1/2 cup beef broth -- 130 grams
3 tablespoons paprika
1 1/2 teaspoons salt

2 cups onions -- 3 large onions original ( large = 524 grams)
2 cloves garlic -- finely chopped - 1/4 teaspoon powder
2 pounds round roast, trimmed -- cut 3/4" cubes
14 1/2 fluid ounces tomato -- 1 can
1/4 cup cold water
2 tablespoons flour, all-purpose
784 grams noodles -- 56 gram dry per serving
For slow cooker brown beef in skillet before placing in cooker.
Add all to pot except water, flour, and noodles.
Cook app 1.5 hours on simmer in dutch over, 8 - 9 hours in slow cooker.
Better to use less onion, original recipe calls for 3 large.
add 1/4 cup water and flour 20 - 30 min before done and turn up heat to high.
cook noodles separate

Still dark and (relatively) cool here. Yesterday I didn't get the chance really to wash the car: a rinse and toweling is not enough, not when the beast hasn't had a real bath in 2 weeks thanks to rain. And dust sticks to the paint surface thanks to the gummy air.
No, today the car gets a thorough rinse, spray wax-as-you-dry, and non-silicone tire dressing. And I have to visit the grocery again.

Someone yesterday commented with a suggestion for a mandatory retirement age for Justices.
If we made it 65, it's interesting to see how the court would have been different.
-- John Roberts would have to retire this year.
-- Clarence Thomas would have had to retire in 2013, during Obama's 2nd term.
-- Stephen Breyer would have had to retire in 2003, during George W. Bush's first term.
-- Samuel Alito would have had to retire in 2015, during Obama's 2nd term.
-- Sonia Sotomayor would have had to retire last year.
So, in retrospect, thank goodness there is no mandatory retirement age of 65 for SCOTUS Justices, otherwise Obama would have been able to replace Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito with 2 radical left-wingers.
Granted, I could go back further and find Souter retired in 2009 at age 70. Had he been forced to retire at 65, that would have been in 2004, during George W. Bush's first term.
Sandra Day O'Connor retired at age 75 in 2005. Had she been forced to retire at 65, that would have given Bill Clinton the chance to nominate her successor in 1995, during his second term.
Antonin Scalia passed away a month before his 80th birthday in 2016. Had he been forced to retire at 65, he would have been replaced in 2001, during George W. Bush's first term.
Of course we then would not have had his great dissent in Lawrence v Texas in 2002.

I have most definitely noticed both of these points. It's not just limited to TV commercials either. I get a lot of catalogs in the mail from a multitude of companies. The ratio of blacks to whites compared to the racial makeup of the country is so off balance that it's ridiculous. I got a catalog last week (Land's End, maybe?) that had nothing but black people until the very end, where I spotted a lone white person modeling something or laying on a comforter for sale. You'd have to be blind to not notice the push for mass over representation, well above the norm. Same with interracial couples and gay couples in advertising. Seems to be everywhere.

everything has become niche. There is little that holds us together these days, and that is unfortunate. Sure politics has ruined it but also it has been a wake up call. Pro sports is a business. People pay money to see people play a sport well. There is really nothing else to it. If people decide to spend their money elsewhere, there will be no pro sports.
The whole thing was based on a community spirit. Once that is lost, it is just a bunch of people running around.

I wore my Blackhawks cap to pick up groceries yesterday at Kroger pick-up. Young man who came out to load them in my Jeep noticed and made a comment on it.
Started up a nice conversation about hockey and the Red Wings and such. He quipped that I'm "that guy" who, in a sea of Red Wings hats and jerseys at the game or a bar, is the with the annoying Blackhawks attire. I said yeah, I'm that guy.
He asked if watched any of the playoffs and I lied and said I watched until the Blackhawks were eliminated. Didn't want to ruin the nice conversation with "nah, I'm boycotting sports this year, because of all the political nonsense". Figured that would end the nice conversation right there.
And it's small stuff like this that I miss. Small bonds made with strangers over talking about our shared enjoyment of sports.

Most mail in ballots are complicated. Require 2 envelopes, sigs, witnesses. Very common in highly Dem precincts to see 1 out of 10 to 1 out of 5 needing to be discarded.
