Alex the Chick: The NYT Claim that Trump Paid $750 in Taxes is a Straight-Up Lie. By Their Own Reporting, He Paid $1,000,000 in 2016 and $4,200,000 in 2017.

Read her thread here.

Screenshot (44).png

Screenshot (42).png

In addition, Alex the Chick found something even more worrisome than the New York Times' usual Stalinesque prevarication, or the Stasi-like illegal invasion of Trump's privacy.

Even if you think the reporters of the Times should not be arrested as coconspirators for illegally obtaining Trump's confidential IRS filings, what right do the New York Times reporters have to pour through the compensation of Trump's employees?

Because that's what they did: They illegally obtained confidential records of employee compensation, too.

Screenshot (43).png

Also, via Tami:

@JamesGRickards

I have a graduate law degree in taxation, was tax counsel to world's largest bank. So, maybe I know more about taxes than the NYTimes. In real estate, gains are deferred until you sell the building. Expenses are current, (depreciation, interest, fees). So, tax losses are normal.

https://tinyurl.com/y5eyhqho

Plus: the epidemic known as Twitter-Related Instant Expertise Syndrome (TRIES) has an incubation period that is now measured in mere minutes:

@MZHemingway

Honestly just feel blessed to follow so many journalists on Twitter who are tax and loan experts. Didn't realize that they had this particular expertise before tonight as I'd never heard them discuss a word of it before, which makes it all the more impressive.

There are three problems with this:

1) The thrill of power means they chase sicker and sicker thrills. After child rape comes sacrificing the children, then comes devouring them.
2) It breeds tremendous hatred- not just against the satanic elites, but anyone who shares their occupation, ideology- or ethnicity.
3) It destroys the very foundations of the republic, forcing a far harsher goverment to be established to prevent further criminality. A Christian theocracy would put pedophiles to death, all right- along with quite a few others.

It is so irrelevant it is laughable.
Cities are being burned down, police are being physically attacked and shot at, the nation has been shut in their homes for 6 mos with many states refusing to let them get on with their lives, and Joe Biden is clearly unwell while Harris is MIA -- and this spud thinks we need to discuss Trump's taxes???

152 So...

The 1040 tax extension. I understand that. *What* you owe/will owe doesn't change, but you just don't have to file/do the actual 1040 paper work.

But...if you think that when you do, you will find that you owe tax...you will also owe interest on that tax, unless you made a payment. So it probably behooves you to make an estimated payment to cover that.

Then the NYT says that he had potential income tax income of 24 million and 56 million from various sources in 2016 and 2017.

But then the NYT says the actual tax liability was washed away. So how? I don't think it says. Business expense deductions? I don't think it says.

So then it says he just rolled those payments forward to cover anticipated future tax liabilities.

So...I guess you *could* say he sent checks to the Treasury...but he didn't actually *pay* taxes on those years...he just put money up for potential future payments.

Whatever.

The NYT can go to hell.

I'm pretty sure they could have written a better article.

They just chose not to.

154 Another 'Trump is Just Plain Bad' bit of "journalism" with no context. Let's say President Trump did pay $750 in tax in 2016, with no prior year over-payments included.

Maybe that's MORE than than the income tax paid in 2016 by every other real estate guy and gal based in NYC. It's one point on a graph. Not very informative or useful in this case...unless you're an anti-Trumper.

Posted by: Gref at September 28, 2020 02:30 PM (AMIL/)

155 When this all stated most Trump supporters assumed that the left knew full well that Trump's trades were fine, they just wanted to mock him for not being as rich as he said he was. They denied it over and over.

Then yesterday all we saw from lefty Twitter was "Lol, that moron Trump is just a poor nobody, the idiot only has $5.5 Billion dollars not $6 Billion, what a loser!" as they slurped ramen from an old boot they've been using as a bowl.

Posted by: Rbastid at September 28, 2020 02:30 PM (axhr1)

156 Now here's what I don't get: does anyone seriously think that Trump does his own taxes, or even reads his tax return? Hell, even I don't do that. I just sign the return my accountant prepared and send in a check. That's it.
