd think people in LA and San Fran would look at all the tent cities and shit on the streets and draw the logical conclusions - but many of them don't. It's Orange Man's fault somehow. Biden can blame Trump for the Wuhan flu and then turn around and blame him for the job loss that lockdowns have caused and the Dems I know don't blink an eye. Relatives of mine will go on about "white privilege" and I say "WTF? What did our family ever do to blacks? Our ancestors were poor and came here after the Civil War. Who did they oppress?" And all they can come up with is Uncle Ray said something racist at the dinner table back in 1968, so we have to pay for that. It's utterly absurd. Geez, look at Californians getting ready to pass a bill on reparations. California wasn't a slave state, most white Californians aren't descended from slave owners (and even if they were, shouldn't be responsible for what their ancestors did) and yet, yay, let's do this because it will make us feel good about ourselves - until the next demand. People have been hit with such a barrage of lies for so long they can't think straight anymore. 488 Was it like this here in 2016?. As I recall, it was Gloom over the coming Hillary Triumph.
2016 was really bad. In the beginning, there was lots of hate directed at Trump, and lots of... let's just say disagreements. I even stopped posting during the week, and only participated on the pet thread on Saturday. ---------- There was a lot of gloom and doom in '16, since the Hildabeast was insisting on Her Turn, and the Republicans had the same old crowd of good intentioned losers up to bat. I was determined to go down fighting and Anybody But Clinton was the order of the day. But three things turned it around. 1. Trump surprised us all. He took what seemed to be a vanity project and personal statement and turned it into a real campaign. He crushed his primary opposition and turned the moribund convention into a massive positive energy rally. then he got out there and ran like he meant it. Suddenly there was hope. 2. CPT. Charles pointed out to me many cases where the Lamestream Media was actively running against Trump on behalf of Clinton, and obscuring the real race on the ground. Trump was packing venues in battleground states and states where he was behind. Suddenly the +10% Clinton lead looked hollow, and there was hope. 3. In the end, Hillary Clinton was Hillary Clinton. The woman had no charisma, a tin ear, and was dependent on the schemes of her backers, who were out of touch with the battleground states. Suddenly, there was hope. And then Trump got elected, and did his best to follow through on his campaign promises as POTUS in the face of the stiffest opposition this side of Lincoln. He has pledged to do so again in his second term. The Democrats' media mask has been destroyed with a single taunt of "fake news". The Democrats are again trying to run a has-been senior citizen with health issues against a man who couldn't get benched by Wuhan Flu. There is hope again.
